People come from different creeds, nationalities and culture, but all are united in their common allegiance to Bhagawan. By this single feeling of faith in the Divine, unity is achieved. All of you are embodiments of the Divine. You are embodiments of love and peace, of Divinity; develop this strong conviction. With the power of the Divine to nurture you there is nothing you cannot accomplish. Karna and Ravana are examples of powerful men who were destroyed because they did not have the power of the Divine. “What I will be remembered for.. my memory of the last day with the great Kalam sir…
It has been eight hours since we last talked – sleep eludes me and memories keep flushing down, sometimes as tears. Our day, 27th July, began at 12 noon, when we took our seats in the flight to Guhawati. Dr. Kalam was 1A and I was IC. He was wearing a dark colored “Kalam suit”, and I started off complimenting, “Nice color!” Little did I know this was going to be the last color I will see on him.
Long, 2.5 hours of flying in the monsoon weather. I hate turbulence, and he had mastered over them. Whenever he would see me go cold in shaking plane, he would just pull down the window pane and saw, “Now you don’t see any fear!”.
That was followed by another 2.5 hours of car drive to IIM Shillong. For these two legged trip of five hours we talked, discussed and debated. These were amongsthundreds of the long flights and longer drives we have been together over the last six years.
As each of them, this was as special too. Three incidents/discussions in particular will be “lasting memories of our last trip”.
First, Dr. Kalam was absolutely worried about the attacks in Punjab. The loss of innocent lives left him filledwith sorrow. The topic of lecture at IIM Shillong was Creating a Livable Planet Earth. He related the incident to the topic and said, “it seems the man made forces are as big a threat to the livability of earth as pollution”. We discussed on how, if this trend of violence, pollution and reckless human action continues we will forced to leave earth. “Thirty years, at this rate, maybe”, he said. “You guys must do something about it… it is going to be your future world”
Our second discussion was more national. For the past two days, Dr. Kalam was worried that time and again Parliament, the supreme institution of democracy, was dysfunctional. He said, “I have seen two different governments in my tenure. I have seen more after that. This disruption just keeps happening. It is not right. I really need to find out a way to ensure that the parliament works on developmental politics.” He then asked me to prepare a surprise assignment question for the students at IIM Shillong, which he would give them only at the end of the lecture. He wanted to them to suggest three innovative ways to make the Parliament more productive and vibrant. Then, after a while he returned on it. “But how can ask them to give solutions if I don’t have any myself”. For the next one hour, we thwarted options after options, who come up with his recommendation over the issue. We wanted to include this discussion in our upcoming book, Advantage India.
Third, was an experience from the beauty of his humility. We were in a convoy of 6-7 cars. Dr. Kalam and I were in the second car. Ahead us was an open gypsy with three soldiers in it. Two of them were sitting on either side and one lean guy was standing atop, holding his gun. One hour into the road journey, Dr. Kalam said, “Why is he standing? He will get tired. This is like punishment. Can you ask a wireless message to given that he may sit?” I had to convince him, he has been probably instructed to keep standing for better security. He did not relent. We tried radio messaging, that did not work. For the next 1.5 hours of the journey, he reminded me thrice to see if I can hand signal him to sit down. Finally, realizing there is little we can do – he told me, “I want to meet him and thank him”. Later, when we landed in IIM Shillong, I went inquiring through security people and got hold of the standing guy. I took him inside and Dr. Kalam greeted him. He shook his hand, said thank you buddy. “Are you tired?
Would you like something to eat? I am sorry you had to stand so long because of me”. The young lean guard, draped in black cloth, was surprised at the treatment. He lost words, just said, “Sir, aapkeliye to 6 ghantebhikhaderahenge”.
After this, we went to the lecture hall. He did not want to be late for the lecture. “Students should never be made to wait”, he always said. I quickly set up his mike, briefed on final lecture and took position on the computers. As I pinned his mike, he smiled and said, “Funny guy! Are you doing well?” ‘Funny guy’, when said by Kalam could mean a variety of things, depending on the tone and your own assessment. It could mean, you have done well, you have messed up something, you should listen to him or just that you have been plain naïve or he was just being jovial. Over six years I had learnt to interpret Funny Guy like the back of my palm. This time it was the last case.
Funny guy! Are you doing well?” he said. I smiled back, “Yes”. Those were the last words he said. Two minutes into the speech, sitting behind him, I heard a long pause after completing one sentence. I looked at him, he fell down.
