The greatest obstacle on the path of surrender is egoism and ‘mine-ness’ or possessiveness. This is buried in your personality since ages, sending its tentacles deeper and deeper with every succeeding life. It can be removed only by the twin detergents of discrimination and renunciation. Devotion is the water to wash away this age old dirt, and the repetition of God’s name, meditation, and communion (yoga) are the soap that will make the cleansing more effective and quicker. The slow and steady aspirants will surely win this race; walking is the safest method of travel, though it may be condemned as slow! Quicker means of travel guarantees disaster; quicker the means, greater the risk of disaster. You should eat only as much as is needed to satiate your hunger, more will cause disorder. Similarly, proceed step by step in spiritual effort with faith; do not slide back two paces with one pace forward.
