Chandigarh teen’s doodle on Google, Nov 14 ….

More than 100 million people across India will take a dekko at an Indian emblem, a winning Google doodle, on the search engine’s homepage Children’s Day Nov 14, the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister.

The doodle, “A Prism of Multiplicity” showing a soccer player, a kathakali dancer, gold jewellery, a peacock, a farmer and flowers, was created by Arun Kumar Yadav, a teenager and a student from Chandigarh.

Yadav was declared winner of the Doodle4Google contest, which received 200,000 submissions from 60 Indian cities.

The winning entries were announced at a small picnic-cum-felicitation ceremony at the Rail Museum in the capital.

Three teenaged students, Vasudevan Deepak from Kozhikode, Shravya Manjunath from Bangalore and S. Preetham Paul from Visakhapatnam, were the winners. Their doodles will be uploaded on a site called Classmate, and accessible for viewing on the search engine.

The competition was judged by a two-member jury comprising cartoonist Ajit Ninan and actor Boman Irani.

“The theme for this year’s competition was ‘Unity in Diversity’.

Political cartoonist Ajit Ninan, an avid “Googler”, said his professional life was woven into Google.

“My day as a cartoonist starts with this Bible, Google. There is no time for reference or visual dictionaries in the ‘sabzi mandi (vegetable market)’ of Indian politics. All the information is available at the click of the mouse,” Ajit Ninan said.

The Doodle4Google competition was instituted four years ago to encourage children to take up creative work, Rajan Anandan, vice-president and managing director, Google India, said.

“We are also promoting art awareness through Google. The search engine has tied up with 41 countries under the Google Art Project to bring the best world art to more than two billion Internet users. Art is the least accessible of all other genres,” Anandan said.

“You can visit the best museums in London and Paris with your computer — without moving out of your home,” Anandan said.

Anandan said that Google was working on a history and culture project.

Blogging Powers a Business Venture !!!

How four avid bloggers from Chennai made IndiBlogger into a Rs 1 crore venture….

Offering an interface between companies and clients, IndiBlogger has grown to a Rs 1 crore venture.

For most people, blogging serves as a good pastime, a forum to air or read views and opinions. However, for four yuppies from Chennai, harnessing the power of blogs has proved to be a money-minting venture—a Rs 1 crore business, to be precise. “We were all avid bloggers and saw the potential early, so we based our business idea on it,” says 33-year-old Renie Ravin, managing director of IndiBlogger.

Launched in August 2007, IndiBlogger.in started as a free blogging platform for Indians. However, the founders—Renie Ravin, Karthik DR, Vineet Rajan and Anoop Johnson—had a bigger game plan: to mobilise the blogosphere, a nascent field at the time, so that companies and brands could engage with their customers. The idea was conceptualised by the founders (barring Rajan), all in their 20s, at a party in early August 2007. At the time, Karthik and Johnson were selling security solutions for Ostsold Software, and Ravin—also Johnson’s childhood friend—was working as a Web architect for Broadspire, a software company, in Chennai. Convinced that they were on to a good thing, the trio quit their respective jobs shortly afterwards and focused on their start-up. Rajan left his account manager’s job with Hewlett Packard, Hyderabad, to join IndiBlogger after a bloggers’ meet in Pune, in March 2008.

Luckily for the founders, they found an angel investor in their friend Nitin Bindal, who chipped in with the seed capital of Rs 32 lakh. The money was spent on building infrastructure and marketing. “Since we are based in different cities, conference calls remain one of the biggest cost centres for us,” says Ravin, who is based in Chennai. Johnson, director of marketing, lives in Bangalore, Delhi-based Karthik is director, finance, and Rajan, director, pre-sales and consulting, lives in Mumbai.

Here’s how IndiBlogger works: Registering one’s blog is free of charge, but members must publish at least five blog posts to continue to be a part of the community. The company’s eight-strong team handles support and moderation from Chennai and Bangalore. The revenue comes from connecting brands and bloggers via unique blogging contests and meets, which are organised periodically across the country. The idea stems from the fact that brands see value in connecting with bloggers, who can influence the purchase decisions of their peer groups. In fact, a Neilsen report, Global Trust in Advertising Survey 2011, shows that less than a third of Netizens trust advertisements, while 92% have faith in peer and word-of-mouth recommendations.

