A Thrilling Experience of A Doctor with Periavaa….

A very senior general surgeon from Karnataka, well-known for his services to poor patients recounted this incident to DR.S.Kalyanaraman, chennai…… He said he was traveling one evening with his wife and children by car on a rather lonely highway. Suddenly there was a torrential rain and visibility became quite poor. He was able to proceed only very slowly and by about 11 p.m. he reached a small village. There was a bright light in one of the houses on the road and some persons were standing on the road outside the open door. The Surgeon stopped the car and got out to enquire whether there was any nearby hotel or guest house where he could stay overnight. The person asked him whether he was a doctor and whether he had come with his family. He replied “Yes”. The people said we have been waiting for you for more than two hours. Food is ready. Please come in, have your dinner and take rest. He was very surprised and asked whether any of them were his former patients and had recognized him. They said “please come and have food first. Let the children take rest. We will answer all your questions after dinner”.

Half an hour later when everyone had taken their dinner, they told him, “We heard earlier in the day that Maha Periyaval was going to a nearby town through this village to his next camp. We had prepared food for Him and the Mutt people. However, when He came, we requested Him to stop here, take rest and then proceed. He said that He had to reach the town on time before the rains started. However He added that, late at night a doctor with his family would be coming by car and that they would be tired and would need rest. He told us to look after these guests. So we have been waiting for you more than two hours wondering when you would come”.

This doctor had never seen Maha Periyaval earlier. After this event he visited the Mutt and became a great devotee.

Maha Periyaval was suffering from some pain at the back of His neck. Dr. Badrinath who had just operated on His Holiness for cataract suggested that I should examine Maha Periyaval for suspected spondylosis and suggest treatment. The camp was at Sholapur at that time and one afternoon we arrived there. After lunch I was taken to Maha Periyaval’s presence. I was told that He was suffering from high fever in addition to His earlier complaint of neck pain. He asked me to go ahead with the examination.

I performed Shashtanga Namaskaram to Him first. He asked me why I was performing namaskaram. I replied “Before I examine every patient in my clinic. I perform namaskaram mentally to you and pray to you that the patient should be cured. When you are yourself my patient now, to whom can I pray except to you and I should be successful in my treatment? His Holiness smiled and said “Go ahead”.

After completing the examination I found that His temperature was 105 degree. I hesitatingly told Him, “Periyaval is having high fever. Will it be possible to avoid cold water bath for a day or two till the fever settles down? His Holiness replied “How can that be done? Yesterday was Chandra grahanam and last night I performed grahana snanam (bath at the time of eclipse) with the same fever.

I said, “Iswara, how can Periyaval’s physical system stand such strain?”

Maha Periyaval asked me “Do you know how grahana snanam is performed?”

I said I did not know.

His Holiness: “You have to hold your nostrils and take a dip in the river till the whole head is fully immersed in the water.

I was aghast that His Holiness had done this.

Then he added “Not once, but 108 times!”

I nearly fainted! I said “What treatment can I give you?”

“Only Lord Siva, whose incarnation you are, is protecting your body in spite of 108 head baths in the river with a body temperature of 105 degree. What can a poor mortal like me do except to pray to Lord Siva to keep you in good health for our sake for many many more years to come?”

Once, when I was asked to see Maha Periyaval for His neck pain, I diagnosed cervical spondylosis and suggested that He do some simple exercises for the same. The exercises consisted of normal movements of the neck such as looking down, looking up, and turning to the right, turning to the left, bending to the right and bending to the left, in all six normal movements. I requested Him to do this several times a day. When I went to Sri Mattam for darshanam on the next occasion I asked Maha Periyaval whether He was doing the neck exercises regularly.

His Holiness: I was doing the neck exercises regularly for a few days and then stopped doing them.

I asked: why?

Maha Periyaval remarked with a mischievous smile,

“You asked me to do them several times a day. I started doing them even when I was talking to visitors. Many bhakthas thought this was a new form of yoga-abhyasam which I practicing. So they started moving their necks exactly as I was doing. I thought even those who had no neck pain may get it due to the violent movement! So I stopped doing them!”.

Periavaa”s Question and His Yardstick for a Decision….

