*The Samosa Vendor.*

A short, but, a real story

*Today in India its unbelievable …….the numbers are a little difficult
to swallow, , … but interesting nevertheless.*

*It was my regular train journey home from work. I boarded the 18:50pm
train at from Paranur. When the train was about to leave Guduvanchery, a
samosa vendor with an empty basket got on and took the seat next to me. As
the compartment was sparsely occupied and my destination was still far
away, I got into a conversation with him.**

**Me: “Seems like you’ve sold all your samosas today.”*

*Vendor (smiling): “Yes. By God’s grace, full sales today.”*

*Me: “I really feel sorry for you people. Don’t you get tired doing ****this
tiresome job the whole day?”**
**Vendor: “What to do, sir? Only by selling samosas like this every day do
we get a commission of .75 paise for each samosa that we sell.”**

**Me: “Oh, is that so ? How many samosas do do sell on an average each day?”
*

*Vendor: “On peak days, we sell 3,000 to 3,500 samosas per person. On **
**dull days, we can’t even move 1,000 samosas a day. On an average, we **
**sell about 2,000 samosas a day.”**

**I was speechless…..for a few seconds. The guy says he sells 2,000
samosas a day; at .75 paise each, he makes about 1,500 rupees daily, or
45,000 rupees a month. That’s Rs. 45,000 a month. OMG. I intensified my
questioning and this time it was not for time pass.**

**Me: “Do you make the samosas yourself?”**
**Vendor: “No Sir. Our propreitor gets the samosas through a samosa
manufacturer and we just sell them. After selling we give him the ****money
and gives us 75 paise for each samosa that we sell.”**

**I was unable to speak a single word more but the vendor continued…but
one thing…most of our earnings are spent on living expenses. Only with
the remaining money are we able to take care of other business.**

**Me: “Other business? What is that?”**
**Vendor: “It is a land business. In 2007 I bought 1.5 acres in Urupakkam
for 3 lakh rupees and I sold it a few months back for 15 lakhs. Now I have
bought land in Uthiramerur for 5 lakh rupees.”**

**Me: “What did you do with the remaining amount?”*

*Vendor: “Of the remaining amount, I have set aside 6 lakhs for my
daughter’s wedding. I have deposited the other 4 lakhs in the bank.”**

**Me: “How much schooling have you had?”*

*Vendor: “I studied up to third standard; I stopped my studies when I was
in the 4th standard. But I know how to read and write. Sir, there are many
people like yourself, who dress well, wear a tie, wear shoes, ****speak
English fluently and work in air-coditioned rooms. But I don’t ****think
you guys earn as much as we do wearing dirty clothes and selling samosas.”**

**At this point, what could I reply. After all, I was talking to a
millionaire! The train chugged into Chromepet station and the samosa ****vendor
got up from his seat.**

**Vendor: “Sir, this is my station…have a good day.”*

*Me: “Take care.”**

**What more is there to say…!*

Do you know ? The Goldberg Brothers – The Inventors of the Automobile Air Conditioner

Here’s a little fact for automotive buffs or just to dazzle your friends.

The four Goldberg brothers, Lowell, Norman, Hiram, and Max, invented
and developed the first automobile air-conditioner. On July 17, 1946,
the temperature in Detroit was 97 degrees.

The four brothers walked into old man Henry Ford’s office and sweet-talked his secretary into telling him that four gentlemen were there with the most exciting innovation in the auto industry since the electric starter. Henry was curious and invited them into his office.
They refused and instead asked that he come out to the parking lot to their car.
They persuaded him to get into the car, which was about 130 degrees, turned on the air conditioner, and cooled the car off immediately.
The old man got very excited and invited them back to the office, where he offered them $3 million for the patent. The brothers refused, saying they would settle for $2 million, but
they wanted the recognition by having a label, ‘The Goldberg Air-Conditioner,’ on the dashboard of each car in which it was installed.

Now old man Ford was more than just a little anti-Semitic, and there was no way he was going to put the Goldberg’s name on two million Fords.

They haggled back and forth for about two hours and finally agreed on $4 million and that just their first names would be shown.

And so to this day, all Ford air conditioners show — Lo, Norm, Hi,
and Max — on the controls.

Update: turns out the story is a mere Hoax!

SANATANA DHARMAM….MAHA PERIAVAA”S VIEW POINT…

SOURCE::::INPUT FROM ONE OF MY FRIENDS…. SHARED WITH YOU ALL….

