Just as underground water is the sustenance of all trees, the Atma is the underlying source of all the bliss that the individual experiences. The process of digging a borewell to bring the underground water to surface level involves steady hitting, digging, and thumping through a pipe which holds and directs the drill. The people who do the boring take a lot of care to ensure that air does not go into the pipe, for then the drilling process becomes unsuccessful. FInally through a lot of effort, you bring the subterranean water to the surface level for human consumption. So too, you must undertake the repetition of the Lord’s Name (Japam) very intensely taking care that you do not allow the attachment to worldly objects (Vishaya vasana) to enter and interfere with the process.

Message For The Day….Way to Cleanse our Mind …Prayer and Devotion …
Prayer and contrition are the two disciplines by which the mind can be cleansed of egoism and hatred; Saint Tyagaraja was a fine example of how this can be done. His songs are pure fragrant blossoms of devotion. He sang soulfully the glory of Rama, with the welfare of the individual as well as the world in view. He was ever engaged in the process of examining his words and deeds, and evaluating them on the touchstone of devotion. As the bee in quest of honey wanders in search of the flowers, as the creeper clings fast and fondly to the tree lest it may fall, as the stream runs to the river and the river rushes to the sea, Saint Thyagaraja pined for Lord Rama. Lord Rama had to give him personal audience (Darshan) and come to his rescue several times. Through devotion,Tyagaraja ensured he experienced the Lord’s constant presence and always remained in peace and joy.

Short Stories with Great Morals
Once an old man spread rumors that his neighbor was a thief. As a result, the young man was arrested. Days later the young man was proven innocent. After being released he sued the old man for wrongly accusing him.
In the court the old man told the Judge: “They were just comments, didn’t harm anyone.” The judge told the old man: “Write all the things you said about him on a piece of paper. Cut them up and on the way home, throw the pieces of paper out. Tomorrow, come back to hear the sentence.”
Next day, the judge told the old man: “Before receiving the sentence, you will have to go out and gather all the pieces of paper that you threw out yesterday.”
The old man said: “I can’t do that! The wind spread them and I won’t know where to find them.”
The judge then replied: “The same way, simple comments may destroy the honor of a man to such an extent that one is not able to fix it. If you can’t speak well of someone, rather don’t say anything.”
Moral: Let’s all be masters of our mouths, so that we won’t be slaves of our words..

Message For The Day…Be Ever Vigilant of Your Own Nature and Duty …

Every one of you must fit in with the Divine Plan. Strive to know its main principles and be equipped for the tasks He allots to you. Give your heart completely to the duty assigned to you in life. Be ever vigilant of your own nature and duty (swadharma) and engage in the tasks that your role demands. To attain the Divine, you have to climb from the animal state to the human state and from human level to Divinity. This climb is hard given the several forces that are always around you, ready to pull you downward. The engine in the car if clogged and worn out, will whine and groan when it has to ascend a steep hill. On the other hand if it is well-maintained, free from the dust and dirt of sensory yearning, then it will ascend heights very easily.