The very first time I heard of Periyaval was in 1943, when I was in the sixth standard. One of my friends stopped our game in the evening because he was going with his uncle to have darshan of “Swamigal” who was camping at Thiruvanaikoil. A few days later my father the late Dr. V.Subramaniam known all over Tiruchirapalli and especially in the Mattam as he was a general practitioner and dental surgeon took my mother, sister and me to have darshanam too. It was late evening and he performed a pada poja in the presence of His Holiness in a small hut in the garden of the Thiruvanaikoil Mattam. I still remember the serene appearance and blissful smile of Maha Periyaval as he sat through the pada pooja for nearly half an hour. Sixty years have passed and when I close my eyes I can recall the scene to my mind.

One of my most vivid memories which changed the entire course of my life was the granting of permission by Maha Periyaval for me to go abroad. It was around April or May 1960. The first batches of students for the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarships were to be selected. The scholarship scheme was a unique decision from the Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ Conference at Colombo a few weeks earlier.

I appeared for the interview at Delhi and a few days later I received intimation of being selected for neurosurgical training at Edinburgh for two years. I informed my father who was at Trichy. In those days I knew that Maha Periyaval did not favour the idea of young boys from orthodox families going abroad for a long period of time. My father told me that I could go abroad only if Maha Periyaval gave me permission. So all of us went to Sri Mattam to seek Maha Periyaval’s blessings. The conversation went like this approximately.

My father: Raman has got a foreign scholarship to go to Scotland for training in brain surgery. He desires to go for the same.

His Holiness: What is the use of that?

My father: Now he has only got a MS degree General Surgery. If he goes abroad and qualifies in neuro surgery he can earn a lot of money.

His Holiness: What is the use of his going?

My father: He can go to England and get FRCS degree and also do research and get a PhD degree.

His Holiness: It is not that. What is the use to the public because of his going?

Then only my father understood His Holiness’s question and ideas.

He replied: Now there is only Dr. Ramamurthi who is doing brain operations. Many patients are not able to get treatment because there is only one person. Very many patients cannot afford to go abroad to get treatment. If Raman goes abroad and trains in neurosurgery and returns, he can operate on many patients. What is even more important is that he can train many doctors in India who can then in turn do brain operations for Indian patients So it will be of great benefit to the public.

His Holiness: If so, let him go.

This is a typical example of how His Holiness judged a certain situation. What mattered was not whether a Brahmin boy would be going abroad leaving his nityakarmanushtanam or a devotee would be able to get high qualifications or a devotee would be able to earn more money.

The real point at the heart of the issue was whether the common man in India would be benefited or not. That was the yardstick by which a decision was taken.

காஞ்சி மஹா பெரியவர் மீது மிகுந்த பக்தி கொண்டிருந்தனர் அந்த தம்பதியினர். காஞ்சி மஹானை வணங்காமல் எந்த செயலையும் ஆரம்பிக்க மாட்டார்கள். அந்த அளவுக்கு அவர் மீது அவர்களுக்கு பக்தி.

இந்நிலையில் ஒரு நாள், அந்த பெண்மனி கர்ப்பிணி ஆனாள். குழந்தை எந்த பிரச்சினையும் இன்றி ஆரோக்கியமாக பிறக்க வேண்டும் என்று அவர்கள் மஹானை வேண்டாத நாளே இல்லை.

ஒரு நாள் இரவில் நன்றாக தூங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்த கர்ப்பிணிப் பெண்ணின் கனவில் நரசிம்மர் தோன்றி, பிறக்கப்போகும் குழந்தைக்கு தனது பெயரை சூட்டுமாறு உத்தரவிட்டார்.

ஆனால், கர்ப்பிணிப் பெண்ணோ, ‘எங்களுக்கு எல்லாமே காஞ்சி பெரியவர்தான். அவர் எப்படிச் சொல்கிறாரோ அதைத்தான் செய்வோம்’ என்று தெய்வத்திடமே வாதிட்டாள் கனவில்.!

நரசிம்மரும் அந்த பெண்ணை அவளது வழிக்கு விடவில்லை. ‘எனது பெயரைத்தான் வைக்க வேண்டும்’ என்று அவரும் உறுதியாக இருந்தார்.

அப்போதே கனவும் கலைந்து விட்டது. விழித்த கர்ப்பிணிப் பெண்ணுக்கு இறைவன் இட்ட உத்தரவை எப்படி நிறைவேற்றுவது என்ற பயம் ஏற்பட்டது. இருந்தாலும், தான் கண்ட கனவு பற்றி கணவரிடம் கூறினாள்.

