AN AMERICANISED HINDU BOY EXPLAINING DIWALI-

A young second generation Jaffna Hindu boy (14) living in Chicago was asked by his doctor mother to explain the significance of “Diwali” to his younger brother (11).

This is how he went about Diwali:

“So, like this guy, called Ram had, like, a big cool kingdom and people liked him. But, like, his step-mom, or something, was kind of a bitch, and she forced her husband to, like, send this cool-guy Ram, to some national forest or something..!

Since he was going, for like, something like more than 10 years or so., he decided to get his wife and his bro along… you know…so that they could all chill out together..!

But the forest was reeeeal scary shit… really man…they had monkeys and devils and shit like that.

But this guy, Ram, kicked with dash and bows and arrows…. so it was fine.
But then some bad gangster boys, some jerk called Ravan, picks up his babe, Sita and lures her away to his hood.

And boy, was our man, and also his bro, Laxman, pissed..!

All the Gods were with him..!…?.? So anyways, you don’t mess with gods..!

So, Ram, and his bro get an army of monkeys..!..?

Guy, don’t ask me how they trained the damn monkeys… just go along with me, ok..!

So, Ram, Lax and their monkeys whip this gangster’s ass in his own hood..!
Anyways, by this time, their time’s up in the forest.. and anyways..it gets kinda boring, you know… no TV or malls or shit like that.

So, they decided to hitch a ride back home..!

And when the people realize that our guy, his bro and the wife are back home…they thought, well, you know, at least they deserve something nice..!
And they didn’t have any bars or clubs in those days…so they couldn’t take them out for a drink..!

So they, like, decided to smoke and stuff..!

And since they also had some lamps, they lit the lamps also…so it was pretty cooool.. you know with all those fireworks..!

And this is how it started Diwali..!”

The mother fainted.!

“Lion Dog ” in Virginia USA…..

A dog that looks like a lion has caused panic in Norfolk, Virginia in the United States.

The dog was spotted by residents as it wandered the streets near a zoo, prompting several calls to emergency services.

One alarmed caller said, ‘There was a lion that ran across the street – a baby lion. It was about the size of a Labrador Retriever’, reports the Virginian-Pilot.

‘It’s roaming loose in the neighborhood’, she said.

Virginia Zoo officials were soon contacted and assured local authorities that no lions were missing from the compound.

The ‘lion’ was in fact a labradoodle (a labrador-poodle mix) named Charles the Monarch who has been shaved to look like he has a mane because he is a local university mascot at Old Dominion University.

His owner says it’s not the first time Charles has sparked police calls as the dog is often mistaken for a lion.

“Has The Water Entered my ship ” ?!!!

source:::::unknown….input from a friend of mine…

natarajan

In 1923, nine of the wealthiest people in the world met at Chicago’s Edgewater Beach Hotel. Their combined wealth, it is estimated, exceeded the wealth of the Government of the United States at that time.

These men certainly knew how to make a living and accumulate wealth.

Attending the meeting were the following men:

1. The President of the largest steel company,

2. The President of the largest utility company,

3. The President of the largest gas company,

4. The President of the New York Stock Exchange,

5. The President of the Bank of International Settlements,

6. The greatest wheat speculator,

7. The greatest bear on Wall Street,

8. A member of President Harding’s cabinet.

9. The head of the World’s greatest monopoly

That’s a pretty impressive line-up of people by anyone’s yardstick.

Yet, let’s examine what happened to them 25 years later:

1. The President of the then largest steel company (Bethlehem Steel Corp), Charles M Schwab, lived on borrowed capital for five years before he died bankrupt.

2. The President of the largest utility company, Samuel Insull, died penniless!

3. The President of the then largest gas company, Howard Hubson, went insane.

4. The then President of the New York Stock Exchange, Richard Whitney, was sent to jail.

5. The President of the Bank of International Settlement, Leon Fraser, committed suicide.

6. One of the greatest commodity traders (Wheat Speculator) , Arthur Cutten, died insolvent.

7. The greatest “bear” on Wall Street, Jesse Livermore committed suicide.

8. The member of the US President’s Cabinet (the member of President Harding’s cabinet), Albert Fall, was pardoned from jail just to be able to go home and die in peace.

