Tablets….A Global Buzz in 2012…..

Tablets are the future of smart computing and in the year 2012 while the smartphones got bigger, the tablets got smaller. Thanks to a slew of releases, the 10-inch iPad has some serious competitors and while their screen size might be only 7-inches, we feel these three tablets have managed to create a buzz globally.

So why are these devices on the list? We’ve taken these three devices because they were definitely the most talked about online in 2012, and consumers were keen to know everything about them. From features and prices to reviews, these three 7-inch tablets were the talk of 2012 for good reasons and bad.

The Nexus 7: This Google tablet co-manufactured with Asus has a seven-inch screen, but don’t let the size fool you. The tablet which was announced at Google’s i/o conference in June, was the first 7-incher to house a 1.3GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core CPU, which includes a 12-core GPU. Not only did it have speed, the device had price on its side as well. It costs only $200, though in India it was launched for Rs 19,999, which is a tad pricey but hey, it’s still cheaper than the iPad mini.

The tablet also comes with the pure Google OS, Android Jelly Bean 4.1 ( at the time of the release) and this was upgraded to Jelly Bean 4.2 in November when Google launched the Nexus 10. So yes for Android fans who want the pure Google OS, this is the tablet to go for.

In terms of sales, the Nexus 7 did very well, despite the fact that it does not have cellular connectivity. According to Asus, Nexus 7 sales were close to 1 million a month. And according to IDC data, AsusTek saw its tablet shipments more than triple to 2.4 million and at the end of Q3 2012 it had a market share of 8.6 percent, up from 3.8 percent.

And yes, for the tech reviewers, this was an amazingly fast tablet. As this CNET review highlights:

the Nexus 7 feels lighter than the Kindle Fire and the soft, textured back makes the tablet comfortable to hold. Apps loaded quickly… The screen looks great, feels responsive, and the tablet already does a good job of demonstrating its power in games and movie performance.

Not only was it a fast tablet with a decent screen resolution (1280×800 pixels), and thus it set the bar for all the other tiny tablets.

The iPad mini: The big question with the iPad mini was always if Apple would launch a $200 device. Apple and cheap don’t always feature in the same sentence and perhaps the biggest disappointment with the iPad mini was its price. The 16GB version with just Wi-Fi starts at a whopping $329 while 16GB version with Wi-Fi plus cellular connectivity starts at $429. In India the device launched at Rs 21,900 which is still cheap considering the new iPod Touch starts Rs 23,900.

But yes, the iPad mini does come with cellular connectivity and for those who want to stay connected at all times, this would have been the perfect choice. The iPad mini has a has a dual-core A5 processor clocked at 1 GHZ, with a 7.9 inch screen (diagonally) and a screen resolution of 1024×768 pixels, making it around 163 pixels per inch.

Remember it also comes with a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 1.2 megapixel front FaceTime Camera unlike the Nexus 7 which doesn’t have a rear camera. So for those who can’t get through a day without clicking a picture, the iPad mini holds the edge.

For tech reviewers, the screen was a big let down as far as the iPad mini was concerned. Admittedly it is a powerful device that runs smoothly without any lag, but for Apple fans who are used to ‘Retina Display’ the screen just didn’t cut it.

But that didn’t mean the device didn’t do well. According to this report, Apple iPad mini sales exceeded expectations. Apple expects to ship nearly 8 million of these devices, which is still pretty high considering that a lot of people believe that the tablet is over-priced.

The rumour is that in 2013 Apple will launch the iPad mini 2 with Retina Display. Should Google be worried?

The Kindle Fire HD: After the launch of the Nexus 7 with its superior screen and processor, the question was whether Amazon could reply to Google’s challenge. And it did. The Kindle Fire HD was launched in September. Amazon’s new version of the 7-inch tablet now has an HD screen but the processor is still the dual-core one. So yes, images and videos were sharper, but in terms of speed and OS, Amazon’s Kindle has a long way to go.

The Kindle Fire HD still does not support cellular connectivity and while it does run Android 4.0, it’s still a watered-down version of the OS. Kindle Fire HD is being sold at $199, so in terms of price it is Nexus 7′s biggest competitor.

For those who order a lot of content from Amazon such as books, movies, etc, the Kindle Fire HD is definitely a better option. However for tech critics, the Kindle Fire HD was a major disappointment.

Amazon is still the number 3 supplier for tablets worldwide and has a market share of 9 percent. The question is whether the next version of the Kindle Fire will offer something drastic to hold on to its position in this highly competitive segment.

