Message For The Day….Don”t Expect Grace of God by Simply Visiting Sacred Places …

You ask for Grace, which is rare and is available at a high cost. However, you pay only trash and are disappointed that you are unable to secure it! Isn’t it sheer avarice! You claim that you have been visiting Puttaparthi (or other sacred places) and have served there, longer than 18 years or so and expect huge chunks of Grace. But it is not the years that matter – what matters is the depth to which the roots of Karma (past actions) have grown from your previous births. It takes a long time and systematic effort to clear the field of all those growths – that effort is the sadhana, of good actions and worship (Karma and Upasana).

Message For The Day….What is Required to be Pursued to Attain Divinity ….

There are two very important statements in the Bhagavad Gita, which you must take to heart and profit from: Shraddhavan Labhate Jnanam (The one steady in faith gains wisdom and liberation) and Samshayaathma Vinashyathi (Doubt leads to perdition, spiritual ruin). Dwell on these axioms and practice the spiritual disciplines of repetition of the Lord’s name and meditation on His form. Gopis of Brindavan yearned for the Lord with purity in their hearts and attained union with Him. You too must fill your mind with His beautiful form and contemplate on the glory of the Lord. Then you can attain Divinity. This is the pursuit that is worthy, not the pursuit of fame, nor the friendship of the famous.

Message For The Day…A Teacher is Instrumental in Unfolding The Flower Of Knowledge….

Teaching is the process in which the teacher and the taught cooperate, a pleasant and useful experience for both. When teachers enter the classroom, children salute them; that is a lesson in humility, in respecting age and scholarship, and in gratitude for the service rendered. The teachers too, should decide to deserve the salutation through their sincere efforts and selfless service. Move the students through your love. Do not win the respect of the student through fear. Education is a slow process, like the unfolding of a flower, the fragrance becoming deeper and more perceptible as the flower silently blossoms, one petal at a time. The unfolding will be helped if the teacher is a fine example of discrimination, humility and clear-sightedness, rather than a person engaged in the task of mere repetitive teaching and coaching for examinations. Example, not precept, is the best teaching aid.

Message For The Day….One”s Virtue is in His Vision he Commands….

In the present times, it is impossible to find virtuous people or virtues holding sway over people’s minds. People have lost the fear of a fall and become worse than animals. During previous centuries, Rajput women immolated themselves rather than fall into the hands of wicked foes. When Hanuman offered to take Sita back to Rama, the virtue of Sita would not allow her to accept the offer. She said that it would best suit her husband’s fame if he himself avenges the wrong and rescues her. Hanuman’s taking her, would be a repetition of what Ravana did, for he too stole her secretly while Rama was away. She did not consider her immediate relief as more important than the implications of that step to her virtue and her husband’s fair name. It all lies in the vision that you command, that you have equipped yourselves with.

Message For The Day….Be Compassionate to Your Enemy Also ….

Birth as a human being is a unique chance. For, human beings alone are endowed with discriminating intelligence, that is, the power to reason out the best amongst alternative courses. You are, by design, very far from the animal kingdom (pashu) and very near to Divine (Pashupathi). Do not relapse into animality. Imbibe love, nobility and majesty from the scriptures; they are so full of it! For example, look at the grandeur in behaviour portrayed in Ramayana! After the war, when Ravana fell, Rama sent Lakshmana to the battlefield with the message to see that he is treated like the Emperor of Lanka, and not as a despised enemy. The scriptures have in them such lessons that portray the majesty of virtue (Seelam), action (Kriya) and feelings (Bhava).

Message For The Day…Remember we are all pilgrims towards the same goal …Routes differ !!!

