1

Cruciferous vegetables are the gold standard in immune-boosting vegetables.

Although all vegetables have nutrients and some protective powers, for these vegetables, it’s off the charts. Cruciferous vegetables have a special chemical composition: They have sulfur-containing compounds that are responsible for their pungent flavors. When they’re broken down by biting, blending, or chopping, a chemical reaction occurs that converts these sulfur-containing compounds into isothiocyanates(ITCs). ITCs prevent and knock out cancer and have infinite proven immune-boosting capabilities.

They contain antiviral and antibacterial agents that keep you disease free. Adding the following cruciferous vegetables to your daily plate is like taking an anticancer pill: arugula, beet greens, bok choy, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collards, horseradish, kale, kohlrabi, mustard greens, radishes, red cabbage, turnip greens, or watercress.

2

Garlic is surely one of the world’s most potent medicines, and its potent smell is what makes it so powerful.

The active ingredient allicin turns into organosulfurs, which are the compounds that keep your cells safe from all the destructive cellular processes that can cause major chronic diseases. Garlic is a natural antiseptic; it prevents cancer, fights infection, and prevents colds. Research also states that garlic may prevent or decrease chronic diseases associated with age, such as atherosclerosis, stroke, cancer, immune disorders, brain aging, cataracts, and arthritis.

3

Onions are rich inquercetin, a powerful antioxidant that may reduce the risk of cancer.

Like garlic, onions also contain the amazing compound allicin. Red and purple onions containanthocyanins, the same antioxidants that make berries so robust in healing powers. In addition to being extraordinary at preventing and healing cancer, the quercetin contained in onion makes them a safe therapy for allergies; it also helps prevent heart disease and reduce high blood pressure.

4

The power of mushrooms comes from their ability to enhance the activity of natural killer T cells (NKT).

These NKTs attack and remove cells that are damaged or infected by a virus. Mushrooms are associated with decreasing most cancers and significantly reducing the risk of breast cancer in women. They prevent DNA damage, slow cancer or tumor growth, and prevent tumors from acquiring a blood supply.

5

Tomatoes are also the richest source of the exceptionally potent antioxidant lycopene,a substance that prevents cancer, particularly cancer of the prostate.

Tomatoes also have high levels of beta carotene, an antioxidant that supports the immune system. They have high dietary fiber and taste delicious raw or cooked.

6

Beets are an amazing blood purifier.

Beets are rich in iron and produce the disease-fighting white blood cells. They also stimulate red blood cells and improve the supply of oxygen to the cells. Beets prevent cancer and heart disease, and the detoxifying properties make them good for your organs. Beets are also high in fiber and nourishing for digestive health.

7

Spinach is rich in beta carotene, which the body transforms into vitamin A, triggering your immune response to keep you well.

Spinach prevents cancer and heart disease and is rich in the disease-fighting mineral zinc. The vitamin C helps you resist colds and infection and keeps your skin healthy; the B vitamins keep you calm and more energetic.

8

Asparagus’s biggest talent is its ability to encourage the body to flush out toxins, due to its natural diuretic abilities.

Asparagus is both cleansing and anti-inflammatory to the body. It has the antioxidant glutathione, which can lower your risk factor for heart disease and cancer. It’s useful for all inflammatory conditions, such as arthritis and irritable bowel syndrome.

9

Artichoke supports the liver.

The substance cynarin gives artichoke its detoxifying qualities. Artichokes’ B vitamins increase mental alertness and strengthen your immunity.

10

Red bell pepper is bursting with vitamin C, making it a powerful immune builder.

Red bell pepper’s high level of beta carotene turns into vitamin A, making it a strong defense against disease. Although green and yellow peppers are certainly healthy, they’re more superfoodish. Although they both have similar amounts of vitamin C, red bell peppers have quite a bit more of the superstar beta carotene.

11

Sweet potatoes are far superior than the run-of-the-mill white potato.

The orange variety contains beta carotene, which makes them filled with robust antioxidant, antiviral, and anticancer abilities. They’re also full of fiber and the vitamin E they contain is healthy for the skin.

Astronomer Copernicus in Google Doodle….

Nicolaus Copernicus celebrated in Google doodle

Astronomer whose heliocentric theory of the universe triggered a revolution in scientific thinking was born on 19 February 1473

Nicolaus Copernicus Google doodle

Nicolaus Copernicus, the Polish astronomer, is the subject of the latest Google doodle.

Google’s latest doodle celebrates the birthday of Nicolaus Copernicus, the astronomer who transformed our understanding of the solar system and is best known for his theory that the sun and not the Earth is at the centre of the universe.

Born on 19 February 1473 as the son of a merchant in the city of Toruń, Poland, he studied at Krakow Academy, now the Jagiellonian University, before travelling to Italy to study law in 1496.