Be Happy at Your Work….

5 Ways You Can Be Happier at Work Right Now

No matter how passionate you are about your business, the stress, long hours, and a myriad of worries can leave you feeling unhappy at work. According to a June 2012 report by the Conference Board, an independent business membership and research association, only 47% of Americans are satisfied with their jobs.
“We spend way too much time at work to not be happy,” says Beth Thomas, author of Powered by Happy: How to Get and Stay Happy at Work (Sourcebooks, 2010). Being unhappy at work can not only affect your mood, but your productivity and your company’s bottom line.
Bring joy into your job and improve your company’s success with these tips:
1. Stay rooted in the present. “Many of our negative thoughts come from worrying about situations that may never happen,” says Thomas. While entrepreneurs often have to make contingency plans, constantly thinking about the worst case scenario can place undue stress on your body and mind and drain it of resources that are better used in more productive ways.
“The best way to deal with negative thoughts is to separate fiction from fact,” says Thomas. So, the next time you find yourself facing a negative thought, analyze the situation and ask whether you’re reacting to a real or imagined situation.

2. Engage in positive thinking. Shifting negative thoughts to positive ones can help to improve your mood and mindset. “Every time a negative thought comes into your head, stop and think about a positive one,” says Thomas. Do this for a few weeks and you’ll quickly notice that you’re creating a new habit that will enhance your happiness not only at work, but in your daily life.

3. Help others. Whether getting involved in philanthropic activities or helping your staff improve in their jobs, Thomas says charity is the secret to lasting happiness. “Happiness at work isn’t about what you alone achieve. It’s not about helping yourself look better, but about making everyone on your team perform better,” says Thomas.
Setting up an employee mentoring program where senior staff members assist junior staff, or getting your staff involved in a philanthropic activity such as a local food drive or a charity cycling event can improve the happiness of everyone in the office.

4.Take a break. While entrepreneurs are often motivated by positive stress, the kind that pushes us to do more, it’s important to recognize when your mind and body need a break. “Even if you like your job, stress can weigh you down and make you unhappy,” says Thomas. Schedule a few days off or find an outlet after work or on the weekend to have fun, rest your mind and rejuvenate yourself.

5. Keep a gratitude journal. Happiness doesn’t come from getting something you don’t have, but recognizing and appreciating what you do have. Write down five things you’re grateful for each day before you start work, or before you leave the office at the end of the day, to retrain your brain to focus on the positive.

Confidence Building Tips ….For All Ages !!!

source:::::sai group net …

Natarajan

We’re all victims of occasional bouts of self-doubt, even the most successful, charismatic, confident among us have their moments of insecurity. Self-confidence can be a very delicate and complex thing. A few are born with it; others learn it early on and the rest of us have to learn to build it on our own.

Our confidence plays an important role in ability to achieve success and happiness. It affects our mental thought patterns, the way we speak, the way we act, and the decisions we make in all areas of our lives – career, money, relationships, and even our health.Confident people take more action, perform better, and are more likely to attain their goals. In addition, confident people also know how to take more enjoyment from their accomplishments are happier in general.

Lucky for us, confidence can be built and strengthened until it becomes natural, just as any other habit. It simply takes a little time, some effort, and a bit of attention.

Confidence Building Tactics

1.Fail More Often. The more challenges you take on, the more failures you’ll have, but learning that you can recover, get up and push forward builds confidence.

2.Track your accomplishments. Keep a list of successes, big and small. It’ll help you to see your abilities in a more positive (and realistic) light.

3.Don’t compare. Stop measuring yourself against others. What you see isn’t always real. Making comparisons is a damaging and an inaccurate measure of success anyway.

4.Dress for confidence. How we dress affects both how we feel about ourselves and the way others perceive us. Expensive clothes aren’t necessary. Put emphasis on good fit, good condition, and appropriateness. Don’t be afraid of some color; black is professional, but color gets noticed.

5.Work on your posture. People with lower confidence often tend to have poor posture. Stand up, sit up, and keep your head up. It’s an instant confidence booster.

6.Learn. The more knowledge you acquire, the more confident you will be. Knowledge is power, and the more powerful you feel, the higher your confidence will be.

7.Fitness. Better physical condition and appearance gives you more body confidence, and as a bonus, the extra endorphins give you an added energy boost.

