In this world, to receive one thing, you need to give up another. When you want a simple handkerchief, you need to pay rupees ten, only then will the shopkeeper sell it to you. God is a very kind merchant. If you offer even a small amount of devotion, the Merciful Lord will, in return, shower infinite amount of Grace on you. The poor devotee, Kuchela offered a handful of beaten rice to Lord Krishna and received His blessings in abundance. Queen Draupadi, during a distressful moment, prayed with a pure heart. Because of the little sacrifice she made earlier, Lord Krishna rushed to respond to her call and showered His infinite Grace to protect her. The fruits of action are inevitable and no one can escape them. However you can nullify or modify the consequences to a certain extent, if you become worthy and deserve His Grace.
On a stage, there are a number of lights. One is turned towards an actor in the role of a king. Another is focussed on a beggar. Yet another light is on a man reading the Ramayana. The fourth one lights up a fighting scene. Here, although the lights illumine a variety of scenes, they remain unaffected by the behaviour of the actors; they simply bear witness to the actions but no blame attaches to them for what the actors do. The characters alone are affected by what they do. Similarly Time is a witness to what everyone is doing. This Time is available equally to all. Your primary duty is to make right use of this Time. For this purpose, there is no need for you to wait for the beginning of a new year. Every moment is a manifestation of Time. The second is the basis for the year. Hence every second should be filled with purposeful action.

The difference between Rama and Ravana can be understood in three key aspects. Rama embodied the following characteristics: He rejoiced in the wellbeing of the whole Universe (Sarva Loka Hithe Ratah). He was the embodiment of wisdom (Sarva Jnana Sampannah). He was filled with all the virtues (Sarve Samuditha Gunaihi). You must learn and practice this important lesson for the welfare of this world. Lord Rama promoted the well-being of all by adhering to Truth and setting an example of righteous conduct. From His life, we must also understand the supreme importance of upholding Truth in our daily life. All of you tend to speak a great deal. We must keep up the promises we make and live up to what we say or preach. Introspect within yourselves as to how truthful is ur speech. Without truth, speech has no value.

1976, பாளையங்கோட்டையில், நாங்கள் தங்கியிருந்த காலம். நள்ளிரவு வேளை. தாகம் எடுக்கிறதே என்று எழுந்து தண்ணீர் குடம் வைத்திருந்த இடம் பக்கமாகப் போனேன். ஸ்விட்சைப் போட்டு விட்டு, குடத்தைப் பார்த்தால், அதன் கழுத்தில் ஏதோ ஒன்று சுற்றியிருப்பது போல் தோன்றியது. அது லேசாக அசைந்தது. அதன் பின் தான் உறுதி செய்தேன். அது பாம்பு என்பதை…. எனக்கு சப்தநாடியும் ஒடுங்கி விட்டது.
ஹாலில் எல்லாரும் படுத்திருந்தார்கள். பாம்பை விரட்டப்போய், அது ஹாலுக்குள் வந்து விட்டால், ஏக கலாட்டா ஆகி விடும். குடும்பத்தார் பதறிப் போய் விடுவார்கள். நான் நின்ற இடத்தில் இருந்தபடியே பூஜை அறையைப் பார்த்தால் தெரியும்.அங்கே பல சுவாமி படங்களின் மத்தியில், காஞ்சி மஹாபெரியவரின் படம் நடுநாயகமாக இருக்கும்.
இதற்குள் பாம்பு இறங்கியது. அந்த அறை மிகவும் வழுவழுப்பாக இருந்ததாலோ என்னவோ, மிகவும் மெதுவாக ஊர்ந்தது. ஹால் பக்கம் போய்விடுமோ என்று பயந்திருந்த வேளையில், ஸ்வாமி படங்கள் இருந்த பக்கமாகப் போனது. மஹாபெரியவர் படத்தின் முன்னால், தலையைத் தூக்கிப் பார்த்தது. பிறகு, அங்கிருந்த ஒரு துவாரத்தின் வழியாக வெளியேறிவிட்டது.
எனக்கு அப்போது தான் மூச்சே வந்தது. பிறகு, குடும்பத்தாரிடம் தகவல் சொன்னேன். அடுத்தநாளே, காஞ்சி மடத்துக்குப் பயணமானேன். மஹாபெரியவரைத் தரிசனம் செய்தேன்.
பெரியவா, அப்போது சொன்னது என்னை அப்படியே திகைப்பில் ஆழ்த்திவிட்டது.
”பயமுறுத்தினா தான் மடத்து ஞாபகம் உனக்கு வருமோ?”
நான் பெரியவா காலில் தடாலென விழுந்து விட்டேன்.
ஆஹா, வீட்டிற்குள் பாம்பு வந்து, நான் பயந்து போனது எப்படி அவருக்குத் தெரிந்தது? என்னே அவரது ஞானம்! பாம்பின் வடிவாய் வந்ததே அவர் தானோ?
இன்னொருசம்பவத்தையும் குறிப்பிடுகிறேன்.
ஒரு சமயம் கர்நூலில் பெரியவர் முகாமிட்டிருந்தார். நாங்கள் குடும்பத்துடன் பெரியவரைத் தரிசனம் செய்தோம். ஊருக்குக் கிளம்பும் வேளையில், பெரியவர் என்னை அழைப்பதாக ஒருவர் தகவல் சொன்னார். நான் பெரியவா முன் நின்ற போது, “உன் குடும்பத்தில் யாரோ சந்நியாசம் வாங்கியிருக்க வேண்டுமே?” என்றார்.
“எனக்குத் தெரிந்து அப்படி யாருமில்லையே பெரியவா!” என அவரிடம் சொன்னேன். பெரியவா என்னிடம் “நீ ஊருக்குப் போய், பெரியவர்களிடம் விசாரித்து, மடத்துக்குத் தகவல் கொடு” எனச்சொல்லி விடை கொடுத்தார்.
நான் ஊருக்குப் போய் உறவினர்களிடம் விசாரித்தேன். அவர்கள் கூறிய பதில் என்னை திகைக்க வைத்தது.
“ஒரு வாரம் முன்பு தான், என் ஒன்றுவிட்ட சகோதரி மகன் ஆடிட்டர் சீனிவாசன், சேலம் கந்தாஸ்ரமத்தில் துறவறம் மேற்கொண்டு விட்டார்” என்ற தகவல் தான் அது.
பெரியவரின் அந்த ஞானசக்தியை எண்ணி என் கண்கள் பனித்தன. அவர் நடமாடும் தெய்வம் என்பதில் எள்ளளவும் சந்தேகம் இல்லை