We picked him up. As the doctor rushed, we tried whatever we could. I will never forget the look in his three-quarter closed eyes and I held his head with one hand and tried reviving with whatever I could. His hands clenched, curled onto my finger. There was stillness on his face and those wise eyes were motionlessly radiating wisdom. He never said a word. He did not show pain, only purpose was visible.
In five minutes we were in the nearest hospital. In another few minutes the they indicated the missile man had flown away, forever. I touched his feet, one last time. Adieu old friend! Grand mentor! See you in my thoughts and meet in the next birth.
As turned back, a closet of thoughts opened.
Often he would ask me, “You are young, decide what will like to be remembered for?” I kept thinking of new impressive answers, till one day I gave up and resorted to tit-for-tat. I asked him back, “First you tell me, what will you like to be remembered for? President, Scientist, Writer, Missile man, India 2020, Target 3 billion…. What?” I thought I had made the question easier by giving options, but he sprang on me a surprise. “Teacher”, he said.
Then something he said two weeks back when we were discussing about his missile time friends. He said, “Children need to take care of their parents. It is sad that sometimes this is not happening”. He paused and said, “Two things. Elders must also do. Never leave wealth at your deathbed – that leaves a fighting family. Second, one is blessed is one can die working, standing tall without any long drawn ailing. Goodbyes should be short, really short”.
Today, I look back – he took the final journey, teaching, what he always wanted to be remembered doing. And, till his final moment he was standing, working and lecturing. He left us, as a great teacher, standing tall. He leaves the world with nothing accumulated in his account but loads of wishes and love of people. He was a successful, even in his end.
Will miss all the lunches and dinners we had together, will miss all the times you surprised me with your humility and startled me with your curiosity, will miss the lessons of life you taught in action and words, will miss our struggles to race to make into flights, our trips, our long debates. You gave me dreams, you showed me dreams need to be impossible, for anything else is a compromise to my own ability. The man is gone, the mission lives on. Long live Kalam.”

Former President Bharat Ratna Dr APJ Abdul Kalam passed away in Shillong on Monday evening. He was 84. The Missile Man of India, the name by which Kalam was popular, was rushed to Bethany Hospital after he collapsed during a public lecture at IIM Shillong. He was declared dead by the doctors at 7.45 pm. According to reports, Kalam suffered a cardiac arrest during the lecture and was rushed to the hospital where he was put under observation in the ICU. However, he could not be revived, according to reports. Patricia Mukhim, Editor of The Shillong Times on her Facebook post said: “Former President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam collapses during a lecture at IIM