தொடர்ந்து, இருவரும் காஞ்சி மஹானை கேட்ட பிறகு, அது பற்றி முடிவெடுக்கலாம் என்று தீர்மானித்தனர்.

அடுத்த மாதமே அவர்களுக்கு அழகான ஆண் குழந்தை பிறந்தது. குழந்தைக்கு என்ன பெயர் சூட்டலாம் என்பதை உறுதி செய்ய இருவரும் குழந்தையுடன் காஞ்சி மஹா பெரியவரை பார்க்கச் சென்றனர்.

மஹான் காலடியில் குழந்தையை கிடத்தியவர்கள், மஹான் என்ன சொல்லப் போகிறார் என்பதை கேட்கும் பொருட்டு அமைதியாக நின்றனர்.

கை, காலை உதைத்து சிரித்து விளையாடிக் கொண்டிருந்த அந்த ஆண் குழந்தையைப் பார்த்த மஹா பெரியவர், “பொதுவாக ஒரு குழந்தை பிறந்த பிறகு உரிய சடங்குகள் செய்வார்கள். அதன் பிறகுதான் பெயர் சூட்டுவார்கள். ஆனால், இவன் வயிற்றில் இருக்கும்போதே பெயரை வைத்துக் கொண்டு பிறந்திருக்கிறான். அப்படித்தானே நரசிம்மா ?” என்று கேட்க, குழந்தையின் பெற்றோர் அதிசயித்துப் போய் நின்றனர்.

தாங்கள் கண்ட கனவு பற்றி மஹா பெரியவரிடம் எதுவும் சொல்லாத நிலையில், அவரே கனவில் வந்த நரசிம்மர் கூறியபடி குழந்தையை ‘நரசிம்மா’’ என்று அழைத்ததால் இன்ப அதிர்ச்சிக்கு ஆளாகி, அப்படியே சாஷ்டாங்கமாக மஹா பெரியவரின் காலில் விழுந்தனர்.

An episode as narrated by Dr.S.Kalyanaraman.Neuro Surgeon of Chennai……

With namaskarams to His Holy Feet I wish to record some interesting events that took place during the darshan of His Holiness Sri Sri Chandrasekara Saraswathi Swamigal.

I was a neighbour of “Pradosam Venkatarama Iyer” and because of his association I was drawn towards Maha Periyaval and from that moment the joy and happiness my family members and I have received is beyond words.

Regular darshan and interaction between 1978 and 1984 has made me gain knowledge about many religious activities. I am able to chant many verses and also assist my gurukul at Selaiyur in homas. This is all due to kindness and blessings I have got from Maha Periyaval.

I would like to share some events.

Sri Pradosam Venkatarama Iyer celebrated the Platinum Jubilee Peetarohanam of Maha Periyaval in a very religious manner and a procession was arranged with the Periaval’s photo in a well decorated chariot. The elephant and horse were sent from Mahalakshmi temple at Adyar by Sri Mukkur Srinivasachari. The procession went round “Gangadeeswarar temple” in Egmore and returned.

“Pradosam Uncle” gave me the photo album taken during the occasion and asked me to show it to Maha Periaval who was on his padayatra. As I was fortunate I took it and showed to Maha Periyaval during my darshan. After going through all the photos He returned the album to me and asked me whether the elephant had “Namam” and I replied to His Holiness that Namam was there. He further asked me whether the horse had Namam. I told him that I did not remember this. He asked me to check the album and reply. To everyone’s surprise the horse too had Namam. This revealed the keenness of His Holiness even while glancing through a photo album.

Everyone is aware that devotees throng to have Periyaval’s darshan wherever He stayed. One lady devotee from Mumbai was very regular to have His darshan. On one occasion when the lady devotee came to have His darshan His Holiness called her and asked the following questions.

His Holiness: What is the distance of your husband’s office from your house?

Lady devotee: It is about two Kilometers.

His Holiness:Do you have a telephone in your house?

Lady devotee: No, but my neighbour has a phone and he will call us in case of any emergency.

His Holiness:Then you should at once go back to Mumbai.

Lady devotee: I have come here with an idea of staying 3 or 4 days to have your darshan.

His Holiness: Now you had my darshan. So please go back to your place.

With much hesitation the lady devotee returned home.

After a period of six months the lady devotee came once again to have His darshan and His Holiness enquired about the health condition of the lady’s husband.