One Sankaranti day, Rukmini, Sathyabhama, Jambavati, Gopikas, and Draupadi among others were with Lord Krishna, joyously munching sugarcane. Krishna, in order to test them, pretended as if His finger was cut. God always tests His devotees. Test is nothing but a taste of God. If the devotee is successful in the test, he/she receives God’s bounteous Grace. God does not conduct tests as a sign of hatred or enmity; He always does it out of intense love and compassion. As soon as Krishna’s finger was cut, it started bleeding. Sathyabhama asked a servant to quickly get a piece of cloth. Rukmini ran herself. Draupadi saw this and immediately tore a piece of her own sari and tied it to Lord Krishna’s thumb to stop the bleeding. Witnessing this, Rukmini and Sathyabama were ashamed that their love and actions did not match Draupadi’s love. Later Lord Krishna showered infinite grace when Draupadi needed it the most.
Just as you attend to the needs of the body regularly, feeding it three times a day to keep it in good running condition, so too spend some time regularly to keep your inner consciousness in good trim. Spend one hour in the morning, another at night and the third in the early hours of the dawn (the Brahma Muhurtha) for japam (contemplation) and meditation on the Lord. You will find great peace descending upon you and new sources of strength welling up within as you progress in this spiritual practice (Sadhana). After sometime, the mind will dwell on the Name, wherever you are and whatever you are engaged in. Peace and Joy will become your inseparable companions.
கிராமத்தில் முகாம். விவசாய வேலை செய்யும் ஒரு பெண்மணி, தரிசனத்துக்கு வந்தாள் .
பெரியவாள் எதிரில் கையை கூப்பிக்கொண்டு நின்றாள். நெஞ்சு படபடவென்று அடித்து கொண்டிருந்தது.
“என்ன வேலை பண்றே?”
“வயல் வேலைக்கு போறேன், சாமி. ஆறு பசங்கள். மாமியா, என்கிட்ட இருக்கு. காலையிலே சோறாக்கி வெச்சிட்டு போயிடுவேன். இருட்டினப்புறம்தான் வீட்டுக்கு வருவேன். நான் எப்படி சாமியை கும்பிடறது? கோயிலுக்கு போறது? உடம்பும் களைச்சுப் போவுது. சாமி கும்பிடவே நேரமில்லே, சாமி..”
பெரியவாளின் திருக்கண்கள் கருணையால் நிரம்பியிருந்தன.
“சாமி கும்பிடனும்னு நினைகிறையே, அதுவே சாமி கும்பிட்ட மாதிரிதான்!
“காலையிலே சூரிய உதயம் ஆனவுடன், கிழக்கே சூரியனை பார்த்து ஒரு கும்பிடு போடு. சாயங்காலம் விளக்கு வச்சவுடனே மேற்கு திக்கு பார்த்து ஒரு கும்பிடு போடு.
“நீ கர்மயோகி. ஒரு விநாடி நேரம் தெய்வத்தை நினைச்சாலே போறும் – சகல புண்யமும் கிடைச்சிடும்..”
பெண்மணி கண்களை துடைத்து கொண்டாள். “சூரியனை கும்பிடு – சகல புண்ணியமும் கிடைச்சிடும்!” என்ன ஆறுதல்! என்ன கருணை!
பெரியவாள் பல வகையான பழங்களை அந்த பெண்மணிக்கு கொடுக்க சொன்னார்கள். தீனமாக வந்த மங்கை, திரும்பி போகும்போது, அரசியாக – மங்கயர்கரசியாக போனாள்.
பெரியவாள் ஞான சூரியன். கும்பிட்டாலே போதும் – சகல புண்ணியமும் கிடைச்சிடும்!

There is immeasurable strength and great power within us. Today, we have many satellites which go into space. Who created them? It is our scientists. How did they achieve this? This is because of the power that is already manifest in them. They worked hard and further developed that capability in them, and then the power to achieve the goal manifested. So too, if you develop that power through hard work, you too can accomplish great things. In every being, there is complete Divine Power. How can we use that power to attain God? Assume there is a small drop of water. When under hot Sun, it evaporates within a moment. However if you pour these few drops of water into the sea, they merge and become one with the ocean. So too, with adequate effort, if you lose your individual identity to the Supreme, then you too merge in Him and become One with Him.
Human beings are the most precious objects in the Creation of the Lord. They are way more valuable than all the wealth in the world. In fact it is man who imparts value to all objects. But we fail to recognise this because people are attracted to all the visible objects of the world experienced by the senses, and are unaware of the Spirit within them. For accomplishing anything in this world, three things are essential – First, mastery over the senses; second, control over the mind; and third, maintaining perfect bodily health. When all the three requisites are present, you can most certainly achieve your aim. Put appropriate effort and attain a lot of goodness with the power you already possess! Do not lose your power by indulging in sensual pleasures without self-control. You can accomplish anything with these three things.
