செகந்தராபாதில் பெரியவா முகாம்.

அப்போது ரயில்வேயில் மூத்த அதிகாரிகள் சிலபேர் பெரியவாளை தர்சனம் பண்ண வந்தனர். அவர்களுக்கு ஒரு பெரிய குறை. அது என்னவென்றால்……….

“பெரியவாளோட அனுக்ரகத்தால எங்களோட கர்மானுஷ்டானங்களை எல்லாம் கூடியவரைக்கும் விடாமப் பண்ணிண்டு இருக்கோம். ஆனா, இந்த ஊர்ல, பூஜை, ஸ்ராத்தம், தர்ப்பணம் இதெல்லாத்தையும் சரியாப் பண்ணிவெக்க, வேதம் படிச்ச சாஸ்த்ரிகள் இல்லே! ஒரே ஒர்த்தர்தான் இருந்தார். அவருக்கும் பண்ணி வெக்கும்போது அவர் சொல்ற மந்த்ரங்களுக்கு அவருக்கே அர்த்தம் தெரியலை. அர்த்தம் தெரியாம கர்மாக்களை பண்றதை, எங்காத்து பிள்ளைகள் ஏத்துக்க மாட்டேங்கறா. இந்தக் காலத்து பசங்களாச்சே! அதான்… பெரியவா தயவுபண்ணி மடத்துலேர்ந்து யாராவது வேதம் படிச்ச சாஸ்த்ரிகளா பாத்து இந்த ஊருக்கு அனுப்பிச்சுக் குடுக்கணும்” என்று ப்ரார் த்தனை பண்ணினார்கள்.

“ஒங்காத்து பிள்ளைகள் சொல்றதுலேயும் ஞாயம் இருக்கு……….” என்று அவர் ஆரம்பித்தபோது, ஸ்ரீமடத்துக்கான அன்றைய தபால்களை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு ஒரு postman வந்தார். பெரியவா மேலாக சில கடிதங்களைப் படித்துவிட்டு, ஒரு லெட்டரை எடுத்தார். அதில் PIN என்று இருந்த இடத்தை அந்த அதிகாரிகளுக்கு சுட்டிக் காட்டி, “PIN ..ன்னு போட்டிருக்கே…..அதோட அர்த்தம் தெரியுமா?”

ரொம்ப சாதாரண கேள்விதான். ஆனால் அந்த அதிகாரிகளுக்கு தெரியவில்லை. கொண்டுவந்த தபால்காரருக்கும் தெரியவில்லை.

“POSTAL INDEX NUMBER ” என்று தானே அதற்கு விளக்கமும் குடுத்தார்.

சிரித்துக்கொண்டே அந்த அதிகாரிகளைப் பார்த்து ” நீங்கள்ளாம் நெறைய படிச்சு பெரிய உத்தியோகம் பாக்கறவா. ஆனா, சாதாரண தபால்ல வர PIN க்கு ஒங்களுக்கு அர்த்தம் தெரியலே. அவ்வளவு ஏன்? PINCODE ன்னு எதையோ எழுதின அந்த ஆஸாமிக்கே கூட அதோட அர்த்தம் தெரியாம இருக்கலாம். ஆனா, PINCODE ன்னு போட்டிருக்கற எடத்ல சரியான நம்பரை எழுதிட்டா அது சரியா போய்சேர வேண்டிய எடத்துக்கு போறா மாதிரி, பண்ணி வெக்கற வாத்யாருக்கு மந்த்ரங்களோட அர்த்தம் தெரியாட்டாலும், பண்ணிக்கற ஒங்களுக்கெல்லாம் அர்த்தம் புரியாட்டாலும், எந்த கர்மாவுக்கு எந்த மந்த்ரம் சொல்லணுமோ, அதை செரியா சொன்னா, அதுக்குண்டான பலனை அது குடுக்கும்! அதுல ஒங்களுக்கு எந்த விதமான சந்தேஹமும் வேணாம்”.

“அதுனால, இப்போ இருக்கற ப்ரோஹிதரை நிறுத்தாம, நீங்க பண்ண வேண்டிய கர்மாக்களை ஸ்ரத்தையோட பண்ணிண்டு வாங்கோ! ஒரு கொறைவும் வராது!” கையைத் தூக்கி ஆசிர்வதித்தார்”.

