87 years later they’ve celebrated their 70th  wedding anniversary !!!!

Chief Petty Officers Thomas Everest and Colin Campbell met in the Royal Navy and as they both lived in Kent they and their wives became firm friends.

Ronald was born to Thomas and his wife, Gertrude, in August 1921.

Just seven months later Colin’s wife, Kate, gave birth to baby Eileen in the same labour ward.

The young pair became inseparable over the next four years as they played together day in day out, Ron always protective of his slightly younger chum.

The cherished family photograph -taken in 1926 -has fondly become known as their ‘wedding rehearsal…

Mr and Mrs Everest (nee Campbell) were family friends united by their fathers.

The Everests, from Beetley, near Dereham, Norfolk, celebrated their Platinum wedding on Wednesday


Mrs Everest said: ‘It is quite an unusual story, especially these days, but we have got on well together most of the time.’

As for her beloved husband, he revealed his good humoured secret for such a long and successful fairytale marriage: ‘We promised to love, honour and obey –  and I did all the obeying.!!!

How can the doctor cure you if you do not take medicines or follow the diet restrictions and regulate your intake according to his advice? Similarly, follow My advice and then watch the result. Also remember, it is a sign of foolishness to brood over mishaps and mistakes once committed, and punish oneself by refusing to take food and so on. What good is it to ill-treat the body to correct the mind? Even as you deal with your own faults strictly, you should pardon that of others. Do not misunderstand their motives and scandalise them; perhaps their motives might be as noble as yours or their action might be due to ignorance, rather than wickedness or mischief.

அவர்கள் ஐந்தாறு பேர். திருமண். வைணவ கறை வேஷ்டி. எல்லோரும் ‘வந்தனம்’ சொன்னர், ஒருவரை தவிர. அவர் ‘பரப்ப்ரமமாக’ இருந்தார். வயதானவர். ‘இவருக்கு எதுவுமே ஞாபகம் இல்லை. எல்லா டாக்டரையும் பார்த்தாச்சு. இப்போ, குணசீலம், சோளிங்கர், வரதர்,.. கோவில் எல்லாம் போயிட்டு வரோம். பெரியவாதான் குணப்படுத்தணம்’. ‘விஷ்ணு சஹஸ்ர நாம பாராயண க்ரமத்திலிரிந்து ‘அச்சுதானந்த கோவிந்த நமோ சரண, பேஷஜாத் நஸ்யந்தி சகலா ரோக, சத்யம் சத்யம் வதாம்யஹம்‘ என்ற ஸ்லோகத்தை 108 முறை சொல்லச் சொன்னார். அடுத்தது அவர் சொன்னதுதான் அனைவரயும் அதிர்ச்சி அடைய வைத்தது. பயில்வான் போன்ற ஒருவரை கூப்பிட்டு, ஓங்கி ஒரு குட்டு அக்கிழவரின் தலையில் குட்டச் சொன்னார். அடுத்த நொடி அப்பெரியவர் ‘ஏன்டா ரகு, நாம எங்க இருக்கோம், இது மடம் மாதிரி தெரியறது’ என்றார். எல்லோருக்கும் கண்களில் குளம் கட்டியது. ‘பெரியவா காப்பாத்திட்டேள்’. அவர் எப்போதும் போல் ‘நான் என்ன பண்ணினேன், நீங்க திவ்ய தேசம் போயிட்டு வந்திருக்கேள். அந்த பெருமாள் தான் காப்பாத்தி இருக்கார்’ என்றார்.

Meet Hussain Momin ….A Man who Used His Life Savings For Building a Hospital For Poor …

He made his life on his own. But when it came to giving back to the society, 48-year-old Hussain Momin did not think twice. The illiterate car mechanic has built a hospital for the needy on a plot of land that belonged to his forefathers.
Befittingly named Adarsh Hospital, the multi-specialty facility at Telav village near Sanand on the outskirts of Ahmedabad has a unique payment option.
“The patients can pay whatever they can afford, but the treatment would not stop for money,” says Dr Kartik Shukla, a leading orthopaedic surgeon from Ahmedabad, who heads the hospital.

Shukla is the person who helped Momin materialise his dream of opening a hospital in his village.

Momin was 20 when he left the village to earn bread for his family. A few weeks floating around saw him settling in a garage in Chiloda, near Gandhinagar, where he learned the nuances of vehicle repairing. After fifteen years, Momin decided to head back home.

