A Cup of Coffee on The Wall !!!

what a strange way to express one’s concern about the needy one !! True one & worth knowing.

Cup of Coffee on the Wall

I sat with my friend in a well-known coffee shop in a neighboring town of Venice, the city of lights and water. As we enjoyed our coffee, a man entered and sat on an empty table beside us. He called the waiter and placed his order saying, ‘Two cups of coffee, one of them there on the wall.’

We heard this order with rather interest and observed that he was served with one cup of coffee but he paid for two. As soon as he left, the waiter pasted a piece of paper on the wall saying ‘A Cup of Coffee’.

While we were still there, two other men entered and ordered three cups of coffee, two on the table and one on the wall. They had two cups of coffee but paid for three and left. This time also, the waiter did the same; he pasted a piece of paper on the wall saying, ‘A Cup of Coffee’.

It seemed that this gesture was a norm at this place. However, it was something unique and perplexing for us. Since we had nothing to do with the matter, we finished our coffee, paid the bill and left.

After a few days, we again had a chance to go to this coffee shop. While we were enjoying our coffee, a man entered. The way this man was dressed did not match the standard nor the atmosphere of this coffee shop. Poverty was evident from the looks on his face. As he seated himself, he looked at the wall and said, one cup of coffee from the wall. The waiter served coffee to this man with the customary respect and dignity. The man had his coffee and left without paying.

We were amazed to watch all this when the waiter took off a piece of paper from the wall and threw it in the dust bin. Now it was no surprise for us – the matter was very clear.
The great respect for the needy shown by the inhabitants of this town welled up our eyes with tears.

Coffee is not a need of our society neither a necessity of life for us. The point to note is that when we take pleasure in any blessing, maybe we also need to think about those people who appreciate that specific blessing as much as we do but they cannot afford to have it.

Note the character of this waiter, who is playing a consistent and generous role to get the communication going between the affording and the needy with a smile on his face.

Ponder upon this man in need….he enters the coffee shop without having to lower his self-esteem…he has no need to ask for a free cup of coffee…without asking or knowing about the one who is giving this cup of coffee to him…he only looked at the wall, placed an order for himself, enjoyed his coffee and left.

When we analyze this story, along with the other characters,we need to remember the role played by the wall that reflects the generosity and care of the dwellers of this town.

No One Can Hurt Us Without Our Consent…

On his First Day in office as President Abraham Lincoln entered to give His Inaugural Address, One Man stood up, he was a Rich Aristocrat.

He Said,

“Mr Lincoln, You Should Not Forget That Your Father Used to make Shoes for My Family.”
And the Whole Senate Laughed, They thought they had Made a Fool of Lincoln.
But Certain People Are Made Of A Totally Different Mettle.

Lincoln Looked At The Man Directly In the Eyes And Said,
“Sir, I Know That My father Used To Make Shoes For Your Family, And There Will Be Many Others Here,
Because He made Shoes The Way Nobody Else Can.
He Was A Creator. His Shoes Were Not Just Shoes
He Poured His Whole Soul Into Them.
I Want To Ask You,
Have You Any Complaint??
Because I Know How To Make Shoes Myself.
If You Have Any Complaint I Can Make You Another Pair Of Shoes.
But As Far As I Know, Nobody Has Ever Complained About My Father’s Shoes. He Was A Genius,
A Great Creator
And
I am Proud Of My Father.
The Whole Senate Was Struck Dumb.
They Could Not Understand What Kind Of Man Abraham Lincoln Was.
He Was Proud Because His Father Did His Job So Well That Not Even A Single Complaint Had Ever Been Heard.

Remember……
No One Can Hurt Us Without Our Consent.

It is Not What Happens to us That Hurts Us.
It Is Our Response That Hurts Us.

Right Man For the Right Job!!!!!

History ….A Quick Look …..an inspirational story …

Sunday, December 7th, 1941–Admiral Chester Nimitz was attending a
concert in Washington, D.C. He was paged and told there was a phone
call for him. When he answered the phone, it was President Franklin
Delano Roosevelt on the phone. He told Admiral Nimitz that he (Nimitz)
would now be the Commander of the Pacific Fleet.