Actually what happened is this – the husband of the lady devotee had an accident in his office and the phone intimation was given to lady’s neighbour. His Holiness knew about this and asked the lady devotee to go back. Now, the lady devotee asked His Holiness that as he knew all these things, she said that He could have stopped the incident! His Holiness gently replied saying that things which were going to happen could not be stopped but being a devotee of Kamakshi Amman the repercussions would be small, and that consoled her.

Such kind of acts are innumerable and only one instance has been given here.

காஞ்சியில் ஒரு கோவிலில் பெரியவா எல்லாருக்கும் தர்சனம் குடுத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார். அப்போது உணர்ச்சிப் பெருக்கை உடலால் சமாளிக்க முடியாமல் ஒரு தம்பதி தங்கள் பெண் குழந்தையுடன் வந்து பெரியவாளை நமஸ்கரித்தனர். “ஆந்த்ரப்ரபா” பத்திரிகையின் ஆசிரியரும், காந்திஜியின் நெருக்கமான தோழருமான நீலம் ராஜு வேங்கடஸேஷைய்யாவின புதல்விதான் அந்த அம்மா. பெரியவா அவர்களுடைய க்ஷேம லாபங்களை விஜாரித்தார். அவர்கள் கண்களில் கண்ணீர் வழிந்தோட கூறியதை கேட்டு, சுற்றி நின்று கொண்டிருந்த அத்தனை பேருக்கும் மயிர்க்கூச்சல் எடுத்தது..

“இன்னிக்கு பெரியவாளோட க்ருபையாலதான் இங்க வந்திருக்கோம்…நாஙĮ 1;க லண்டன்ல இருக்கோம். கொஞ்ச நாளைக்கு முன்னால [ஏதோ ஒரு தேசத்தின் பெயரைக் கூறி] அந்த country க்கு flight ல போய்ண்டிருந்தோம். திடீர்னு இஞ்சின்ல ஏதோ பெரிய கோளாறு. அதுனால safe landing கூட முடியாது..ங்கற மாதிரி பைலட் எல்லாருக்கும் ரெட் சிக்னல் குடுத்தார். விமானத்துக்குள்ள இருந்த அத்தனை பேரோட மனநிலையும் சொல்லக் கூட முடியாது!

ஆனா, உயிரே போகப்போறது..ங்கற நிலைமைல எங்களால பெரியவாளைத் தவிர வேற எதையுமே நினைக்கத் தோணலை! பெரியவாளோட சரணங்களை மானசீகமா கெட்டியா பிடிச்சிண்டோம்! எங்களோட பயம் பயமாத் தெரியலை! எங்களோட டிராவல் பண்ணிக் கொண்டிருந்த அத்தனை வெளிநாட்டுக்காராள& #;யும் தைரியமா இருக்கச் சொல்லி, “Sage of Kanchi ” ன்னு பெரியவாளை நாங்க தெய்வமாவே வர்ணிச்சு, ஆபத்பாந்தவர் அவரை வேண்டிண்டா, எந்த பெரிய விபத்தும் ஓடிப் போய்டும்ன்னு சொன்னதும், ப்ராணாபத்து வந்தா, பொழைக்கறதுக்கு எதைத்தான் பிடிச்சுக்க மாட்டா? அன்னிக்கி அந்த முழு விமானமும் பெரியவாளை த்யானிக்கற, பெரியவாளோட திருவடில தஞ்சமடையற த்யானகூடமாயிடுத்த&

கொஞ்ச நேரத்துல பைலட்டுகளுக்கு cooperate பண்ணாத முக்யமான இஞ்சின்கள், கருவிகள் எல்லாமே ஏதோ அதிசயமா “miracle “ன்னு அத்தனை பேரும் [பைலட்டுகள் உட்பட] ஆச்சர்யப்படும் ரொம்ப லகுவா வேலை செய்ய ஆரம்பிச்சுடுத்து! சாவோட விளிம்புலேர்ந்து எங்க எல்லாரையும் பெரியவா காப்பாத்திட்டா! விமானம் கீழ இறங்கினதும், பைலட்டுலேர்ந்து அத்தனை பேரும் எங்களை சூழ்ந்துண்டு, Kanchi Sage க்கு லெட்டர் எழுதினாலோ, அவரை பார்த்தாலோ, எங்க எல்லாரோட இதயபூர்வமான நன்றியையும், நமஸ்காரத்தையும் கட்டாயம் அவருக்கு தெரிவிக்கணும்ன்னு ரொம்ப கேட்டுண்டா….எங்களு க்கோ ஒடனே இந்தியாவுக்கு வந்து பெரியவாளை தர்சனம் பண்ணி, அவருக்கு பாதபூஜை பண்ணனும்னு ரொம்ப தவியா தவிச்சு, நேரே இங்க வந்துட்டோம்…” என்று விம்மல்களுக்கிடைய& ; சொல்லி முடித்தனர்.