With over Rs 7 lakh in his pocket, he continued to work as a mechanic near his village, and his good work soon got him business. But despite his business doing great, something was still bothering Momin, and that was the wish to construct a hospital in his village.

The shy garage mechanic refuses to talk much, but Shukla tells how Momin got the hospital constructed in the 1200 sq yard plot that was a family property.

“The location of the plot made it a prime property and Hussain bhai had many offers to sell it off with some offers even going up to Rs 10 crore,” Shukla says. But Momin stuck to his guns, used the money he had saved all these years and finally launched his dream hospital a couple of years ago.

“Unlike urban patients, the rural people rarely plan a treatment and hence seldom have ready cash for it,” Shukla says. While the lack of cash leads to compromise in treatment, he says, many patients are later forced to seek further procedures which often turn complicated.

Explaining the fee structure, Shukla says that while Momin was initially opposed to charging fees, it was decided that though the treatment in the hospital will be chargeable to cover the running cost of the hospital, the patients will be explained the cost of treatment and asked to pay whatever they can.

When Momin asked Shukla to take over the hospital, he had a latent altruistic desire and Shukla decided to take charge of the hospital. Following Shukla, a team of four gynaecologists also agreed to work in the hospital.

“We have three orthopaedic surgeons, four gynaecologists, an ENT surgeon, a dental surgeon, an orthodontist, and an ophthalmologist apart from a general physician and we will soon have a physiotherapist as well. The best part of it is that no doctor has come to this hospital with any terms and conditions,” he says.

Few important steps for you: Treat others in the same way, you would like them to treat you. Never brood over the past; when grief overpowers you, do not recollect similar incidents from your past to add to your grief. Recollect, rather, incidents when you were happy! Draw consolation and strength from them. Raise yourself above the surging waters of sorrow. Women are called ‘weak’ because they yield to anger and sorrow much more easily than men; so I would ask them to take extra pains to overcome these two. Namasmarana (chanting the Lord’s name) is the best antidote for this and if you take it up, the Lord will come to your rescue and instill the faith that everything is God’s Will and teach that you have no right to exult or despair.

Breast milk boosts brain development in babies by up to 30 per cent, according to a new study.

Children exclusively fed breast milk for at least three months have up to 30 per cent extra growth in the key parts of the brain which control language, emotion, and understanding, say scientists.

The study of under-fours showed children who have breast milk as part of their diet have a clear advantage when it comes to brain development.

Research carried out at Brown University, in the U.S., found that by the time the babies had reached their second birthday a discernible difference could be seen in their brain structure.

Dr Sean Deoni, an engineering professor and lead author, said: ‘We’re finding the difference [in white matter growth] is in the order of 20 to 30 per cent, comparing the breastfed and the non-breastfed kids.’

Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) brain scans were taken of the babies who had been fed a diet of breast milk in the earliest stages of their development, and of those who had been fed formula milk.

The scans showed that babies fed breast milk alone had the fastest growth in myelinated white matter – tissue packed full of long nerve fibres that link different parts of the brain that are used for learning.

The babies who were weaned on a diet of formula were found to have the least white matter.

Dr Deoni’s team carried out the study to see how early the changes in brain development took place.

‘We show that they’re there almost right off the bat,’ he said.

Researchers looked at the brains of 133 babies who were born on time and came from similar families.

By comparing the myelin in older and younger children they were able to calculate how breast milk influenced the development of white matter.

The researchers backed up the results of the scans with a set of basic cognitive tests that showed language performance, visual reception and motor control were all better in the breastfed children.

The team found that the longer the babies were fed with breast milk the more developed their brains were, especially in the areas of the brain associated with movement and coordination.

While the Brown study published in the journal NeuroImage is not the first to link breastfeeding with improved development in the young, Dr Deoni claimed it is the first time MRI scans have been used to compare the brains in breastfed and non-breastfed children.

Dr Deoni said: ‘I think it’s astounding that you could have that much difference so early. I think I would argue that combined with all the other evidence, it seems like breastfeeding is absolutely beneficial.

கண்ணதாசனை மாற்றிய காஞ்சிப் பெரியவர்

சாண்டோ சின்னப்ப தேவரும் கண்ணதாசனும் ஒரு படப்பிடிப்பு சம்பந்தமாக காரில் போய்க் கொண்டிருந்தபோது மிக மோசமான விபத்து ஏற்பட்டது. அதில் சின்னப்பா தேவருக்கு அவ்வளவாகக் காயம் இல்லை. ஆனால் கண்ணதாசனுக்கு படுகாயம் ஏற்பட்டு நினைவிழந்த நிலையில் மருத்துவமனையில் இருந்தார்.

