Stowaway Pet Cat Survives 10 hour Flight !!!!!!!

A U.S. woman says the pet cat that sneaked into her luggage for a flight to Florida has returned home safely and seems unaffected by his surprise vacation.

Ethel Maze tells The Circleville Herald newspaper that Bob-Bob the cat spent 10 hours in a suitcase before she opened it last week. She says the cat was lethargic and wet from perspiration, and at first she thought he’d died.

Eventually the cat perked up, and he spent the week in a crate at Maze’s hotel. He rode in a carrier near Maze’s seat for the return flight.

The man who handled the bags for Maze’s group at Port Columbus International Airport in Ohio told reporters he thought he saw the bag move but loaded it anyway.

Lost in Aircrash… Found after 46 Years!!!!!

Copies of The Hindu found in diplomatic bag that went down with AI aircraft 46 years ago

A bag of Indian diplomatic mail, which went down with an Air India (AI) aircraft 46 years ago in the French Alps, was on Tuesday put on display in the Ministry of External Affairs.

A tough khaki sack with Ministry of External Affairs stencilled in fading black, it yielded not diplomatic papers but Air India calendars and newspapers, including copies of The Hindu, then priced at just 13 paise. Dated January 21, 1966, The Hindu’s slightly shrivelled front page indicated that the previous day had been newsy — Indira Gandhi, the Prime Minister designate, had said a new Cabinet would be sworn in on January 25 but declined to answer questions on the probable candidates.

The bag was in the cargo hold of an Air India flight, named Kanchenjunga, which crashed on Mont Blanc in the Swiss Alps while descending for a stopover at Geneva killing all the 117 aboard, including noted nuclear physicist and father of the Indian nuclear programme Homi Jahangir Bhabha and upcoming trade union leader Satish Loomba. Eerily another Air India plane, the Malabar Princess, had crashed on the same south-west face of Mont Blanc in 1950.

There has been virtually no trace of the Malabar Princess. But in the case of Kanchenjunga, there was a shoe, cables and a jute bag stamped ‘Diplomatic Mail’ and ‘Ministry of External Affairs’ “sitting as if someone had just placed it there,’’ said mountain rescue worker Arnaud Christmann and his neighbour Jules Berger who chanced upon the debris on August 21.

Glaciers and mountain faces pose forbidding challenges for human beings seeking to explore them. Nature in the form of snow drifts tends to cover the tracks only too well. If this bag took 46 years to recover, closer home it took 35 years before a salvage team reached the remains of sepoy Bali Ram who, along with his comrades at Garhwal Rifles, died when a Leh-bound Indian Air Force troop lifter crashed on the South Dhaka Glacier near Manali, Himachal Pradesh in 1968.

Vedic Wisdom Behind Eating With Your Hands….

source::::unknown… input recd. from one of my friends….. an interesting read ….

Natarajan

Eating food with the hands in today’s Western society can sometimes be perceived as being unhygienic, bad mannered and primitive. However within Indian culture there is an old saying that,
” Eating food with your hands feeds not only the body but also the mind and the spirit”.

In the Big Brother series some years back, an English participant complained about an Indian participants use of her hands during food preparations and her eating habits, “They eat with their hands in India, don’t they? Or is that China? You don’t know where those hands have been.” Within many Indian households nowadays, the practice of eating food with the hands has been replaced with the use of cutlery.

Have you ever thought of why previous generations in India ate with the hands? There is a reason for their this. The practice of eating with the hands originated within Ayurvedic teachings. The Vedic people knew the power held in the hand.

The ancient native tradition of eating food with the hands is derived from the mudra practice, which is prevalent in many aspects within Hinduism. Mudras are used during mediation and are very prominent within the many classical forms of dance, such as Bharatnatyam

The hands are considered the most precious organ of action. This is linked to the Vedic prayer of
“Karagre vasate Laksmih karamule Sarasvati Karamadhye tu Govindah prabhate karadarsanam”

(On the tip of your fingers is Goddess Lakshmi, on the base of your fingers is Goddess Saraswati; in the middle of your fingers is Lord Govinda), which we recite whilst looking at our palms. Thus, this shloka suggests that all the divinity lies in human effort.

