WONDERFUL PAPER ARCHITECTURE….

US-based artist Christina Lihan combines her skills as a trained architect with her sheer talent of paper modeling to build intricately detailed paper relief sculptures of some of the most famous buildings around the world. Mounted in shadowboxes and ranging from two to six inches deep, her subjects ranges from the Eiffel tower and Taj Mahal to private residences and American cities.

Lihan begins her work by photographing and sketching the site, generally creating scaled charcoal drawings that she then enlarges to the planned size of the finished piece. She lays out the buildings directly over these sketched forms, and cutting out details in place and ultimately assembling all the components into the finished composition. All carving, scoring, cutting, and folding is completed by hand.

Despite her architect background, Lihan admits that she doesn’t construct any pieces with a measured perspective, relying simply on her aesthetic senses.

I often wonder what a labourer feels when he looks at a palatial house he has helped build: he would have had a free run of the property while it was under construction; but once consecrated, the same house becomes totally out of bounds for him.

Mahatma Gandhi used pencils until they wore down to stubs. When someone once asked him why he held on to a pencil until he could barely grip it instead of sharpening a new one, he replied: “To respect the labour that went into the making of the pencil.” The reply sufficiently explains why Gandhi is called the Mahatma.

How often do we pause to think that the articles we buy at will and discard on a whim are actually products of labour? Who knows if the man who crafted your pencil came to the factory that day leaving behind an ailing wife or child at home, and yet you chuck the pencil into the bin before it reaches half its length?

Ditto for things we cannot discard on a whim. For example, the houses we live in. They stand on the blood and sweat of the faceless labourer who himself lives in pathetic conditions. I often wonder what a labourer feels when he looks at a palatial house he has helped build: he would have had a free run of the property while it was under construction; but once consecrated, the same house becomes totally out of bounds for him. Does he feel emotional about it, or does he understand?

The other day, I was having tea, with a colleague, at the roadside chaiwallah outside office, when about half a dozen metro rail workers, wearing helmets and fluorescent jackets, happened to pass by. The colleague, who writes about metro rail, accosted them — this was two days after a crane crashed at the site near Pachaiyappa’s College and killed one worker — to find if metro rail had resumed work which had been suspended after the accident.

Since the workers spoke better Bengali than Hindi, my colleague summoned me. They told me that work had been suspended only at the accident site, while for them — posted on Mount Road — it was life as usual. I began to ask more questions, but suddenly found myself facing a barrage of questions — from them.

“Kothai bari?” — Where’s your house?

“Kon gram?” — Which village?

“Ekhane ki koren?” — What do you do here?

Their worn-out faces were shining with such happiness at having found a fellow Bengali in faraway Chennai that I didn’t have the heart to tell them that I never lived in Bengal. I gave them the name of my native town — Murshidabad — even the name of the village. This only widened their smiles and they began giving the names of their own villages. They wanted to chat on, but I had a deadline to meet.

This meeting must have been their biggest distraction of the day — distraction from the drudgery they are resigned to, that too in a city where no one speaks their language, no one pauses to enquire about their well-being or their families, no one cares for them. They are paid their wages, and their employers expect them to be grateful for that. They make news when they die, and only in death do they enjoy the luxury of travelling in an aircraft (the body of the labourer killed at the Pachaiyappa’s site was flown to Kolkata).

In less than two years, Chennai will have plush trains running underground and travel time within the city will be drastically shortened. Chennai Metro Rail Limited, or CMRL, will be the toast of the town. How many will know that the ‘M’ and ‘L’ in the acronym actually stand for migrant labourers?

. . .” While I was in a Restaurant suddenly a cockroach flew from somewhere and sat on a lady standing a little away from me.
She started screaming out of fear. With panic stricken face and trembling voice, she started jumping, with both her hands desperately trying to get rid of the cockroach. Her reaction was contagious, as everyone in her group got cranky to what was happening. The lady finally managed to push the cockroach to another lady in the group.
Now, it was the turn of the other lady in the group to continue the drama. The waiter rushed forward to their rescue.
In the relay of throwing, the cockroach next fell upon the waiter.
The waiter stood firm, composed himself and observed the behaviour of the cockroach on his shirt.
When he was confident enough, he grabbed and threw it out with his fingers.
Sipping my coffee and watching the amusement, my mind picked up a few thoughts and started wondering:
– Was the cockroach responsible for the ladies’ histrionic behaviour?
– If so, then why was the waiter not disturbed? He handled it near to perfection – without any chaos or drama.
– So, it was not the cockroach, but the inability of those lady guests to handle the disturbance caused by the cockroach that disturbed them..
I also realized even in my case then, it is not the shouting of my father or scolding of my boss that disturbs me, but it’s my own inability to handle the disturbances caused by their shouting that disturb me.
Similarly, it’s not the traffic jams on the road that disturbs me, but my inability to handle the disturbance caused in my mind by the traffic jam that disturbs me.
More than the problem, it’s my own reaction to the problem that hurts me!
The Take-Away:
– The women reacted but the waiter responded.
– We must not react in life; we should always respond.
– Reactions are instinctive; responses are intellectual.

