” Any one of us Can be a God to Somebody …”

A group of fifteen soldiers led by their Major Sahib were on their way to the post in Himalayas where they would be deployed for next three months. Another batch, which will be relieved, would be waiting anxiously for their arrival so that they could fall back to safer confines of their parent unit. Some would proceed on leave and meet their families. They were happy that they were to relieve a set of comrades who had done their job.

It was a treacherous climb and the journey was to last till the next evening. Cold winter with intermittent snowfall added to the torture.

If only someone could offer a cup of tea, the Major thought, knowing completely well that it was a futile wish.

They continued for another hour before they came across a dilapidated structure which looked like a small shop. It was locked.

It was 2 o’clock in the night and there was no house close to the shop where the owner could be located. In any case it was not advisable to knock any doors in the night for security reasons.

It was a stalemate. “No tea boys, bad luck” said the Major.

The Major told the men to take some rest since they had been walking for more than three hours now.

Sir, this is a tea shop indeed and we can make tea. We will have to break the lock though.

The officer was in doubt about the proposed action but a steaming cup of  tea was not a bad idea. He thought for a while and permitted for the lock to be broken. The lock was broken.

They were in luck.

The place was a shop indeed and had everything required for preparing tea, and also a few packets of biscuits.

The tea was prepared and it brought great relief to all in the cold night. They were now ready for the long and treacherous walk ahead of them and started to get ready to move.

The officer was in thought. They had broken open the lock and prepared tea and consumed biscuits without the permission of the owner. The payment was due but there was no one in sight. But they are not a band of thieves. They are disciplined soldiers.

The Major didn’t move out without doing what needed to be done. He took out a Rs. 1000/- note from his wallet and kept it on the counter, pressed under the sugar container, so that the owner sees it
first thing when he arrives in the morning.

He was now relieved of the guilt and ordered the move.

Days, weeks and months passed. They continued to do gallantly what they were required to do and were lucky not to lose any one from the group in the intense insurgency situation.

And then one day, it was time to be replaced by another brave lot.Soon they were on their way back and stopped at the same shop, which was today open with the owner in place. He was an old man with very meager resources and was happy to see fifteen of them with the prospect of selling at least fifteen cups of tea that day.

All of them had their tea and spoke to the old man about his life and experiences in general, selling tea at such remote a location. The poor, old man had many stories to tell all of them, replete with his
faith in God.

“Oh, Baba, If God is there, why should He keep you in such a poverty?”
said one of them; moved by his poverty and faith in God.

“Do not say like that Sahib ! God actually exists. I got the proof a few months ago.

“I was going through very tough times because my only son had been severely beaten by the terrorists who wanted some information from him which he did not have. I had closed the shop early that day and had taken my son to the hospital. There were medicines to be purchased and I had no money. No one would give me a loan from fear of the terrorists. There was no hope, Sahib.

“And that day Sahib, I had prayed to God for help. And Sahib, God walked into my shop that day.

“When I returned to my shop that day and saw the lock broken, I thought someone had broken in and had taken away whatever little I had. But then I saw that God had left Rs. 1000/- under the sugar
pot.Sahib, I can’t tell you what that money was worth that day. God exists Sahib, He does.

“I know people are dying every day here but all of you will soon meet your near and dear ones, your children, and you must thank your God Sahib, he is watching all of us. He does exist. He walked in to my shop that day and broke open the lock to give me the money I desperately needed. I know He did it.”

The faith in his eyes was unflinching. It was unnerving. Fifteen sets of eyes looked at their officer and read the order in his eyes clear and unambiguous, ‘Keep quiet.’

The officer got up and paid the bill and hugged the old man.

“Yes Baba, I know, God does exist – and yes the tea was wonderful.”

Fifteen pairs of eyes did not miss the moisture building in the eyes of the Major, a rare sight.

And the real truth is that any one of us can be a God to somebody.

Joke of the Day… “Why They Were Fighting Each Other over 25 cents…”!!!

A guy took his girl friend to her first Longhorn football game. They had great seats right behind their team’s bench. After the game, he asked her how she liked the experience. “Oh, I really liked it,” she replied,

“Especially the tight pants and all the big muscles, but I just couldn’t understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents.”

Dumbfounded, her date asked, “What do you mean?”

“Well, I saw them flip a coin and one team got it and then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was: get the quarterback. Get the quarterback! It’s only 25 cents!

bharathi“”வீதிதோறும் இரண்டொரு பள்ளி;
நாடு முற்றிலும் உள்ள வூர்கள்
நகர்களெங்கும் பலபல பள்ளி;

Joke of the Day…” Can You Guess my Age ” !!!

Andy’s wife, refusing to give in to the looks of growing old, goes out and buys a new line of expensive cosmetics guaranteed to make her look years younger.
After a lengthy sitting before the mirror applying the “miracle” products, she asks her husband – “Darling, honestly, if you didn’t know me, what age would you say I am?”
Looking over her carefully, Andy replied,…

“Judging from your skin, twenty;

your hair, eighteen;
and your figure, twenty five.
“Oh, you flatterer!” she gushed. Just as she was about to tell Andy his reward, he stops her by saying:  “WHOA, hold on there sweety…
I haven’t added them up yet!

