Cargo Loader Yesterday…. CEO Today !!! Meet Sudheer Nair !!!

Sudheer Nair, CEO, Eresource Infotech Pvt Ltd

Sudheer Nair dropped out of high school at age 16 and is currently operating Eresource Infotech whose annual turnover is Rs 8.1 crore. Read on to know his inspiring journey to success…

Necessity is the mother of invention, adversity must be the father of entrepreneurship.

For Sudheer Nair, founder and CEO of Eresource Infotech, adversity brought out the best in him.

That coupled with sheer grit and conviction has helped him lead a Rs 8.1 crore ERP firm today.

Sudheer’s is a classic tale of rags-to-riches.

He comes from a lower middle class family, and does not have any ivy-league credentials attached to his name.

He had to discontinue his education at the age of 16, due to the sudden demise of his father and the ensuing financial difficulties.

The situation forced him to search for jobs to support his family.

Initially he ended up doing odd jobs, which included that of a helper’s job at Sahar Cargo Complex, Mumbai. But the enthusiasm he had towards life and the wish to progress, has made him what he is today.

On a few occasions, documentations were required at the Cargo Complex and that was Nair’s introduction to the typewriter, eventually transforming him into an expert typist.

Next, he took up the job of typing programmes for a programmer and looking at his ability to learn fast, Nair was given an opportunity to learn computers.

Gradually, he started generating software codes independently for the company.

Nair loved what he was doing and that helped him learn the subject at a deeper level.

Someone has said that when god is shy to announce HIS presence, HE appears in the form of an opportunity. That opportunity was given to me, when somebody asked me to type Bill of Lading at Sahar Cargo complex. You need to start from somewhere. Dr Abdul Kalam started his career as a newspaper boy. Once you have the determination and will power you always move forward. I took the loading job because my family’s financial situation demanded that. It was a short stint. I knew I had to move out. Life must be like a flowing river. I believe in that and am still living with that spirit,” says Nair of the beliefs and situations that have shaped his life.

The entrepreneur never enrolled for any formal course in computers, but says he was extremely lucky and blessed to have met incredibly talented people in his life and had the privilege to hang out with them.

“I did not know any technical people and had zero guidance when I started my career. I would ruthlessly read through technical books. I spent hundreds of hours reading and practicing programmes,” says Nair while recollecting his days of struggle.

His entry into the field of ERP was also by chance.

While working with Afternoon, a daily in Mumbai, he had developed a smaller version of ERP for the daily.

That gave him the confidence to start on his own and ERP was his obvious choice to start up with.

But before he did that, Nair worked for 15 years in Dubai as a software professional.

He started as a software developer and was the Senior Enterprise Manager, when he quit.

“It was a 400-million-dollar company and I was working on enterprise solution. You learn a lot in the process,” he says.

When he started Eresource Infotech in 2006, the ERP market was worth $14 billion and Sudheer saw enough opportunity in the space.

“The urge to do things on my own was getting on my head and that feeling forced me to quit my job in Dubai and start-up,” he says.

Sudheer started by bootstrapping and with the support of Vivek Jingade, who now heads the sales and marketing for Eresource Infotech, began his entrepreneurial journey.

“Vivek has been with Eresource since inception and without him we could not have achieved what we are today,” Nair says in praise of Jingade.

Sudheer Nair started with a small team and today Eresource has over 100 employees, across a variety of functions.

He says he never had any problem in finding talent, even as a start-up.

“I don’t think there is any shortage of talent in Mumbai. What is important is the selection process — getting the best from the lot,” he says.

Today the company has over 300 clients and about 25,000 users on Eresource ERP.

A majority of their clients are from India, particularly Mumbai and Northern states; they also have many clients in the Middle East and few other Asian countries.

The biggest player in the ERP space is SAP followed by Oracle, so Sudheer decided they would try and play the cloud card.

“We have everything that our competitors can offer, and while some of their solutions may still reside on a local server, Eresource is 100 per cent web based ERP solution. Our competitors don’t really care about localisation, but we make sure our solutions can cater to requirements needed as per Indian statutory and regulatory needs,” explains Sudheer.

Eresource is now launching ‘eresource ExV2’ (eresource Express Version 2) — a new release of Eresource.