அதிகாரிகள் விக்கித்துப் போனார்கள்! ஒரு சாதாரண, அன்றாடம் கவனத்தில் கூட வராத PIN னை வைத்தே, எப்பேர்பட்ட பெரிய சந்தேஹத்தை போக்கிவிட்டார்!

Message For The Day….Aspire To Become A Flute in The Hands of God!!!!

Once, I asked a few people as to what they would like to be in the hands of the Lord. Some said the lotus, some the shankha (conch) and some the chakra (discus), but no one mentioned the murali (flute). I would advise you to aspire to become the flute, for then the Lord Himself will come to you and pick you up. Achieve the hollowness of heart by making it completely egoless. He will then breathe through you and create captivating music for all Creation to enjoy. Be straight, without any will of your own and merge your will in the Will of God. Inhale only the breath of God. That is Divine Life, the goal you must all achieve.

Message For The Day….Call Upon God in Your Own Heart !!!!

You need not even read the Gita or the Upanishads. You will hear a Gita specially designed for you if you call upon the Lord in your own heart. He is there, installed as your own Charioteer. Ask Him and He will answer. Have the Form of the Lord before you when you sit quietly in a place for meditation and have His Name – that is, any Name when you do japam (repetition of the divine Name). If you do japam, without a Form before you, who is to give the answer? You cannot be talking all the time to yourself. The Form of the Lord you are calling will hear and respond to you. All agitations must cease one day, is it not? Meditation of the Form of the Lord and repetition of His Name are the only means for your mental agitations to cease.

Let The Biscuits Get Burnt….But Not Your Relationship !!!

– Biscuits

When I was a kid, my mom liked to make breakfast, food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work.

On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! Yet all my dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don’t remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that ugly burned biscuit. He ate every bite of that thing… never made a fuss nor uttered a word about it!

When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I’ll never forget what he
said: “Honey, I love burned biscuits every now and then.”

Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, “Your Momma put in a hard day at work today and she’s real tired. And besides – a little burned biscuit never hurt anyone!”

As I’ve grown older, I’ve thought about that many times. Life is full of imperfect things and imperfect people. I’m not the best at anything, and I forget birthdays and anniversaries just like everyone else. But what I’ve learned over the years is that learning to accept each other’s faults, and choosing to celebrate each other’s differences, is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.

And that’s my prayer for you today…that you will learn to take the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and lay them at the feet of God.

Because in the end, He’s the only One who will be able to give you a relationship where a burnt biscuit isn’t a deal-breaker! We could extend this to any relationship. In fact, understanding is the base of any relationship, be it a husband-wife or parent-child or friendship! “Don’t put the key to your happiness in someone else’s pocket – keep it in your own.” So, please pass me a biscuit, and yes, the burned one will do just fine.

பாலக்காடு மணி ஐயர் வாழ்வில் நடந்த சம்பவம்

கர்நாடக இசை மேதை பாலக்காடு மணி ஐயர் வாழ்வில் சுமார் 40 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் நிகழ்ந்த சம்பவம் இது.

பாலக்காட்டில் தனது வீட்டில் அமர்ந்து மிருதங்கங்களை வாசித்துப் பார்த்தார் மணி ஐயர். அவற்றில் சிலவற்றுக்குத் தோல் மாற்ற வேண்டியிருந்தது. எனவே கடைவீதிக்குச் சென்றார்.
கடைக்காரர் அவரிடம் “தற்சமயம் தோல் ஸ்டாக்கில் இல்லை. அடிமாடுகள் வந்துள்ளன. தோலை உரித்துப் பதப்படுத்தி ஒரு வாரத்தில் தருகிறேன்” என்றார்.

மிருதங்க இசைக்குத் தோல் தேவைதான். இருந்தாலும் இந்த முறை மணி ஐயரின் மனம் ஏனோ வேதனைப்பட்டது. ”ஒரு ஜீவனை ஹிம்சைப் படுத்தி இந்தத் தொழிலைத் தொடரத்தான் வேண்டுமா?” என்கிற சஞ்சலமான மனதுடன் வீடு திரும்பினார்.

அன்று இரவு அவருக்குச் சாப்பிடப் பிடிக்கவில்லை. உண்ணாமலே படுத்து விட்டார். மூன்று மாத காலத்திற்கு கச்சேரிகளை அவர் ஒப்புக் கொண்டிருந்தார். எனவே அவற்றை மட்டும் முடித்துக் கொடுத்துவிட்டு மேற்கொண்டு புதுக் கச்சேரிகளை ஒப்புக் கொள்ளாமல் தவிர்ப்பது என்று தீர்மானித்தார்.