இன்று ஆருத்ரா தரிசன நன்னாள். இதே நன்னாளில் தான் இன்றைக்கு 133 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னால் பகவான் ரமணர், மதுரையை அடுத்த திருச்சுழியில் அவதரித்தார். திருவாதிரையை அடுத்த புனர்பூச நட்சத்திரத்தில் அவர் ஜனனம் நிகழ்ந்தது. பிரசவத்தின் போது ஒரு பார்வையற்ற கிழவி உடனிருந்தாள். அவர் ரமண அருட் குழந்தையாக அவதரித்த அச்சமயத்தில் ஒரு சில கணங்கள் மட்டும் “பேரொளி”யை தரிசிக்கும் பாக்யம் பெற்றாள். அப்பேரொளி பின்னர் அருணாசலத்தை நாடி வந்து, அங்கேயே வாழ்ந்து, அதனுடனேயே இறுதியில் இரண்டறக் கலந்தது.

ஒருமுறை ‘திருவாடனை
‘ என்னும் ஊரிலிருந்து பக்தர்கள் கூட்டம் பெரியவாளைத் தரிசிக்க வந்தது.
பெரியவர்கள் அன்று காஷ்ட மௌனம் இருந்தார். அதாவது, ஒரு சிறு சப்தம் கூட
எழுப்பாமல், முழுமையான மௌனத்தில் இருப்பார். வருடத்தில் ஒருநாள் அவர்
இப்படி காஷ்ட மௌனம் இருப்பது வழக்கம். முப்பது வருடங்களுக்கும் மேலாக
அவர் கடைப்பிடித்து வந்த வழக்கம் இது. ஒருமுறை, அன்றைய பாரதப் பிரதமர்
திருமதி இந்திராகாந்தி வந்த சமயத்தில்கூடப் பெரியவர் தம் மௌன விரதத்தை
விட்டுக் கொடுக்கவில்லை.

அன்றைக்குத் திருவாடனை ஊரிலிருந்து வந்திருந்த பக்தர் கூட்டத்தில்
சங்கரன் என்பவரும் இருந்தார். அவர் பிரிட்டிஷ் ஆட்சியின்போது தேச
விடுதலைக்காகப் போராடி, ஆங்கிலேயர்களிடம் தடியடி பட்டு, இரு கண்
பார்வையையும் இழந்தவர்.

மடத்துச் சிப்பந்தி ஒருவர், வந்திருந்த பக்தர் ஒவ்வொருவரையும்
பெரியவாளுக்கு அறிமுகம் செய்துவைக்க, பெரியவர் மௌனமாகவே ஆசி
வழங்கிக்கொண்டு இருந்தார்.

சங்கரன் முறை வந்தபோது, அவரையும் பெரியவருக்கு அறிமுகம் செய்தார்
மடத்துச் சிப்பந்தி. சங்கரனை பெரியவருக்கு ஏற்கெனவே தெரியும். சங்கரனைப்
பார்த்ததும் பெரியவர் உரத்த குரலில், “என்ன சங்கரா? எப்படி இருக்கே?
சௌக்கியமா? உன் மனைவியும் குழந்தைகளும் நன்னா இருக்காளா? இன்னும்கூட
உன்னால முடிஞ்ச வரைக்கும் தேசத் தொண்டு செஞ்சுண்டு இருக்கே போலிருக்கே?”
என்று கேட்டு, ஆசீர்வதித்தார்.

சங்கரனுக்கு ரொம்ப சந்தோஷம். அதே நேரம், மடத்து சிப்பந்திகளுக்கும்
மற்றவர்களுக்கும் பெரிய ஆச்சரியம்… முப்பது வருஷமாகக் கடைப்பிடித்து
வரும் மௌன விரதத்தை முறித்து விட்டாரே பெரியவர் என்று!

எல்லோரும் பிரசாதம் வாங்கிக்கொண்டு அங்கிருந்து அகன்ற பின்பு,
சிப்பந்திகள் தயங்கித் தயங்கிப் பெரியவரிடம் சென்று, “பெரியவா எதுக்காக
மௌன விரதத்தை முறிச்சுட்டீங்க? எல்லாருக்கும் மௌனமா ஆசி வழங்கினது போலவே
இந்தச் சங்கரனுக்கும் ஆசி வழங்கியிருக்கலாமே? இவர் என்ன அவ்வளவு பெரிய
ஆளா?” என்று கேட்டனர்.

