Message for the Day….” Do not fall in love with the world so much that your false attachment brings you back into this delusive amalgam of joy and grief.”

You can sail safe on the sea of worldly life (Samsara) if there are no leaks in the boat; but through the leaks of lust, anger, greed, delusion, pride and envy (kama, krodha, lobha, moha, mada, matsarya), the waters of worldliness will enter your boat and sink it, drowning you beyond redemption. To not allow water into the boat, fix all leaks. Then, you need not fear! You can benefit from all the chances Samsara gives to train the senses, widen your affection, deepen your experiences, and strengthen detachment. Do not fall in love with the world so much that your false attachment brings you back into this delusive amalgam of joy and grief. Unless you stand back a little, away from entanglement with the world, knowing that it is all a play whose director is God, you are in danger of being too closely involved. Use the world as a training ground for sacrifice, service, expansion of heart, and cleansing of emotions.

Message for the Day…. ” The Lord does not insist on all following one path and accepting one discipline. There are many doors to His mansion. The main entrance is, however, moha-kshaya (overcoming attachment). This is what Krishna exhorted Arjuna to achieve.”

The Lord does not insist on all following one path and accepting one discipline. There are many doors to His mansion. The main entrance is, however, moha-kshaya (overcoming attachment). This is what Krishna exhorted Arjuna to achieve. Arjuna lost heart and allowed the bow to slip from his hand, because he was overwhelmed by delusion. Krishna demonstrated to him that the kinsmen whom he dreaded to kill, his teachers and all those whom he loved and hated, were all instruments of His will, puppets pulled by His Hand. This destroyed his attachment and he resumed his task, without any attachment to the consequences. That made Arjuna the recipient of the greatest lesson in history. This lesson is valuable for the theist as well as the atheist, for both have attachment to the consequences of their tasks, an attachment which will colour their eagerness and double the distress when disappointed.

Message for the Day…. ” However learned you may be, whatever position you may occupy, or whatever greatness you may possess, if you lack human values, you are no human being at all.”

Today cynicism and apathy are rampant. Most of you are caught up in meaningless worries, endless desires and unattainable ambitions and have no peace of mind. To everyone groping in the darkness of ignorance, spiritual illumination alone reveals the right path. However learned you may be, whatever position you may occupy, or whatever greatness you may possess, if you lack human values, you are no human being at all. What is humanness? Essentially it means unity in thought, word and deed. Remember, when what you think differs from what you say and do, you cease to be human; you are then becoming a demon. Hence what everyone must first do is to cultivate unity and purity in thought, word and deed. True human qualities can grow only in a heart filled with spiritual aspirations like a seed sown in a fertile soil and not on a piece of rock. To develop these qualities, you must develop compassion and equanimity amidst the vicissitudes of life.

This Pocket Watch Rescued From A Titanic Victim Has A Backstory Worthy Of Jack And Rose…

This tragic timepiece recovered from a victim’s body just fetched an enormous price at auction.                                                    Left: Heritage Auctions, Right: Wikimedia CommonsLeft: Front of Sinai Kantor’s watch, Right: The R.M.S. Titanic.

An antique, rusty pocket watch recovered from a passenger who died on the Titanic just sold for a pretty penny at auction.

The watch — which belonged to Sinai Kantor, a Jewish Russian immigrant aboard the Titanic on that fateful day — sold on Aug. 25 for $57,500, according to the Associated Press. The artifact was originally recovered from Sinai’s body after it was pulled from the icy waters by a recovery operation following the ship’s fateful sinking on April 15, 1912.

The winning bid on the pocket watch was placed by John Miottel, a collector of timepieces related to the Titanic disaster. According to Heritage Auctions, he runs the Miottel Museum in San Francisco, Calif., which already features timepieces from other notable Titanic passengers like Col. John Jacob Astor, the ship’s richest passenger, and a watch previously owned by the ship’s postal clerk, Oscar Woody.

“It will take one of the primary spots in our collection,” Miottel said regarding Sinai’s watch.

Sinai Kantor, then 34, traveled on the Titanic with his wife Miriam. The pair were both from Vitebsk, Russia and boarded the ship with second-class passenger tickets, which cost them £26 in 1912 (about $3,666 today).

The college-educated pair hoped to start a new life together in America. Sinai and Miriam aimed to study medicine and dentistry once they settled in New York City. Sinai was a furrier and he intended to sell trunks of furs to help fund their dreams, according to Heritage Auctions.

Unfortunately, the couple would never get a chance to start their new life together. As a part of the “women and children first” protocol, Miriam made it safely onto a lifeboat. But there was no room for Sinai, who, along with thousands of others, was forced into the frigid waters once the ship sank.

A few days later, Sinai’s body was recovered along with many belongings, including the pocket watch recently sold at auction. It was not easy for Miriam to receive her husband’s belongings once his body was located. Only after an extensive legal battle that lasted for five weeks after her husband’s death was the widow given the rest of his items.

The pocket watch was sold by a “direct descendant of Miriam and Sinai Kantor” according to Heritage Auctions. The front of the watch has numerals written in Hebrew and the back case features an embossed design that depicts Moses holding the Ten Commandments.

After several days in the cold seawater and more than a century of age, the Swiss-made watch is not in very good shape. According to Smithsonian, the hands have almost completely worn away, the dial is stained, the movement is rusted, and the silver that once covered the watch’s case has eroded away leaving just the brass below.

Despite its decay, artifacts like Sinai Kantor’s pocket watch have helped keep the story of the Titanic captivating for more than a century.

Message for the Day…” It is only when the teachers themselves are wedded to discipline and observe good habits that their pupils will be able to shape themselves into ideal individuals and citizens. “

The profession of a teacher is the noblest and the most responsible one in every country. If the teacher strays from the path of truth, the entire society will suffer. Hence teachers must make every effort to live their life uprightly. You have in your charge, looking up to you for guidance, innocent children who have no knowledge yet of the world and its ways. It is only when the teachers themselves are wedded to discipline and observe good habits that their pupils will be able to shape themselves into ideal individuals and citizens. Cultivate in your own heart the spirit of sacrifice, the virtues of charity and the awareness of Divinity. Then you will easily cultivate these in the hearts of the children. Try your best to reshape the present educational system. In the initial stages you will find this task very difficult and exhausting, but be assured, in time, you will find your task more easy.

Message for the Day…. ” The Lord is closest to you, He is the mother, father, teacher, friend, guide and guardian. Call on Him, and He responds immediately. From dawn to dusk, spend every minute in His company. The Flute is His favourite. So become a flute, hollow (devoid of desires), straight (with no crookedness), and He will redeem you!”

To save humanity, the Lord appeared in a most charming form so that He could draw everyone’s heart in love. So Lord Krishna easily steals into the hearts of even the most hard-hearted individuals. He is the ‘bada chitta chor’ (the greatest Thief of hearts). Pure hearts yearn for His voice, His Form, His flute, His smile, His sport and His pranks. That is the penance (tapas) which is rewarded by His grace. Krishna incarnated to establish Dharma (righteousness). So what he likes the most is Dharma. Walk in the path of Dharma; that is the offering He will gladly accept. The Lord is closest to you, He is the mother, father, teacher, friend, guide and guardian. Call on Him, and He responds immediately. From dawn to dusk, spend every minute in His company. The Flute is His favourite. So become a flute, hollow (devoid of desires), straight (with no crookedness), and He will redeem you!
