Message For The Day….Earn Your Status In the Realm of GOD !!!

Conceit or egoism is a fatal weakness. It is the desire to be praised, to be talked about. People take delight in tom-tomming their achievements and capabilities. This actually makes them ludicrous and pitiable. They want their names and deeds to appear in the daily newspapers in big bold letters. Please understand, it is not in the newspapers that you should get attention. Earn your status in the realm of God. Earn fame in the company of the good and godly. If you are forever in the primary class working on A, B, C and other alphabets, how can you understand what the scholars say? Make progress in being humble and in showing reverence towards elders and parents.

Polar Bear Tries to Hitch a Lift on a Pickup Truck !!!!

They are known for being one of the most fearless predators on the earth.
So few people would relish getting up this close and personal with a giant polar bear – let alone get their camera out and start snapping away.
For half an hour, this cheeky polar bear was fascinated by a truck, and even climbed inside to investigate.

How would you react? When this giant polar bear showed an interest in this truck, the driver and photographer took out his camera and starting taking pictures

How would you react? When this giant polar bear showed an interest in this truck, the driver and photographer took out his camera and starting taking pictures

The curious animal sniffed and inspected the vehicle from the outside before casually clambering aboard.

However, the truck must not have been up to scratch because the 7ft bear, weighing approximately 300lbs, promptly jumped back out and sauntered off.

This amazing sequence of events took place on Barter Island in the eastern Alaskan Arctic and according photographer Steve Kazlowski, who has been photographing polar bears for the last 15 years, this kind of behaviour is not that unusual.

Too close for comfort: The polar bear seemed fascinated with Mr Kazlowski and his truck, staring at him through the window

Eye level: He then jumped up on his back legs to get an even closer look at the driver

Investigating: Keeping a close eye on the driver, the polar bear then walked around to the back of the vehicle

Mr Klazowski captured the close encounter from a distance, watching the giant animal investigating every inch of the truck.

He said: ‘It’s definitely not rare for a sub-adult polar bear, as this one was, about five years old, as they are very curious by nature.

‘The older they get, the smarter they get, and they stop doing such risky things.

‘Mentally they grow with age about what is smart to do and not do.’
Curious: The enormous animal seemed more interested in what was in the back of the truck and got up on his back legs to take a look

To the shock of the driver, the fearless predator jumped into the back of his truck, squeezing its enormous body through the opening

Unimpressed: But the bear seemed unimpressed with the inside of the vehicle and promptly did an about turn and leaped back out

Polar bears are a threatened species and one of the main risks for them in the Alaskan arctic is the loss of sea ice as a habitat.

When ice packs pull away from the shore the bears can become stranded hundreds of miles out at sea leaving them open to starvation or drowning, said Mr Kazlowski.

So by taking their pictures, especially in ‘intimate’ situations, is an important way of raising awareness, he believes.
Photographer Steve Kazlowski, who has been photographing polar bears for the last 15 years, said this kind of behaviour was not that unusual, especially in inquisitive young polar bears

He added: ‘Creating the images and getting them out, first of all, shows that these animals exist in this area which is the Alaskan arctic, and capturing images as intimate as I try to capture them, hopefully causes people to stop and reflect on what is going on in the world with over consumption of natural resources.’

“Help Me Mom …I am stuck !!!”….SOS From a Baby Elephant !!!

They say that an elephant’s family ties can be stronger than those of even the closest knit human clan.
And the bond between this elephant calf and its relatives probably saved this youngster’s life when his family rallied round to save him from drowning when he got stuck on a muddy river bank.
A touching set of pictures taken in the Sabah region of Borneo show the calf getting into difficulty as it tried to clamber up the steep bank after crossing the river Kinabatangan with his mother

Family affair: The elephant clings closely to his relatives after they came to his aid when he got stuck on a muddy river bank

Mother's love: The elephant had got stuck on the muddy bank after swimming across the river with his mother. He she is pictured helping him out of the water

Slippery: While the adult elephant has no problems getting to grips with the mud, the baby struggles to get a grip without falling over

Not moving: The distressed elephant is unable to make it to the safety of the trees and is seen slipping

Helping hand: The elephant has nearly made it to the top of the bank thanks to a little help from his mother

Distressed: But the elephant slips in the mud once again

With the youngster distressed, mother tries to come to his aid by pushing him up the bank with her trunk.

