Natarajan

Yashiko was a wealthy samurai warrior in ancient Japan. He cut a fine figure; his armour and sword were of the finest workmanship. His ornaments were of the finest variety: silver, copper, gold and bronze. Even the toggles on his tunic were priceless netsuke: masterfully carved figures of animals, insects, dragons and fishes, made of the purest ivory. He lived with his wife and elderly mother in an elegant tiled house in the best quarter of the town. He frequently drank the rarest and finest of teas, and often dined in the most expensive restaurants. His wife Ayako was considered the most beautiful woman in the kingdom, and his aged mother was much celebrated for her wisdom and learning.

Life was good for Yashiko. He had a handsome salary from the emperor, regular revenue from his many properties, and a hefty stake in a porcelain trading business. But even all this wealth was not enough for a man like Yashiko. To keep from getting bored (which was uncomfortably often) the proud and greedy samurai decided to start a moneylending business for poor people.

“After all, it takes money to make money,” thought Yashiko. “You never know when a rainy day or a water flood or the wind dragons may come and wipe everything away. Life is at best uncertain. A day is bound to come when more money will be needed than what is presently being returned to me by my investments. The poor are always with us, and the poor always need money. I can charge them a high rate of interest and not have to lift a hand. What a clever way to make some extra cash! I wish I had thought of it long ago. Why, moneylending is practically a licence to mint money! I shall begin my new enterprise, at once! At once!”

Down at the docks, Michiko, a poor fisherman, had experienced an unlucky year with his business. Regretfully, he took out a sizeable loan from Yashiko so he could feed his wife and children. A year later, the loan had not been repaid. The proud samurai strapped on his deadly sword and strode off to find the fisherman and collect what was his due.

“I’ll show him who’s boss,” thought Yashiko.

“One look at me and my sword and he’ll come running with the money.”

Upon seeing Yashiko marching forcefully towards him, full of his own importance, the ragged fisherman bowed humbly before the proud samurai.

“O Revered Sir! Great Samurai! Noble Warrior! It has been a very bad year again for me. I do not have sufficient funds to repay you.”

“What!” shouted Yashiko furiously. “After all this time! You scoundrel! After all the time and patience I have shown you! A whole year has gone by and you cannot even show me a single yen in repayment! Now I am going to kill you!” Menacingly, he drew his sword.

Fearing his life was about to end, the fisherman spoke up loudly.

“Revered sir, for sometime now I have been studying martial arts. One of the lessons my master has taught me is that you should never strike another when you are angry.”

“Hmmmmm,” thought Yashiko. “This is a clever fellow.” Just to be on the safe side, he lowered his sword.

“Your master is wise,’ said Yashiko carefully. “And I myself, as a student of the art of the sword, have heard that lesson many times. To be honest with you, O fisherman, I have such a temper that I often act without thinking. I tell you what I will do. You shall have another year to repay your debt. If you do not repay me in one year, I will come and take your life away with this sword.”

“Thank you, kind sir,’ murmured Michiko, bowing low.

Yashiko composed himself and walked away, his honour intact. By the time he had dined out at his favourite restaurant and arrived home it was nearly midnight. Seeing no lights in his house, he crept in quietly, not wishing to wake the servants or disturb his wife and aged mother. As he entered the house he lit the bronze oil lamp in the hallway. There he saw his wife whispering secretly to a strange man in the darkened living room at the end of the hall.

“What is the meaning of this insult!” shouted Yashiko. Swiftly he drew his sword, ready to kill them both instantly. Just then the words of the fisherman echoed in his fevered brain.

“Never strike when you are angry.”

Yashiko paused and took a deep, laboured breath. Then his wife lit a candle.
To his amazement, he found himself face to face with not only his wife, but his beloved mother too, who was dressed like a man in his warrior clothing.

“What is the meaning of this? Are you both completely crazy? Is this a joke? I almost killed the two of you! I demand an explanation—immediately!”