Our hands and feet are said to be the conduits of the five elements. The Ayurvedic texts teach that each finger is an extension of one of the five elements. The thumb is agni (fire) (you might have seen children sucking their thumb, this is nature’s way of aiding the digestion in children at an age when they are unable to do an physical activity to aid the digestion), the forefinger is vayu (air), the middle finger is akash (ether – the tiny intercellular spaces in the human body), the ring finger is prithvi (earth) and the little finger is jal (water).

Each finger aids in the transformation of food, before it passes on to internal digestion. Gathering the fingertips as they touch the food stimulates the five elements and invites Agni to bring forth the digestive juices. As well as improving digestion the person becomes more conscious of the tastes, textures and smells of the foods they are eating, which all adds to the pleasure of eating.

You may have noticed that elders in the family hardly ever use utensils to measure all the different type of masala, and would instead prefer to use their hands to measure the quantity instead. As each handful is tailored to provide a suitable amount for the own body. Overall there are 6 main documented forms that the hands take when obtaining a measurement a certain type of food ranging from solid food to seeds, and flour.

This is one of the examples of how many things within our Hindu culture may seem weird and unusual at first glance, but once a closer look is taken it is surprising, but a vast amount of knowledge is revealed.

Refrigerator sans Electricity!!!!!…..Mitticool….

Source::::: ‘The Hindu’…..
Natarajan

Besides Mitticool, Gujarat villager Mansukhbhai has developed a range of products in terracotta — such as pressure cooker (with a whistle), non-stick pans, a 0.9-micron water filter etc

The Mitticool achieves something that no modern, high-tech and supposedly energy-efficient refrigerator does — it works without electricity! And this rustic wizardry is just one of the many exciting innovations of Mansukhbhai Prajapati.

A traditional potter from the small village of Wankaner in Gujarat, this unassuming innovator was in the city to receive the 2011 Villgro Grassroots Innovator Award at IIT-Madras. For someone who failed in his Class X examination, Mansukhbhai now holds a patent for Mitticool, besides several national awards. While the Forbes magazine listed him the ‘Most Powerful Rural Entrepreneur’ in 2010, the likes of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and techno-giants such as Bosch and Siemens Hausgeräte have shown interest in Mitticool, and he has received orders for his products from 41 countries around the world, so far.

Not just the Mitticool, Mansukhbhai has developed a range of products in terracotta — such as pressure cooker (with a whistle), non-stick pans that can be used over a normal LPG flame, a 0.9-micron water filter, etc. It took many years of experimentation and labour to arrive at each of his extraordinary products.

It all began when Mansukhbhai decided to make a non-stick pan for his wife, as he couldn’t afford the ones in the market. “After a while, I quit my job as a terracotta tile-maker, took a loan of Rs. 30,000 and set up a small factory to shape terracotta gadgets. “At one point, it looked as if we would have to sell our house to keep the factory going,” Mansukhbhai shares. That was when IIM-Ahmedabad professor and vice-chairman of National Innovation Foundation, Anil K. Gupta stepped in with monetary help. Mansukhbai repaid the loan with interest eventually, and now is working to develop the ‘Mitticool House’ — a house that would keep itself cool without consuming energy!

All from the earth

The Mitticool keeps things cool because of the nature of the mitti (clay) it is made with. The structure is double layered, and water poured into the chamber just beneath the top of the Mitticool trickles down between its double layered walls, taking heat from the inside and evaporates, leaving the storage chambers cool. Cool water can be drawn out through a tap provided near the top, and used as drinking water, if drinking water is poured.

“I wouldn’t advise people to store milk in it, considering our city’s climate, but it can keep vegetables and fruits fresh for up to a week,” says Nadeera Harris, who stocks Mitticool refrigerators at her outlet Desi Basics.

Mitticool’s chief charm remains its electricity independence. Well, looks like terracotta technology is an idea whose time has come. Again!

