Green Traveler Bag
By: B. Satyanarayana
This is just to share my experience which happened recently in Brussels (Belgium), and also to
urge everyone to keep faith in GOD. This small story tells you that a true and honest follower
never ends up his/her career/life in troubles. Though some problems come across, but they are
just because of the past sins. So we must be patient enough to receive GOD’s love. HE alone
knows what to give and how to take care of us.
I had arrived in Brussels (along with my wife and little daughter) on 5 January 2010 to continue
my Post-Doctoral research work at the University Libre Bruxelles (ULB) for 3-years (i.e. up to
December 2012). In fact, I have been roaming in different countries (e.g. Sri Lanka, China and
Malaysia) for the last 10 years with my teaching/research oriented jobs, even before and after
completing my Ph.D. at Andhra University (with Marine Biology specialization). Somehow, there
was no opportunity for me to stay and work in India so far, though I attended several interviews
in person as well as via teleconferences. I used to tell my friends and family that I am more SAMARPAN | JULY 2010 | 55 http://forum.spiritualindia.org

confident in getting a job abroad than in India. This is always true in my case. Anyway, I hope
and pray that I get some opportunity in India.
It was winter in Brussels where the temperature was fluctuating between -6 and 20 C. So it was
a very tough life for Asians like me after spending several years in the tropical weather/climate
elsewhere. We were even hesitating to go out, thinking of the cold. Anyway, people who enter
Brussels must report personally to the local immigration authorities within 8-days (at a place
called – Commune Center). So, we three left our house on the day-5 (i.e. on 10 Jan 2010) for the
same and finished successfully by taking 3 modes of transport (bus, metro and tram) to go and
comeback. On our way back, we suddenly realized that we have missed our traveler bag
somewhere. You won’t believe, this bag was our LIFE, containing all our 3 passports, Indian
currency, digital camera and most importantly the educational (originals from 10 to Ph.D.)
certificates.
As soon as we realized this fact, we almost fainted. My wife started crying and stooped down
on the thick layer of ice outside the house. I was also in the same situation, but could not
express my feelings so easily. But my little daughter (1.5 years old) was relatively quiet as if she
knew the fact that nothing worse will happen. Yes, children are none other than the form of
GOD as we believe. Immediately, I called my Professor, but he was busy with student’s
examination. So we were left totally helpless and simply waited for another bus to go to the last
point (i.e. bus stop). We started praying GOD to save our lives. At one stage, I also thought of
ending my life if we would not find our bag. It is not that I am foolish, but the reason is so
simple that there was no job for me in India even after having all my credentials in hand, and in
case I lost them and went back then how miserable my future would be?
At last we reached our last bus stop point nearly after 1 hour. That stop bus stop was a big
junction and always crowded with many students and visitors. As soon as we reached that
place, I ran out of the bus and went to the place where we three had waited for the bus earlier.
It was really a wonder and miracle that our GREEN TRAVELER BAG was just untouched and was
lying at the same place where we left it unknowingly. There was no limit for our tears and
happiness, and we thanked our GOD and elders for their blessings. I am now here in Brussels
and doing fine just because of HIS grace. Possibly, one day I will also achieve my dream of
having my job in India with the grace of his holiness.