“Eresource ExV2 will have compatibility with hand held device, mobile and would be technology independent,” he shares.

Eresource currently works with about 80 to 90 channel partners where 8 are affiliate partners, while the rest are referral partners.

Their customers love them because they undertake the entire implementation and post deployment activities and responsibilities.

“We engage with our customers at great lengths to understand their requirement and then accordingly package the solution and deploy it. This has resulted in zero failure rates,” Nair proudly claims.

The company is looking at appointing partners in each geographic region and has plans to appoint about 30 channel partners, which will help them scale up.

Looking back at his journey, Nair admits it’s hardly been a bed of roses: “I cannot pin-point the difficulties I have faced to set up this company. There are numerous.”

Though financial problems are on top of list, he considers his biggest capital to be the talent at Eresource.

Over the years, Eresource has won many prestigious industrial awards, including the Udyog Rattan Award and Business Excellence Award for the year 2008.

They were also conferred the Business Leadership Award by Institute of Industrial Development, New Delhi. And the venture has been recently rated by NSIC-CRISIL and awarded SE 3B.

As for the formal education that he couldn’t complete, the entrepreneur says he reads a lot.

“I am getting myself educated through my experience. And that is the best education you can ever get,” he sums up.

What a Cool Idea To Beat The Heat !!!!

China is in the midst of a brutal heatwave right now, but some parents have found a way to help their little ones beat the heat: watermelon.

Only, they’re not eating them – they’re wearing them.

A trend started in July in the Wenzhou region of the country when photos of a kid dressed in a watermelon suit started making the rounds on the Internet.

High fashion: The watermelon suit trend popped up in July when this photo went viral in China
Keeping cool: Fans of the watermelon suits say they're an eco-friendly way for babies to beat the heat

Variety: People have made watermelon suits to resemble warrior outfits, armor, hula skirts and even bikinis

The reaction to the suits has been relatively positive across China, with people commenting on various blog sites about how the suits are an ‘eco-friendly’ way to cool down kids in the blistering heat.

One potential problem, however, is that babies have very sensitive skin. And while watermelon allergies are rare, the juice from the watermelon against a baby’s skin could cause some irritation.

Another potential issue is wearing the suit for too long. Watermelons rinds are moist, and as they rot they could breed bacteria and germs.

Incredible Paintings on Maps…An Organic Vision of the World !!!

Madrid-based Spanish artist Fernando Vicente uses maps for more than geographical purposes. For his Atlas series, the creative illustrator paints on old maps, transforming countries and whole continents into people, animals, and skulls. The collection of acrylic paint portraits applied and integrated into each map, similar to the work of Ed Fairburn, gives the lands a new sense of life.

While cartography can be seen as an art in its own right, Vicente manages to transform each informative sheet into an interpretive piece. The images he adds to the maps are translucent enough to recognize the underlying contours of nations and the separation between ocean and land while simultaneously appreciating the artist’s ability to connect masses of land into one unified figure. His work presents an organic vision of the world, as though countries are not disconnected from one another and share a spirit guardian.

” A Flight To Moon ” !!!

Astonishing photographs taken by a French photograph have created the illusion that a cargo of air passengers are off to a very exotic location… the Moon.

Photographer Sebastien Lebrigand, 38, took the striking shots as he walked alone under the night sky.

Mr Lebrigand, a father-of-two, said the aeroplanes looked ‘so close’ to the Moon as the Airberlin and Condor planes flew from the Balearic Islands, in Spain, to Germany.

Mr Lebrigand, an electrician’s mate, said: ‘It was a still night and the Moon was rising, almost full.

‘I find it fascinating that the planes appear so close to the Moon, but yet so far – much like we are on earth, in relation to the rest of the Universe.

‘To me, pictures are beautiful when they are unusual, and these are no different.’

He captured the images near his home in Crepy-en-Valois, near Paris in France, using a special lens designed for astrophotography.

He said: ‘What I’ve managed to capture is more or less what one would see with a telescope.’

He used a Canon EOS 500D and an i-Nova EDTF 102 Triplet optical instrument.