Admiral Nimitz flew to Hawaii to assume command of the Pacific Fleet.
He landed at Pearl Harbor on Christmas Eve, 1941. There was such a
spirit of despair, dejection and defeat–you would have thought the
Japanese had already won the war. On Christmas Day, 1941, Adm. Nimitz
was given a boat tour of the destruction wrought on Pearl Harbor by
the Japanese. Big sunken battleships and navy vessels cluttered the
waters everywhere you looked.

As the tour boat returned to dock, the young helmsman of the boat
asked, “Well Admiral, what do you think after seeing all this
destruction?” Admiral Nimitz’s reply shocked everyone within the sound
of his voice.

Admiral Nimitz said, “The Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes
an attack force could ever make or God was taking care of America.
Which do you think it was?”

Shocked and surprised, the young helmsman asked, “What do mean by
saying the Japanese made the three biggest mistakes an attack force
ever made?” Nimitz explained:

Mistake number one: The Japanese attacked on Sunday morning. Nine out
of every ten crewmen of those ships were ashore on leave. If those
same ships had been lured to sea and been sunk–we would have lost
38,000 men instead of 3,800.

Mistake number two: When the Japanese saw all those battleships lined
in a row, they got so carried away sinking those battleships, they
never once bombed our dry docks opposite those ships. If they had
destroyed our dry docks, we would have had to tow every one of those
ships to America to be repaired. As it is now, the ships are in
shallow water and can be raised. One tug can pull them over to the dry
docks, and we can have them repaired and at sea by the time we could
have towed them to America . And I already have crews ashore anxious
to man those ships.

Mistake number three: Every drop of fuel in the Pacific theater of war
is in top of the ground storage tanks five miles away over that hill.
One attack plane could have strafed those tanks and destroyed our fuel
supply. That’s why I say the Japanese made three of the biggest
mistakes an attack force could make or God was taking care of America
.
Admiral Nimitz was able to see a silver lining in that situation and circumstance
where everyone else saw only despair and defeat.

President Roosevelt had chosen the right man for the right job.

Message For The Day….Practice the Good Things Learnt …

One may know the 700 verses of the Bhagavad Gita by heart, but trust Me, the time that was spent in learning by rote and reciting it, is all a waste, if one does not resolutely act upon even a single verse. It is not the resolution that matters; it is resoluteness. Resolution is just a string of words. In fact, that learning might even be a handicap as that skill can affect the head and make one swell with pride. The price of sugarcane is fixed according to the sugar content in it. You evaluate oranges in proportion to the juice they contain, is it not? So too, one is worthy of honour in proportion to the knowledge of the Self acquired. This knowledge alone can confer steadiness, strength and real happiness.

Food For Thought………..

While everybody struggles with something, for this young boy life’s struggles started early…

Lost childhood: Living life the hard way. Photo: Ashoke Chakrabarty
Lost childhood: Living life the hard way.

When I got a call, I went to the balcony to continue the call. At that moment, I noticed a little boy who was hiding behind my house owner’s car parked nearby. I thought he was playing the “hide and seek” game. Even after my call that lasted for about ten minutes, the boy was still in the same place and that made me take a closer look at him. He was wearing a dirty top and shorts which was unusual for kids in our area to be wearing something like that. That’s when I had a lot of questions running on my mind.

Who is this kid? Why is he hiding here? Is he waiting to steal something from the car? I decided to wait and watch him.

He was constantly looking at the backdoor of my neighbour’s house. After a few minutes, an old lady came out from that door carrying food on a banana leaf. She placed it over the compound wall and shouted “ka..ka..ka” (to invite the crows to eat the food) and returned home.

It took the boy only a few seconds to run towards the wall and grab the food. When he was enjoying the food, that old lady suddenly came back with another banana leaf. The little boy was shocked looking at her. When the old lady screamed at him, he disappeared in seconds.