பெரியவர் புன்னகைத்தபடியே, “எல்லாரையும் போல சங்கரனை நடத்தக் கூடாது.
இவனுக்குப் பாவம் கண் தெரியாது. என்னைப் பார்த்து ஆசி வாங்கணும்னு
அவ்வளவு தூரத்திலேர்ந்து வந்திருக்கான். அவனால் என்னைப் பார்க்க
முடியாது. நானும் மௌனமா ஆசீர்வாதம் பண்ணினேன்னா, அது அவனுக்குப் போய்ச்
சேராது. நான் அவனைப் பார்த்தேனா, ஆசீர்வாதம் பண்ணினேனான்னு அவனுக்குத்
தெரியாது. மனசுக்குக் குறையா இருக்கும். வருத்தப்படுவான். இந்தத்
தேசத்துக்காகத் தன் கண்களை தானம் செஞ்சவன் அவன். அவனுக்காக நான் என்
ஆசாரத்தை விட்டுக் கொடுத்தேன்னா ஒண்ணும் குடிமுழுகிப் போயிடாது. அதனால
எதுவும் குறைஞ்சுடாது. அவனோட தியாகத்துக்கு முன்னாடி என்னோட ஆசாரம்
ஒண்ணுமே இல்லே!” என்றார் நிதானமாக.
பெரியவர் வெறும் சாஸ்திர சம்பிரதாயங்களை மட்டும் வறட்டுப் பிடிவாதமாகப்
பிடித்துக்கொண்டு இருப்பவர் அல்ல; அதற்கும் மேலாக மனிதாபிமானத்தை, மனித
நேயத்தையே விரும்பியவர்; இந்த விஷயத்தில் மற்றவர்களுக்குத் தாமே ஒரு
வழிகாட்டியாகவும் திகழ்ந்தார் என்பதற்கு இந்த நிகழ்ச்சி ஓர் உதாரணம்!

காஞ்சிப் பெரியவர் ஜகத்குரு சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகள் பற்றிச்
சமீபத்தில் எனக்குத் தெரிய வந்த சிலிர்ப்பூட்டும் தகவல்களை இங்கே
பகிர்ந்துகொள்ள விரும்புகிறேன். உண்மையிலேயே பெரியவர் பெரியவர்தான்!

நாற்பது ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன், காஞ்சிப் பெரியவரின் ஜன்ம தினத்தன்று அவரைச்
சந்தித்து ஆசி பெறுவதற்காக ‘கலவை’யில் எக்கச்சக்கக் கூட்டம்
திரண்டிருந்தது. அப்போது ஐம்பது வயது மதிக்கத்தக்க ஒரு நபர் தன்
மனைவியோடு, ஸ்வாமிகளின் தரிசனத்துக்காக முன் வரிசையில் காத்திருந்தார்.
அவர் கழுத்திலும், அவரின் மனைவியின் கழுத்திலும் காதிலும் தங்க நகைகள்
ஏராளம் மின்னின. அவர் ஒரு பெரிய தொழிலதிபர் என்பது பார்த்த
மாத்திரத்திலேயே புரிந்தது.

பெரியவர் தம் அறையிலிருந்து வெளிப்பட்டதும், முன்னால் இருந்த அந்தத்
தம்பதி மீதுதான் அவரது பார்வை விழுந்தது. அந்தத் தொழிலதிபரை, “எப்படி
இருக்கே?” என்று விசாரித்தார் பெரியவர்.

அதற்கு அந்தத் தொழிலதிபர், தான் செய்து வரும் தான தருமங்கள் பற்றியும்,
தொடர்ந்தாற்போல் நான்கு நாட்களுக்குத் தன் சொந்தச் செலவில் இலவசமாக ஏழை
பிராமணர்களுக்கு ‘சமஷ்டி உபநயனம்’ செய்து வைத்தது பற்றியும்
சொல்லிவிட்டு, அது தொடர்பான கையேடுகளைப் பெரியவரிடம் காண்பித்தார். அதை
வாங்கிப் பார்வையிட்ட பெரியவர், “சரி, இதுக்கெல்லாம் உனக்கு எவ்வளவு
செலவாச்சு?” என்று கேட்டார். தொழிலதிபர் பெருமிதம் தொனிக்கும் குரலில்,
“சில லட்ச ரூபாய்கள் ஆகியிருக்கும்” என்றார்.

பெரியவர் சிறிது நேரம் மௌனமாக இருந்தார். பின்னர், “அதிருக்கட்டும்…
திருநெல்வேலில தக்ஷிணாமூர்த்தின்னு ஒரு பையன் இருந்தானே, அவன் இப்போ
எப்படி இருக்கான்?” என்று சன்னமான குரலில் கேட்டுவிட்டுப் பதிலை
எதிர்பாராமல் நகர்ந்து போய்விட்டார்.