Message for the Day…” God alone Loves You without Expecting Anything in Return…”

Not by work or wealth or progeny, but only by sacrifice can one attain immortality. All the scriptures explain the value of sacrifice. Understand its inner significance and practice it. Devotion should not be confined to visiting temples and saluting God therein. Devotion exists everywhere. Wherever you sit, you can utter the Name of the Lord. There is no place without Love, Love exists everywhere. Some love their mother or father, others their wife or children. There are yet others who love God. Loving God alone is true devotion. The love for any worldly person can at best be selfish – there is no one who loves another person without a selfish reason. God alone loves you without selfishness, expecting nothing in return. Therefore develop faith and devotion to God.

T.Nagar Chennai… India”s Biggest Shopping District !!!

  • This 6km  long  stretch has …..
Just like many of its shoppers,Theagaraya Nagar-reputed to be the biggest shopping district in India by revenue-could be heading for a much-needed makeover, giving national retailers a chance to set up shop alongside established regional players in this much sought-after area.

For long, this 6 km-long stretch has been the heart of shopping not only for Tamil Nadu, but also the whole of South India.

By some estimates, the shops in T Nagar-a majority of them selling textiles or gold jewelry-are together hitting revenues of nearly 20,000 crore every year. The official estimates put it much lower at over Rs 10,000 crore, but this is still double that of New Delhi’s Connaught Place, Linking Road in Mumbai and Bangalore’s Brigade Road which clock Rs 4,000-6,000 crore.

This has led to retailers flocking to this area, resulting in buildings with poor planning and facilities. The scene on the roads is worse; traffic jams are the norm and even on a lean day about 2 lakh pedestrians traverse the roads around Panagal Park, the central part of T Nagar.

“It’s the mecca of retail,” said India’s largest retailer Kishore Biyani of Future Group, which has over 17 million square feet of retail space in the country and more than two dozen brands. But it still hasn’t managed to open a single door at the main T Nagar junction. “We are working on a strategy for Chennai and you can’t ignore T Nagar. But getting space there has always been the only issue.”

It is to address such concerns that the city’s municipal corporation has tied up with real estate advisory firm Jones Lang LaSalle to work out a proposal to redevelop the area and make shopping there a more pleasant experience.

But at the same time they want to preserve what is good. “There are old shopping buildings that have become a heritage and we want to preserve that,” said A Shankar, local director of strategic consulting at Jones Lang LaSalle. Some of the suggestions to improve the area include creating a plaza for the hawkers and building skywalks connecting the nearest railway station and bus stand.

Other ideas are constructing multi-level parking lots and ‘pedestrianisation’ of the retail core area around Panagal Park, where about a million shoppers crowd during festivals and other busy periods.

It would be hard for a visitor today to T Nagar-named after one of the founders of the Justice Party, a precursor to other Dravidian parties-to believe that less than a hundred years ago it was all paddy fields. Nalli’s was the first showroom to appear in 1928 and soon other establishments followed.

“Nalli started as a baby here and now it has spread its roots to others parts of the country. This first store is what helped the firm grow to what it is today and venture into newer areas like jewellery,” Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty said in a recent meeting with ET.

Though the five radial roads that lead to Panagal Park are wide, the pace of T Nagar’s growth took everyone, including the authorities, by surprise. Buildings mushroomed rapidly and the area soon became as popular for its congestion as for its wares.

Message For the Day…” You Must Study to Become Steady …”

What is the objective of ‘studying’? You must study to become steady. When you have a steady mind, you can prosper. Your mind should not move like the pendulum of a clock. See to it that the Divine Love in your heart is steady. The goal of education should not be to just acquire theoretical knowledge but to practically apply it in your life. Your education should be for life and not for a mere living. Birds and animals lead life without ‘studying’, but your education must result in you developing a strong and good character. In this life, the only high aspiration you must have is for God. Many people collect a lot of information from newspapers and other sources, trying to find out what happened in Germany, USA, etc. These are good to know, but not very important. The aim of education should be to concentrate your mind onto a higher ideal and not merely to become like a library which is a conglomeration of all kinds of facts.

Joke of the Day …” Cup Holder is Broken …” !!!

True story from a Novell NetWire SysOp:

Caller: “Hello, is this Tech Support?”

Tech: “Yes, it is. How may I help you?”

Caller: “The cup holder on my PC is broken and I am within my warranty period.

How do I go about getting that fixed?”

Tech: “I’m sorry, but did you say a cup holder?”

Caller: “Yes, it’s attached to the front of my computer.”

Tech: “Please excuse me if I seem a bit stumped. It’s because I am.

Did you receive this as part of a promotional, at a trade show? How did you get this cup holder? Does it have any trademark on it?”

Caller: “It came with my computer, I don’t know anything about a promotional.

It just has ‘4X’ on it. “At this point the Tech Rep had to mute the caller, because

he couldn’t stand it. The caller had been using the load drawer of the CD-ROM

drive as a cup holder, and snapped it off the drive!…