Natarajan

Sanatana dharmam explained in simple words…..

Once a foreigner interested in the philosophy of Hinduism was waiting for
Darshan of Mahaperiyaval ( Most revered Mahaswami) at Kanchi Mutt to
clarify his doubt. Shortly, he got his appointment and without wasting time,
he put forth his question.

Swamiji, I understand all your concepts, value them but for one particular
faith (i.e.) same soul taking various births, papa, punya being carried
forward to the next births etc. Can you please make me comfortable on this
aspect? Because, in all our religions, we get the reward for what we do in
this birth only. (i.e.) if we are honest, God is pleased and blesses us
with benefits and we are dishonest, we get punished by Him.

At this point, Periyaval asked him, whether he owns a car and if he could
do a favour of collecting some statistical information within Kancheepuram
using his vehicle. The guest readily agreed, at the same time wondering why
his question was not answered spontaneously.

Please, Swamiji, go ahead, What is the service you expect me to do now?

Periyaval said, Please go around 10 maternity centres within Kancheepuram
and collect the data of children born within the last 2 days – Child’s
gender, health condition, parents name, status, educational qualification,
time of birth.

The man said – Fine, this is nothing, – immediately rushed in his car like
Lord Muruga goes in Thiruvilayadal and within a day he was back in the
matam with exact statistics in front of Mahaperiyaval. He went through the
statistics, about 15 children were born in 10 hospitals, 8 female and 7
male infants, out of which 3 children had malnutrition defects, 2 children
were the first child of highly rich parents born in luxury hospitals, while
4 were children of coolie labourers who already had few children.

Mahaperiyaval now looked at the gentleman and started asking few questions:

Do you think any of these children have been honest / dishonest within 2
days of their birth? Probably they could not even recognize their own
mother. So, they have neither earned papa or punya in this birth. According
to your concepts, all these children should be living exactly identical to
each other, but not so practically, some are ill, some are healthy, some
are born to rich parents, some are born to poor parents.
Remember all children born in the same day, same longitude, latitude, you
can’t blame their horoscope which is going to be almost identical.

The gentleman was dumbfounded!

It is here the concept of previous birth erupts! All these children have
taken their present birth according to their deeds (karma) and the
resultant papa, punya which they have assimilated in their previous births.

Sanatana Dharma was smiling at the gentleman through Maha Periyaval.

English Words with Tamil Origin

How many words can you think in English which directly or indirectly were derived from Tamil? Here is list (Source: Wikipedia).. please comment if you can think of more words – Natarajan

  1. Tamil itself
  2. alvar : from Tamil āl̤vār, derivative of ār̤- sink, be absorbed (as in contemplation)[1]

The primary meaning of the word cash, “paper money”, or “money” in general, may be from French caisse, Provençal caissa, Italian cassa “money box” from Vulgar Latincapsa “chest, box”. A secondary meaning of cash, referring to any of the various coins used in southern India and China, could be from Malayalam or Tamil காசு kācu (Source: OED, AHD, MWD)[9]
  20. coolie : Of disputed origin. OED states Tamil is proposed by some as the language of origin, from கூலி cooli a Tamil word for “labour”. Alternatively, it could refer to a tribe from Gujarat, whose members were frequently employed as manual laborers.
  21. ginger: The English word ginger is derived from the Middle English gingivere, which in turn comes from Old English gingifer and from Old French gingivre, both from Medieval Latin gingiber. The Latin word is derived from Greek ζιγγίβερις zingiberis, of Middle Indic origin (akin to Pali सिन्गिभेरम् singiveram), from Dravidian roots, akin to Tamil இஞ்சி வேர் iñcivēr — இஞ்சி iñci = ginger (of southeast Asian origin) + Tamil வேர் vēr = root.

There are four engineers traveling in a car.

a mechanical engineer, a chemical engineer, an electrical engineer and a computer engineer.

The car breaks down. Sounds to me as if the pistons have seized.

we will have to strip down the engine before we can get the car working again, says the mechanical engineer.

Well, says the chemical engineer, it sounded to me as if the fuel might be contaminated.