While studying at the University of Bologna, his passions for geography and astronomy were encouraged by a mathematics professor, Domenico Maria de Novara.

He returned to Poland and worked there for several years as a secretary to his uncle, a bishop, before taking on an administrative post in the city of Frauenberg, where he continued to study astronomy.

By 1514, at the behest of the Catholic church, he was involved in working to improve the calendar and in 1530 produced a major piece of research, De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium (On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres).

His observations were the first to place the sun, not the Earth, at the centre of what is now known as the solar system.

His heliocentric revolution was condemned by Martin Luther.

He died in May 1543. Legend has it that the first printed copy of De Revolutionibus was placed in his hands on the day of his death.

His long-lost skeleton was located in 2005 under floor tiles near one of the side altars in the 14th-century Roman Catholic cathedral in Frombork.

Message For The Day…Devotion to God Purifies Your Heart….

Wavering and indecisiveness will affect you, if you want to practice Righteousness. If you are not stabilized in the Knowledge of the Self, you will not have a good sense of direction for your actions, nor will you achieve true victory. That is why the Geetha lays so much emphasis on the necessity to know both the kshethra (field or the body) and the kshethrajna (the Knower in the body). Know both, and then, you are entitled to the title, Amrithasya Puthraah: “Children of Immortality.” Through devotion to God alone, this knowledge can be attained. Devotion also purifies your heart and elevates your inner feelings and gives you a broad, universal vision and brings to you the Grace of God. Plants cannot rise up to drink the life giving fluid from clouds, hence the clouds come down and pour as rain.

Devotion and morality are very important for physical health. They free your mind from agitation, and feed it with joy and contentment. –

Mahaperiavar Hosts Dinner For Hunters!!!!!

Kannappan the hunter fed Shiva Mahadev. Guhan the hunter fed Sri Rama. Here, the hunters named the Senjus of the Srisailam forest area were fed by the Paramacharaya!

During the 1934s, when the road transport facilities were very scanty, Paramacharya was traveling with his entourage in the desolate forests of Srisailam. Somewhere on the way, they came across the Senju hunters.

Mistaking them for their foes, the hunters raised their bow and arrows initially, but when they saw the sage with his divya tejas, they realized their mistake and became friendly.

The people who came to oppose their passage became their security guards, carrying their luggage and watching over their camps at night time. Only after safely seeing off Paramacharya and his entourage at their next destination, the hunters assembled before them to take leave.

Paramacharya ordered the manager to give them some cash, but they refused to touch the money. The leader of the group said something to the manager, who nodded his head in disapproval and spread out his hands.

Paramacharya snapped his fingers and called the manager to attention: “What is it that he asks for and you refuse?”

“They want to show their dancing skills before Periyavaa”.

“So you told them that I can’t see their dance because it was your opinion as manager that it was beneath the dignity of SriMatam.”

There was not any trace of anger in Paramacharya’s words. The manager was silent.

And the Paramacharya, who would not witness the performance of even the great and popular dance artistes, gave them permission to dance before him, with a condition: that while any of their males could dance, only those females who hadn’t attained puberty could join the males in dance.

Paramacharya asked them, “you might have different types of dances to suit different occasions: one for Swami (God), one for victory, one for sports and so on. What type of dance are you going to perform now?”

They gave a telling reply: “We are going to perform the dance reserved only for the closest of our relatives.”

Paramacharya witnessed their dance, blessed them, and hosted a nice dinner for them.

Air Travel Myths and Mysteries….

Myths and mysteries of an Air Travel…

From the safest seat on a plane to why some airlines don’t include row 13 and what really happens to your waste, we reveal the truth about air travel, with some help from flight deal website Skyscanner.com.

Is it safe to drink the water on planes?

Some planes have unwanted stowaways in their water supply, including bacteria that could make you sick, according to tests by the US Environmental Protection Agency in 2009. The water didn’t meet safety standards in one out of every seven planes tested, with bacteria associated with human faeces like coliform and E. coli found. Bacteria can grow in the plane’s water tanks and hoses, as the water is pumped on board through hoses that are difficult to clean. Best to be cautious on this!

Do you really get drunk quicker while in the skies?

Not true, according to studies. Dr. Bhushan Kapur from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine said passengers’ blood alcohol level doesn’t increase in the air. However, people do tend to drink more in a shorter time frame in the skies, which can leave them more impaired. So where does the misconception come from? The onboard effects of hypoxia – less oxygenated conditions due to the low-pressure environment and high altitude – can cause passengers to experience symptoms similar to intoxication.

What happens to your waste?

Airlines are not allowed to dump their waste tanks in mid-flight, however leaks can occur. Numerous “blue ice” (frozen sewage material treated by a liquid disinfectant that freezes at high altitude) impacts have been recorded, including some where it has fallen through the roofs of people’s homes.
For example, one UK couple were reportedly sitting in their garden when blue ice hit the roof of their house before landing on their heads. It gave off a “particularly pungent whiff of urine” as if thawed.