Mr Lebrigand added: ‘These photos are unusual and difficult to make but I enjoy it as I am a devoted observer of the sky.

‘It fascinates me. As I watched the planes, I thought about all the different people on board, flying all those miles above earth.’

” Magic Farming “…Magical Touch Of a Single Man in Transforming his Village !!!!

Shreekant KushwahaShreekant Kushwaha says his only mission in life is to promote organic farming

A farmer in the northern Indian state of Bihar is using magic shows to promote organic farming, Amarnath Tewary reports from Govindpur village in Muzaffarpur district.

Shreekant Kushwaha, in his late 40s, is a farmer who is a trained magician and has been using his skills to convince farmers in the state to convert to organic farming methods.

In the last few years, he has conducted more than 1,000 magic shows and converted thousands of farmers to organic farming to “increase both their yield and incomes”.

“Magic and farming are both science and need use of hands for their execution. Both become obsolete if denied new tricks,” he says.

Most of his magic shows begin with some popular trick like making a small ball vanish into air, or pulling a pigeon out of a hat.

“Once I’ve grabbed the attention of the crowd, I go for the real thing,” he says.

“I show them two boxes and tell them that one box has seeds with organic fertiliser while the other has seeds with synthetic fertiliser. Then I put a lid over both the boxes and say let’s see which grows faster.

“When the lid is lifted, the seeds treated with organic fertiliser seem to have grown into small plants but those treated with synthetic fertiliser have not grown at all,” he says.

“And then I explain why and how it is done.”

Fortunes changed

He says most among the audience return home convinced that organic is the way to go.

Mr Kushwaha himself learnt the benefits of organic farming in 2001 from a training camp held in his village by a non-governmental organisation.

Shreekant KushwahaMr Kushwaha says moving to organic farming changed his fortunes

He says moving to organic farming changed his fortunes: he grows rice, wheat and more recently, medicinal plants on his farm and yields are high.

Once a poor farmer who could not even afford two daily meals for his family, he now owns a double-storey house, has a beautiful kitchen garden with decorative lights and flowers, a cow, a colour television, a computer and printer and a motorbike.

“I couldn’t go to school, but I sent my children to school for a proper education,” he says.

“It was all made possible once I started organic farming on my two-acre plot of agricultural land,” he says.

“And, now my only mission in life is to promote organic farming.”

The idea to promote organic farming with magic shows came to him in 2003 when “at a village agriculture fair I saw a magician pulling in the crowds for his shows and keeping them interested for well over an hour with his tricks”.

“But when I approached the magician, he refused to teach me any tricks.”

‘Magic spell’

Mr Kushwaha did not lose hope and went to meet Ram Ratan Sharma, a famous magician in his area.

While he farmed his land during the day, he learnt magic at night, picking up more than 500 tricks in two years.

“The villagers and even my own family members said I was mad but I kept on,” he says.

In 2005, Mr Kushwaha conducted over two dozen magic shows in his village to convince farmers of the benefits of organic farming.

A year later, Govindpur – a village of 150 households with a population of over 1,200 – was declared the first organic village in the state by the Bihar government.

Soon, the government-run State Bank of India adopted the village to provide all facilities to the farmers as they moved to organic farming.

An unlettered farmer who could barely write his name in Hindi, Mr Kushwaha has now been felicitated by several institutions, politicians and local organisations for his “unique experiment of farming with magic”.

Shreekant KushwahaIn the last few years, Mr Kushwaha has conducted more than 1,000 magic shows

Today, he gives tips to farmers on how to make organic fertiliser to increase the soil fertility and better their yield.

Farmers Shankar Ram and Rajdeo Singh are all praise for Mr Kushwaha who has done the village proud with his sheer “dedication and determination to convert all of us to organic farming”.

Says agriculture expert UK Sharma: “Mr Kushwaha has cast his magic spell on the farmers of the area.”

At present though, Mr Kushwaha is worried about the depleting number of cows and buffaloes in the village which, he says, may hamper the move towards organic farming. Cow dung and urine provide valuable fertiliser for organic farming.

“Cattle rearing has become quite expensive these days so many people are moving away from it and migrating from villages to find jobs in the cities,” he says. “But then, there is always a new trick in science and magic.”