But the task proves too tricky for her on her own.

Given the animals’ traditionally close family bonds, it is no surprise that two relatives came to the rescue.

The pair managed to flatten the mud around the calf, making it easier for him to climb to safety.

Once the calf is safe, the adult group gather round him as he clings close to his mother’s legs in an adorable show of unity.

Photographer Beniot Goossens, of the Danau Girang Field Centre in Sabah, said that it took all three adults about half an hour to get the baby on its way again.

He said: ‘The mother and baby were crossing the river but the bank proved too steep for the calf.

‘The mother tried to push it but she couldn’t manage on her own so called on two members of her family.

‘While the mother pushed the others flattened the mud to make it more accessible for the calf. About half an hour later they were all on their way.’

Benoit described the sight as ’emotional’.

He added: ‘I’ve been studying elephants for many years but some of the students I was with were blown away by the elephants’ behaviour.

‘It goes to show that animals often take care of each other better than humans.’

Elephants are known for living in tight knit matriarchal families with the adult females looking after their sick, injured, or orphaned offspring.

Like human offspring, calves remain with their mothers until they are teenagers, with some female elephants known to stay with their parent for their entire lives.

Elephants usually give birth to one calf every two to four years with their babies already weighing around 200lbs when born and standing at 3ft tall.
They eventually grow to up to 9.8ft tall and consume a staggering 270kg of food a day.

Asian elephants have been domesticated for thousands of years. The powerful beasts have been employed to move heavy objects, such as felled trees, to carry humans on their backs, and even to wage war.

Just For Laugh !!!….”When we do not know where we are going , journey is the reward” !!!

A day after the Independence Day, the Queen’s durbar was in session.
To her left sat mauni baba with his head down and his eyes looking at his feet.
To her write sat the yuvraaj, the man who refused to grow up, fiddling with his new Apple iPhone.
Standing in front of her was the man who always wore the white veshti.

“So why is your veshti not spotlessly white today,” asked the Queen as she started the proceedings for the day.
“Oh, yesterday the wife decided to host an Independence day lunch and asked me to get two kgs of onions,” replied the man who always wore the white veshti, rather matter of factly.

“So?” asked the queen.
“Well, after buying two kgs of onion, I did not have enough money left to buy a Surf Excel sachet. You know, to wash one veshti properly takes one sachet.”

“Oh. I don’t know what this Power Man is upto. He doesn’t seem to understand that many elections have been lost on the price of onions,” lamented the queen.

“Yes madam,” replied the man who always wore the white veshti. “But he will win only if the onion prices keep going up.”

“Anyway so tell me what are we going about the rupee?” asked the Queen. “I gather this morning it even touched 62 to a dollar.”

“Rupee, rupee, rupee,” the yuvraaj said before the man who always wore the white veshti could say anything. “Robert keeps talking about them all the time.”

“Shh! Shutup,” said the queen. “Ah. I so wish that my son had married and my daughter had not.”
“Madam we are doing a lot of things to stop the fall of the rupee.”

“Like what?”

“On Wednesday I got the Reserve Bank to put in capital controls.”

“Capital controls”

“Yeah. Like Indian citizens can no longer buy property abroad.”

“That’s good. Anyway there is so much land in the country, why do they need to buy property abroad,” replied the queen. “They can always buy land in Gurgaon.”

“Like Robert, like Robert,” the yuvraaj interrupted again.

The man who always wore the white veshti ignored the interruption and carried on with his explanations.

“We also slashed the amount of money Indian citizens can remit abroad every year to $75,000, from the earlier $200,000. We have raised the import duty on gold and silver to 10%. We have also made it more difficult for Indian companies to invest abroad. All this to make sure that the demand for dollars goes down and the rupee recovers.”

“But it doesn’t seem to be helping,” said the queen. “Does it?”

“You know Ma, what this reminds me of?” the yuvraaj got into the conversation again.

“What beta?” asked the Queen lovingly.

“I recently read this lovely book called Through the Looking Glass, written by Lewis Carrol.”
“Good beta. You should read more instead of fidgeting around with that phone of yours all day long.”
“And the book had a Queen.”

“Really? Like me?”
“Yes, the Red Queen. And there is something that she says in the book that makes immense sense.”
“And what is that beta?”

