The Invisible Artist !!!

Chinese artist Liu Bolin is known as the “invisible man” and the “human chameleon” — just take one close look at his work, and you’ll see why. One very close look. See him? Liu has gained international fame for his photographs, which usually feature him painstakingly painted to blend into street scenes or other complex backgrounds.

The work takes hours, with assistants painting the most intricate details onto Liu’s body and clothes, all while the artist tries to remain perfectly still. But Liu’s extreme dedication to his craft has paid off. His artwork regularly fetches five figures, and one (a photo of Liu painted into a mural of Chinese dragons) even sold for more than that…

Liu himself describes what he does NOT as blending into the background, but he explains it as letting the background, the place, take over him, and blend with him, taking into himself the spirit of the place. So he is not trying to hide, but surrenders himself to the place itself…

Thrilling Facts…. Determination and Persistence

This is a real life story of an engineer who build the Brooklyn Bridge in New York, USA.

In 1883, a creative engineer named John Roebling was inspired by an idea to build a spectacular bridge connecting New York with the Long Island. However bridge building experts throughout the world thought that this was an impossible feat and told Roebling to forget the idea. It just could not be done. It was not practical. It had never been done before.

Roebling could not ignore the vision he had in his mind of this bridge. He thought about it all the time and he knew deep in his heart that it could be done. He just had to share the dream with someone else. After much discussion and persuasion he managed to convince his son Washington, an upcoming engineer, that the bridge in fact could be built.

Working together for the first time, the father and son developed concepts of how it could be accomplished and how the obstacles could be overcome. With great excitement and inspiration, and the headiness of a wild challenge before them, they hired their crew and began to build their dream bridge.
The project started well, but when it was only a few months underway a tragic accident on the site took the life of John Roebling. Washington was also injured and left with a certain amount of brain damage, which resulted in him not being able to talk or walk.

“People thought.” “Crazy men and their crazy dreams.” “It’s foolish to chase wild visions.”

Everyone had a negative comment to make and felt that the project should be scrapped since the Roebling’s were the only ones who knew how the bridge could be built. In spite of his handicap Washington was never discouraged and still had a burning desire to complete the bridge and his mind was still as sharp as ever. He tried to inspire and pass on his enthusiasm to some of his friends, but they were too daunted by the task.

As he lay on his bed in his hospital room, with the sunlight streaming through the windows, a gentle breeze blew the flimsy white curtains apart and he was able to see the sky and the tops of the trees outside for just a moment. It seemed that there was a message for him not to give up. Suddenly an idea hit him. All he could do was move one finger and he decided to make the best use of it. By moving this, he slowly developed a code of communication with his wife. He touched his wife’s arm with that finger, indicating to her that he wanted her to call the engineers again. Then he used the same method of tapping her arm to tell the engineers what to do. It seemed foolish but the project was under way again. For 13 years Washington tapped out his instructions with his finger on his wife’s arm, until the bridge was finally completed. Today the spectacular Brooklyn Bridge stands in all its glory as a tribute to the triumph of one man’s indomitable spirit and his determination not to be defeated by circumstances. It is also a tribute to the engineers and their team work, and to their faith in a man who was considered mad by half the world. It stands too as a tangible monument to the love and devotion of his wife who for 13 long years patiently decoded the messages of her husband and told the engineers what to do. The Brooklyn Bridge shows us that dreams that seem impossible can be realized with determination and persistence, no matter what the odds are. Often when we face obstacles in our day-to-day life, our hurdles seem very small in comparison to what many others have to face.

Concluding thought: Persistence is the iron quality of success; if you persist long enough you must eventually succeed where no handicap can keep you from achieving your goal.

Self Confidence Vs Ego

There is a thin line dividing confidence and ego. Most of the time we get confused and fail to decide whether we are on the right track or our ego is dominating in the guise of confidence. When ego dominates every success turns into failure. One has to be very careful about it. How to distinguish between confidence and ego?-

A man of confidence says that he can do the work and others can also do it; where as a man of ego says that he alone can do it and nobody else can.

