Perfection Should Be a Matter of Habit….

The perfectionist sculptor

A gentleman once visited a temple under construction where he saw a sculptor making an idol of God.

Suddenly he noticed a similar idol lying nearby. Surprised, he asked the sculptor, “Do you need two statues of the same idol?”

“No,” said the sculptor without looking up, “We need only one, but the first one got damaged at the last stage.”

The gentleman examined the idol and found no apparent damage. “Where is the damage?” he asked.

“There is a scratch on the nose of the idol.” said the sculptor, still busy with his work.

“Where are you going to install the idol?”

The sculptor replied that it would be installed on a pillar twenty feet high.

“If the idol is that far, who is going to know that there is a scratch on the nose?” the gentleman asked.

The sculptor stopped his work, looked up at the gentleman, smiled and said,

“I know it and God knows it!”

Moral – The desire to excel should be exclusive of the fact whether someone appreciates it or not. Excellence is a drive from inside, not outside. Excel at a task today – not necessarily for someone else to notice but for your own satisfaction.

Message For The Day….Love Towards Lord is Bhakthi…

Every being needs love, every being inhales and exhales Love. Love is the very breath of life; each and every one of you are embodiments of Love. Love knows no fear, and so, love needs no falsehood to support it. It is only fear, that makes people warp the face of truth, to make it pleasant for those whom they fear. Love seeks no reward, love is its own reward. Even a small trace of greed for gain (vishaya vasana) degrades love into a bargain over the counter. Love removes all egoism; the self is transcended, forgotten and superseded when there is love. When such pure Love is directed towards the Lord, it is called Bhakthi (Devotion).

Concentrate and Focus on Positive Thoughts with Faith!!!!

Fantastic example to concentrate and just focus on one positive subject with faith.

Consider this scenario: In a remote forest, a pregnant deer is about to give birth to a baby.

It finds a remote grass field near by a river and slowly goes there thinking it would be safe.
As she moves slowly, she gets labor pain. at the same moment, dark clouds gather around that area and lightning starts a forest fire.

Turning left she sees a hunter who is aiming an arrow from a distance.

As she tries to move towards right, she spots a hungry lion approaching towards her.

Stochastic Probability Theory – Pregnant Deer Scenario:

What can the pregnant deer do .as she is already under labor pain ?

What do you think will happen?

Will the deer survive?

Will it give birth to a fawn?

Will the fawn survive?

OR

Will everything be burnt by the forest fire ?

That particular moment ?

Can the deer go left ? Hunters arrow is pointing

Can she go right ? Hungry male lion approaching

Can she move up ? Forest fire

Can she move down ? Fierce river

Answer: She does nothing. She just focuses on giving birth to a new LIFE.

The sequence of events that happens at that fraction of a second (moment) are as follows:

In a spur of MOMENT a lightning strikes (already it is cloudy ) and blinds the eyes of the Hunter. At that MOMENT, he releases the arrow missing and zipping past the deer. At that MOMENT the arrow hits and injures the lion badly. At that MOMENT, it starts to rain heavily and puts out the forest fire. At that next MOMENT, the deer gives birth to a healthy fawn.

In our life, its our MOMENT of CHOICE and we all have to deal with such negative thoughts from all sides always. Some thoughts are so powerful they overpower us and makes us clueless. Let us not decide anything in a hurry. Lets think of ourselves as the pregnant deer with the ultimate happy ending.

Anything can happen in a MOMENT in this life. If you are religious, superstitious, atheist, agnostic or whatever you can attribute this MOMENT as divine intervention, faith, sudden luck, chance (serendipity), coincidence or a simple dont know’.

We all feel the same.

But, whatever one may call it, I would see the priority of the deer in that given moment was to giving birth to a baby. because LIFE IS PRECIOUS.

Hence, whether you are deer or a human, keep that faith and hope within…

Habits Die Hard !!!

An excerpt from
Habits Die Hard
by Mac Anderson & John J. Murphy

I am your constant companion.
I am your greatest asset or heaviest burden.
I will push you up to success or down to disappointment.
I am at your command.
Half the things you do might just as well be turned over to me.
For I can do them quickly, correctly, and profitably.
I am easily managed; just be firm with me.
Those who are great, I have made great.
Those who are failures, I have made failures.
I am not a machine, though I work with the precision of a
machine and the intelligence of a person.
You can run me for profit, or you can run me for ruin.
Show me how you want it done. Educate me. Train me.
Lead me. Reward me.
And I will then…do it automatically.
I am your servant.
Who am I?

I am your HABIT!!!!!!!!

Here’s the point: Habits—good or bad—are difficult to break. “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence is not an act…it’s a habit.”

Think about it. There is nothing that will shape your destiny more than your habits. Why is that true? Because you are invariably the sum of the choices you will make in your life. And those choices are greatly influenced by your habits…good and bad.

Message for the Day…Victory or Defeat Immaterial ….