Shillong. Reportedly brought dead to Bethany Hospital. Dr Kalam has been a guest faculty at IIM Shillong for the last couple of years! A life well led by example. A great, dedicated teacher until the very end! No salute will be enough for this great son of Mother India. Kalam was born in Rameswarama, Tamil Nadu on 15 October 1931 and served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. Kalam was associated with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for over four decades. He was known for his work on the development of ballistic missiles and launch vehicle technology. He also played a crucial role in India’s Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998.

ஸ்ரீவேங்கடவனின் அருட்கடாட்சத்தை – ஏதேனும் ஒரு சந்தர்ப்பத்திலாவது தெரிந்து கொள்ளாத – புரிந்து கொள்ளாத மெய்யன்பர்கள் அநேகமாக இருக்க முடியாது. தனது இருப்பையும், ஆசியையும் ஏதேனும் ஒரு வகையில் – தேவைப்படும் வேளையில் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட பக்தருக்கு உணர்த்தி விடுவார் வேங்கடாசலபதி. அந்த வகையில் – பிரிட்டிஷாரின் ஆட்சிக் காலத்தில், சென்னை மாகாணத்தில் பல உயர் பதவிகளை வகித்த சர் தாமஸ் மன்றோ என்கிற கிறிஸ்துவரின் அனுபவம், ஓர் ஆச்சர்யம்! தற்போது ஆந்திர மாநிலத்தில், சித்தூர் மாவட்டத்தில்தான் திருமலை திருப்பதி இருக்கிறது. ஆனால், அந்தக் காலத்தில், சென்னை மாகாணத்தைச் சேர்ந்ததாக இருந்தது சித்தூர் மாவட்டம். சம்பவம் நடந்த காலத்தில், இந்த மாவட்டத்துக்கு கலெக்டராக இருந்தார் மன்றோ. வெள்ளையர்கள் ஆட்சிக் காலத்தில் அமைச்சர்கள் எல்லாம் கிடையாது. எல்லாமே கலெக்டர்கள் ராஜ்யம்தான். வெள்ளைக்கார துரைமார்களே, அதிகாரம் மிக்கவர்களாக இருந்தனர். சித்தூர் மாவட்ட கலெக்டர் என்பதால், அலுவல் ரீதியாக திருமலை-திருப்பதிக்கு அடிக்கடி போய் வர நேர்ந்தது மன்றோவுக்கு. அந்த க்ஷேத்திரத்தின் பெருமை பற்றிப் பலரும் சொல்லும் விஷயங்களை இந்தக் காதில் வாங்கி, அந்தக் காதில் விட்டுவிடுவார். அதெல்லாம் அவருக்குத் தேவை இல்லையே! ‘திருப்பதியில் தினம்தோறும் எவ்வளவு வசூல்? வெள்ளையர் அரசாங்கத்துக்கு இங்கிருந்து எவ்வளவு பணம் அனுப்பலாம்?’ என்பது மட்டுமே அவர் இலக்கு. எனவே, திருமலைக்குச் செல்லும் போதெல்லாம், பெருமாள் சன்னிதி பக்கம் எட்டிக்கூடப் பார்க்காமல், உண்டியல் கலெக்ஷனிலும், ஆலய அலுவலகத்தில் வசூலாகி இருக்கும் தொகையிலும் பார்வையைச் செலுத்துவார். ‘கோயில் அதிகாரிகள் இந்தப் பணத்தைச் சுருட்டி விடுகிறார்களோ?’ என்றும் அவருக்கு சந்தேகம் வரும். எனவே, அதுபோன்ற சந்தர்ப்பங்களில் கோயில் பணியாளர்களையும், அர்ச்சகர்களையும் தாறுமாறாகத் திட்டித் தீர்ப்பார். துரையின் பேச்சுக்கு எவர்தான் பதில் சொல்ல முடியும்? வேறு வழி தெரியாமல் தலையைக் குனிந்தவாறு இருப்பார்கள், அதிகாரிகளும் அர்ச்சகர்களும். தங்கள் மனக் குமுறலை அந்தப் பெருமாளிடமே முறையிட்டுக் கண்ணீர் சிந்துவார்கள். ஏழுமலையானுக்குத் தலைமுடி காணிக்கையாகக் கொடுக்க வருகிறவர்களைப் பார்த்து, உள்ளூர்லயே செய்ய வேண்டிய சவரத்தை ஏனயா மலையில் வந்து செய்கிறீர்கள்?” என்று கிண்டல் செய்வார். பெருமாளுக்கு முடி காணிக்கை கொடுத்து விட்டு, மொட்டைத் தலையுடன் செல்லும் இரு நபர்களைப் பிடித்து, ஒருவர் தலையுடன் இன்னொருவரின் தலையை மோத விட்டுப் பார்ப்பார். குரூரமான இந்தச் செயலைக் காண நேரிடும் அர்ச்சகர்களும், கோயில் பணியாளர்களும் ‘அபசாரம்… அபசாரம்’ என்று வாயைப் பொத்திக்கொண்டு நகர்ந்துவிடுவார்கள். அந்த நேரத்தில் யாராவது ஒருவர் இதைத் தட்டிக் கேட்க முற்பட்டால், அவ்வளவுதான்… வெள்ளைக்கார படை