ஓரிரு நாட்களுக்குப் பின் கச்சேரி ஒன்றுக்காக சென்னை வந்த மணி ஐயர் மஹாபெரியவரைத் தரிசிக்கக் காஞ்சி ஸ்ரீமடத்திற்குச் சென்றார். அப்போது மஹாபெரியவர் அங்கு இல்லை. காஞ்சியில் இருந்து 50 கி.மீ.தொலைவில் ஒரு கிராமத்தில் முகாமிட்டிருப்பதா& #2965; சொன்னார்கள். ”மஹா பெரியவாளை எப்படியும் பார்த்து விடுவது” என்று தீர்மானித்த மணி ஐயர், அந்தக் கிராமத்தை அடைந்த போது மாலை மணி ஐந்து.

சந்திப்பும் நிகழ்ந்தது.

மஹா பெரியவர், “மணி, நீ இன்று இரவு தங்கு…. நாளை காலை போகலாம். உன் தனி ஆவர்த்தனம் கேட்டு ரொம்ப நாளாச்சு!” என்று கூறிப் பூஜைக்குச் சென்றார்.

பூஜை முடிந்து எல்லோருக்கும் ப்ரசாதம் வழங்கினார்கள். இரவு எட்டு மணிக்கு மடத்து சிஷ்யர் ஒருவர் மணி ஐயரிடம் வந்து, “ பெரியவா வந்து பார்க்கச் சொன்னார்!” என்றார்.

மணி ஐயர் மஹா பெரியவருடைய குடிசைக்குச் சென்றார். ஒரு ஹரிக்கேன் விளக்கு மட்டும் இருந்தது. சிஷ்யர் அதைத் தூண்டி விட்டார். மஹா பெரியவா, ”என்ன மணி, உடம்பு அசௌகரியமோ? ஏன் வாட்டமா இருக்கே? கவலையா?” என்று அன்புடன் வினவினார்.

மணி ஐயர் கண்கள் கலங்க தன் வேதனையை விவரித்தார். அந்தப் பேச்சின் முடிவாக, ”இதுவரை நடந்தது போதும் பெரியவா. இனி ஜீவஹிம்சை செய்து அதன் மூலம் கச்சேரி செய்யப் போவதில்லை. அதனால் வரும் வருமானம் ஒரு சல்லிக்காசு கூட எனக்கு வேண்டாம்” என்றார் குரலில் உறுதியாக.

மௌனமாகக் கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருந& #3021;த மஹா பெரியவா, ”மணி, நீ சிவன் கோவில்ல நந்திகேஸ்வரரை தரிசனம் செஞ்சிருக்கியோ?” என்று கேட்டார்.

மணி ஐயர் “ஆமாம்” என்று தலையசைத்தார்.

”அவரது வேலை மத்தளம் (மிருதங்கம்) வாசிப்பது. நீயோ கலியுக நந்தி. இனிமேல் நீ மிருதங்கம் வாசிக்காமல் இருந்தால் தான் மகா பாவம். உனக்கு ஒரு பாவமும் வராது. மனசைப் போட்டு அலட்டிக் கொள்ளாதே. போய் வேலையைப் பார். இன்னிக்கு ரொம்ப நாழி ஆயிடுத்து. படுத்துத் தூங்கு. நாளைக்குப் பிரசாதம் வாங்கிண்டு கிளம்பு. உன்னுடைய தனி ஆவர்த்தனத்தைக் கேக்கணும்னு ஆசையா இருக்கு. நாளைக்கு ஒரு அரை மணி நேரம் வாசிச்சுட்டுக் கிளம்பலாம்!” என்று கூறி அனுப்பினார்.

மறு நாள் பூஜைக்குப் பிறகு கச்சேரி செய்து விட்டு மஹா பெரியவரிடம் பிரசாதமும் பெற்றுக் கொண்டு மனநிறைவுடன் வீடு திரும்பினார் மணி ஐயர்.

இந்த அரிய தகவலைக் கூறியவர் மணி ஐயரின் மருமகன் பதஞ்சலி!

In Kanchipuram Sivasthanam, the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Advaita Sabha was held. A number ofmaha vidvAns (great pundits) had gathered. NooraNi Sri Ananta Krishna SastrigaL was also there. One of the Udupi ParyayapIThAdhipatis (pontiff) was on hisvijayam(tour) to Kanchi. NooraNi Sri Ananta Krishna SastrigaL supplicated to PeriyavaaL to bring the Udipi pontiff to the Advaita Sabha. Sri PeriyavaaL asked Sri Ananta Krishna SastrigaL himself to bring the pointiff to the Sabha.