“O Revered Husband,” murmured Ayako, “You, my lord, as a samurai, are the guardian and sole protector of this house. Because you had not returned by dark, Mother and I were afraid. We decided to dress Mother up in your clothes to keep away intruders.”

“Oh, my God! Oh, my ancestors!” wept Yashiko. He shivered at the thought that because of his terrible temper, he had nearly killed what he loved most in the world – his beloved wife and his adoring mother.

A year later, Yashiko went to see the poor fisherman down at the docks.
Michiko, upon seeing the samurai walking towards him, bowed humbly before him.

“It has been an excellent year’s fishing, my Lord! Please accept the money I owe you, plus interest.”
“Keep your money, dear man,” replied Yashiko gently.
“You don’t know it, but your debt was paid long ago.”
Bhagawan says on the subject of anger:

One’s anger is one’s greatest enemy and one’s calmness is one’s own protection. One’s joy is one’s heaven and one’s sorrow is one’s hell… assume silence when you are invaded by anger. Or remember the name of the Lord. Do not try to remind yourself of things which will inflame the anger more… That will do incalculable harm. A man consumed by anger can never be free of misery. For the decline in human qualities today, pride and anger are primarily responsible.

7 “C” s Of Happiness !!!!

What are the critical ingredients for experiencing genuine happiness? Here are seven elements of life that I believe are essential to the attainment of human happiness. I call them the “7 C’s in the pursuit of happiness.” One is not more important than any of the others.

1 -Compassion
In order to evolve into a state of happiness, you must develop your in-born ability to care about life, to value life in all its forms, to engage in loving, kind actions, to cultivate an attitude of what Nobel laureate, Dr. Albert Schweitzer called “reverence for life,” (including your own).

2 -Contentment
Inner calm. Peace of mind and heart does not mean acceptance of everything that happens. It does mean letting go of fear. When you live life fearlessly, you experience a kind of peace that permeates every cell of your body, every thought of your mind, every emotion of your heart, every element of your spirit.

3 -Connection
Without effectively connecting to other humans, you become less than human yourself. Connection means involving yourself in relationship to everyone around you, connecting to your own inner life, and becoming aware of the environment in which you live. Learn to create high-quality relationships, and your happiness is almost guaranteed.

4 -Communication
Communication is our primary method for connection. It increases your knowledge, your understanding, and your awareness. Language is precious. Words are the building blocks of all happiness.

5 -Commitment
Oprah Winfrey says that what motivates her to get up in the morning is “my commitment to my life and fulfilling my life purpose.” If one of your life’s purposes is to enhance your happiness, committing your life to the service of others brings more happiness than you can imagine. Happiness requires you commit yourself to something larger than yourself.

6 -Consciousness
Most spiritual teachers believe we are living in a sleep-like or dream state. In order to be happy, one must increase one’s awareness of life. And the single awareness that is most conducive to happiness is: the impermanence of everything. Life is in a constant state of flux, of change, of rhythm and of evolution.

7 -Creativity
Creating your life experience by consciously choosing your thoughts, your actions, your decisions and your attitudes will allow you to attain personal happiness regardless of external circumstances.

The pursuit of happiness is not something you search for or attain from outside your skin. Happiness develops from within. You were born to be happy. You were given life to experience happiness. Pursuing it is your right. Sail the 7 C’s of happiness and the pursuit of it becomes obvious and being alive becomes the happiest of moments

Message For The Day…..Which is The Genuine Training We Need ?

While studying other things, you should learn the secret of shanti(peace) also. This opportunity should not be missed, for that is the wisdom which will save you. For without Peace, life is a nightmare. The present system of education aims at making you breadwinners and citizens, but it does not give you the secret of a happy life; namely discrimination between the unreal and the real, which is the genuine training you need. The cultivation of viveka(discrimination) is the chief aim of education; the promotion of virtuous habits and the strengthening of Dharma (righteousness) – these are to be attended to; not the acquisition of polish or gentlemanliness, or collection of general information and the practice of common skills.

‘My mum’s doing the shopping’ !!!!

Locked in: the baby with the note.Locked in: the baby with the note. Photo: Facebook

A photo of a baby inside a locked car outside a New Zealand supermarket has sparked outrage online.