The very next day, I ran to the balcony when I heard that old woman calling out to the crows but this time the clever woman was standing in the terrace.

I looked for that kid to give him some money so that he could buy something to eat but I never saw him after that incident.

P. SUBRAMANIAN, Engineering graduate in THE HINDU….

After reading this story in The HINDU, I have a question … when we are prepared to feed the crows why not we feed the poor kids too who look for food alongwith crows ?….

Message For The Day….Mantra For Meditation…

Install a radio receiver, select the wavelength of the station you propose to listen to, and tune it correctly to that wavelength. You will then hear the radio program loud and clear, is it not? Your ear will tell you the accuracy with which you have tuned. Akin to this, you must enter into a course of spiritual discipline. Choose any mantra or incantation of the Lord that pleases you. Meditate on it and repeat it continuously with accurate care and steady attention; tune in to the Voice of God within you. Do not pay heed to the obstacles that come in the way, in the form of satire and criticism that people around you give freely. They may be experts only on short-lived trivialities of social life or sensual pleasure. Persist on your practices – your own experience will tell you the validity and value of this experiment! – Divine Discourse of Swami Satya Sai..

Message For The Day….Silence to Control Our Senses…

The silence you maintain in temples and devotional congregation must be carried over to wherever you go. It must be taken as an exercise in the control of the senses. Senses always are exterior oriented. The tongue should not talk evil. The eyes should not look out for evil. The ears should not seek evil. The presence of God in every being makes everyone holy. Thinking low of others amounts to thinking low of God. You must always cultivate the feeling that God is the Father and everyone around you are brothers and sisters. This brotherhood is more real and binding than the blood brotherhood, for here the paternal property for which you struggle can be shared without the share of the other being diminished in any way. Poornasya Poornamaadaaya Poomamevaavasishyate – When the Full is subtracted from the Full, what is left is still Full!

They decided to build an engine on their own and that was the historic moment when Harley Davidson invented their first motor bike. Today Harley Davidson is among the best motor bike brand company in the world.
 Dell
While attending the University of Texas in 1984, Michael Dell established the company as PCs Limited. The way to the success that Dell now enjoys started with an idea and only $1,000 investment. Initial operations of Dell’s company executed from Dell’s dorm room, until he resolute to leave college to run his company full time basis. In 1985, the company generated the first computer of its own design, and by 1988 had an IPO that treasured the company at nearly $80 million.
 Amazon
Amazon.com is at present the largest online book selling company. Jeff Bezos initially commenced the business in his garage. It started with marketing books through internet and skyrocketed as an online corporation that sells a varied list of products such as computers and other electronic items. Though the firm has undergone two legal suits but still continues to rise high and maintain the position to be the “world’s largest bookstore”.
. HP
In 1939, two electrical engineering Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard, graduates from Stanford, established an electronics manufacturing company in a one-car garage in Palo Alto,

Today Google is a colloquial term also often used as a common verb in our daily life. Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin moved out of the dorm, officially included the Google name, and ended raising $1 million from a few investors.
For the five months Google worked out of Wojcicki’s garage, Page and Brin exchanged between trifling with their search engine’s now famous algorithm, soaking in the hot tub, and raiding the refrigerator for midnight snacks, a custom that may have stimulated Google’s free-food policy for all its employees.
Apple
Nearly all remember the sight in Forest Gump when he explains that he never has to be troubled about money again because of his investment in the fruit company called “Apple.” This is the scenario with all most all the investors of Apple Inc. Apple commenced in the garage of a young man called Steve Wozniack. Wozniack and his long time friend Steve Jobs were very mush interested to build a computer on their own.
In 1976; both approached a local electronics store to see if they would be interested in buying a personal computer that Wozniack had built. The next very moment they got an order of 50 computers. Though both Wozniack and Steve were out of cash, but then managed to convince few electronic dealers to deal on a credit basis. Apple has established to be the company that creates the industry standard time and time again. The journey from the garage of Steve Wozniack to being ranked 103 on the Fortune 500, Apple persists to grow more and more.
