Instead of hitting passengers with flight delays, lost luggage dramas or other holiday horrors, an airline has provided a different kind of Christmas travel surprise.

Many are even calling it a Christmas “miracle”.

Canadian airline WestJet asked a group of 250 passengers at Toronto and Hamilton International Airports what they had on their Christmas wishlists via an interactive Santa Claus.

Requests ranged from underwear to a big-screen TV.

When the passenger boarded their flight, airline staff took off – but they didn’t join the passengers in the air, instead they dashed to the shopping centre.

More than 150 WestJet employees played the part of Santa’s elves by purchasing personalised gifts, wrapping them and getting them to the Calgary airport before the passenger landed.

The passengers were truly surprised when they made their way through baggage claim to find their dream gifts waiting for them.

The four-month-long project was turned into an ad for the airline.

WestJet announced they will also five away holiday flights to families in need if the video exceeded 200,000 views. It has achieved well over that, and is currently at over two million hits.

Message For the Day…” What is True Love ?”…

Today there are many who are highly educated. But what help are they rendering to society? Practically nothing! They are acquiring degrees for the sake of earning money. Modern students are taking to the wrong path in the name of love. They do not understand what true love is. People often use the word saying, “I love you, I love you.” You should be prepared to sacrifice for others all that is dear to you. That is true love. Love is God, live in love. Only then will you be able to understand the true nature of love. Do not misinterpret love in a worldly sense. Love is the gift of God to every individual. It should be utilized for the service of society. You must share your love with others through constructive service. Only then you will have the right to be a part of society.

Message For the Day…” Realise Brotherhood Of Man & Fatherhood of God ” …

What is true humanness? You should treat your fellowmen as your own brothers and sisters. You deserve to be called a human being only when you cultivate the spirit of unity. Where there is no unity, there you find enmity and hatred. Consequently, the principle of love is lost altogether. Your foremost duty is to share your love with others. Only then can you realise the dictum: ‘Brotherhood of man and fatherhood of God’. You may or may not believe in the fatherhood of God, but you must have faith in the brotherhood of man; practise it and experience bliss therefrom. It is only when we share our love with our fellowmen, can we experience Divinity.

Meet Sengai Podhuvan…”78 year old Poster Boy of Tamil Wikipedia ” !!!

As he lifts his left hand to type in front of his home PC, his fingers don’t keep pace with his mind.

Sengai Podhuvan, one of the oldest contributors of Tamil Wikipedia, has authored over 2,600 articles. His wife Sengai Selvi helps him with his work. Photo: Karthik Subramanian

“Look at that. The finger is trembling and refusing to listen to me,” Sengai Podhuvan, dressed in a blue T-shirt that sports logos of Tamil Wikipedia and a saffron dhoti, says. “Now I just have to wait for my hand to stabilise and type one letter at a time. It takes a while but I am used to it.”

The 78-year-old is an unlikely poster boy of the Tamil computing fraternity. Having authored over 2,600 articles in Tamil Wikipedia, Mr. Podhuvan is well known within the closed group of Tamil Wikipedia editors as the man who translated ‘Tolkappiyam,’ one of the oldest surviving Tamil works, into English for WikiSource.

He has also developed a new standard for transliteration of Tamil to English, using just the Roman alphabets available on regular keyboards. “I have avoided the use of diacritical marks and capitalisation. Instead, I have constructed the sounds of Tamil on a new standard that will allow any user to grasp the nuances of Tamil pronunciation,” he says.

Mr. Podhuvan, who types for five hours every day, has achieved all of these things despite having a degenerative neurological disorder. “It is most probably Parkinson’s and it is genetic. My mother had it and her mother before her,” he says.

He has refused medication because he feels that ultimately, it won’t matter, much to the chagrin of his wife, 71-year-old Sengai Selvi, his five children and his family doctor. Selvi supports Mr. Podhuvan through all of his chores at their home in Nanganallur, where the elderly couple live by themselves. Their four daughters are all married and live in different parts, while their son is in Canada.

Early affinity

Sengai Podhuvan’s love for Tamil started early. “I had studied only up to class VIII, but became a teacher when I learnt the government allowed those with at least three years of teaching experience to appear for SSLC exams,” he says, recalling the events of the early 1960s when he was in his 20s.