Once upon a time in a village, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for Rs10 .

The villagers seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them .

The man bought thousands at Rs10 and as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort .

He further announced that he would now buy at Rs20 .

This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again .

Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms .

The offer rate increased to Rs25 and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it!

The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at Rs50!

However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of him .

In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers .

Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected .

I will sell them to you at Rs35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell it to him for Rs50 . ‘

The villagers squeezed up with all their savings and bought all the monkeys .

Then they never saw the man nor his assistant, only monkeys everywhere!! !

How Cool India is …….Few Tips for NRIs ……

SOURCE:::::AN ARTICLE BY Divakar in silicon india net….makes an interesting read and a good tip for Indians working abroad…

Cool things about living in India (for Desis)

Logically thinking, western world has so much more to offer than India. Living in India is simply painful. Or is it? Is there anything cool about living in India? I just wanted to compile a few cool things of living in India. I am very well aware of down side of things. But for these who never lived overseas, for those who returned already and for those who will return soon, here are a few points.

1. Freedom:

You are no longer restricted by H1s, i94s and Green Card restrictions etc. When you are living in own country you have a great sense of freedom to do what you always wanted to do.

2. For-ever Vacation

Best thing I liked living in India is like it’s a continuous vacation. No need to save all leaves, pack your bags and travel 36hours for a vacation. It’s like a permanent vacation. Every week-end is a vacation.

3. Driving is optional

With easy availability of drivers, auto-walas, cabs, trains, buses etc., when you don’t feel like driving there are other options available.

4. Your spouse is no longer dependent on you

He/She can have their own life and not depending on you. If your spouse is home maker, she can have her own friend circle and go out on her own and have a life for herself.

5. Help from Parents and in-laws

When kids are sick, when you have too much work or travel, when you are not in great shape to take care of kids, you have the luxury to call-in help from parents or in-laws.

6. Raising kids

You can raise kids the way you want them to raise. In general you have more control on their activities when you are in India.

7. Festivals

This is cool. Do you miss Diwali, Krishnastami, Holi, Ganesh Chaturthi? Well you don’t if you live in India.

8. Medical help

Developed countries have great medical facilities and advanced technologies but for all small ailments, I felt India has availability of doctors better. Easy to get appointments, easy to get medicines, you get treatment customized to Indian kind of bodies. J

Another great help is easy availability of homeopathy and ayurvedic doctors/medicines.

9. Domestic help

Good or bad, but when you need, there is better availability of domestic help like maids, general labor etc., Very useful during parties, functions/events and house renovations etc.

10. Food

I felt the variety of food availability is great in India. Vegetarian restaurants, South Indian restaurants, north-Indian restaurants, along with all major international food chains. You don’t miss international style food and you don’t miss Indian style either.

I miss good Mexican and Thai food in India though.

11. Weather

This one is my favorite. Do you like going out with jacket on, gloves, covering your ears and face and wearing inners? Or just wear light clothing and dash out? Warm throughout the year is one big asset India can offer.

12. Friend circle for kids

Indian Kids in general have more fun in India than elsewhere. Many kids to play with, they freely play outside and parents need not be too much worries about who they are playing with etc. No question of Kids getting discriminated against.

13. Career

In general, (in a broad sense), not many opportunities to move to senior management in US while being an Indian programmer. In India you can choose a clear career path and not stuck up in technical coding roles for ever.

14. Stability in Marriage

Several of my friends and I felt more stability in marriage and more completeness in family life while living in India.

15. Spiritual help

With access to unlimited Indian TV and media, there is lot of spiritual guidance you can obtain (for Hindu culture) easily. You have access to vedic pundits, vedic literature, pooja help and wide wide variety of temples to visit while you live in India.

16. Friends Circle and Social Life

In western world most of the friend circle is about other desis at work. If you grew up in India, when you live here, you are in touch with school friends, you have neighbors, friends from your home town, in addition to work friends. So the “friends and acquaintance” part of life is more fulfilling.