வீரர்கள், கேட்டவரைத் துவம்சம் செய்துவிடுவார்கள். எல்லாவற்றையும் பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார் வேங்கடாசலபதி. எதற்கும் ஒரு முடிவு உண்டல்லவா? அதுபோல் மன்றோவின் அட்டகாசங்களுக்கு ஒரு முடிவு கட்டி, அவரை மன்னித்து, தன் பக்தன் ஆக்கிக்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று பெருமாள் தீர்மானித்தார் போலும். இது எப்பேர்ப்பட்ட பாக்கியம்! ஒருநாள் வசூல் விவரங்களைப் பார்வையிட, தம் படையுடன் திருமலைக்கு வந்தார் மன்றோ. உண்டியல் வசூல், வழிபாடுகள் மூலம் சேர்ந்த தொகை, காணிக்கையாக வந்தது, கையிருப்பில் இருக்கும் தொகை அனைத்துக்கும் கணக்கைத் தயாராக வைத்துக்கொண்டு, மன்றோவின் வருகையை எதிர்பார்த்திருந்தனர் அதிகாரிகள். ஆலயத்துக்குள் நுழைந்த மன்றோ, வசூலைப் பார்வையிடுவதற்கு முன்னதாக, ஆலயத்தை மிடுக்குடன் வலம் வந்தார். புனிதம் நிரம்பிய அந்தப் பிராகாரத்தை, அதிகார தொனியில் அவர் பவனி வந்ததைக் கண்ட பலரும் சங்கடத்தில் நெளிந்தனர். அப்படி வரும்போது, ஒரு மூலையில் பக்தர்கள் சிலர் அமர்ந்து பெருமாளின் பிரசாதமான வெண்பொங்கலை, சாப்பிட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தனர். ஒரு இலையில் வைத்துக் கொண்டு, அவர்கள் பிரசாதம் சாப்பிடுவதைப் பார்த்த மன்றோ, முகம் சுளித்தார்; அருவருப்படைந்தார். சாப்பிட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்த பக்தர்களைப் பார்த்து, சே… என்ன உணவு இது… பாக்கவே ஒரு மாதிரியாய் இருக்கே… இதைச் சாப்பிட்டா என்னென்ன வியாதிங்க வருமோ? எல்லாரும் முதல்ல அதைத் துப்பிடுங்க” என்று முகத்தை அஷ்டகோணலாக்கிக் கொண்டு, கண்டிப்பான குரலில் சொன்னார். 
பக்தர்கள் பதறிப் போனார்கள். துரைக்குப் பயந்து துப்பியவர்களும் உண்டு; பெருமாளுக்கு பயந்து விழுங்கியவர்களும் உண்டு. இதைச் சொல்லிவிட்டு, பிராகாரத்தில் ஒரு சில அடிகள் எடுத்து வைத்ததுதான் தெரியும். அடுத்த விநாடி நடந்த சம்பவத்தை, அங்கே எவரும் எதிர்பார்க்கவில்லை – வேங்கடவனைத் தவிர. ஐயோ… வயிறு வலிக்குதே… குத்துதே… என்னன்னு தெரியாம குடையுதே” என்று பெருங்குரல் எடுத்து, அடி வயிற்றைப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு அலற ஆரம்பித்தார் மன்றோ. திடீரென சுருண்டு விழுந்தார். உடன் வந்த அலுவலக அதிகாரிகளும், கோயில் ஊழியர்களும் பதறிப் போனார்கள். நடக்கவே முடியாமல் இருந்தவரை கைத்தாங்கலாகப் பிடித்து, அவரது பங்களாவுக்கு அழைத்துச் சென்றனர். அன்றைய இரவு உணவை முடித்துக் கொண்டு படுத்த மன்றோவுக்கு மீண்டும் வயிற்றில் சுருக்கென்று வலி. ஆங்கிலேய மருத்துவர்கள் வரவழைக்கப்பட்டனர். வைத்தியம் செய்தனர். என்றாலும், வயிற்று வலிக்கான காரணத்தை அவர்களால் கண்டறிய முடியவில்லை. இதன்பின் வந்த மருந்துகள், மாத்திரைகள், உறக்கம் வருவதற்கான ஊசிகள் – எதுவும் நிவாரணம் தரவில்லை. வலியும் குத்தலுமாக நகர்ந்தன நாட்கள். கிழிந்த துணி ஆகிப் போனார் மன்றோ. இதையடுத்து ஒருநாள்… திருப்பதியில் இருந்து, அலுவல் விஷயமாக மன்றோவைச் சந்திக்க வந்தார், ஓர் அர்ச்சகர். தனது நிலை குறித்து அவரிடம் புலம்பித் தீர்த்தார் மன்றோ. துரைமாரே… நான் ஒன்று சொன்னால் கோவிக்கக்கூடாது. சொல்லட்டுமா?” என்று மெள்ள ஆரம்பித்தார் அந்த அர்ச்சகர். சொல்லுங்கள்… எனக்கு வயிற்று வலி தீர வேண்டும். அன்றைக்குக் கோயிலில் தொடங்கிய வலி இன்னமும் நீங்கிய பாடில்லை. ஏதாவது சொல்லுங்கள்” என்று, அவரது முகத்தை ஆர்வத்துடன் ஏறிட்டார் மன்றோ. தன்னுள் தைரியத்தை வரவழைத்துக் கொண்ட அர்ச்சகர், பெருமாளோட பிரசாதத்தை நீங்க மரியாதைக்குறைவாய் பேசினதால தான், ஒங்களுக்கு இப்படி ஒரு நிலைமை உண்டாகி இருக்கும்னு தோண்றது. இதுக்கு ஒரே ஒரு பரிகாரம்தான் இருக்கு” என்று நிறுத்தினார். சொல்லுங்க.. அது என்ன பரிகாரம்? நான் செய்யத் தயாராய் இருக்கேன்” என்று மண்டியிட்டார் துரை. 