The photo was taken outside Porirua Pak ‘n Save on Saturday morning, the New Zealand Herald reported.

The photo shows a newborn baby wrapped in a blanket in a car seat, with a note on the blanket saying to call if there are any issues.

A mobile phone number is on the note.

A man who spoke to the Herald said he saw the baby and the note after he and his family parked next to it.

“It was written from the baby’s perspective, and it said, ‘My mum’s in doing the shopping, call her if I need anything’, and it had the cellphone number.

“We waited there for a little bit, wondering if the mum was just going to be two seconds and come back. And my wife said, ‘I’m not going in without someone being here with the baby’,” the man told the Herald.

The photo was posted on radio personality Polly Gillespie’s Facebook page and triggered many heated responses.

Commenter Cat Marie Horne wrote: “I’m sorry this is completely irresponsible! You do not leave children under the age of 14 unsupervised at all.

“Why did she have time to write a note?? Secondly, you do not put a capsule seat in the front of a car, due to dashboard airbags. Also, if you are that tired you should not be driving.”

There were more than 1100 comments on the post, with many outraged at the incident, but many felt sympathy for the mother involved.

Linda Gill wrote:”It was in Porirua, according to the original Facebook post… and it’s not something I would have done but I choose not to come on here and condemn her.

“It’s very easy to come on here and cast judgement on others, because I’m sure you’ve never, ever done anything wrong in your lives.

“The difference is someone took a photo this time. Aren’t you all glad that someone isn’t following you around with a camera. (Aimed at no one in particular, just food for thought).”

Porirua Pak ‘n Save compliance manager Marty Fryer said he didn’t know what had happened until somebody rang him about it yesterday.

“It’s not really an issue we deal with normally, although we get all sorts of things going on out here.

“We have staff in the carpark so if they saw something like a baby in a car they would bring it to our attention,” he said.

It is illegal for a parent or guardian to leave a child under the age of 14 alone for an unreasonable time or in unreasonable conditions. Doing so could result in a fine of up to $2000.

Message For The Day…Experience The Truth Silently…

There is no use arguing and quarrelling amongst you. Examine, experience and then you will know the truth. Be silent when you are still undecided or engaged in evaluating. Do not proclaim before you are convinced. Of course, you must discard all evil in you before you can attempt to evaluate the mystery. When faith dawns, it is very important to fence it with discipline and self-control. Just as the tender sapling is guarded with a fence to protect against the goats and cattle; you too should stay away from the motley crowd of cynics and unbelievers. When your faith grows into a big tree, those very cattle which wanted to eat the young plant now lay and rest in the shade of the tree which has spread with lots of branches and leaves.

Message For The Day….Dont Ignore Traffic Signals In Life !!!!

The system of education, which promotes an attitude of contempt towards learning that does not yield monetary benefits, is largely responsible for the neglect of great scriptures and saints. Another cause is the general decline in the moral standards of living. When all are sliding down the easy path of flippancy, those who advise against it and warn about the inevitable disaster are ignored and laughed at. Sunk in the search of pleasures and cheap recreation, people become deaf to the counsels of the ancient and calls of the sublime. Scriptures are like traffic signals in a busy junction. If the signals are removed, the journey is rendered slow and difficult, filled with accidents and chaos. We cannot afford to destroy them. We have to restore them for the well-being of humanity.

There is no nobler quality in the world than love. It is wisdom. It is righteousness. It is wealth.   Sathya Sai Baba
It is Truth. – Baba

Pretty Good Thinker !!!!!…..For Instant Laugh !!!!

A grocery store employee is working in the produce department when a customer approaches and asks to buy half a head of lettuce.

“You can’t buy just half a head, we sell them whole.” says the employee.

The customer responds “Go get your manager, and I’ll ask him.”

So the employee goes to his manager and says “Some idiot out there wants to buy just one half of a lettuce head…”, then suddenly realizes the customer is right behind him, so he turns and gestures “and this gentleman would like to buy the other half!”

