Message For The Day….Learn to Make The Best Of Life Thro Spiritual Flight !!!!

The mood and behaviour of people in cinema halls, marriage halls, exhibitions or while watching a game is very different from that of a spiritual gathering! The mood during entertainment is very different as the crowd there are moved by totally different impulses. However, in a gathering devoted to the needs of the spirit, what is expected is calm, reverential and eager attention, prayerful silence. Silence is most needed in all spiritual gatherings where deeper spiritual disciplines are discussed. Only the eye and the ear need function, the tongue has no business to wag. Everyone then will be able to receive completely, the gift of love and grace. Learn to make the best of life, this chance offered to you to sublimate your instincts, impulses and impressions on the mind from past deeds (Vasanas) and rise higher and higher in the moral and spiritual plane.

Indonesia Installing Goddess Saraswathi Statue @ Massachusetts !!!

From David McAuley. Email him at david[AT]borderstan.com.

Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 2B, at its monthly meeting last night, April 10, unanimously supported a request by the Embassy of Indonesia to erect a statue of a Hindu goddess on public space on Massachusetts Avenue NW. It also unanimously called on DC’s Historic Preservation Office (HPO) to improve its operating procedures and communication both with ANCs and with the public.

Statue of Saraswati on Public Space

The Commission heard a presentation by Heru Subolo, Minister-Counselor for Press and Information Affairs of the Embassy of Indonesia, asking for ANC support for a proposed statue of Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, arts and science, to be erected on a public space next to the grounds of the Embassy at2020 Massachusetts Avenue NW.

Subolo told the committee that the statue had been approved by the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Foreign Missions. Subolo also said that the planned site for the statue had been moved, at the request of the DC government’s Historic Preservation Office (HPO), from its original planned location at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and 21st Street (also adjacent to the Embassy), to a location next to the sidewalk further west along Massachusetts.

The location is currently fenced in. Subolo said that the fence would be removed to make the statue accessible to the public.

“I’m really happy to open up a fenced space,” said Kevin O’Connor, ANC commissioner for district 2B-02.

“This is a wonderful addition to our neighborhood and to our nation’s capital. Hindus across DC and around the world are ecstatic about this beautiful statue of Saraswati. It is so fitting that it will be installed just a stone’s throw from the also magnificent statue of Mahatma Gandhi — the only statue of a Hindu in DC,” said Kishan Putta, ANC 2B-04 commissioner.

World”s Fastest Super Computer @ China !!!

China’s Tianhe-2 is now the world’s fastest super computer, with speeds reaching up to 30.65 petaflops; 74 percent faster than the current record holder Cray XK7 system-based Titan at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the US, according to a report by Ars Technica.

What makes it more amazing is that, the supercomputer wasn’t even running to its full capacity during the test. A five-hour Linpack test using 14,336 out of 16,000 compute nodes, or 90 percent of the machine, clocked in at 30.65 petaflops. The benchmarks are used to rank the Top 500 supercomputers in the world. The previous title holder, Titan, hit 17.59 petaflops. Tianhe-2 achieved 1.935 gigaflops per watt, which is slightly less efficient than Titan’s 2.143 gigaflops per watt.

Tianhe-2’s numbers were revealed this week in a paper by University of Tennessee professor Jack Dongarra, who created the Linpack benchmarks and helps compile the bi-annual Top 500 list.

Tianhe-2 is being assembled and tested at China’s National University for Defense Technology (NUDT), and is scheduled to arrive in the National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou before the end of this year. Once operational, Tianhe-2 “will provide an open platform for research and education and provide high performance computing service for southern China,” Dongarra wrote.

It is not yet known whether he had sent the computers data for the list.

Tianhe-2 is built with Intel Ivy Bridge and Xeon Phi processors. “There are 32,000 Intel Ivy Bridge Xeon sockets and 48,000 Xeon Phi boards for a total of 3,120,000 cores,” Dongarra wrote. It has storage of 12.4PB and memory totaling 1.4PB. NUDT built its own proprietary interconnect which Dongarra describes as “an optoelectronics hybrid transport technology” that “uses a fat tree topology with 13 switches each of 576 ports at the top level.” Tianhe-2 runs in Kylin Linux.

Message For The Day…Strength Derived From the Divine Is Only The True Strength …

It is believed that every man has a free will. This is a mistake. It is also believed that it is through the individual’s ideas and efforts that many things are accomplished. This is based on misconceptions regarding man’s doership and egoism. Strength derived from the Divine alone is true strength. All else is weakness. To realise theAtma, physical prowess is of no avail. It is only by developing the sense of spiritual oneness, that the Atmic Consciousness can be realised. Today the world is plunged in chaos and conflict because this feeling of oneness has been lost. Man engages himself in strenuous efforts to achieve worldly comforts. But he does not make even a minute fraction of such efforts to meditate on God. How much greater happiness would he enjoy if he were to devote even a few moments to thoughts of God!

View From Cockpit @35000 ft…..Jaw Dropping Images !!!