Take failures and victory coolly. To do the latter is a very difficult mental exercise. In a running race, the losers, when running neck to neck, prompt the winners to run faster. They inspire the grit, to put in that extra pace which brings victory to the winners. Hence, winners must actually be thankful to the losers for their victory. Those who did not win, I ask you not to lose your self-confidence. Never attach too much value to victory and defeat. All of you are born for far greater things than winning mundane races and competitions. Your destiny does not depend upon a game or an examination – it depends more upon your character, your will power and the grace of God.

Message For The Day…. Set Apart Some Time for Yourself….

If for the whole day you are engaged in only gathering information, you do not take out time for yourself to think and reflect. A few quiet moments are sources for creativity. Some time during the day, sit for a few minutes, get into the cave of your heart, eyes closed, and kick the world away like a ball. But, during the day be 100 per cent attached to the work. Eventually, you will be able to be both attached and detached. This is the skill of living, the art of living.
Renunciation refills your energy. Creativity cannot happen only just through efforts. There is a beautiful story about Chhatrapati Shivaji. At one time Shivaji became so frustrated about ruling his kingdom that he went to his guru Samarth Ramdas and told him that he is fed up and that he just wants to renounce everything. Ramdas told him that he can renounce everything. Shivaji became so happy and relaxed at the very thought. Then Ramdas told him: “Now I am the king and you are my servant. Will you do whatever I ask you to do?” Shivaji replied: “For you I am ready to do anything.”Ramdas said: “Very good. Will you run this country for me?” Shivaji replied: “Yes, I will run the country for you!” Total renunciation had brought zeal and enthusiasm in him. Creativity springs up when you are relaxed. You have to renounce all work you have done the whole day, only then can you rest in the night.
Though many times pain, struggle and frustration have brought out creativity in some people, these are not the only reasons for a person to be creative. Millions of people in the world are struggling or frustrated, but they are not creative. So, taking out some time for yourself improves the quality of your life..

Class 7 Student…A Tech Whiz…

S. Arjun

S. Arjun

School boy S. Arjun whose school bus locator app has won him the MIT App Inventor award

By inventing a school bus locator app (Ez School Bus Locator), S. Arjun, a class VII student of Velammal Vidyashram, Surapet, has done his school and family proud. Winner of the MIT App Inventor contest in the K-8 division, Arjun’s app was considered “one of the most creative and well thought out app of any age group.”

Arjun began dabbling with technology at the age of two. “Back then, I had been using programming software meant for kids. Later on, when I wanted to make more powerful applications, I started looking out for other tools. After mastering Logo and Scratch sometime back, I tried exploring Visual Basic on my own and started on a few basic applications,” he says.

His father suggested MIT App Inventor as a place to learn programming when he stumbled upon the contest. “It was two weeks before the submission date and I put in extra effort to finish it in time to submit. My parents helped me in the technical and design aspects of creating the app,” he adds, “I decided on a school bus locator because my parents were so worried when my school bus was late one day. This disturbed me and I wanted to find a solution that would make things easier for them. I hope to come up with more solutions to help keep our world safe.”

The Ez School Bus Locator is a two-app solution that uses a bar code scanning to check in and out from the bus and GPS to track the vehicle. There are even SMS alerts to keep parents informed. “This will help parents track their children on bus rides and it supports both Android phones and those that have no Internet facility,” Arjun explains.

He has already approached his school, which has agreed to run it as a pilot programme. “I had presented this app to my school management and they have been very supportive. They have agreed to run it this academic year and then, implement it as a full-fledged service the next academic year onwards.”

Ez School Bus Locator was also featured as the Mashup of the Day on Programmable Web, the world’s largest API and Mashup directory. “My first priority is to make this app available on the Google Play Store. I’m also getting ready for the pilot implementation in school. I also just started working on my dream project — starting my own company (on a small scale right now),” Arjun adds.

With his interests spanning robotics, electronics and badminton, Arjun dreams of becoming a Robotics engineer someday. “I practice robotics programming using my robotics kit when I find time.”

Message For The Day…Effective Communication Improves Your Life….

Learning to communicate effectively with everyone is a skill worth possessing. Most of the time you find that you are out of place. Communicating without prejudice is vital for success. If you are faced with someone who knows more than you, be like a child and keep your ears and eyes open for learning. If you are faced with someone who knows less than you, be humble and strive to make them as good as or better than you. Play with a small child as you played when you were a child. Talk with an elderly person remembering that one day you will be like that. Communicate with a person of your age group like you are his/her best friend.
This world is varied beyond our imagination, and there’s always something to share, learn and teach. When you are centered, you become a powerful communicator. And when your communication improves, your life improves.

Message For The Day….Have Determination and March on …

Be eager and earnest to know more and more about the art of unperturbed happy living. One can advance only step by step and there is the danger of slipping down two steps when you climb one. What matters is the determination to climb, the resistance with which the tendency to slide is met, the yearning to rise, to progress, to conquer the lower impulses and instincts. If you have that, the hidden spring of power will surge up within you; the Grace of the Lord will smoothen your path. Keep the ideal before you; march on. Only those with ideals are respected and remembered with gratitude, for posterity.

Spiritual Practice (Sadhana) is constantly cultivating good thoughts and undertaking good deeds. – Baba