காஞ்சிப் பெரியவரிடம் மிகுந்த பக்தியும் மரியாதையும் கொண்ட தேவர் அவர்கள், சிவஸ்தானம் எனப்படும் பிரம்மபுரீஸ்வரர் கோவிலில் பெரியவரைப் பார்த்து வணங்கி ‘விபத்து நேர்ந்து விட்டது’ என்று சொன்ன மாத்திரத்தில் ‘கண்ணதாசன் எப்படியிருக்கிறான்’ என்றும் பெரியவர் கேட்க, அதிர்ந்து போனார் தேவர். கண்கள் கலங்க வியப்பும் வருத்தமுமாய் “அவர் படுகாயத்துடன் நினைவில்லாமல் மருத்துவமனையில் இருக்கிறார்” என நா தழுதழுக்கக் கூறினார்.

தேவரின் கவலையை உணர்ந்த பெரியவர், ‘சரி, கவலைப்படாதே. இந்த விபூதியைக் கொண்டுபோய், அவன் நெற்றியில் இட்டு, வாயிலும் சிறிதளவு போடு, மீதி இருப்பதை அவன் தலையணைக்குக் கீழ் வைத்துவிடு’ என்று தன் திருக்கரங்களால் விபூதி எடுத்து மடித்துத் தர, தேவர் விதிர் விதிர்த்து, பெரியவரை மறுத்துப் பேசவும் துணிவின்றி தயங்க, மீண்டும் பெரியவரின் கட்டளைக்கிணங்கி தயக்கத்தோடு கைநீட்டி விபூதியைப் பெறுகிறார்.

தேவரின் தயக்கத்திற்குக் காரணம், கண்ணதாசன் நாத்திகத்தில் தீவிர ஈடுபாடு கொண்டு, திராவிட கட்சிகளின் சார்பில் பிராமணர்களையும் சனாதன தர்மத்தையும் நாக்கில் நரம்பில்லாது போல் மேடைகளில் பேசி வந்த காலகட்டம் அது. விபத்து நடந்த ஒரு வாரத்திற்கு முன்புதான் காஞ்சிபுரம் சங்கர மடத்திற்கு எதிரிலேயே நடந்த கூட்டத்தின் மேடையில் படுபயங்கரமாகப் பேசி மடாதிபதிகளை இழிவுபடுத்திப் பேசியிருந்தார். எனவே அவரிடம் போய் இந்த விபூதியை எப்படிக் கொடுப்பது என்பதுதான் தேவரின் பெரியத் தயக்கமாயிருந்தது.

ஆனால் முக்காலமுணர்ந்த ஞானியாகிய பெரியவர், தேவரின் மனத்தயக்கத்தை உணர்ந்து ‘தயங்காமல் கொண்டுபோய் பூசு. சூரியனை சில சமயம் மேகம் மறைப்பது போல் நாத்திகமேகம் இதுவரை அவனை மறைத்திருந்தது. இனி அவன் சூரியனாகத் திகழ்வான். அவன் எப்பேர்ப்பட்ட பரம்பரையைச் சேர்ந்தவன் தெரியுமா? கோவில் திருப்பணி செய்வதற்கே பிறந்தவர்கள் போல் திகழ்ந்தவர்கள் நாட்டுக்கோட்டைச் செட்டியார்கள். வரதராஜப் பெருமாள் கோவில் கோபுரத் திருப்பணியைச் செய்தவர் கண்ணதாசனின் கொள்ளுத் தாத்தா. ஏகாம்பரநாதர் கோவில் திருப்பணியைச் செய்தவர் கண்ணதாசனின் தாத்தா. காமாக்ஷி கோவில் திருப்பணியைச் செய்தவர் கண்ணதாசனின் தகப்பனார். இப்ப புரியறதா?’ என திருவாய் மலர்ந்தருளினார்.

தேவர் மனந்தெளிந்தவராய் பெரியவரை வணங்கி விடைபெற்று, நேராக மருத்துவமனைக்குச் சென்றார். நினைவிழந்து படுத்திருந்த கண்ணதாசனின் நெற்றியில் விபூதியைப் பூசிவிட்டு சிறிது விபூதியை வாயிலும் இட்டு, மீதியை தலையணையின் கீழ் வைத்துவிட்டு வீடு திரும்பினார். அவர் சிந்தனையெல்லாம் கண்ணதாசன் நினைவு திரும்பி நடந்ததை அறிந்து என்ன சொல்வாரோ என்றே நினைத்தது.