தொழிலபதிபர் அப்போது அடைந்த அதிர்ச்சிக்கு அளவே இல்லை. தன்னைக்
கட்டுப்படுத்திக்கொள்ள முடியாமல் குமுறிக் குமுறி அழத் தொடங்கிவிட்டார்.
அவர் மனைவி அவரைச் சமாதானப்படுத்த முயன்றும் முடியவில்லை. அதற்குள்
பத்திரிகையாளர்கள் சிலர் அங்கு கூடி, அவர் ஏன் அழுகிறார் என்று
விசாரித்தனர். அதற்கு அவர், “நான் அயோக்கியன்… அயோக்கியன்..!” என்று
திருப்பித் திருப்பிச் சொல்லிக்கொண்டு இருந்தார். அவரை ஒருவாறு
சமாதானப்படுத்தி விஷயத்தைக் கேட்டதற்கு அவர் சொன்னார்…

“எனக்கு ஒரு அக்கா உண்டு. அவள் கணவனை இழந்தவள். அவளுக்கு ஒரு பையன். அவன்
பெயர்தான் தக்ஷிணாமூர்த்தி. அவர்கள் இருவரும் என் வீட்டில்தான் தங்கி
வளர்ந்தார்கள். பின்னர் அக்கா காலமாகிவிட்டாள். அதன்பின் அந்தப் பையனை
என் வீட்டில் வைத்திருக்க விரும்பாமல், வீட்டை விட்டுத் துரத்தி
விட்டேன். அதன்பின் அவன் எங்கே போனான், என்ன ஆனான் என்று எனக்குத்
தெரியாது. ‘ஊருக்கெல்லாம் சமஷ்டி உபநயனம் செய்து வைப்பதாய் பெருமை
பேசுகிறாய். ஆனால், உன் சொந்தச் சகோதரி மகனை மறந்துவிட்டாய். நீ பெரிய
தர்மவானா?’ என்றுதான் பெரியவர் இப்போது என்னை மறைமுகமாகக் கேட்டார்.
உடனடியாக அந்தப் பையனைத் தேடிக் கண்டுபிடித்து, நல்ல முறையில் வளர்த்துப்
பெரியவனாக ஆக்க வேண்டியது என் பொறுப்பு!” என்றபடி தன் மனைவியுடன்
கிளம்பிச் சென்றார் அந்தத் தொழிலதிபர்.

என்று அறிந்த ஒரு அந்தண அடியார், சீமை சென்று திரும்பிய பின், அங்கும்
தமது ஆசாரங்களை வழுவாது பின்பற்றியதை பெரியவாளிடம் தெரிவித்தால் அதை அவர்
ஏற்று கொள்வார் என்று எண்ணினார்.

“அதாவது…..நீ போனது போறாதுன்னு, ஒன்னோட பித்ருக்களையும் சீமைக்கு
வரவழைச்சுட்டியாகĮ 1;கும்?” என்று சிரித்துகொண்டே ஒரு வெட்டு வெட்டினார்

“அபத்தம் வ்ருத்தியாவதற்கு நான் வேற அனுக்ரஹிக்கணுமா?” என்றார் குறும்பாக பெரியவா!

ஒருமுறை திருமதி M S ம் திரு சதாஸிவமும் கச்சேரிக்காக வெளிநாடு
சென்றுவிட்டு திரும்பியதும் பெரியவாளை தர்சனம் பண்ண வந்தார்கள். பூஜை
முடிந்து எல்லாருக்கும் தன் கையாலேயே தீர்த்தம் குடுத்துக்
கொண்டிருந்தார் பெரியவா. அந்த வரிசையில் சதாஸிவத்துக்கு பின்னால் திரு
ரா.கணபதி நின்று கொண்டிருந்தார்.

சாதாரணமாக கடல் கடந்து போய்விட்டு வந்த பிராம்மணனுக்கு பெரியவா தன்
கையால் சந்திரமௌலீஸ்வரர் அபிஷேக தீர்த்தம் தருவது சாஸ்த்ர விரோதமாகையால்
சதாசிவத்துக்கு பெரியவா கையால் தீர்த்தம் கிடைக்காது என்பது ரா.கணபதிக்கு
நிதர்சனமாக தெரிந்திருந்தது. ஆனால், சதாசிவத்துக்கு இந்த விஷயம்
தெரியாதாகையால் ரொம்ப சந்தோஷமாக இவரோடு பேசிக்கொண்டே கியூவில் முன்னேறிக்
கொண்டிருந்தார்.