A man of confidence always try to encourage and help others in building their confidence, whereas a man of ego tries to curb and discourage others when they try to come up in life.

A man of confidence always attracts people. Even the weak feel confident and elevated in his company. Where as an egoistic person creates repulsion in the minds of people who try to avoid him because of his boastful nature.

A man of confidence appreciates the success of others and shares happiness with them. Whereas a man of ego discourages and humiliates others and feels jealous of the success of others.

There is a joy in working with people of confidence because they are always cheerful and can mix with everybody. In the presence of egoistic people even the man of confidence feel an inferiority complex. They feel nervous to work them.

A man of confidence always commands love and respect whereas a man of ego always demands and expects love and respect.
Confident people are always successful in every field of life because they can conquer the hearts of all by putting their faith and confidence in others and receive all help and cooperation from colleagues and friends. A man of ego always suffers setbacks and failures loosing men and power because of his arrogant approach which adds only to his worries and tensions.

In one word a man of self confidence puts his faith in the inner most Divine self, the source of all power and energy and also feels presence of Divine in everyone while dealing with them whereas the ego-centric person puts his faith only in his mental and intellectual abilities and skills, forgetting the Divine, which operates through mind and intellect out of ignorance. He applies the same standards while dealing with others. He is only aware of the weaknesses and drawbacks and never realizes that the perfect Divine is hidden behind these superficial appearances, which can be awakened by constant training and positive approach.

The temptation to ignore Dharma grows from egoism and the acceptance of false values. The wish to satisfy the lower desire is the root of adharma (unrighteousness). This wish takes hold of you slyly, pretending to be a comrade come to save you, or like a servant come to attend on you, or like a counsellor come to warn you. Wickedness has a thousand tricks to capture your heart. You must be ever alert against the temptation; you often remind others of Dharma when you desire to squeeze some advantage from them. You must remember not only the rights that Dharma confers but also the duties it imposes.

‘My mum’s doing the shopping’ !!!!

A photo of a baby inside a locked car outside a New Zealand supermarket has sparked outrage online.

The photo was taken outside Porirua Pak ‘n Save on Saturday morning, the New Zealand Herald reported.

The photo shows a newborn baby wrapped in a blanket in a car seat, with a note on the blanket saying to call if there are any issues.

A mobile phone number is on the note.

 

A man who spoke to the Herald said he saw the baby and the note after he and his family parked next to it.

“It was written from the baby’s perspective, and it said, ‘My mum’s in doing the shopping, call her if I need anything’, and it had the cellphone number.

“We waited there for a little bit, wondering if the mum was just going to be two seconds and come back. And my wife said, ‘I’m not going in without someone being here with the baby’,” the man told the Herald.

The photo was posted on radio personality Polly Gillespie’s Facebook page and triggered many heated responses.

Commenter Cat Marie Horne wrote: “I’m sorry this is completely irresponsible! You do not leave children under the age of 14 unsupervised at all.

“Why did she have time to write a note?? Secondly, you do not put a capsule seat in the front of a car, due to dashboard airbags. Also, if you are that tired you should not be driving.”

There were more than 1100 comments on the post, with many outraged at the incident, but many felt sympathy for the mother involved.

Linda Gill wrote:”It was in Porirua, according to the original Facebook post… and it’s not something I would have done but I choose not to come on here and condemn her.

“It’s very easy to come on here and cast judgement on others, because I’m sure you’ve never, ever done anything wrong in your lives.

“The difference is someone took a photo this time. Aren’t you all glad that someone isn’t following you around with a camera. (Aimed at no one in particular, just food for thought).”

Porirua Pak ‘n Save compliance manager Marty Fryer said he didn’t know what had happened until somebody rang him about it yesterday.

“It’s not really an issue we deal with normally, although we get all sorts of things going on out here.

“We have staff in the carpark so if they saw something like a baby in a car they would bring it to our attention,” he said.

It is illegal for a parent or guardian to leave a child under the age of 14 alone for an unreasonable time or in unreasonable conditions. Doing so could result in a fine of up to $2000.