சென்னையில் உணவுக்கு ஒரு ஆலயம் !!!
எத்தனையோ தெய்வங்களுக்கு ஆலயங்கள், இந்த நாட்டில் உள்ளன. ஆனால், சென்னையில், உணவுக்கு ஒரு ஆலயம் உள்ளது.சென்னை, பெரம்பூரில், அருள்ஜோதி அன்ன ஆலயம், கடந்த 18 ஆண்டுகளாக செயல்பட்டு வருகிறது. இங்கு, காலை, மதியம், இரவு என, மூன்று வேளையும், பசி என்று வருவோருக்கு, இல்லை என்று சொல்லாமல், உணவளித்து வருகிறார் சதீஷ்ராஜ் ‘அடிகளார்’,
1995ல் இருந்து…:
கடந்த 1995ல், வீட்டிலேயே, சொந்த செலவில், அன்னதான பணியை சதீஷ்ராஜ் துவங்கினார். பின், நன்கொடையாளர்கள் வழங்கிய அரிசி, பருப்பு உள்ளிட்ட உணவு பொருட்களின் அளவு அதிகரிக்க, 1999ல், கென்னடி சதுக்க பிரதான சாலையில் தனியே அன்னதானக் கூடம் அமைத்தார்.இங்கு, தற்போது, மூன்று வேளையும் அன்னதானம் நடந்து வருகிறது. இதுதவிர, தினமும், 20க்கும் மேற்பட்ட மாநகராட்சி பள்ளிகளில், உரிய அனுமதி மற்றும் கோரிக்கையின் அடிப்படையில் மாணவ, மாணவியருக்கு, காலை உணவாக, அரிசி கஞ்சி வழங்கி வருகிறார்.ஆலய அன்னதானத்திலும், இந்த உணவு ஆலயம் பங்கேற்கிறது. சென்னை சுற்றுவட்டாரத்தில் உள்ள 20க்கும் மேற்பட்ட கோவில்களில், சுழற்சி முறையில், மதிய சாப்பாடு, அன்ன ஆலயத்தில் இருந்து அனுப்பப்படுகிறது.இந்த வகையில், தினமும், ஏறத்தாழ 5,000 பேர், அருள்ஜோதி அன்ன ஆலயம் மூலம் பசியாறி வருகின்றனர்.
வேதாத்திரி மகரிஷி:
அன்ன ஆலயம் அமைத்தது குறித்து சதீஷ்ராஜிடம் கேட்ட போது, ”என்னை விளம்பரப்படுத்தும் வகையில் நான் எதுவும் கூறமாட்டேன். இருந்தாலும், நீங்கள் கேட்கும் கேள்விகளுக்கு மட்டும் பதிலளிக்கிறேன்,” என்றபடி, பதிலளிக்க துவங்கினார்.”ஆரம்பத்தில் நானும் சாதாரணமாக வேலை, வீடு என்று சென்று கொண்டுஇருந்தேன். ஒருநாள் மனிதனாய் பிறந்த நாம், ஏதாவது சேவை செய்ய வேண்டும் என எண்ணி, அன்னதானம் செய்ய துவங்கினேன். வேதாத்திரி மகரிஷி மீதிருந்த பற்றால், பின்னாளில் சேவையே வாழ்க்கையாகி விட்டது. ஆரம்பத்தில் சொந்த செலவில் நடந்த அன்ன ஆலயப் பணிகள், இப்போது பொதுமக்களின் நன்கொடை மூலம் குறைவில்லாமல் நடைபெறுகின்றன,” என்றார் அவர்.அன்னதானம் தான், அறங்களில் தலை யானது என்ற அவர், ”முன்பின் அறியாத, தொடர்பே இல்லாத ஒருவர் தரும் அன்னதானம், எங்கோ ஒருவரின் வயிற்றுப் பசியை போக்குகிறது. அவரது வாய் வாழ்த்தா விட்டாலும், அவரது பசியாறிய உணர்வு, தானமளித்தவர்களை மனதார வாழ்த்தும்,” என்றார்.
‘மக்களால் நடக்கிறது’:
”பொதுமக்கள் தரும் நன்கொடையை நாங்கள் பணியாட்களை அனுப்பி வாங்கு வோம். தற்போது, பலரது நன்கொடையை நேரில் சென்று பெற முடியாத அளவுக்கு, நன்கொடைகள் குவிகின்றன. இந்த அன்னதானப் பணியில் நான் வெறும் கருவி மட்டுமே. மக்கள் தான் இதை நடத்துகின்றனர்,” என, நெகிழ்ச்சியுடன் தெரிவித்தார்.அருள்ஜோதி அன்ன ஆலயத்தில் தொடர்ந்து ஆறு மாதத்திற்கு மேல் ஒருவரை காண முடியாது. அதன் பின், அவர் ஏதாவது ஒரு வேலையில் ஈடுபட்டிருப்பார் என, உறுதியுடன் தெரிவிக்கிறார் சதீஷ்ராஜ்.
இப்படியுமா?
உரையாடல் முடிந்ததும் தம்பதியராய் புகைப்படம் எடுக்க வேண்டும் என்றபோது, சதீஷ்ராஜும், அவரது மனைவியும் மறுத்து விட்டனர்.இன்று 100 பேருக்கு சாப்பாடு போட்டு விட்டு, ‘போஸ்’ தரும் சிலருக்கு மத்தியில், தினமும் 5,000 பேருக்கு உணவளிக்கும் தம்பதியர், செய்தியாக கூட தங்களுக்கு விளம்பரம் வேண்டாம் என, மறுத்தது, உண்மையிலேயே அதிசயமாகத் தான் இருந்தது.