Udupi SwamigaL visited the Sabha with happiness. Everyone asked him to give ananugraha bhASaNa(holy lecture). So he gave a longvicAram(inquiry) and spoke that the Advaita Shastra had its own shortcomings. He elaborated on many things in his talk of nearly an hour. Looking at the Pandits, he asked them to reply to the points he raised in his lecture. But then since he talked fast and long, thevidvAns asked him to repeat his lecture. To that Udupi SwamigaL said that if Sri PeriyavaaL directed him to repeat his lecture he would do so. Sri PeriyavaaL at once said with amandahAsam(gentle laugh), “You don’t have to repeat it. I shall do theanuvAdam” and did hisanuvAdamlike a tape recorder, without leaving anaMsam(part) of what Udupi SwamigaL had said. All themaha vidvAns, including the Udupi SwamigaL were wonder-struck.

Once when Sri PeriyavaaL did his vijayam to Chennai, thousands of people had gathered to have darshan of the puja performed by Sri PeriyavaaL. A woman had come with her child. Someone had stolen the gold chain that was on the child’s neck. Whatever efforts the woman took to locate it, she couldn’t succeed; she was very unhappy. After the puja was over and thetIrthawas given, people queued up to receive the holy water. The woman who lost the chain came before the sage in her turn. A woman who stood before her extended her hand to receive the holy water. Sri Periyavaa looked at that woman and said, “You first give back the chain you have kept hidden in your waist to the woman behind you. Only then thirtham for you.” The woman who stole the chain gave it back as directed and the ignominy she suffered on account of her theft was known only to a few people around her. She had the mental peace that Sri Periyavaa saved her from an ugly situation. The woman who lost the chain was also happy. They both returned to their homes in happiness.

Once when Sri Periyavaa was staying in Sivasthanam, Kanchipuram, a youth who had obtained the doctor degree for his researches in botony sought his darshan. Periyavaa asked him, “What is the reason for the namevetrilai(betel leaf), you know?” When he said that he did know it, Periyavaa explained, “vetrilaiis a creeper. Any creeper would have flowers that ripe into fruits. The ripening into fruit may not be there, but at least the flower will be there. There is no creeper that never blossoms. But then in this creepr there would be no flowers or fruits. Only the leaves will be there. Since this creeper remains a plant with mere leaves it got the namevetrilai(mere leaf).”

The youth who had taken the doctor degree realized that it should really be given to PeriyavaaL.

Sri PeriyavargaL had apAra jnAnam(limitless knowledge) in Silpa Shastras. He would teach facts that the sculptors themselves would not know. In the Agama Shastras, they have divided rocks into three kinds: male, female, neither male or female. Some statues of gods should be made only of male rocks, some of female and some ofnapuMsa(genderless) rocks. The sculptors would know the nature of the rocks by a cursory go at them with their chisel. But Sri PeriyavargaL would tell the nature of a rock just by looking at it.

In addition, there could be a toad inside the rock. Such rocks should not be used for sculpting god statues. Once asthapati(sculptor) showed a rock to Sri PeriyavaaL, who said forthwith, “This rock has a toad inside it.” The sculptor argued that he tested and decided that there was no toad inside, so he brought the rock.

Periyavaa asked him to break the rock. When it was done, a toad came out jumping from inside the rock. The sculptor was surprised. Thus the knowledge Sri PeriyavaaL had in Silpa Shastras is rare for even those who worked with it.

Message For The Day…Sorrow Disappears, When Ego Goes …..

Every struggle to realize the Unity behind all the multiplicity is a step on the path of Divine Life. You have to churn the milk if you wish to separate and identify the butter that is present within it. So too, carry on with life and purify your thoughts and action in order to get unshakeable faith. Divine Life does not admit the slightest dross in character or delusion in the intellect. People dedicated to divine life must emphasize this by precept and practice. Wipe out the root cause of anxiety, fear and ignorance, if any, within you. Then your true personality will shine forth. Anxiety is removed by faith in the Lord, the faith that tells you whatever happens is for the best and that the Lord’s will be done. Sorrow springs from egoism, the feeling that you do not deserve to be treated so badly, that you are left helpless. Sorrow disappears when egoism goes!