Repetition of God’s Name is the process by which the dedicatory attitude can be cultivated and grown. When confronted by a calamity, you must attach yourself to this spiritual practice, even more firmly, instead of losing faith in it and getting slack. Do not give up the medicine, when you need it the most! The pity is that when most people face the first disappointment, they lose courage and confidence, and give up their Lord! There are also others, who call out the Names of the Lord, when they are displeased with some happenings, or when they are depressed, in a tone indicative of disgust, uttering it with a sigh or a groan. This is very incorrect. The Name of the Lord must always be pronounced with joy, gratitude, exultation and remembering Him in all splendour. Call Him with Love, call Him with a heart full of sincere yearning.

Education and smartness go hand in hand, whether bookish or practical education. Education is thus the most important factor for the development of any country. Check how the following ten countries produce some of the world’s smartest generations of kids for their nation’s future, as listed by Business Insider

Netherland

Children in Netherland come under the Dutch Law of compulsory education from the ages five to eighteen. Most international schools in Netherland are subsidized by the Dutch Ministry of education. Primary education in Netherlands is mainly based on measure to measure curricula. A lot of responsibility is taken in standardized testing and the results that are achieved.

Denmark

Though preschool is optional, education for nine years is compulsory in Denmark. This compulsory education for children is provided according to national standards. This can take place at home, in a private school or in a public folkeskole and it lead its students to follow an adequate range of subjects. Teachers in Denmark are made to follow a unified system in training of approximately four years.

England

The English Educational system places a lot of importance in the assessment and testing of pupils where they are compulsorily tested at the ages of seven, eleven and fourteen years with a special emphasis on Mathematics and English. The curriculum in schools is set by guidelines provided by the government which mainly aims in raising the standards of its children.

United Kingdom

The education system in the U.S offers its kids a wealth of experiences. Education in England is compulsory and free for all kids aged from five to sixteen. The structure of elementary education in the U.S provides a greater emphasis on group work, guided play and creative activity. The early years of a child’s education focus on numeracy and literacy with no importance given to special subjects.

United States

Teachers of elementary schools in the U.S receive training which emphasizes on human cognition, principles of curriculum development, psychological development and instruction. Schools in the U.S do not have a national curriculum and students are not burdened with preparation for any national examinations.

Russia

Like Singapore, this too is a country that places a lot of concern for education. With education being coordinated by the state, it is made compulsory for all children attend school up to the ninth grade. The curriculum is based on the requirements of the state. In fact, the literacy rate in Russia is almost a hundred percent. Education in Russia plays a very important role in the country’s social status

Finland

This is not surprising, doubt, with Finland having the best education system in the world. With kids starting to attend school at the age of seven and being prevented from the pressures of homework and exams till well into their teens, Finland’s students face the least pressure of academic performance. With a seventy five minute break each day, Finnish students have climbed very close to the top in science, mathematics and reading. The curriculum of Finland’s education system includes nothing but broad guidelines for students.

China

Have you ever wondered how tough schooling in China can be? With school starting at 7.45 and finishing at 4.45 , extra classes lead it to 6.45. With classes from Monday to Friday it can extend to Saturday and Sunday too. Homework keeps most children up till ten. A higher focus is placed to mathematics among schools in China.

Hong Kong

Students in Hong Kong are exposed to a mixture of Chinese and Western cultures. Apart from this they are also exposed to diverse opportunities in education. The education system of Hong Kong has, over the years gone through a lot of reform and focuses more on the importance of early childhood education. This could be a reason why kids in Hong Kong score high in Science, math, reading and literacy.

Singapore

Do you want to know why these kids are so smart? It is because Singapore has an obsession with education. Being one of the world’s toughest meritocracies, Singapore’s education system today has produced the world’s smartest kids. Apart from this, kids in Singapore are made to follow strict discipline and they enter a stream before they are ten years old. This obsession with education is felt everywhere, from Singapore’s two dollar bill that portrays a professor facing his students to headlines in the media which cover students having excelled in education. A reason for this could be that Singapore, being a poor country in the past with no resources and hence no much opportunity for exports , had to rely on its education system ,thanks to which it is one of the ninth richest country in the world today.

This turns celebrations into artificial observances. Christ taught people to love all beings and serve all with compassion. It is only by practising these ideals that one can truly celebrate Jesus Christ’s birthday. The Divinity within should be reflected in your every action. The seat of Truth is in your heart. Worshipping God means loving others with your full heart. You must live in love and lead a life of selfless service based on love. This is the best way to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

To live in “JOY”, make Jesus your first priority, Others next and Your needs, the Last. –