Most people are lucky to see the sky through their office window, let alone be in it.
But Karim Nafani beholds more than just a few trees and clouds from his desk at work… he gets to see the whole world in shimmering panorama.
And now the Dubai-based commercial airline captain and photographer has taken pictures of his cockpit and posted them online.
He says he began the project in a bid to document his daily routine through a series of otherworldly images that look more like oil paintings than photographs and reveal exactly what it is like for pilots at 35,000 feet.

The only trouble is, when it gets a bit stuffy, he can’t open the window as any normal office worker would.

He said: ‘I take you far away from skyscrapers and high rise building roof tops this time to somewhere much higher: welcome to my daily office!’

He gives the images their ethereal look through a technique called ‘exposure bracketing’ which involves setting up a DSLR camera to take at least three shots, each at a different exposure, before combining them to create the final print.

The result looks more like an oil painting on canvas than a real-time digital photograph.

Apart from the beautiful views that confront Karim each day he takes to the skies, his pictures also remind viewers of the incredible array of levers, panels and buttons that cover almost every inch of an aircraft’s cockpit.

And, of course, he knows his way around them just as well as he does around those on his digital SLR camera.

But Karim’s portfolio doesn’t end inside his cockpit.

As a pilot he says he developed a keen interest in how the world looks from above.

So he went about climbing to the top of buildings and skyscrapers to picture cities from above.

On top of the world: Karim often uses a fish eye lens to bend the horizon

Moody: Karim's braketted exposure technique gives many of his cityscapes a dark edge, almost as if taken from a post-apocalyptic comic book

Rings and roundabouts: One of Karim's favourite times to photograph Dubai is at night when the city lights up in a kaleidoscope of colour

Marina-nother world: As a pilot he says he developed a keen interest in how the world looks from above.

Dusk or dawn? So he went about climbing to the top of buildings and skyscrapers to picture cities from above

Menacing: Karim paints a picture of a world without limits

Iconic: Dubai has a skyline that is not only one of the world's most iconic but also the tallest

Once An Airport ….Now A Luxury Cruise Terminal !!!

Hong Kong Kai Tak Cruise Terminal

The Mariner of the Seas docks at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbor

HONG Kong has opened a $1.1 billion cruise terminal at the site of its former airport in a bid to become Asia’s hub for luxury liners.

The new terminal, built on the runway of the old Kai Tak airport, will be able to accommodate the largest cruise ships in the world – liners of up to 220,000 gross tonnes.

“Kai Tak was the site of our legendary airport and is now turning a historic page by connecting Hong Kong with the rest of the world through the seven seas,” Commissioner of Tourism Philip Yung said.

“With the addition of this new facility, Hong Kong is in full gear to receive mega cruise ships,” Yung said.

Royal Caribbean’s 311 metres long Mariner of the Seas was the first mega luxury cruise liner to dock at the two-berth terminal, which boasts a 360-degree panoramic view of the city.

A troupe of lion dancers welcomed more than 3,000 passengers as they disembarked the ship.

“Our favourite port was Venice. You beat Venice,” George Lamson, a 74-year-old artist from the US, told reporters, adding he was amazed by the views as the ship entered the city’s famed Victoria Harbour.

“We feel very privileged to have this honour,” 65-year-old retiree from the UK Valerie Blakeway said of being the first visitors at the terminal.

 Kai Tak Airport

The former Kai Tak International Airport was considered one of the most challenging places to land an aircraft due to its central location in the city and tall mountains surrounding it.

The airport closed in 1998 after being in service for over 70 years and was replaced by the current Chek Lap Kok International Airport.

The cruise terminal will open to the public in the third quarter of the year with its second berth opening in 2014.

Message For The Day….Inner Voice Of Ours Remain Unchanged From Infancy to Old Age !!!

You may wonder, ‘How is it that the Atma is present in all?’ When you meditate in solitude on this question, a permanent, unchanging sound arises from the mind. All objects manifest the power of the atom. Every object is composed of atoms. It is the nature of atoms to combine and to separate. But in all human beings there is one unchanging and indivisible divine entity, the Inner Voice. The body undergoes change from infancy to old age, but the Inner Voice remains unchanged. People experience three different states of consciousness in the waking, dreaming and deep sleep states. But the Inner Voice has no change in the gross or subtle states of the body. What is that Voice? It is the divine Inner Voice issuing from the Atma-thathwa (Atma Principle). It is continually declaring: ‘I, I, I..’ – ‘Aham, Aham, Aham’. This is the Truth that is subtler and more fundamental than the atom.

A Gorgeous Photo….Taken by Delta Airlines Captain !!!

one world trade center tower cloudes

Last month, the spire was installed on top of Manhattan’s One World Trade Center, bringing the new tower to its full height of 1,776 feet.

That was just tall enough to peek above the clouds for this photo, taken by Delta Airlines Captain Jerry Walsh. The Port Authority of NY & NJ posted the shot to Facebook yesterday.