ஆனால் பெரியவாளோ எப்போதும்போல் தனக்கும் இதற்கும் சம்பந்தமே இல்லாத மாதிரி, தனக்கு அவர்கள் சொல்லித்தான் எதுவுமே தெரிந்தா மாதிரி மலர்ந்து சிரித்துக் கொண்டே கேட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தார். பாரிஷதரிடம் பாதுகைகளை கொண்டு வரச் சொல்லிவிட்டு, அவர்களுடைய சின்னப் பெண் குழந்தையை அருகில் அழைத்து, பெற்றோர் கொண்டுவந்திருந்த ஸ்வர்ணபுஷ்பங்கள், வாஸனை புஷ்பங்கள் எல்லாவற்றையும் அதன் குட்டி பூ போன்ற கைகளால் அள்ளி அள்ளி போடச் சொன்னார். அதுவும் அழகாக அர்ச்சனையாகவே பாதுகைக்கு புஷ்பங்களைப் போட்டது.

பெரியவா அந்த தம்பதியிடம் “நீங்க ரெண்டு பேரும் சேந்துதான் இந்தக் கொழந்தை. இது பண்ற பூஜை, நீங்களே பண்ணறதுதான்! அதோட ஒங்க கையால பண்றதை விட, இது குட்டிக் கையால பண்ணறச்சே நெறைய அர்ச்சனை, நெறைய நாழி நடக்கும்!” என்று தெலுங்கில் கூறினார். அன்று அங்கு எல்லோருமே அந்த ஆனந்தத்தை அனுபவித்தனர்.

அவதார புருஷர்களிடம் உண்மையான பக்தி கொண்டவர்கள், எங்கிருந்தாலும் எந்த ஆபத்திலிருந்தும் நிச்சயம் காப்பாற்றப் படுவார்கள். இந்த மாதிரி “miracles ” ஐ நாம் அப்பேர்ப்பட்ட மஹான்களிடம் சென்று கூறினால், “அப்படியா!” என்று நம்மைவிட ரொம்ப அதிசயப்படுவது போல் அழகாக நடித்து விடுவார்கள். அதுவும் ஒருவகையில் பார்க்க அழகாக இருக்கும்.

ஆபத்தோ, ஸம்பத்தோ, எந்நேரமும் சத்குருவின் திருவடிகளியே நம் சிந்தை இருக்க குருவிடமே ப்ரார்த்திப்போம் !

Handful of Rice for Poor….Mahaperiva”s Advice….

Mahaperiavaa used to advice… “Everyday morning a handful of rice …uncooked… must be set apart for the poor. All families must do this without fail everyday. The rice thus kept must be collected from house to house every quarter , cooked and offered to the Deity of the local temple as Naivedya and then distributed among the poor people.

With the handful of rice every day, setapart for the poor people, keep just one Rupee also. The one Rupee collected from each family would be sufficient to buy cooking media and fuel . To carryout such a scheme is to do a great service to the poor. …and in turn to GOD.”

ஒரு அனுஷத்துக்கு மறுநாள் நிறைய பக்தர்கள் தர்சனம் பண்ண வந்தார்கள். அதில் ஒரு வயசான பாட்டி. பெரியவாளை பார்த்து “சர்வேஸ்வரா………..மஹாப்ர;ு….” என்று கன்னத்தில் போட்டுக் கொண்டார்.

“எப்டி இருக்கான் ஒன் ஸ்வீகாரம்?………”

“ஏதோ இருக்கான்………” விட்டேத்தியாக பதில் வந்தது பாட்டியிடமிருந்து.

“வயசான காலத்ல ஒனக்கு பிடிப்பே இல்லேன்னியே?………அதான் ஒதவியா இருக்கட்டுமே…ன்னுத ான் குடுத்தேன்” முகத்தில் சிரிப்பு!