மறுநாள் தேவர் மருத்துவமனை சென்று கண்ணதாசனின் படுக்கையை சற்றே படபடக்கும் நெஞ்சோடு நெருங்கியபோது கண்ணதாசனுக்கு நினைவு திரும்பி கண் விழித்திருந்தார். தேவரைப் பார்த்தவுடன், ‘வாங்க, எத்தனை நாளா இப்படி படுக்கையில் இருக்கேன். கொஞ்சம் கண்ணாடியை எடுத்துக் கொடுங்களேன். என் முகத்தைப் பார்க்கணும்’ என்றார். நேற்று இட்ட விபூதி இன்னமும் நெற்றியில் திகழ, தேவர் தயங்கியபடியே தந்த கண்ணாடியில் தன் முகம் கண்ட கண்ணதாசன் ‘இதென்ன விபூதி?’ என்று தேவரை ஏறிட்டுப் பார்க்க, வேறு வழியின்றி வந்தது வரட்டுமென தேவர், தான் பெரியவரைப் பார்த்ததையும், பெரியவர் ஆசீர்வாதம் செய்து விபூதி கொடுத்ததையும் சொல்ல, கண்ணதாசனின் விழிகளில் அருவியெனக் கொட்டியது கண்ணீர். திகைத்து நின்ற தேவரின் செவிகளில் தேனாகப் பாயந்தது கண்ணதாசனின் வார்த்தைகள், ‘எனக்கா? என்னிடமா இவ்வளவு கருணை? போனவாரம்தான் அவரை, ஐயோ’ என வாய்விட்டுப் புலம்பி அழுததோடு, தேவரிடம் ஒரு வேண்டுகோளையும் சமர்ப்பித்தார். ‘எனக்கு உடல்நலமாகி மருத்துவமனையிலிருந்து வெளியேறும் சமயம் நான் வீட்டிற்குச் செல்லமாட்டேன். இந்தப் பாவியிடம் கருணைவைத்த அந்த மகானிடம் முதலில் என்னை தயவுசெய்து அழைத்துச் செல்லுங்கள்’ என மனமுருகி வேண்டினார்.

கண்ணதாசன் வேண்டியபடியே அந்த நல்ல சந்திப்பும், பாவமன்னிப்பும் நடந்தது. மாறியது மனம், நன்றியில் ஊறியது தினம், வீறிட்டு வெளிவந்தது ஒரு கவிதை. அக்கவிதையை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு, பெரியவரை நேரில் கண்டு வணங்கி, கவிதையைச் சமர்ப்பித்தார், கண்ணதாசன். அக்கவிதை இதோ :

பார்த்த மாத்திரத்தில் பாவத்தை அலம்புகின்ற
தீர்த்தப் பெருக்கு, திருவாசகத்தின் உட்கருத்து
கூர்த்த மதியால் மெய்ஞானக் கருத்துணர்த்தும் முழுமூர்த்தம்
கலிமொய்க்கும் இவ்வுலகைக் காக்கவந்த கண்கண்ட தெய்வம்
எம்மதத்தோரும் சம்மதத்துடன் தம்மதத் தலைவனென
தொழுதேத்தும் தெய்வக் கமலக் கழல் தொழுவோம் வாரீர்!

கவிதை வரிகளைக் கண்ட பெரியவர், கண்ணதாசனைக் கனிவோடு நோக்கி, ‘அனந்த கோடி அற்புத லீலா சாகித்ய மாயமானுஷாய நமோ நமஹ, அர்த்தநாரி திருவண்ணாமலை சேஷாத்ரி மகானுக்கல்லவா இது பொருந்தும்’ என்று அருளாசிக் கூறி, ‘அங்கிங்கெனாதபடி எங்கும் நிறைந்திருக்கும் நிர்மலப் பொருள் ஞானசூரியனாம், மதத்தின் பெருமையை எழுது’ என்று திருவாய் மலர்ந்தருள, அக்கணமே கண்ணதாசனின் மனதில் “அர்த்தமுள்ள இந்துமதம்” அழகாய் அரும்பி பலநாள் உழைப்பில் இதழ்விரித்து மணம் வீசியது.

Fear is the mother of falsehood. If you have no fear, you will adhere to truth. The mirror of love reflects the Divine Self within you and reveals to you that the Divine Self within you is Universal and is immanent in every being.