பெருமாளோட வெண்பொங்கல் பிரசாதம் கொண்டு வந்திருக்கேன். பெருமாளை மனசுக்குள்ள தியானம் பண்ணிண்டு, இதை சாப்டுங்கோ. வந்த வலி தானா போயிடும்” என்றார். பரிகாரத்தைக் கேட்டதும், மன்றோவின் முகம் பிரகாசமானது. மறுவார்த்தை பேசாமல், மாலவனின் பிரசாதமான வெண்பொங்கலை வாங்கி, கண்களை மூடி பெருமாளை தியானித்து, அதை உண்ணத் தொடங்கினார். தவறை ஒப்புக்கொண்டால், மன்னிப்பதுதானே தெய்வத்தின் குணம்! ஒவ்வொரு கவளமாக வெண் பொங்கலை சாப்பிடச் சாப்பிட… அதுவரை இருந்த வயிற்று வலியும், குத்தல் வலியும் கொஞ்சம் கொஞ்சமாகக் குறைந்தது. பிரசாதம் முழுக்கத் தீர்வதற்கும், வயிற்று வலி முற்றிலுமாகத் தீர்வதற்கும் சரியாக இருந்தது. ஆச்சரியப்பட்டார் மன்றோ. எங்கள் தேசத்து மருத்துவர்கள் எத்தனையோ வைத்தியம் செய்தும் தீராத இந்த வயிற்று வலி, பொங்கல் பிரசாதத்தால் தீர்ந்தது என்றால், அது வேங்கடவனின் அருளாசிதான்” என்று நெகிழ்ந்து போனார். இதோடு நிற்கவில்லை; தன்னைக் குணமாக்கிய இந்த வெண்பொங்கல் பிரசாதம், காலா காலத்துக்கும் பெருமாளுக்கு நடக்க வேண்டும் என்று, வயல்பாடு தாலுகாவில் உள்ள ‘கோடபாயல்’ என்ற கிராமத்தின் வருமானம் முழுவதையும் திருப்பதி பெருமாளுக்கே எழுதி வைத்து உத்தரவு போட்டார். அத்துடன், ஒரு பக்தனாகப் திருப்பதிக்கு போய் பிரம்மோத்ஸவம், சகஸ்ர கலசாபிஷேகம் போன்றவற்றை நடத்தி, பெருமாளை வணங்கிப் பேறு பெற்றார். கோடபாயல் கிராமத்தின் வருவாயில் இருந்து எழுதி வைக்கப்பட்ட அந்த வெண் பொங்கல் பிரசாதம், இன்றைக்கும் திருப்பதி ஆலயத்தில் நண்பகல் வழிபாட்டுக்குப் பிறகு நடந்து வருகிறதாம். அந்தக் கட்டளை ‘மன்றோ பிரபு கங்காளம்’ என்றே அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. 
இவர் மட்டுமல்ல; ஆங்கிலேயர்களில் கர்னல் ஜியோ ஸ்டிராட்டன், லெவெல்லியன் என்ற வீரர் ஆகியோரும் பெருமாளின் பக்தர்களாக இருந்ததோடு, பல நேர்த்திக் கடன்களையும் செலுத்தி உள்ளனர் என்பது கூடுதல் தகவல். தாமஸ் மன்றோ, கி.பி.1761ஆம் ஆண்டு, மே 27ஆம் தேதி ஸ்காட்லாந்தில், உள்ள கிளாஸ்கோ நகரத்தில் பிறந்தவர். படிக்கின்ற காலத்திலேயே மிகவும் சுறுசுறுப்பாகவும் புத்திசாலியாகவும் இருந்த மன்றோ, ஒரு பாக்ஸரும்கூட. ஆங்கிலேயர்களின் போர்ப் படையில் 1779-ல் ஒரு சாதாரண வீரராக சேர்ந்த மன்றோ. பிறகு, கமாண்டர், கலெக்டர் என்று பல பதவிகளை வகித்து, 1820-ல் சென்னை மாகாண ஆளுநரானார். சென்னை – அண்ணா சாலையில், தீவுத் திடல் எதிரே பிரமாண்டமான குதிரை மீது ஒரு வெள்ளைக்காரர் அமர்ந்திருக்கும் சிலையை பலரும் பார்த்திருப்பீர்கள்! அவர்தான், சர் தாமஸ் மன்றோ!