9. The President of the then world’s greatest monopoly, Ivar Krueger, committed suicide.

What they forgot was how to “make” life while they got busy making money! Money in itself is not evil. It is only a medium of exchange.
We need two kinds of education. One that teaches us how to make a living and the second how to live.

Many of us get so engrossed in professional life that we neglect our family, health, social responsibilities. And when asked why we do it, we would reply “For our family”

However, our kids are sleeping when we leave home. They are sleeping when we come home! 25years later, we’ll turn back and they’ll be gone to pursue their own dreams and lives.

Lessons from a Ship:

Without water, a ship cannot move. It needs water but if the water gets into the ship, it will face existential problems. What was a “means of living ”becomes a “means of destruction”.

Similarly we live in time where earning is a necessity but let not the earning enter our hearts, for what was once a means of living will surely become a means of destruction for us as well!

So take a moment to ask yourself:

“Has the water entered my ship?”

Budget iPhone From Apple ?

Budget iPhone in the works: Apple set to launch cheaper version later this year
The less expensive phone is likely to resemble the standard iPhone but with a cheaper body
Most of the other parts could remain the same or be recycled from older iPhone models
Cheaper product has been in the works since at least 2009 with Apple seeing it as a way to grab market share and introduce people to the brand
But executives fear it may dent profits and turn off investors

Apple is developing a cheaper version of its iPhone and could launch the new device as early as this year.
The tech giant has been exploring a lower-end iPhone for years but plans have accelerated as Apple’s supremacy in smartphones has slipped, sources told the Wall Street Journal.
The less expensive phone is likely to resemble the standard iPhone, but with a different, cheaper body. Making the shell out of polycarbonate plastic rather than the aluminum casing of the iPhone 5 would allow Apple to lower the cost.

Most of the other parts could remain the same or be recycled from older iPhone models, according to the WSJ.
Launching the cheaper phone would be a big shift in corporate strategy. Under former chief executive Steve Jobs, Apple prided itself prioritizing profits over scale and offered a relatively small number of products mostly targeting the high end.

American Innovation Award for Indian-American….

ranga

Washington: A renowned Indian-American inventor at IBM, Rangaswamy Srinivasan, has been nominated by U.S. President Barack Obama for the prestigious National Medal of Technology and Innovation.

Along with Srinivasan, President Obama named 12 eminent researchers as recipients of the National Medal of Science and 10 extraordinary inventors for the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the highest honours bestowed by the U.S. government upon scientists, engineers, and inventors.

The recipients will receive their awards at a White House ceremony in early 2013.

In 1981, Srinivasan discovered that an ultraviolet excimer laser could etch living tissues in a precise manner with no thermal damage to the surrounding area. He named the phenomenon Ablative Photo Decomposition (APD). According to his profile on the Hall of Fame website, Srinivasan and his co-inventors ran tests using the excimer laser and a conventional, green laser to etch organic matter. They discovered that while the green laser produced rough incisions, damaged by charring from the heat, the excimer laser produced clean, neat incisions.

In 1983, he collaborated with an ophthalmic surgeon to develop APD to etch the cornea. It resulted in a procedure to correct vision known today as Lasik surgery. Since the introduction of Lasik, millions of people have taken advantage of this procedure that reduces dependency on corrective lenses.

Inducted into the U.S. “Inventor Hall of Fame” in 2002, Srinivasan has spent 30 years at IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Center. He has 21 U.S. patents under his name and received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in science from the University of Madras, in 1949 and 1950. He earned doctorate in physical chemistry at the University of southern California in 1956.

“I am proud to honour these inspiring American innovators,” President Obama said, adding: “They represent the ingenuity and imagination that has long made this nation great, and they remind us of the enormous impact a few good ideas can have when these creative qualities are unleashed in an entrepreneurial environment.”

The National Medal of Technology and Innovation was created by statute in 1980 and is administered for the White House by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Patent and Trademark Office. The award recognises those who have made lasting contributions to America’s competitiveness and quality of life and helped strengthen the nation’s technological workforce.

The National Medal of Science was created in 1959 and is administered for the White House by the National Science Foundation.