I think we should clear out the fuel system.I thought it might be an grounding problem, says the electrical engineer,

or maybe a faulty plug lead. They all turn to the computer engineer who has said nothing and say Well, what do you think. Ummm perhaps if we all get out of the car and get back in again

Invisible Helmet

Interesting invention, but is style so much more important than safety? – Read below to know more

HOW

HÖVDING

WORKS

Hövding is a bicycle helmet unlike any other currently on the market. It’s ergonomic, it’s practical, it complies with all the safety requirements, and it’s also subtle and blends in with what else you are wearing.

Hövding is a collar for bicyclists, worn around the neck. The collar contains a folded up airbag that you’ll only see if you happen to have an accident. The airbag is shaped like a hood, surrounding and protecting the bicyclist’s head. The trigger mechanism is controlled by sensors which pick up the abnormal movements of a bicyclist in an accident.

The actual collar is the visible part of the invention. It’s covered by a removable shell that you can change to match your outfit, and we’ll be launching new designs all the time. Hövding is a practical accessory that’s easy to carry around, it’s got a great-looking yet subtle design, and it will save your life.

AIRBAG

The airbag is shaped like a hood that surrounds your head. It’s made in an ultra-strong nylon fabric that won’t rip when scraped against asphalt. The way the hood is designed and folded into the collar ensures that it will inflate quickly and safely. It takes about 0.1 seconds to inflate and the airbag will be fully inflated before head impact. Hövding protects nearly all of the head while leaving the field of vision open. The airbag provides soft and effective shock absorption and maintains constant pressure for several seconds, making it able to withstand several impacts to the head in the same accident. After that the airbag slowly starts to deflate.

GAS INFLATOR

The gas inflator that inflates the airbag is placed in a holder in the collar on the bicyclist’s back. Hövding’s gas inflator is a cold gas inflator that uses helium and it’s one of the smallest gas inflators on the market. A similar inflator is used in a motorcycle helmet with airbag system.

SENSORS

The airbag is deployed by sensors – accelerometers and gyros – that pick up a bicyclist’s abnormal movements in the event of an accident. The sensors then send a signal to the gas inflator to inflate the airbag.

COLLAR

The collar with its shell is the visible part of Hövding, which encases the whole airbag system. All the components are located inside the collar for optimum ergonomics and performance. The weight of the collar is evenly distributed across the shoulders and it is heavier at the back than at the front so that when bicycling the weight is resting on your back. The instant it is triggered, the pressure from the airbag splits open the upper seam of the collar, allowing the hood to inflate around your head.

The collar is made of waterproof functional fabric, chosen to provide the ultimate protection for the airbag system it contains. The collar isn’t washable but it is protected from wear, sweat and dirt by the surrounding fabric shell. Any marks on the collar can be rubbed off carefully with a damp cloth.

SHELL

The shell surrounds the collar. The most important function of the shell is to enable you to change the look of your Hövding – every day if you feel like it. The shell is removable and attaches to the collar with zips. It’s easy to change the shell to match your outfit, to suit the season or to wash it.

The shell’s appearance can be varied in a virtually endless number of designs, colours, patterns and fabrics, turning Hövding into a fashion accessory. At the moment there are two different shell designs to choose from but we will be launching new collections all the time.

Unlike the collar, the shell is washable.

FRONT ZIP

To put on your Hövding, place it around your neck and pull the zip at the front up under your chin. The zip needs to be completely closed for Hövding to work correctly. Hövding’s on/off button is on the zip tag.

BUTTON

Hövding is switched on and off using the zip at the front of the collar. There is an on/off switch on the zip tag. Pull up the zip and button the on/off snap fastener on the right-hand side of the collar to turn Hövding on. Turn it off by unbuttoning the on/off snap fastener.

THE “BLACK BOX”

Inside Hövding there is a black box. The box records 10 seconds of data on the bicyclist’s movement patterns during (and just before) a cycling accident. This data is interesting and valuable to us in our ongoing development work. We would be grateful if you could send in your Hövding to us if you are involved in a bicycling accident. We will examine the black box and recycle the product. To say thank you for your help, we’ll give you a discount on a new Hövding in return.

HANDLE “FACE BOOK ” WITH CARE !!!!!

Your Facebook Friend Can Harm Your Career, Check How!!

Facebook can be a very good tool for you to be in contact with your friends’ every day. You can stay in touch with each other even when you are far away from each other. The best part having an account in the Facebook is that, it helps you to get connected with a long time friend who was not in touch from so many years.