பிடிப்பு இருக்கட்டும்…..ன்னு குடுத்தாராம்! சுற்றி இருந்தவர்கள் முகத்திலும் சிரிப்பு.

“சரி………ஒன் ஒடம்பு எப்டி இருக்கு?………”

“ஏதோ இருக்கேன்….பெரியவா அனுக்ரகம்…மழை பெஞ்சா, ஆத்துல முழுக்க ஒரேயடியா ஒழுகறது….அதை கொஞ்சம் சரி பண்ணிக் குடுத்தா, தேவலை பெரியவா”

என்னது? சுற்றி இருந்தவர்கள் அதிர்ந்தனர்! மோக்ஷத்தை தரவல்ல பராசக்தியிடம் எப்படிப் பட்ட விண்ணப்பம்!

“இந்த ஊர்ல மழையா ! காஞ்சிபுரந்தான் காஞ்சு போயிருக்கே!…….” மறுபடியும் கிண்டல் சிரிப்பு.

“இல்லையே….இப்போ ரெண்டு நாள் முன்னால பெஞ்ச மழைல கூட ஒழுகித்தே!…….”

“அப்டியா! சரி ஏற்பாடு பண்றேன்…..” பாட்டி நகர்ந்தாள். இத்தனை உரிமையோடு பெரியவாளிடம் பேசும் அந்த பாட்டி, எட்டு வயசில் திருமணமாகி விதவை ஆனவள். கணவர் வழியில் ஏராளமான சொத்து! ஒரு பெண்ணிடம் இத்தனை சொத்து இருக்க சொந்தக்காரர்கள் விடுவார்களா? அதே சமயம் தன்னிடம் வரவேண்டிய ஜீவன் ஒரு நாயாக இருந்தால் கூட பகவான் விட்டு வைப்பானா?

பெண்ணுக்கு விவரம் கொஞ்சம் நன்றாக தெரிந்திருந்ததால், சற்று சுதாரித்துக் கொண்டாள். காஞ்சிபுரத்துக்கு எதேச்சையாக வந்தவள், “தன் சொத்துக்கள் அத்தனையும் காமாக்ஷிக்கு!” என்று சொல்லிவிட்டாள். பெரியவா எவ்வளவோ மறுத்தும், கடைசியில் அந்த பெண்ணின் அன்பான பிடிவாதம் வென்றது. எனவே அவளுக்கு மடத்துக்கு சொந்தமான வீடு ஒன்றை தங்கிக்கொள்ள குடுத்துவிட்டார். அல்லும் பகலும் பெரியவாளை தர்சனம் பண்ணும் பாக்யம் ஒன்றே போதும் என்று பரம த்ருப்தியுடன், பணத்துக்கு துளியும் முக்யத்வம் குடுக்காத ஒரு ஆத்மாவை பெரியவா அல்லும் பகலும் ரக்ஷித்தார்.

பாட்டியோடு சிரித்துப் பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்தவரிடம் சில பிரமுகர்கள் வந்து ஒரு தட்டில் ஏதே பத்திரிகையை வைத்தார்கள். சிரித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த முகம் சட்டென்று மாறியது…….

“என்னது இது?”

“காமாக்ஷி அம்மன் ப்ரம்மோத்சவ பத்திரிகை……….”

“கலெக்டருக்கு குடுத்தாச்சா?”

“குடுத்துட்டோம். பெரியவா”

“இவாளுக்கு?” என்று பக்கத்தில் அமர்ந்திருந்த மற்ற ரெண்டு பெரியவாளையும் காட்டி கேட்டார்.

“குடுத்தாச்சு. பெரியவா……”

“ஓஹோ…சரி. எல்லார்க்கும் குடுத்துட்டு, இவன் மடத்த விட்டு எங்கேயும் போக மாட்டான்….ன்னுட்டு கடேசில போனாப் போறதுன்னு எனக்கும் ஒரு பத்திரிகை கொண்டு வந்தேளாக்கும்?”

ருத்ர முகம்!

“இல்லை…..அது வந்து……பெரியவா” நிர்வாகிகள் எச்சில் கூட முழுங்க முடியாமல், கால்கள் நடுங்க நின்றனர்.