After the customer leaves, the manager says “That was pretty quick thinking, where are you from?”

The kid says “I’m from Brazil.”

“So why didn’t you stay there? Isn’t it a beautiful country?”

“Yea, but the place is full of either soccer players or sluts.” Said he kid.

“My wife is from Brazil!” growls the manager.

“Really?” Asks the kid without losing a beat, “What team does she play for???!!!!

Indian startup aims for the moon – and $30 million Prize Money!!!!

GOOGLE LUNAR X PRIZE | MOON | SPACE | TEAM INDUS

Rahul Narayan, who describes himself as a serial entrepreneur, is the founder of Team Indus. It is the only Indian team in a race to the moon by privately funded groups competing for the largest international incentive prize of all time – the Google Lunar X Prize.

Google is offering $30 million in prizes to the first privately funded teams to safely land a robot on the Moon, including a grand prize and other bonus prizes.

With a purse of $30 million, the competition will reward the first privately funded team to softland on the moon, travel 500 metres and transmit back to earth, at a distance of nearly 4 lakh km.

With a purse of $30 million, the competition will reward the first privately funded team to softland on the moon, travel 500 metres and transmit back to earth, at a distance of nearly 4 lakh km.!!!!!!

In a conversation with Reuters, Narayan talks about Team Indus’ prospects, timing, his struggle to be taken seriously by investors and why he would not be too disappointed if someone else wins.

Q: What is the biggest challenge in this mission?

A: Everything is a challenge – money, finding advisers, being taken seriously, reaching out to people.

Almost all of it is uncharted territory. Nobody’s done a (privately funded) mission before, definitely not from India.

Q: How was Team Indus formed?

A: I had gotten in touch with them (organizers) saying, if there was an Indian team, please let me know, I’d like to work with them. They got back to me saying there was no Indian team, and if you want to set up a team, we can give you a bit of expert help. That’s when I got out of whatever startups I was doing.

Q: How did you recruit people for this project?

A: Almost our entire team right now is people who came to our website and said they wanted to work.

Q: When is your planned launch date?

A: We plan to launch sometime in 2015.

Q: How much have you spent so far? What is the projected total cost?

A: We’ve spent about one crore rupees (10 million rupees, or about $185,200), including for registration, a little bit of prototype being done, operational expenses and salaries. It’s a design effort and we are not doing any hardware yet. Total spend, we expect it to be $15 million.

Q: Where do you see yourself among the 23 active teams?

A: We believe we are in the top five. We believe the moment we sign up with ISRO, we will be in the top two. Signing up with ISRO is the one big event that changes a lot of things for us. It has not happened yet, but we’ve started talking to them. (The Indian Space Research Organisation, or ISRO, is the primary space agency of the Indian government. Team Indus plans to use ISRO’s PSLV satellite launch vehicle for its moon mission)

Q: The competition rules state that the project must be 90 percent privately funded. So how are you managing?

A: Right now it is founder-funded. We’ve divided the cost into three different parts. One is cost of design, second is the cost of building it and the third is the cost of launching it. We have separate strategies for each one of them. For designing, we will be looking for investments. Building it is where we are looking at partnerships (aerospace companies, IITs or government agencies). We are looking at these people to partner with us and potentially contribute, if not money, then equipment. The last part, we are going to do crowdfunding.

Q: Why would investors be interested?

A: I started by saying we are an aerospace company. So we see this as a company which is doing a project, and it will continue doing other aerospace projects or derived technologies or IPR, or licensing rights from what we’re going to do here (moon mission).

We are a for-profit company. It’s not just this mission, we will continue building beyond it.

Q: What if somebody else beats you to the prizes?

A: We’re definitely aiming for the first prize. We’ve got one bonus prize built into it. But, if all the prizes go away in 2014 and I’ve booked my launch with ISRO, that doesn’t mean I stop. I have to go because I’ve already done my engineering, I’ve already spent the money and probably just a residual amount is left. So you’d see that differently as then maybe it converts from a Google Lunar X Prize mission to simply a India’s mission. It’s a people mission, people have contributed to it, people have worked in it, and people have a part in it.