He continued in the teaching profession, earning subsequent degrees leading up to a PhD from Tiruchi Bharathidasan University, which he received just after retiring in 1994. His big break into the world of Tamil literature, however, started in 1971, when veteran Tamil scholar Dr. Mu. Va (Mu. Varadarajan) offered him a job as the editor of scholarly works for a project to record the ‘Authentic History of Tamilnadu’.

Mr. Podhuvan has also been the editor of sports journal ‘Tamizhar Vilayatu Madal’ brought out by the directorate of sports development during the Chief Ministership of M.G. Ramachandran.

His tryst with computers began in 2005, when he acquired his first PC and trained himself to be able to publish his own books. He has already published six books. “My ambition is to translate Sangam literature works — ‘Pathu Paatu’ and ‘Ettu Thogai’ — for Tamil Wikipedia,” he says.

Message For The Day…Love is God and God is Love …

Consider love as your life and truth as your breath. There is an intimate and inseparable relationship between love and truth. Today people use the word love without actually knowing its meaning. As they do not know the value and meaning of love, it is trivialized. People are under the mistaken notion that worldly and physical attachment is love and consider such love as large as life. True love will reign supreme only when you get rid of selfishness and develop the spirit of sacrifice. Love is God, God is love. But you are craving for worldly love which is bereft of life. You should aspire for Divine Love which is truly your very life. True spiritual discipline lies in connecting your love with Divine Love. Your life will be sanctified when you have such steady and selfless Divine Love.

Message For The Day..” Individual. Atma and Consciousness are One and the Same …

The Atmic consciousness that permeates every living being is referred to as Brahman. When it is individualised, it is called conscience. It is also referred to as Jiva. When the Atmic consciousness is encased in a body, it becomes an individual. The individual, the Atma and consciousness – all the three are one and the same. People think they are different because they are given different names. Remove the names, there is only one Consciousness in every individual. Supposing you name this object (showing a handkerchief) as Atma. It is a handkerchief in common parlance. I can call it threads or cotton. But essentially it is an object. Whatever name I may give, it refers to the same one object. There is only one Atmic consciousness in every individual. It has no form; it only assumes different forms.

Message For The Day…”Any Activity done with Business mind will not Make You Happy”…

Love is the eternal principle that is present in all. But people are expressing their love for selfish purposes. You should eschew selfishness and self-interest, and develop the spirit of sacrifice with courage and conviction. How can you become courageous? It is possible only when you practice righteousness (Dharma). Many noble persons have sacrificed their lives for the cause of Dharma and never craved for name and fame. Sacrifice (Thyaga) is true Yoga. You too should practice thisYoga and become deserving of Divine Grace. Any activity done with a business-mind will not make you happy. Enquire within yourself and develop the spirit of sacrifice. Only then there will be a transformation of heart. So long as you do not give up selfishness, you cannot achieve anything worthwhile in life. You should cast aside selfishness and cultivate selflessness.

“No One Is Perfect Including You “…

I bet we all have at least one person in our lives who we simply love beyond our own understanding but it is our ego which stops us to say 3 simple words , the 3 sweetest words , the 3 words in front of which all our anger and misunderstandings disappear .. Although we all know that when we die , we will not be able to take anything with our selves but still we all feed our ego well and always make sure that our ego is satisfied.. We are ready to sacrifice the ones who mean the world to us but to forget and forgive the stupid mistakes of our loved ones is just not an option for us– haven’t we all done that in our lives ? We are so confident of ourselves and our perfection that we believe that we are always right and thus can not make any mistakes. But unfortunately having that confidence is our biggest mistake.
Think about it !! No one is perfect including you !!
So the next time , your ego comes in between you and your loved one– do not let your ego win- let the love for your loved one cherish your life and make it perfect.

Message For the Day…” Remove Ego. Prideand Greed from Your Heart “…

To realize the truth of an Advent (Avatar), the aspirant must culture the mind as the farmer prepares the field. The farmer clears thorny undergrowth, wild creepers and tenuous roots from the field. Then, he ploughs the land, waters it and the seeds are sown. The seedlings and tender plants are then guarded from pests. To prevent destructions by goats and cattle, he erects a fence. So too, the aspirant must remove egoism, pride and greed from the heart. Truth, Repetition of the Lord’s Name and Meditation refer to ploughing and levelling. Love is the water that must flow into the field of your heart to make it fertile, soft and rich. Lord’s Name is the seed and devotion is the sprout. Protect the seeds from the cattle ofKama and Krodha (desire and anger) with the fence of discipline. Then you will reap bliss as the harvest.
