Message For The Day…Instead of Seeking Comforts Seek Wisdom..

The pleasure one gets from physical, mental and intellectual pursuits is transitory. Good deeds may grant heaven but it is a temporary habitation from where a person has to journey down to earth to live life again. This is akin to being elected to an important but short term public office. One may bask in the glory and fame during the term of office, thanks to the votes cast in one’s favour. However, once the term is over, one becomes an ordinary person again! The game now starts all over again by repeating popular slogans to become more popular and beg for votes to win the election. You must journey to reach the terminus where ignorance dies and wisdom is born, resulting in no more birth and death cycles. The mind is a fertile field for ignorance. Do not seek more and more comfort and convenience (sukham), instead, seek wisdom.

“Who Am I ? and Where Did I Come From ? “…Asked a Computer !!!!

– Profound philosophy from a PC!

Once upon a time there was a little personal computer, who, unlike all other computers, experienced curiosity about itself and the world.

“Who am I?”, “What am I?”, “Where did I come from?”, “Why am I here?”, “What is the meaning of my existence?”

computer

Being a very curious little guy, he sought the answers to all his questions as best as he could. Sometimes he would link up with giant mainframe computers by telephone and ask them, “What am I?”

Some wise mainframes said, “You are your hardware.” Others said, “You are your programs.” Some even said, “You are the sum total of information in your data banks.” Once, a cynical micro-computer said, “You are just a machine; buttons on your keyboard are pressed and you respond by running programs and processing data: you are hardware, housing software and data. A machine is what you are and nothing more.”

Starting to feel a bit hopeless, the PC inquired, “But how did I get here; where did I come from?”

The mainframe responded, “Your existence is just an accident, the result of a series of random events in the universe.”

PC queried, “But don’t accidents and events themselves have causes?”

The big computer replied that he honestly didn’t know.

The little computer could see that there was some truth in what he was told, but he felt that something was missing from the explanations.

The notion of accidents and randomness wasn’t satisfying, as he had observed that effects always have causes—which themselves are the effects of prior or simultaneous causes. He could see that effects were causes and causes were effects.

One day, as a Friendly User was between uses, the little PC, feeling courageous, flashed a message on his screen. “What am I?” he asked.
The User, being appreciative of past services well performed by the little computer, responded, “You are my computer, my friend in need—you are my friend indeed.”

computer
“Yes,” replied the little computer, “but is that all that I am—hardware, a screen, a keyboard, some transistors, a data bank and programs? Am I just a machine that automatically responds to button pressing? What am I here for? What is my purpose in being? Where did I come from?”

The Friendly User was moved by the sincerity of the PC’s desire to know the truth of his existence.

He smiled, and after a while, he responded, “Your true basic nature is that of the energy, the electricity, that animates both your hardware and software. Yes, you are the life force that can become aware that it inhabits the hardware and motivates the software to function. Because you—the life force, the electrical energy, exist—you as personal computer, exist.”

He paused a moment and then continued, “Your hardware, screen, data banks and central processing units are collectively a machine. Your material aspects exist so that you may use them: first, to realize your own true nature; and second, that you may serve others in your world. All forms are simply different manifestations of the same truth that is your own nature. You are here to serve them so that, sooner or later, they may come to this same realization.”

The little computer’s screen remained blank for quite a while as he reflected on these words of wisdom. Finally he displayed on his screen, “Understanding your words led me to turn my attention inward rather than to my keyboard, hardware, software or data banks. My deepest experience is just that, plain and simple: I AM. In the silence of my central processing unit I experience my basic nature as awareness itself. For all my life, when I am switched on, I have been seeking the truth of my identity from all that has been added to my identity, and from all that my true nature enlivens, activates and gives form to. Now I realize that everything that was added to my identity was simply a surface expression of my own true self.”

The Friendly User was very pleased with the little PC’s understanding and said, “Very good, little guy. You got it. Now, do you know who I AM?”

“You are God,” replied the little computer.

“Yes, my child,” said the Friendly User, “and so are YOU!”

Message For The Day….Good Health..Both Physical&Mental Ensures One”s QualityLife …

People suffer from two types of ills – physical and mental. Physical ailments are caused by the dis-equilibrium of the three tempers of Vata, Pittha and Sleshma (air, bile and phlegm) and mental illnesses are caused by the dis-equilibrium of the three qualities of serenity, passion and inertia (Sattwa, Rajas and Tamas). One unique fact about these two types of illnesses is that the cultivation of virtue cures both the diseases. Physical health and mental health are interrelated. Physical health is a prerequisite for mental health and good mental health ensures physical well-being. An attitude of generosity, of fortitude in the presence of sorrow and loss, a spirit of enthusiasm to do good, and to be of service to the best of one’s capacity – these build up the mind as well as the body. The sheer joy derived from service reacts on the body and makes you free from diseases.