8.Start a conversation. When you find yourself in a social situation, instead of gravitating to those people you’re comfortable with, start a conversation with someone you don’t know very well. Eventually getting to know new people will become easier.

9.Have miniature goals. Bite sized goals are easier and quicker to achieve and the momentum can give you a boost when attacking bigger goals.

10.Raise your hand. Volunteer to take on tasks or projects that are a stretch for you. You’ll learn you can do more than you thought you could and so will others.

11.Be around confident people. Cultivate relationships with “can-do” people; attitude is contagious. On the other hand, avoid “can’t do” people. It works both ways.

12.Be your own friend. When you hear that voice in your head, abusing, attacking and belittling you, remind yourself that a friend wouldn’t talk to you in that manner.

13.Rely on your instincts. When you trust your intuition, and listen to those gut feelings, you’ll become more confident in the knowledge that you do know what’s right for you.

14.Keep practicing. Practice the skills you need to succeed. The more you practice, the more confident you become. This is true of every type of skill.

Confidence helps you to be more secure in your abilities and more positive in your attitude. It also encourages you to be more assertive, to take on more challenges, and to improve your skills. As an added benefit, you’ll attract like-minded people. The end result is a better outlook, more success, and a higher quality of life in all areas.

Natarajan

Challenges Keep us Fresh…Like the Japanese Fish !!!!!

Man thrives, oddly enough, only in the presence of
a challenging environment

– The Japanese story

The Japanese have always loved fresh fish. But the waters close to
Japan have not held many fish for decades. So to feed the Japanese
population, fishing boats got bigger and went farther than ever. The
farther the fishermen went, the longer it took to bring in the fish.

If the return trip took more than a few days, the fish were not fresh.
The Japanese did not like the taste.

To solve this problem, fishing companies installed freezers on their
boats. They would catch the fish and freeze them at sea. Freezers
allowed the boats to go farther and stay longer.

However, the Japanese could taste the difference between fresh and
frozen and they did not like frozen fish. The frozen fish brought a
lower price. So fishing companies installed fish tanks. They would
catch the fish and stuff them in the tanks, fin to fin. After a little
thrashing around, the fish stopped moving. They were tired and dull,
but alive.

Unfortunately, the Japanese could still taste the difference. Because
the fish did not move for days, they lost their fresh-fish taste.

The Japanese preferred the lively taste of fresh fish, not sluggish fish.

So how did Japanese fishing companies solve this problem? How do they
get fresh-tasting fish to Japan?

To keep the fish tasting fresh, the Japanese fishing companies (still)
put the fish in the tanks. But now they add a small shark to each
tank. The fish, in an attempt to run away from the shark, stay
constantly alert and hence, fresh. The shark may eat a few fish, but
most of the fish arrive in a very lively state.

Lessons from the story:

Like the Japanese fish – “Man thrives, oddly enough, only in the
presence of a challenging environment.”- L. Ron Hubbard.

Challenges are what keep us FRESH! Instead of avoiding challenges,
jump into them. Beat the heck out of them.

Enjoy the game. If your challenges are too large or too numerous,
reorganize the challenge, team up, be resourceful and do not give up.
Failing makes you tired.

If you have met your goals, set some bigger goals.

Once you meet your personal or family needs, move onto goals for your
group, the society, even mankind.

Don’t create success and lie in it.

You have resources, skills and abilities to make a difference.

Put a shark in your tank and see how far you can really go!

Message For the Day….See the God Within You…..

It is true that milk contains butter; sesame seeds contain oil; cane yields sugar. But by merely holding milk in the hand, you cannot get butter; filling the lamp with sesame seeds you cannot light the wick, shaking the cane will not result in a shower of sugar. By placing sweets on a plate in front of you and reciting 108 times “sweets, sweets..” can your tongue relish it? Similarly you study many holy books, and chant mantras and hymns. Of course, the time spent in these activities is thereby rendered holy. But, these are not helping you to transform the work you are engaged in into an offering acceptable to God. Are you putting into practice at least one percent of what you read or recite? Mere reading and singing will not free you from the cycle of birth and death. God has to be planted firmly in the mind, the omnipresent God has to be enshrined in the heart; God has to flow with the blood in the veins. God has to be visualised through the inner eye.