ELEVEN PROVEN WAYS TO GAIN UNSTOPPABLE CONFIDENCE…

SOURCE::::INPUT RECD FROM MY FRIEND….A BOOSTER FOR BUIDINGUP ONE”S SELF CONFIDENCE. PL SHARE WITH YOUNGER GEN TOO.

#1 – KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
Those who know are ultimately much more confident in any arena than those shrouded in ignorance. Use your spare time to read up on the things that interest you, on the things that you are curious about, and build up a solid base of knowledge and critical thinking. The more you know, the more sure of yourself you will be in any situation.

#2 – EXPERIENCE
Uncertainty is the biggest drain on your self-confidence. Succumbing to doubt ensures you will never believe in yourself. The more often you do something, the more certain you become. With certainty comes confidence.

#3 – CARE-FREE ATTITUDE
Try to walk through your day with as easy and care-free of an attitude as you can muster, because someone who is it ease with him or herself is someone who is confident. Build unstoppable confidence by not getting hung up on the petty issues and minor irritations that help wear you down.

#4 – HONEST SELF-ASSESSMENT
Take stock of yourself. Brainstorm for a bit and compose a list of your good qualities and bad, the things you excel at and the things you need to improve upon, and once you have a clear picture of yourself much of the uncertainty that breeds doubt will wash away.

#5 – ANALYZE
Take the time to properly think through every problem, and the confidence in your skills will grow.

#6 – BE THOROUGH
Try to be as complete and thorough at every task you attempt . Completing tasks builds confidence in your ability to always see projects through to their proper conclusion .

#7 – IDENTIFY YOUR LIMITS AND EXCEED THEM
Once you have assessed yourself, make a list of goals you wish to accomplish, and get to work. You now know your true limits, so the only thing left to do is push beyond them and set your sights on new frontiers.

#8 – BE OPEN TO HELPING OTHERS
Don’t close yourself off to friends, acquaintances and coworkers. The more you put yourself out there in business and social situations, the more quickly you will build confidence in your ability to navigate these sometimes tricky waters.

#9 – COMPOSE YOURSELF
Dress well, groom yourself, compose your identity as a person who is well put together, and you will feel confident when meeting new people and doing new things.

#10 – BE DECISIVE
While it is okay to take time to analyze and think situations through, the time comes when you must be decisive and act. Decisive people are confident; not confident people are decisive.

#11 BE COMPLETE
Know yourself fully, wash away your own doubts about yourself, your identity and your capabilities, and present every aspect of yourself in every situation and you will have no reason to doubt your confidence. Become your full, real self.
A lot of confidence building techniques simply do not work. I’ve tried everything out there and studied confident people to see what makes them who they are. Continue reading this article for the top 11 traits you can develop to build strong self-confidence that attracts the people, job, and pleasures of life you want.

HIDDEN MESSAGE IN BRAND LOGOS…..

SOURCE::::: UNKNOWN…INTERESTING INFORMATION ….PL SEE.
Natarajan
Northwest Airlines
cid:4EF11526F3C44CF69C0BB620AE67D4A5@COMPUTER
This simple looking logo actually carries a lot of information. First of all you can see the letters N and W, the first two letters of the brand name. But what most people don’t see is the compass that points to the Northwest, another reference to the brand name.
Amazon

cid:DC6956A537F44791A5614FCD1F840C23@COMPUTER

This logo doesn’t seem to hide much at first sight, but it gives you a little insight in the philosophy behind the brand. First of all, the yellow swoosh looks like a smile: Amazon wants to have the best customer satisfaction. The swoosh also connects the letters a and z, meaning that this store has everything from a to z.

Toblerone

cid:2A84CA13F66A4E6F9C52F3FD502330CA@COMPUTER

Toblerone is a chocolate-company from Bern , Switzerland .   Bern is sometimes called ‘The City Of Bears ‘.  They have incorporated this idea in the Toblerone logo, because if you look closely, you’ll see the silhouette of a bear.

Baskin Robins

cid:55B4021F03BE4E72AEB4B16F0E182F23@COMPUTER

The old logo of Baskin Robbins had the number 31 with an arc above it.  The new logo took this idea to the next level.  The pink parts of the BR still form the number 31, a reference to the 31 flavors.

Sony Vaio

cid:C6EBB069F30741C598619D4F8A272800@COMPUTER

Sony Vaio is a well known brand of laptops.  But did you know that the name Vaio logo also had a hidden meaning?  Well, the first two letters represent the basic analogue signal.  The last two letters look like a 1 and 0, representing the digital signal.

cid:BCE74FF1A24C48A08D0A1780810B46F9@COMPUTER

Do you see any arrows on FedEx’s logo? I saw it a few times at other site saying that there’s an arrow hidden in the FedEx arrow, but I couldn’t find it. I now know where it is, it’s your turn to find. The clue is that the arrow is located in between the alphabet E and X, and the arrow is white, acting as a background.