In spite of having these many advantages, there might be a same amount of disadvantages that you can face by having a Facebook account. One among those kinds of disadvantages is that, your Facebook friend might harm your career in a very bad way if you are not careful about that and when that happens you might wonder how that could have happened. If you are curious to know in what ways your Facebook friend might harm your career, here are few important ways you need to be careful upon your Facebook account, as reported by Stephen Cook on the Helium website.

Many people have the habit of leaving their Facebook profiles without any security. So, this can be an advantage even for your employer because, even if you are not connected with your boss directly on Facebook, they could have all the chances of checking out who your friends are. Profile picture on the Facebook matters a lot, it might be your own profile picture or it can be one of your friend’s profile pictures.

So, be careful while selecting the profile picture or have a look at the profile picture your friends have on their account because inappropriate profile pictures might make the hiring manager or your employer think upon the bad friends circle you have and they would also think that you might be just acting professionally during the time you spend in the office and your are crazy person during the weekends by partying with a bad friends circle. This type of thought has all the chances of harming your career as your boss would have developed a kind of suspicious attitude towards you.

Apart from the profile pictures, be careful about what your friends post on your wall. If you have accepted your employer as a friend on the Facebook, then they can easily check out what your friends have posted on your wall. Well, then even this will become a matter of trustworthiness when they see some inappropriate things over there.  Even posting unrelated rumors about your personal or professional life by your friends might harm your career in a very big way all together. Posting anything which contains double meaning in it can also harm your career.

Sometimes your friends can tag you in a picture that can look nasty. Apart from looking after what your friends might do on your profile, even you need to be very careful while you post something on your profile. The only thing you need to understand is that, you cannot control your friends in the same way you control yourself. So, have a good thought before accepting any friend request in the future because if your reputation is trashed once, then it can never ever be changed in the future. So, select friends on Facebook who can be trusted upon in the future, with a bit of commonsense and smartness.

WHY SHOULD I RAIN ?… RAIN CLOUD IS ASKING US !!!!!!

SOURCE::::UNKNOWN…. A PERTINENT QUESTION RAISED BY RAIN GOD OR CLOUD ….IT IS FOR US TO ANSWER……..

Natarajan

WE HAVE GONE TOO FAR IN A WRONG ROUTE – COMPLETE INDUSTRIALISATION –
WHILE OUR COUNTRY IS BASICALLY AGRICULTURE ORIENTED.  NOW ALL TANKS, LAKES, CULTIVABLE LANDS HAVE TURNED INTO CONCRETE BUILDINGS FOR  NOWADAYS IT HAS BECOME THE PRIME OBJECT OF EVERYONE TO OWN AT LEAST ONE HOUSE…SO THE MAD WORLD HAS TOTALLY  FORGOTTEN ABOUT AGRICULTURE WHICH IS GOING TO RESULT IN 10 OR 15 YEARS’ TIME MAN HAS TO EAT ONLY …….WHAT?????? NO RAIN SO NO WATER AND SO NO CULTIVATION… WE DUG SO NICELY OUR OWN GRAVES…..ENJOY!

I am a Conscious Rain-Cloud – “I chose”
only the Green fields!

I prefer like this fields
This place….I like to rain here!
I often visit here to drizzle….
I roll over here in the meadows…
Concrete – Jungle with No Green Trees
Here…You men uproot trees & greeneries

 `

No grass fields – but piling wastes!
Not on grass fields – kids playing on garbage!
Mounting wastes and garbage of the world!
Deserting civilization

Result would be: Desert & Barren lands sooner everywhere in the World!
Reasons I, the Rain can say:
1. Industrialization produces more and more “colorful synthetic wastes” which destroys my soil and my water resources.
2. You refuse to respect Agriculture and Natural living.
3. Hence, you destroy Green fields and Forests and creating acres of huge-mega sized industries and concrete IT parks, only to destroy the 100s of Trees and plants living over there for decades.
4. You never take care to plant trees and grow greeneries over there, but take full precautions to prevent them growing in the fully paved concrete floors and path ways.
5. You consciously cut even the road/street side Trees which are planted and maintained by Govt local authorities, so as to have a clear view of  your mega malls and concrete parks!! You uproot trees and grass fields, strange, but placing plastic green-plants for your pleasing vision!!
So,
When there is no Trees and grass fields,
Why should I Rain?
For whom?that too on these lifeless ‘concrete Deserts’?
Rain-I am! A thinking-genius, you will realize it soon…!!