“As the lines from the book go: “”A slow sort of country!” said the (Red) Queen. “Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!””

“Ah, smart boy. Now I really know what is happening. We are not running fast enough. Also let the records of the meeting show that I said that. It’s such a smart thing to say.”

“Yes Madam. That’s what I have been trying to tell Subbu of the Reserve Bank,” said the man who always wore the white veshti, trying to save himself and pass on the blame.
“Call Subbu here at once,” roared the Queen.

“Yes Madam, in fact he is waiting outside,” said the man who always wore the white veshti.

So within five minutes Subbu was brought in. He looked very happy with not a care in the world.

“So Mr Subbu will you care to explain why are we not running fast enough when it comes to preventing the rupee fall,” asked the Queen.

“Madam, to be honest, there is nothing much we can do. The solution to the crisis is very simple. We need to cut down on our oil imports, our coal imports, our edible oil imports and our fertilizer imports. And I guess you know what will happen if we do that? At the same time we need to increase our exports manifold. And that won’t happen unless the physical infrastructure is improved. We need better ports, better roads and a better rail network. All this is not going to happen overnight, given that it has not happened in years. Also, Indian companies have borrowed too much money in dollars and all that needs to be repaid now. The NRIs are also looking to withdraw all the money they had deposited with Indian banks,” came a long answer from Subbu till he was stopped by the yuvraaj.

“In short we are screwed,” exclaimed the yuvraaj.

“So the demand for dollars will continue. The rupee will continue to be under pressure. We cannot sell dollars to control the rupee fall because we have just enough dollars to cover around six and a half months of imports. And that is a very low level. So we can only run to keep in the same place. In fact, we may not be able to do even that,” said Subbu, very matter of factly.

“Oh. But you could still do something about it?” asked the Queen.

“Madam, my time is up. I am going back to Telangana. I have bought a nice house in Nizamabad. And will spend the next few years watching the mythological movies of the late NT Rama Rao garu. It’s up to the Professor now,” said Subbu as he left the room.

“And why is the stock market down by more than 500 points this morning?” asked the ‘worried’ Queen again.
“Basically the foreign investors have now started to fear that we may not allow them to take their money back.”
“Oh, but why? I know of no such plans.”

“Madam, we have reduced the amount of money that Indians could remit abroad to $75,000 from $200,000. So the belief in the market is that our next step will be not allowing foreign investors to take their money back.”

“So?”

“So they are selling out of the stock market, converting their rupees into dollars and taking their money back, before we do any such thing. A similar things seems to be happening in the bond market.”

“Ah. All seems to be going wrong for me,” lamented the Queen. “I had such great plans for the yuvraaj.”
“Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be),” played on yuvraaj’s iPhone as the Queen decided to call it a day.

And finally the mauni baba woke up and said something.
“When we don’t know where we are going the journey is the reward.”

Message For The Day….Concentrate on Your Mind Too !!!

Each and every one of you has a great deal of concentration. For, every task requires concentration and every one of you have benefitted from it. The carpenter, the weaver, the clerk, the boatman, the scientist, all have it, greater or lesser, and use it in their daily lives. You must learn to apply it towards your own mind also. Direct the mind towards its own working, examine it and train it to restrict itself to good company, good thoughts and good deeds. Practise meditation on any Form of the Lord, and repeat any Name of the Lord, with the awareness of its sweetness. That will teach the mind to be sharp, and produce good music out of the joys as well as the grief that are incidental to life.

Cub-side Down !!!…Young Lions Demonstrate Their Fighting Skills !!!

Pictures of these cute but feisty lion cubs show them testing out their fledgling fighting skills in the Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya.

The spirited youngsters were caught on camera getting their claws out for a play fight, before a mature female lion and the rest of the pride intervened.

Like real-life versions of Disney’s Lion King characters Simba and Nala, the cubs tried out their best moves on each other, even managing a backflip at one point.

Don't mess with the Lioness. . .

Wading in: The rest of the pride became embroiled as they separated the warring youngsters

Photographer Manoj Shah caught the touching scenes as he studied their pride over three months.

He managed to capture not just the youngsters but also the adults at play.

In his series of photographs Manoj shows Africa’s top predators fighting for control of the pride.