“………கேட்டுக்கோங்கோ! மடத்து சம்ப்ரதாயம்..ன்னு ஒண்ணு இருக்குன்னாவது தெரியுமோ? பத்திரிகை மொதல்ல எங்க தரதுன்னு தெரியுமோல்லியோ? எல்லா சம்பிரதாயத்தையும் மீறி நடந்துண்டா எப்டி? நீ எத்தனை வர்ஷமா இங்க இருக்கே?” குண்டுகளாக துளைத்தன! பெரியவா பத்திரிகையை தொடவே இல்லை! மடத்து நிர்வாகிகள் நடுங்கிப் போய்விட்டனர்.

ஆம். தவறுதானே?

“எப்டி வரணுமோ அப்டி வாங்கோ” திரும்பி நடந்தவர்களை, “ஒரு நிமிஷம் ……..” நிறுத்தினார்.

“நீ எங்கே குடியிருக்கே?”

“வடக்கு சன்னதிப் பக்கம் ஒரு ஆத்துல…….”

“அங்க வேற ரெண்டு மூணு வீடு இருந்ததே…”

“அங்க சுப்புராமன் இருக்கார்……”

பெரியவாளுக்கோ எந்தெந்த வீடு, யார் யார் இருக்கிறார்கள் எல்லாம் அத்துப்படி!

“சுப்புராமன்தான் மேல போயிட்டாரே……அவரோட வாரிசுகள் மடத்ல வேலை செய்யறாளா என்ன?”

“இல்லை……….”

“மடத்ல வேலை செய்யறவாளுக்குத்த& #3006;ன் நாம வீட்டை குடுத்திருக்கோம். இங்க வேலை செய்யாதவாளுக்கு எதுக்கு வீடு? நீ என்ன செய்வியோ, ஏது செய்வியோ எனக்கு தெரியாது! நாளைக்கு மறுநாள், இந்த பாட்டி அந்த வீட்டுக்கு குடி போகணும் !..டேய்! நாளன்னிக்கு நல்ல நாளா…ன்னு பாரு”

“ஆமா பெரியவா நல்ல நாள்தான்”

“அப்போ சரி. இந்த பாட்டி நாளன்னிக்கு அந்தாத்துக்கு போறதுக்கு ஏற்பாடு பண்ணிடுங்கோ”

பெரியவா சங்கல்பம் நிறைவேறியது!

இதற்கப்புறம் மூன்று மாசம் கழித்து காமாக்ஷி கோவிலில் தர்சனம் பண்ணிவிட்டு சன்னதி தெரு வழியாக நடந்து வந்து கொண்டிருந்த பெரியவா, சட்டென்று ஒரு வீட்டின் முன் நிற்கிறார்.

பின்னால் வந்து கொண்டிருந்த பக்தர் குழாம் குழம்பியது. ஒரு பக்தரிடம், ”ரெண்டு மூணு நாளா பாட்டியை காணும்…..உள்ள போய் பாரு. ஒடம்புக்கு கிடம்புக்கு முடியலையோ என்னவோ…..”

உள்ளே….ஏழ்மையான எளிமையான வாஸம். ஒரே ஒரு குமுட்டி அடுப்பு. ரெண்டே ரெண்டு பாத்ரம். வேறு எதையுமே காணோம். பாட்டி ஒரு ஓரத்தில் முடங்கிக் கிடக்கிறாள். பக்தர் மெதுவாக பாட்டியிடம் பெரியவா வாசலில் நிற்கும் விஷயத்தை சொன்னதுதான் தாமதம்! தடாலென்று எழுந்து, தன் நார்மடியை சரி பண்ணிக் கொண்டு ஓடோடி வருகிறாள்.

இரைந்து…….”சர்வேஸ்வர……மஹாப்ரபு…….நீயே என்னைத் தேடிண்டு வந்துட்டியா?” என்று அலறிக் கொண்டு பெரியவா பாதத்தில் விழுந்தாள். மூன்று முறை வலம் வந்து நமஸ்கரித்தாள். இதை உண்மையான பக்தனும் பகவானும் மட்டுமே அனுபவிக்க முடியும்.

தினம் தினம் ஆயிரக்கணக்கானோர் வந்து தர்சனம் பண்ணுகிறார்கள். ஆனால், தன்னிடம் ஆத்மார்த்தமாக ப்ரேமை பூண்டவர்கள் ஒரு நாள் பார்க்க வராவிட்டால், பகவானால் தாங்க முடியாமல், தானே அவர்களைப் பார்க்க வந்துவிடுவான். அந்த பாட்டிக்கு கிடைத்த பாக்யம் எல்லோருக்கும் கிடைக்குமா? தன்னையே பெரியவாளிடம் முழுவதுமாக அர்ப்பணித்தவர்களுகு மட்டுமே நிச்சயம் கிடைக்கும்.