காஞ்சி சங்கரமடத்தில்… மடத்து வாத்தியாராக இருந்து, மகா பெரியவருக்கு உண்டான கைங்கர்யங்களை மிகுந்த சிரத்தையுடன் செய்து வந்தவர் மேச்சேரி பட்டு சாஸ்திரிகள். மெத்தப் படித்தவர்; காஞ்சி மகானை கண் கண்ட தெய்வமாகவே எண்ணி போற்றி வருபவர்!
காஞ்சி மகான் இருந்தபோதே, அவரது ஜன்ம நட்சத்திரமான அனுஷ நாளில், சென்னை மேற்கு மாம்பலத்தில் வேத பாராயணம், பாதுகாபிஷேகம் என்று விமரிசையாகக் கொண்டாடினார் பட்டு சாஸ்திரிகள். இதற்காக தன் பாதுகைகளையும் 32 ரூபாயையும் கொடுத்து, அனுஷத்தைக் கொண்டாடுவதற்கு பட்டு சாஸ்திரிகளுக்கு ஆசிர்வாதம் செய்தார், மகா பெரியவர்!
சாஸ்திரிகளின் இல்லத்தில்… பெரியவாளின் பாதுகைகளைக் கொண்டு, மாதந்தோறும் அனுஷ நட்சத்திர உற்ஸவம் நடைபெறும். மகா அனுஷ நட்சத்திர உற்ஸவம் மேற்கு மாம்பலம்- அயோத்தியா மண்டபத்தில் கொண்டாடப் படும். துவக்கத்தில் சொந்த செலவில், இந்த வைபவத்தை கொண்டாடி வந்தார் சாஸ்திரிகள். பின்னர், காஞ்சி மகானின் அருளுக்குப் பாத்திரமான அன்பர்கள் இவரது சேவைக்கு உதவினர்; உதவியும் வருகின்றனர்.
2001-ஆம் வருட மகா அனுஷ உற்ஸவம், அயோத்தியா மண்டபத்தில் நடைபெற்றது. அப்போது சுவாமிநாதன் (மகானின் பூர்வாஸ்ரமப் பெயர்…சுவாமிநாதன்) என்ற பக்தர், இரண்டு பித்தளை சொம்புகளை பட்டு சாஸ்திரிகளிடம் கொடுத்து, ”மகா ஸ்வாமிகளுக்குப் பஞ்ச லோக விக்கிரகம் வடித்து, உற்ஸவம் நடத்துங்கள்” என்று கூறி விட்டு நகர்ந்தார். இதை மைக்கில் அறிவித்ததுடன், பித்தளை சொம்பு கொடுத்தவரை கௌரவிக்கும் விதமாக, ‘சுவாமிநாதனை மேடைக்கு அழைக்கிறேன்’ என மைக்கில் கூறினார் சாஸ்திரிகள். ஆனால், சுவாமிநாதன் வரவே இல்லை. எனவே, ‘இது ஸ்வாமிகளின் விருப்பம் போலும்’ என தீர்மானித்த அன்பர்கள், அடுத்தடுத்த நாட்களில் ஒவ்வொருவரது வீட்டில் இருந்தும் சொம்பு மற்றும் பழைய பாத்திரங்களை கொண்டு வந்தனர். பஞ்ச லோக விக்கிரகம் வடிப்பதற்குத் தேவையான உலோகங்கள் வந்து சேர்ந்ததும், அவற்றை சுவாமிமலையில் உள்ள ஸ்தபதி ஒருவரிடம் வழங்கி, விக்கிரகம் வடிக்கும் பணியை ஒப்படைத்தார் பட்டு சாஸ்திரிகள்.