Lions in the Masai Mara tend to live in grassland habitat, grouped into families called prides.

Although they are famous for hunting other animals they also sleep a lot and have a playful side
Ouch: A mature female in the pride stepped into stop the fighting in the Great Rift Valley, landing a swift tap on the nose to one of the scrapping cubs

After the intervention the contrite cubs eventually called off their feud

Manoj said: ‘Play is motivated by instinct – when the environment is safe and secure – with mum nearby – and food is easily obtained the cubs will play.

‘Over the course of studying these lions I photographed every age group at play, from the large males, down to the juveniles and the cubs.

‘There’s definitely a softer side to these mighty animals.’

Mahatma Gandhiji”s Meeting with Mahaperiavar ….Way Back in 1927 !!!!

Mahathma Gandhi was touring the South India in the latter half of 1927. He had heard about the Sage of Kamakotipeetam and wished very much to meet him. The sage was camping at palghat [Pallakad] at the time in the course of his vijaya-yatra. The Mahatma Gandhi went there on the 15th October, 1927. The meeting took at place on that day at Nellisseri village, palghat, Kerala.

His, Holiness received the Mahatma in the cattle-shed situated in the backyard of the camp. It was a unique experience for the Mahatma. Here was an authentic successor of Sankara, dressed in a piece of’ ochre cloth made of khadi, and seated on the floor. The Acharya too appreciated the occasion provided for getting to know, at first hand, the leader of the nation who had adopted voluntarily the mode of a simple peasant’s life. At the very first sight, the Mahatma was drawn to the Perfection Incarnate that was seated before him. The atmosphere was surcharged with spiritual silence. After a few moments the Acharya spoke in Samskrit and invited the Mahatma to take his seat. Gandhiji offered his obeisance and sat near the Acharya. He said that, as he was not used to speaking in Samskrit, he would use Hindi if that was permitted, and that he could understand what is spoken in Samskrit. So, the conversation took place without the need for an interpreter-the Acharya spoke in Samskrit, and Gandhiji in Hindi.

This was purely a private interview; there were no reporters; and except for one or two attendants of the math, no one was present. The conversation, which took place in a most cordial atmosphere, lasted for over an hour.

On taking leave of the Acharya, the Mahatma gave expression to the immense benefit he had derived from this unique meeting. How profoundly he was drawn to the Acharya will be evident from an incident that occurred during the interview. It was 5.30 in the evening. Sri C. Rajagopalachari who had accompanied the Mahatma had been waiting outside, went inside the cattle-shed and reminded the Mahatma about his evening meal; for the Mahatma would not take any food after 6 P.M. The Mahatma made this significant observation to Sri. C. Rajagopalachari: “The conversation I am having now with the Acharya is itsclf my evening meal for to day” As the Mahatma was leaving ,after a very fruitful interview, the Acharya gave him a pomelo fruit with his blessings. The Mahatma received it with great reverence, remarking that pomelo is a fruit which he liked best

Later in the evening, Gandhiji addressed a public meeting in Coimbatore. Some people in the audience were eager to know about the interview Gandhiji had had earlier with His holiness. Gandhiji replied saying that they discussed points of mutual interest, that the interview was a private one, that because of this, news paper reporters were not present there and that there was no point in his disclosing the details of the interview. Nothing more was known about this historic meeting.

A request was made to His Holiness in November 1968 for a message of the Seminar on The relevance of Mahatma Gandhi to the world of thought held at the University of Madras. Out of his abundant grace, Jagadguru, the preceptor of the World, sent a message in which he recalled the meeting in 1927 with Gandhiji the Father of the Nation and paid the following tribute:

“We wish to place before this Seminar one of the’ many things which Gandhi and I we discussed when we met at Palghat, Kerala in the last Prashava year. Before Gandhiji arrived at Palghat there came the news of the assassination of Sraddhananda of the Arya Samaj. Referring to this incident Gandhiji remarked as follows:

“I have an apprehension in my mind that assassination of this kind would occur more often than now [in the coming years] Let not there arise in me hatred even in a small measure against the present assassin. There arises a desire in me that I should able to embrace with love even so cruel a man who commits a heinous crime, as this one, an atatayin. But it is extremely difficult to cultivate such heartfelt affection. Yet I shall make an honest attempt in this direction.”