Engage yourself in spiritual discipline, spiritual thoughts, and spiritual company. Forget the past and let it go its way. At least from now on be determined to save yourself. Never yield to doubt or unsteadiness. Have faith in any one Name and Form that appeals to you. If you revere one form of God and hate another, the net result is zero. God will not tolerate the slightest hatred of any Name or Form. Avoid factions, quarrelling, scorning and fault-finding, as they reveal your ignorance and actually recoil on you. You find fault in others, because you have the same faults in you. If you throw contempt at the form of God that another reveres, the contempt falls on your own God. Remember, everyone is a pilgrim towards the same goal. Some take one route, others take another.

Message For The Day….No Need For Scriptures, If You Acquire Love…

Scriptures are only road-maps; at best they are guide-books that give directions for the destination. It is the actual journey that will reveal the hardships, the delays, the land-slips, the potholes as well as the beauty of the scenic route on the way, and the magnificence of the destination. No secondhand account can equal the firsthand experience! The symbols on the map are interpreted differently by different scholars according to their preconceived notions, predilections and pet theories. If you acquire Love, then you can dispense with the Scriptures; for the purpose of all the Scriptures is just that: to create the feeling of Sarvajana samaana prema (equal love for all), and to negate egoism which stands in the way. Reason too, if it comes in the way of this love, is to be discarded as ‘perverted’.

Divine Invitation Card From Swami Sathya Sai Baba in the Year 1945 !!!….A Flashback !!!

Inauguration (Grahapravesam) of Padha Manidram
The first Mandir in Puttaparthi was opened on Friday December 14, 1945.  You are seeing here, the scanned copy of the Divine Invitation Card sent out by Swami. I wonder which were the families who were most blessed and fortunate to receive an Invitation from Bhagavan Himself.
The Grahapravesam (house warming) ceremony was the first major event in Puttaparthi .
In 1944 Puttaparthi village, was a tiny hamlet of 2 lanes at right angles. Only one or two families from Bangalore or Madras used come at a time to have Darshan of Bala Sai.  They resided at cattle sheds for a nominal rent of four rupees per month. They spent all their time drinking the Nectar of Swami’s Darshan, Sparshan and Sambhashan.
Swami would be supervising the building work and the arrangements for the inaugural function. The young men were involved in climbing up the ladders, and hanging decorations and photos on the walls. Sometimes Swami Himself would climb up. Some devotees had the privilege of offering orange juice to Swami whenever He walked through the lanes.
Smt. Savithriamma and group from Bangalore prepared the feast on the inaugural day.  Thanks to Swami’s touch, the contents multiplied and there would be enough to feed the entire village and hundreds of devotees.
Swami arrived in procession, seated on a floral decoration with the idols of two Sais on either sides. Swami installed the two idols in the main prayer hall with large canvas paintings of both Babas and pictures of other deities. A screen was used to cover the altar  in the shrine, after daily Puja was over.
Swami Himself would perform the Puja. He would dust the pictures and clean and decorate the idols. Swami would lead the Bhajan, followed by His sister Venkamma and other devotees. The first song on that day was, “Sree Ganesha Sivuni Kumara”
He would hit two coconuts against each other and sprinkle the water on all present. He would perform Arathi to Himself and show it to all devotees.
Devotees would sing “Poojinthu Maa, mana Sayi nee…” and end with the Arathi song “Paavana Purusha Saayeesa”. Swami would give prasad – coconut scrapings mixed with sugar. He used to sing “Sai Rama mana prasada midigo Randi Bhakthularaaa” (Receive the Divine Prasad of our Sai Rama). He would grant interview to everyone. There was no fixed time. As devotees arrived, they were ushered in for interview.
Those days, reaching Parthi was a Herculean task. Every time devotees were forced to take a new unknown route because of floods in Chitravathi River.
The Mandir had only 4 rooms. There were 5 kitchens in a row at the back. On the inauguration day, Swami went to a corner and placed his Palm on the ground. Soon a spring rose. It was fresh water. Swami ordered a well to be dug there. This was the only source of drinking water for the entire village. Even in summer, the water level remained the same. The devotees slept in the open space with Swami’s cot in the centre. His belongings were meagre, unlike His vast heart.