Q: What would losing mean for your team?

A: Even if we lose, we’ll still accomplish a fantastic engineering feat. Prize money is just one component of it, so I’m talking about a company which is going to continue after the prize money….

Background of Some Brand Names !!!!!

Adobe – came from name of the river Adobe Creek that ran behind the house of founder John Warnock.

Apache – It got its name because its founders got started by applying patchesto code written for NCSA’s httpd daemon. The result was ‘A PAtCHy’server — thus, the name Apache
Apple Computers – favorite fruit of founder Steve Jobs. He was three months late in filing a name for the business, and he threatened to call his company Apple Computers if the other colleagues didn’t suggest a better name by 5 o’clock.

CISCO – its not an acronym but the short for San Francisco.

Google – the name started as a jokey boast about the amount of information the search-engine would be able to search. It was originally named ‘Googol’,a word for the number represented by 1 followed by 100 zeros. After founders,Stanford grad students Sergey Brin and Larry Page presented their project to an angel investor, they received a cheque made out to ‘Google’

Hotmail – Founder Jack Smith got the idea of accessing e-mail via the web from a computer anywhere in the world. When Sabeer Bhatia came up with the business plan for the mail service, he tried all kinds of names ending in’mail’ and finally settled for hotmail as it included the letters “html” – the programming language used to write web pages. It was initially referred to as HoTMaiL with selective upper casing.

HP – Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard tossed a coin to decide whether the company they founded would be called Hewlett-Packard or Packard-Hewlett.
Intel – Bob Noyce and Gordon Moore wanted to name their new company’Moore Noyce’ but that was already trademarked by a hotel chain, so they had to settle for an acronym of INTegrated ELectronics.

Lotus (Notes) – Mitch Kapor got the name for his company from ‘The Lotus Position’ or ‘Padmasana’. Kapor used to be a teacher of Transcendenta lMeditation (by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi).

Microsoft – coined by Bill Gates to represent the company that was devoted to MICROcomputer SOFTware. Originally christened Micro-Soft, the ‘-‘ was removed later on.

Motorola – Founder Paul Galvin came up with this name when his company started manufacturing radios for cars. The popular radio company at the time was called Victrola.

ORACLE – Larry Ellison and Bob Oats were working on a consulting project for the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency). The code name for the project was called Oracle

Red Hat – Company founder Marc Ewing was given the Cornell lacrosse team cap (with red and white stripes) while at college by his grandfather. He lost it and had to search for it desperately. The manual of the beta version of Red Hat Linuxhad an appeal to readers to return his Red Hat if found by anyone !

SAP – “Systems, Applications, Products in Data Processing”, formed by 4 ex-IBM employees who used to work in the ‘Systems/Applications/Projects”

SUN – founded by 4 Stanford University buddies, SUN is the acronym for Stanford University Network.

Xerox – The inventor, Chestor Carlson, named his product trying to say ‘dry’ (as it was dry copying, markedly different from the then prevailing wet copying). The Greek root ‘xer’ means dry.

Yahoo! – the word was invented by Jonathan Swift and used in his book ‘Gulliver’sTravels’. It represents a person who is repulsive in appearance and action and is barely human. Yahoo! founders Jerry Yang and David Filo selected the name because they considered themselves yahoos.

Message For The Day…..Keep Pace With Time For Sadhana !!!!

Life is short, time is fleeing: your spiritual practice (sadhana) is creeping at tortoise pace. When will you decide to proceed a little faster? Your sadhana is like the answers you write at the examination. If you get only five or six marks, the examiner will strike out even that, saying, “What is the use of these few marks: it will take this student neither here nor there.” If you get somewhere near the passing marks, then Grace will give you just a little more so that you may pass, provided you have been a diligent and well-behaved student. Engage yourselves in good deeds, good company and good thoughts. Fix your attention on the goal.

Spiritual Sadhana means cultivating good thoughts and undertaking good deeds. – Baba