All that we wish to point out is that, in this world it is very rare even to hear about such a feeling expressed”.

The conversation that took place is now for you to read.
Excerpts from “A Succinct Biography”

The details of the conversation between the great men remained a complete secret, since no one else was allowed inside. Even till long after Gandhiji’s demise, the Acharya did not reveal anything about the conversation, in spite of the repeated requests of ardent, interested devotees. But later some details came out. About a year after the return of His Holiness to Kanchi, after the prolonged tour on foot, for six years, a letter was published in the name of a Professor Swaminathan, in an issue of Statesman (Calcutta). The professor was then editing the works of Mahatma Gandhi. The letter contained some details about the conversation between the Acharya and Gandhiji. The letter was perused by His Holiness. Sri Neelam Raju Venkateseshayya, (then editor of Andhra Prabha) had often entreated the Acharya to narrate details of the conversation between the Acharya and Gandhiji in 1927. But the Acharya Swami, once (years ago) told Sri Seshayya, “You have been always asking me about my talk with Gandhiji. None except the two of us knows anything about our talk. Now Gandhiji is no more. Suppose,I reveal the details of our conversation, will it not give rise to a doubt about its truth in the minds of Gandhiji’s followers?”. Sri Seshayya felt that a great secret of dharma had been revealed by the Acharya. In the letter published in the Stateman giving some details regarding the conversation between the two great men , it was stated that Gandhiji had informed SriKishore Lal Masurvala, a resident of Gandhiji’s ashrama and Srimati Ganga Ben Vaidya, about some of the details of his talk with the Kanchi Acharya. In the middle of June1985, Sri Venkataseshayya was summoned to Kanchi. When he reached Kanchi, His Holiness asked him to read the letter published in the Statesman and then said to him, “Now that some parts of the talk that transpired between Gandhiji and me have been published, I shall comply with your repeated requests concerning the same”. (The conversation between His Holiness and Sri Seshayya was in Telugu language and it has been translated into English)

A=Acharya, G=Gandhi

A : “I appreciate your pointing out about a good thing to mankind. Energy isessential for leading a righteous life. Danger only will result by leading a life based onphysical entities bereft of religion.”

G : “Yes, I do understand”.

A : “Our Bharat is one of the very ancient countries of the world. Our country isendowed with old, excellent learning and with an ancient culture. In the past, peoplefollowed the social dictum of Varnashrama Dharma, they were engaged in the activitiesassigned to them, and thereby protected their dharma and enjoyed happiness in the worldand in the next”.

G : “Modern society is different from the society of the past. Will it be possible togo along with the ancient ideals of social life?”
A : “ The quality of cold water is different from the quality of hot water. If both get mixed they will loose their natural characteristics and become useless. Society of course will not be uniform. For instance take a mango tree. It has several branches. In these branches flowers blossom and mangoes emerge at different times. But the tree is only one. Society is, like the tree, only one. Even as the different branches and the trunk combine into tree, all castes together form society. Nowadays, politicians enter the fields of religion and society and try to make in roads into them and to change them. And this had weakened our religion, and altogether changed the smooth running of the world”.

G : “I concur with the opinion of your Holiness”.

A : “What is the necessity for the removal of untouchability?”

G : “Among the people of Bharatadesa, besides Hindus, there are Muslims, Christians, and also some other religionists. Hence it seems to me that untouchability needs to be removed, what does your Holiness think about entry of the untouchables in totemples”?

A : “Temples are sacred places. They are intended for those who believe that God is enshrined in the Sanctum sanctorum of the temple. The Agamas extol the sacred nature of the temples. Those who do not have faith in the Agama Shastras and those who do not accept the principles enunciated by the Agamas in connection with the purity and sanctity of the temple are decidedly unfit for entering our temples”.(Later after a talk between the two for more than twenty minutes over other problems, almost towards the end, the conversation turned on to the murder of Swami Sraddhananda).

A : ‘I suppose, you know about how Swami Sradddhananda has been killed by a Muslim recently”.

G : “Yes. In the present condition of our land how can we attain unity amidst Hindus and Muslims”.

A : “In case a Hindu kills you or me in the future, can we hate the entire Hindu community on that count?”(In the letter of Sri Swaminathan published in the Statesman(1985), he has hinted that Rajaji expressed to his friends, the prophetic remark of His Holiness immediately after the assassination of the Mahatma).