* கஷ்டங்களைச் சொல்வதாக இருந்தால் கடவுளிடம் மட்டும் சொல்லுங்கள். கண்ட இடங்களிலும் கண்ணில் பட்ட மனிதர்களிடம் எல்லாம் நம் துன்பங்களைச் சொல்வதால் எப்பயனும் இல்லை. கடவுளால் மட்டுமே நம்முடைய கஷ்டங்களை பொறுமையுடன் கேட்டு அதற்கு தீர்வு தரமுடியும்.
* பாவங்களை எப்படி தீர்த்துக் கொள்வது என்றால் புண்ணியத்தால் தான் தீர்த்துக் கொள்ள முடியும். போன பிறவியில் செய்த பாவங்களை இந்த பிறவியிலாவது தீர்க்கட்டும் என்ற கருணையினால் தான் இறைவன் நமக்கு பிறப்பினைத் தந்திருக்கிறார்.
* மனம் இருக்கும்வரை ஆசைகள் இருக்கத்தான் செய்யும். அதனால் மனதை அடக்கி விட வேண்டும். மனம் அடங்கக் கற்றுக் கொண்டால் மரணநிலையில் இருப்பது போல், ஒரு சக்தியுமின்றி ஜடம் போல் ஆகிவிடுவோம் என்று எண்ணக்கூடாது. மாறாக, மனம் அடங்கும் போது, சகல சக்திகளுக்கும் ஆதாரமான நிலை உருவாகும்.
* பேசும்போது “வளவள’ என்று மிகையாகப் பேசாமல் நிதானமாக அளந்து பேச வேண்டும். திருவள்ளுவரும் எதைக் காக்காவிட்டாலும் நாக்கைக் கட்டுப்படுத்திப் பழகவேண்டும் என்று சொல்லியிருப்பதை நாம் நினைவில் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

Alongwith Water , Happiness and Bliss also Gushing out !!!!

It was a hot summer season. Severe water scarcity prevailed in the villages. The rivers and ponds had all dried up. In many homes, even their wells went dry. Whatever water was available, the villagers shared among themselves.

On the request of devotees of a village where there was severe water scarcity, Periva had come to the village and was giving darshan.

Everyone in the village came for darshan – the rich and the poor, the good and the bad, the miser and the philanthropist; everyone.

A very old person had come. The others who were there gave him way, out of respect, to have Periva’s darshan. It was evident that he was an important person in the village.

He paid his obeisance, and stood up.

Periva asked him “What is your age?”

“Me? I am quite old now – eight two years”, replied the old man.

“Sowkiama?” (Is all well with you?), asked Periva.

“No, Sami. Where is the room for happiness? There are quarrels in my family all the time. No one listens to what I say. I am not in good health too. I am living life just for the sake of it”, said the old man.

“You must be very depressed…”

“Yes.., Sami”

“If I show you a way to be happy, will you obey me?”, asked Periva.

“Tell me Sami”, said the old man, eagerly.

“You have fenced the pump-set in your Thottam (field), with the intention that others cannot take even a drop of water. People here are undergoing a lot of hardship for water to drink and cook. You are using the water from your pump-set to water your crops, and your Thottam (field) alone is flourishing. You say that your property and family is not giving you any happiness. Break down the fence around your pump-set. Let all the people take the water. They will all bless you for this and you will find the happiness that you want”.

Tears were flowing down the eyes of the old man.

The villagers who were listening to Periva’s advise stood there stunned!

“None of them had told Periva about the pump-set in the old man’s house (or) that he had fenced it preventing them from fetching water. Nor did they tell Periva that the old man will not hesitate to pick up a fight if they trespassed”. They only prayed for the water crisis to be resolved by Periva’s grace. That’s all.

When Periva was about to leave the place, two youngsters came running. “The old man has taken off the fencing around the pump-set!”, they exclaimed.

Water was gushing from the pump-set.

Happiness and sheer bliss was also gushing from the heart of the old man who had removed the fence, paving way for everyone in the village to use the water.

Periva’s compassion has no boundaries. His Arul (Divine grace) will continue to flow like a river which never runs dry.
