Madrid-based Spanish artist Fernando Vicente uses maps for more than geographical purposes. For his Atlas series, the creative illustrator paints on old maps, transforming countries and whole continents into people, animals, and skulls. The collection of acrylic paint portraits applied and integrated into each map, similar to the work of Ed Fairburn, gives the lands a new sense of life.
While cartography can be seen as an art in its own right, Vicente manages to transform each informative sheet into an interpretive piece. The images he adds to the maps are translucent enough to recognize the underlying contours of nations and the separation between ocean and land while simultaneously appreciating the artist’s ability to connect masses of land into one unified figure. His work presents an organic vision of the world, as though countries are not disconnected from one another and share a spirit guardian.

Images reflecting and spreading the message of Peace and Oneness …

Ramadan or Ramzan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar is also known as the month of fasting. It is a month of personal introspection, spiritual reflection with the fast beginning at dawn everyday and ending at sunset. After the evening prayers, the fast is broken (usually a community affair) with Iftar (the evening meal). Traditionally, the fast is broken by eating three dates in emulation and respect of Prophet Muhammad who broke his fast in this manner. Alternatively, breaking the fast with water is also another popular norm.
After a long weary day without food and water, the community looks forward to the evening meal with gusto. Iftar, thus, is not just a meal. It is a celebration. And a celebration centred around food that entices people from all communities to join in and savour the delicacies prepared specially for this month.

In the natural world, it’s every creature for itself – so it helps to have some killer moves in their armories.
These ring-tailed lemurs, red-eyed tree frogs and even a domestic cat show exactly how to deal with an animal opponent.
The leaping lemurs, who live at Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire, enjoyed a friendly scrap after waking up from a nap.

After locking eyes, they both launched into high kicks as their tussle began.
They performed jumps, spins and tried to pin each other down during the aerial display before calling a truce and rejoining their troop.
Longleat keeper Dan Gray said: ‘It’s like one of those choreographed fight scenes in a martial arts movie, the only thing that’s lacking is the thwacking sound effects.
Lemurs are incredibly playful and can often be spotted leaping through the air and sparring with each other.
‘They are incredibly agile creatures and sometimes they even appear to be doing acrobatic stunts.

They aren’t the only creatures who can use their incredible jumping abilities to their advantage in a fight.
These two red-eyed tree frogs, photographed in Indonesia, showed how leapfrog is really done when they put their webbed feet up for a fight.

Even at full stretch as it reached out to bash its companion, one looked to be outdone by the other’s ability to jump to the skies.
Misha, a blue British Shorthair cat, looked to be emulating the frog by stretching to her full height to try to catch a butterfly.
Her owner Kemal Selimovic, 47, captured the eight-year-old jumping eight inches off the ground in pursuit of the pretty tortoiseshell butterfly that was tantalisingly out of reach.
Mr Selimovic said: ‘Misha always likes to try to catch insects.
‘This time she made a leap and by pure luck the camera caught her wonderful expression of absolute concentration.

She tries to focus before the jump but all the while she is dancing to catch the insect.
‘Misha is our little girl but her teeth and claws are showing, letting us know that her instincts are intact.
‘Like most cat owners my partner and I are slightly silly about her and truly enjoy her and her captivating personality.
‘She rules the garden and we call her attempts to catch insects “Mission Impossibles” as she never gets lucky.’

A bold bruin not only ransacked a dumpster outside a Colorado Springs restaurant on Wednesday, it pulled the garbage bin 50 feet into the parking lot and flipped it over so it could better access the dinner spot’s signature schnitzel.
The hungry bear has been caught red pawed on security camera making repeat visits to the back door of the Edelweiss Restaurant.
But on this particularly visit, the six-foot tall beast was so peckish, it passes right by the recycling bin and goes straight for the restaurant’s leftover food. And after a quick dig around, it wheels the entire container away with it, to facilitate better dumpster-diving.
According to The Denver Post, The Edelweiss’ signature dish is rouladen — top round steak pounded and rolled, stuffed with bacon, mustard, onions and pickle; covered in a dark gravy and accompanied by red cabbage and fried potatoes.

Delicious: The hungry bear, pictured, has been caught red pawed on security camera making repeat visits to the back door of the Edelweiss Restaurant
The restaurant’s manager Dieter Schnakenberg said he wasn’t surprised the delicious leftover fare was luring the animal.
‘There’s some fresh, really good food’ attracting the bear,’ he told The Post. ‘She passes up the recycling bin and goes right for the good stuff.’

Look out: The bear, pictured, has a quick scout for any restaurant workers

Yum: The bear passes by the recycling and heads straight for the bin full of leftovers
The bear enjoyed his German feast so much that it returned for another meal early Thursday. It has also left other dumpsters up-ended in the mostly residential neighborhood.
Schnakenberg said he has warned staff to be careful as they go to and from the bins.
Concerned, he said the restaurant was ‘going to have to do something’ to stop the bear visits.

Huge: Standing on its hind legs, the hungry bear is over six-foot.

Diving: The bear flips the lid of the garbage bin before digging around inside
He is considering chaining the bins to a nearby fence or locking the lid to thwart the repeat offender.
Officials with Colorado Parks and Wildlife agree securing the dumpster and hoping the bear doesn’t come back is the best approach.
If it does return, wildlife officers may have to tag and relocate it and, as a last resort, it may be euthanized.
Hopefully, the bear’s gourmet palate won’t result in such drastic measures.

Better access: The bruin, pictured, then gets irritated and pulls the bin out into the open

Parking lot: The restauranteurs discovered the bin tipped and near empty in the parking lot 50 feet away after the bear’s feast