Do flight attendants have to be a certain weight?

There are no strict rules according to waistlines, but cabin crew must have “weight in proportion to height”. They must be able to sit in the jump seat without an extended seat belt and fit through the emergency exit window. The acceptable height is approximately 160-185 centimetres.

What happens when the pilot goes to the toilet?

Ever wondered why the seatbelt sign randomly lights up during a flight? Well forget turbulence, it may be that the pilot has made a sneaky trip to the toilet. A cabin crew member will guard the flight deck door while the pilot makes the trip to the lavatory.

Can lightning cause a plane crash?

Passenger planes are inevitable targets for lightning, which strikes a commercial plane on average once a year. However, lightning hasn’t downed a passenger plane since 1967. Planes have to pass numerous lightning certification tests. The outer skin of most planes is mainly aluminium – a good conductor of electricity. The current flows through the skin from the point of impact to another extremity point, commonly the tail.

Why do airlines leave out row 13?

Some airlines remove row 13 from their planes so not to spook superstitious flyers, including Air France, Emirates, Continental Airlines, Lufthansa and Ryanair. Lufthansa also flies minus a 17th row as it’s regarded as unlucky in Italy and Brazil.

Do lavatories have to be fitted with an ashtray, despite ban on smoking?

Smoking on planes has been banned for nearly 15 years, but all planes worldwide must have ashtrays to ensure flight safety. Why? A discarded cigarette sparked a plane crash in 1973, so the rule was adopted in case a passenger gave in to their cravings on a flight.

Can you get high from the emergency masks?

Contrary to what Brad Pitt’s character in Fight Club may think, the oxygen from the emergency masks won’t get you high. It’s actually a loss of oxygen that makes you feel this way, so that’s why airlines provide the masks in case the cabin pressure suddenly drops.

Can your mobile phone cause a plane crash?

The jury’s still out on this issue, but airlines are erring on the side of caution. Current regulations give crew the power to ban the use of any device that could threaten the safety of an aircraft. Experts say that electromagnetic waves emitted by mobiles can interfere with a plane’s electronics and cause a crash, concerns that were outlined in an investigation by the New York Times last year.

Which seats are the safest?

It’s true – the safest seat should you be involved in a mid-air disaster is the emergency exit, according to researchers from the University of Greenwich commissioned by the US Civil Aviation Authority, who looked at the accounts of 2000 survivors in 105 air accidents around the world. A seat up to five rows from an exit offers a greater chance of escaping if there’s a fire. There’s only a “marginal” difference as to whether the seat is on the aisle or not. It also found passengers at the front of the plane had a 65 per cent chance of escape, while those at the rear had only a 53 per cent chance.

Why does food taste different on a plane?

It’s not just your imagination – food really does taste different in the skies. Firstly, the atmosphere inside the cabin dries out the nose and then the change in air pressure numbs approximately a third of the taste buds. This explains why airlines tend to add a lot of salt and spice to food.

Power of Peaceful Mind !!!

THOUGHT OF THE DAY: SILENCE YOUR MIND
————————

There once was a farmer who discovered that he had lost his watch in the barn. It was no ordinary watch because it had sentimental value for him. After searching high and low among the hay for a long while; he gave up and enlisted the help of a group of children playing outside the barn. He promised them that the person who found it would be rewarded.

Hearing this, the children hurried inside the barn, went through and around the entire stack of hay but still could not find the watch.

Just when the farmer was about to give up looking for his watch, a little boy went up to him and asked to be given another chance. The farmer looked at him and thought, “Why not? After all, this kid looks sincere enough. So the farmer sent the little boy back in the barn.

After a while the little boy came out with the watch in his hand! The farmer was both happy and surprised and so he asked the boy how he succeeded where the rest had failed.

The boy replied, “I did nothing but sit on the ground and listen. In the silence, I heard the ticking of the watch and just looked for it in that direction.

MORAL:

A peaceful mind can think better than a worked up mind. Allow a few minutes of silence to your mind every day, and see, how sharply it helps you to set your life the way you expect it to be…!..

Message For The Day….Devotion to God Is To be Like Divine Love…

Devotion to God is not to be calculated on the basis of the institutions one has started or helped, the temples one has built or renovated, the donations one has given, nor does it depend on the number of times one has written or recited the Names of the Lord, or the time and energy one spent in the worship of Lord. These are not vital – they are not even secondary! Devotion is Divine Love, unsullied by any tinge of desire for the benefit that flows from it or the fruit or consequence of that love. Love knows no particular reason for its manifestation. Divine Love is akin to the love of the river for the sea, the creeper for the tree, the spring for the cliff down which it flows. It is an unchanging loving attitude, a desirable bent of the mind, standing steady through joy and grief, ever sweet – in good times and bad!