Message For The Day….Resolve and Achieve Victory Over Your Ego …
You must renounce attachment, hatred and ego. It is these qualities of attachment and ego that play havoc with a person and cast them into the mire of delusion. Ego leads to ostentatiousness and ostentatiousness strengthens the ego. A person can never experience divine bliss as long as one is swayed by the ego. Lord Krishna reveals to Arjuna in the Gita, “Ego, attachment and ostentatiousness are Rajasik qualities (passionate temperaments). These three are very dangerous and they bring on disaster! If anyone cultivates these habits, knowingly or unknowingly, they are not betraying others, but are deceiving themselves!” Resolve and achieve victory over your ego. With firm faith, make an intense effort to rid yourself of evil qualities. I bless you to carry out your convictions successfully and accomplish this victory with utmost ease!

The story associated with Goddess Durga and Mahishasura
The story associated with Navratri and Durga Puja is found in the Markandeya Purana. The chapters 81 to 93 in the Markandeya Purana talks about the slaying of demon Mahishasura or Mahisha by Durga and it is referred as Devimahatmya and is recited during the Navaratri and Durga Puja. It symbolized the victory of good over evil. The most famous episode is of Durga killing Mahishasura
Birth of Mahishasura
Legend has it that two sons of Danu called Rambha and Karambha performed penances to gain more powers. Rambha performed the austerities by standing amidst five ritual fires called Panchagni and Karambha by standing in neck-deep in water.
Indra, the lord of the gods, felt threatened by such intense austerities and took the form of a crocodile and killed Karambha. Rambha, who came to know about his brother’s death, increased the intensity of his austerities and won several boons from gods like great brilliance, beauty, invincibility in war. Most importantly, the boon that he will not be killed by humans or Gods or Asuras (demons).
After receiving the boon, he was roaming in the garden of Yaksha and there he fell in love with a female-buffalo. To express his love Rambha took the form of a male-buffalo and copulated with the she-buffalo. But soon a real male buffalo discovered Rambha in the garden and killed him.
Rambha’s inflated ego made him not to ask the boon of invincibility from animals. And an animal happened to be the reason for his death.
The female-buffalo, who was pregnant, decided to kill herself in the funeral pyre of Rambha. She jumped into the pyre and from the pyre sprang up a mighty asura (demon) with the head of a buffalo and human body. This was Mahishasura.
Mahishasura Defeats Gods
Mahishasura defeated the gods and the demons. He attacked the heaven and captured it and made ‘devas’ his slaves. He proclaimed that he is now Indra – the lord of the gods. The gods led by Brahma approached Vishnu and Shiva and appraised them of the situation.
Birth of Goddess Durga
The actions of Mahishasura caused intense anger in the Trimurtis. The anger emerging out of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva combined to the take the shape of a terrible form and this was Durga.
It is said that the flames of fire that gushed out of the eyes of the Trimurtis – Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva – formed a mountain, brilliant like a million suns. Out of this mountain, Durga took shape as the goddess more powerful than all the gods. Samasta devanam tejo rasi samudbhavam’ Durga is the brilliance of all the gods.
Captivated by the awe-inspiring Durga, the gods bestowed on her their own characteristic weapons. Shiva – the trident, Vishnu – the discus, Varuna – the conch, Agni – the spear, Yama – the cudgel, Vayu – the bow, Surya – the arrows, Indra – the vajra, Kubera – the mace, Brahma – the water pot, Kala – the sword and Vishwakarma – the axe. Himavan gifted a mountain lion as her vehicle.
Goddess Durga kills Mahishasura
When the goddess was seen by Mahishasura, he fell in love with her and sought to marry her. The goddess promised to marry him, if he defeated her in the battle. A terrible combat ensued and continued for nine days. Finally, Durga assumed the terrifying form of Chandika and pinned Mahishasura down with her foot and pierced his neck with her spear and she cut his head off with her sword.
The legend about the killing of Mahisha is found in many Puranas and therefore there are slight variations in the story. The story is also found in Vamana Purana, Varaha Purana, Shiva Purana, Skanda Purana, Devi Bhagavatam and Kalika Purana.