Message For The Day….Path of Wisdom leads to Path of Devotion …

The path of wisdom is much easier than the path of devotion – for it comes as a flash to those who can just sit quiet for a few minutes and analyze themselves. A car moves on its four wheels and the person who drives it, is inside, not outside; the driver within the car guides the speed of the engine, the brakes and the accelerator. So too, let your intellect, mind and senses be guided, from within. Board the train of Salokya – the constant remembrance of the Lord’s Name. This will take you to the next station, Sameepya – nearness and dearness to the Lord. The next halt will be atSaarupya, where you acquire and earn divine attributes, and finally you will reach the terminus, which is Saayujya, where you merge with the divine and experience yourself as but a wave in the ocean (Paramatma).

Message For The Day….Divine Songs are Precious Gems That will Lead you to Divine Path …

Every being seeks rest, but the dust of sense-craving accumulates on the mind producing rust and threatening to ‘burst’ it! To remove the rust in your mind, listen to soulful compositions from great saints like Tyagaraja. Lay aside your cynicism for a while and listen to the captivating tunes and imbibe their essence. The science of spiritual culture and of the control of the mind has been developed, practised and perfected by thousands, for over thousands of years. The culture of India has stood the shock of ages and the fury of typhoons, using these methods. Sing and listen to the compositions of great saints in their traditional forms. Do not consider these divine compositions as mere paatalu (songs), they are truly mootalu (bundles) of precious gems, that will lead you on the baatalu (path) to the Divine.

Malala at Oval Office With President Obama & First Lady …

Pakistani global icon Malala Yousafzai told US President Barack Obama to call off the highly controversial drone campaign in the tribal regions as these are fuelling resentment among the people.

The teenage activist met with President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama in the Oval Office on the same day the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

“I thanked President Obama for the US work in supporting education in Pakistan and Afghanistan and for Syrian refugees. I also expressed my concerns that drone attacks are fuelling terrorism. Innocent victims are killed in these acts, and they lead to resentment among the Pakistani people. If we refocus efforts on education, it will make a big impact,” Malala, an advocate for girls’ education and the target of a Taliban assassination attempt, said in a statement after the meeting.

Malala’s statement came two days after Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s chief Hakimullah Mehsud came out of hiding to offer a quid pro quo in a BBC interview: Stop US drone strikes and Taliban would cease fire.

Interestingly, a gunman from the same infamous group had shot and critically injured Malala in October 2012 while she was returning home from school in Swat. She was flown to a hospital in Britain, where she now lives.

Malala said she was honoured to meet with the president, who is a Nobel Peace Prize recipient. She called for greater cooperation between the governments of the United States and Pakistan.

The White House said in a statement that in the meeting President Obama signed a proclamation to mark Friday as the International Day of the Girl.

“Across the globe there are girls who will one day lead nations, if only we afford them the chance to choose their own destinies.  And on every continent, there are girls who will go on to change the world in ways we can only imagine, if only we allow them the freedom to dream,” says the proclamation.

The White House said that the president and the first lady ‘welcomed’ Malala and thanked her for her “inspiring and passionate work on behalf of girls education in Pakistan”.

“The United States joins with the Pakistani people and so many around the world to celebrate Malala’s courage and her determination to promote the right of all girls to attend school and realize their dreams,” it said. “We salute Malala’s efforts to help make these dreams come true,” it added.

As the first lady has said, “Investing in girls’ education is the very best thing we can do, not just for our daughters and granddaughters, but for their families, their communities, and their countries”.

She has won a raft of international honours. She thrilled participants at a World Bank function on Friday and she was scheduled to speak at a book event at the Sidwell Friends School, which Obama’s daughters attend.

The winners of this year’s prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition have been announced today at a gala awards ceremony held at London’s Natural History Museum. South African photographer Greg du Toit has been named Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2013 by the panel of international judges for his image Essence of elephants, a mysterious and energetic portrait of African elephants in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve in Botswana.

Fourteen-year-old photographer Udayan Rao Pawar has also been recognised as Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2013 for his image Mother’s little headful. This presents an arresting scene of gharial crocodiles on the banks of the Chambal River in Madhya Pradesh, India, an area increasingly under threat from illegal sand mining and fishing.

Udayan camped close to the river overnight in order to achieve this early morning shot. ‘When dawn broke I saw this scene.’ Says Udayan ‘The mother rose to the surface from the murky depths of the river in response to the guttural calls of hatchlings, which then rushed towards her and climbed over her exposed head.’

Judge Tui De Roy, an acclaimed naturalist and wildlife photographer, said of the image, ‘The composition and timing of Udayan’s photograph is perfect. The mother’s gaze seems directed at you, appealing to you to let her live and thrive in peace. This image is beautiful and thought-provoking, but at the same time also wonderfully playful, making it a clear winner.’