இதையடுத்து, பெரியவாளின் மகா ஜயந்தி நாள் நெருங்கும் வேளையில் (வைகாசி மாதம்), தான் வடித்த மகா பெரியவாளின் விக்கிரகத்துடன் பட்டு சாஸ்திரிகளின் இல்லத்துக்கு வந்தார் ஸ்தபதி. சாஸ்திரிகள் சொன்ன கால அவகாசத்துக்கு முன்னரே வேலையை முடித்திருந்தார் ஸ்தபதி. இதுகுறித்து மகிழ்ச்சியடைவதற்கு பதில் கவலைக்குள்ளானார் சாஸ்திரிகள். காரணம்? விக்கிரகம் வடிப்பதற்காக ஸ்தபதிக்கு முன்பணம் கொடுத்திருந்தார் சாஸ்திரிகள். இப்போது மீதத் தொகையான ஆறாயிரம் ரூபாயை ஸ்தபதிக்கு தர வேண்டும். ஆனால், சாஸ்திரிகளிடம் பணம் இல்லை. எனவே தயங்கியபடி, ”இப்ப பணம் இல்லையே…” என்றார். உடனே ஸ்தபதி, ”பரவாயில்லீங்க. பணம் வந்ததும் கொடுங்க!” என்று கூறிச் சென்றார்.
தன் உண்மையான பக்தன் கஷ்டப்படுவதைக் கண்டு காஞ்சி மகானுக்கு பொறுக்கவில்லை போலும்!
கணேஷ்குமார் (கடம் விநாயக்ராமின் சகோதரரின் மாப்பிள்ளை) என்பவர், மகா பெரியவாளின் தீவிர பக்தர்; அப்போது அமெரிக்காவில் இருந்தார். ஒருநாள் இரவில்… இவரின் கனவில் தோன்றிய பெரியவாள், ‘மேச்சேரி பட்டு சாஸ்திரிகள்கிட்ட ஆறாயிரம் ரூபாயை உடனே கொடுத்துடு’ என்று கூறி மறைந்தார். சட்டென்று விழித்த கணேஷ்குமார், இதை பெரிதாக எடுத்துக் கொள்ளாமல், அசதியில் அப்படியே தூங்கிப் போனார். அப்போது எவரோ வந்து தன்னை தட்டி எழுப்புவது போல் உணர்ந்தார் கணேஷ் குமார். இதன் பிறகு, கனவு குறித்து யோசித்தவர், சென்னையில் உள்ள உறவினர் மூலம் பட்டு சாஸ்திரிகளிடம் ஆறாயிரம் ரூபாயை கொடுக்கும்படி தெரிவித்தார். மறுநாள்! பட்டு சாஸ்திரிகளிடம் ஆறாயிரம் ரூபாய் வழங்கப்பட்டது. கண்ணில் நீர் மல்க வாங்கிய சாஸ்திரிகள், உடனே பூஜை அறைக்கு ஓடிச் சென்று, மகா பெரியவாளின் திருவுருவப்படத்துக்கு முன் விழுந்து நமஸ்கரித்தார். ஸ்தபதிக்கு பணத்தை பட்டுவாடா செய்தார்; பஞ்ச லோக விக்கிரகத்தை பூஜிக்கலானார்!
இந்த விக்கிரகத்தைக் கொண்டு, மாதந் தோறும் சாஸ்திரிகளின் இல்லத்திலும் மகா அனுஷ நாளில் அயோத்தியா மண்டபத்திலும் உற்ஸவ வழிபாடுகள் நடந்தேறும். கொடியேற்றத்துடன் துவங்கி, ஹோமங்கள், வேத பாராயணம், கச்சேரிகள், விக்கிரக ஊர்வலம் என்று அமர்க்களப்படும் விழாவில்… தினமும் 108 குடங்களில் திரவியங்கள் மற்றும் மலர்கள், விபூதி ஆகியவை சேகரித்து அபிஷேகம் செய்யப்படும். தவிர 1008 சங்காபிஷேகம், 1008 இளநீர் அபிஷேகம், பாதுகைக்கு 1008 வடைமாலை மற்றும் 1008 ஜாங்கிரி மாலை ஆகியவையும் சார்த்தப்படுகிறது.
”என் காலத்துக்குள்ளேயே மகா பெரியவாளுக்கு ஒரு கோயில் கட்டணும்னு ஆசை” என்கிற பட்டு சாஸ்திரிகளுக்கு வயது 91. இவர் மகன் சந்திரமௌலியும் இந்தப் பணியில் தன்னை ஈடுபடுத்திக் கொண்டுள்ளார்.