17. Involvement Political system

Getting involved in local issues, voting, taking a stand in building the home country are some gifts that you miss when you live overseas. Living overseas has an effect in life that you live a detached life from social-political issues, which is okay, but for those desis who like getting involved, nothing like living in India and be active in political and social causes.

18. Living in minority vs living in majority

In India you are part of majority. There is a bit of insecurity when you live in minority. Your color is odd, your religion is strange and in general you don’t fit-in.

19. Don’t need to act (like fake)

Living natural is so much stress free. I observed may desis trying to force fit themselves into a different environment. Faking accent, faking newly learnt styles, generally struggling to fit-in.

20. Work related stress

Work related stress is so much easy to handle when you have an entire support system behind you and work is not only thing in your life that’s going-on. Stress gets spread out and its affects are minimized when you live in home country.

21. Career switching

I have seen several IT people coming back and getting into entertainment industry, start their businesses, take over their family businesses etc. I guess, for IT guys career switching is easier here in India into completely new fields only when you live here and pursue your dream.

22. Helping others and contributing to society

Are you the kind of guy who takes pleasure helping others? There is immense pleasure in helping the fellow county-men come up the curve than donating money to some charity in US/Europe. If you grew up in India, its more fulfilling to help your villagers, old friends etc. It’s not always about money, it’s about time you spend with them and help.

Well, that said, if you are happy where you are, whatever part of world, Don’t change.

SAN FRANCISCO: Apple Inc’s new iPhone goes on sale on Friday with a bigger screen and 4G wireless technology, as the company seeks to maintain its edge over rivals such as Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and Google Inc.Full coverage on Apple’s new iPhone

The iPhone 5 met the expectations laid out by gadget geeks and tech analysts ahead of the unveiling on Wednesday, but offered few surprises to give Apple shares, already trading near record highs, another major kick.

“There is not a wow factor because everything you saw today is evolutionary. I do think they did enough to satisfy,” said Michael Yoshikami, chief executive of the wealth management company Destination Wealth Management.

Other industry analysts turned quickly to speculating about what else was in Apple’s product pipeline ahead of the crucial end-year holiday season, especially as the company stayed mum about an oft-rumored TV device or a smaller iPad.

Analysts have forecast sales of 10 million to 12 million of the new iPhones in this month alone.

CEDING A LEAD

Apple has sold more than 243 million iPhones since 2007, and the device ushered in the current applications ecosystem. But Samsung now leads the smartphone market with a 32.6 percent share followed by Apple with 17 percent, according to market research firm IDC. Both saw shipments rise compared to a year ago, with Samsung riding its flagship Galaxy S III phone.
“We would really like to see the iPad Mini in the product offering for the all important holiday quarter. They still have time,” said Channing Smith, co-manager of the Capital Advisors Growth Fund. “As soon as we see that, we will have more conviction about the stock heading into the final quarter.”

Shares in Apple ended the day up 1.4 percent at $669.79. The latest iPhone comes as Apple faces new competition from Microsoft Corp, which is pushing its Windows Phone 8 operating system as a third alternative to Apple and Google’s Android, the most-used mobile operating system in the world.

Take off of iphone 5 from APPLE….

SAN FRANCISCO: Not ready for a new iPhone? Don’t worry. Many software features are coming to older iPhones as well.

Apple has said that its iOS 6 software will have more than 200 new features, though some won’t be available on all devices. The new features include an updated mapping service and better integration with Facebook.

On Wednesday, Apple showed off the virtual assistantSiri giving driving directions. Siri will also let you post Facebook status updates you speak out to her.

There’s also an enhancement to email, so you can deem certain people “VIPs” and locate emails from them more easily.

As announced in June, iOS 6 will be a free upgrade for iPhones released since 2009 the 3GS, 4 and 4S models. It will also be available on last year’s and this year’s iPad models and newer iPod Touch devices. The update for older devices will be available starting next Wednesday.

The software will ship with the iPhone 5 out on September 21 in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and UK. Advance orders will begin this Friday. It will be available in 22 more countries on September 28.