Message From Mahaperiavar on 15 AUG 1947….

MESSAGE GIVEN BY HIS HOLINESS PUJYASHRI CHANDRASEKHARENDRA SARASWATHI MAHASWAMIJI on 15 AUGUST 1947 – Independence Day

On this happy occasion when our country Bharat has attained Independence, the people of this ancient country must pray whole heartedly and with one mind to Sri Bhagavan. Let us all pray to God to vouch safe to us strength of mind and energy to engage ourselves more and more in attaining spiritual knowledge. It is only by the grace of Almighty that we can safeguard the freedom that we have achieved and also help all the living beings on earth to lead a happy life.

It is worthy to note that luckily the Chakra of Bhagavan, who is the embodiment of Dharma, has its place in the centre of our National Flag. This Chakra reminds us of the moral values enjoined by Emperor Ashoka, who is historically famous as Devanampriyaha. Further, the Chakra makes us contemplate on the spiritual discipline imparted by Bhagavan Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita. That Dharma which shines in the form of a Chakra is clear from Lord Krishna’s reference to the Chakra as “Evam pravartitam chakram” in Verse 16 of the III chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. Also in Verses 14 and 15 of the same chapter Bhagavan avers that ” The human body originates from food, food grains grow because of rains, rain showers because of performance of Yajnas(Vedic Sacrifices), these Yajnas are prescribed in the Veda and that the Veda has emanated from Brahman who is in the form of Akshara(Sound recorded as letter of the alphabet)”. Thus, the Dharma Chakra explains to us that the supreme Brahman is manifest in Vedic sacrifices. May this Independence, dawning with the rightful remembrance of Emperor Ashoka, grant us such fruits as Aram(Dharma or Righteousness) Porul(Wealth), Inbam(Happiness) and Veedu(Moksha – deliverance), by the grace of God.

There are three stripes in our National Flag. They are of dark green, white and orange colours. These colours seem to indicate to us, that military strength for protection from enemies and evil, wealth for welfare and prosperity, and knowledge for the sake of proper administration are essential for the nation. It may be remembered that dark green is the colour of Durga – the Parasakti who is the mother protector, Mahalakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity is of orange colour(golden hue) and Saraswathi the source divine of all knowledge is white in colour. It is a happy coincidence that the colour of the three Shakthis(Goddesses of Power) are seen in the three stripes of the National Flag.

For long, the Indian Nation has strived hard for winning freedom. By the grace of God, by the blessings of great men, and by the unique sacrifice of the people, independence has been won. Let us all pray to the Omnipresent God to shower his grace so that with the hard won freedom, our country becomes prosperous, is rid of famine, and there are no social skirmishes and the entire nation lives in an atmosphere of amity and kindness.

Now that freedom has been attained by the nation, all of us must also try to develop Independence. If we understand ourselves fully we may consider ourselves as independent. We are not capable of controlling the senses. We are unable to suppress desire and control anger, which always troubles us. Whichever thing in whatever measure we obtain does not lead us to contentment. Worldly sufferings cause worry to us. The mind gets confused on noticing these sufferings. What is the way out of all these? we must try to control, albeit gradually the mind which has been functioning vigorously for such a long time. Once the mind is set at rest, we will not be in need of anything. That state of mind which ensures complete freedom is what we must attempt to achieve.

Every day atleast some time should be set apart for practising the control of mind and bereft of other thoughts, we must meditate upon God. Then gradually, the mind will become calm, whereupon we will have the mental power to subjugate desire and anger. Spiritual knowledge will accrue fast for him who practises such meditation. Only these who attain such true spiritual knowledge can truly be independent citizens.

Any woman other than one’s wife must be respected as one’s own mother. We must regard other living beings as we would regard ourselves. Even at the risk of death, truth alone must be spoken. Petty social feuds must be averted totally, Every one must strive for improving his knowledge and his spiritual attainments and move with others in an atmosphere of kindness. We must sincerely wish that all people should live happily and peacefully.

Cargo Loader Yesterday…. CEO Today !!! Meet Sudheer Nair !!!

Sudheer Nair, CEO, Eresource Infotech Pvt Ltd

Sudheer Nair dropped out of high school at age 16 and is currently operating Eresource Infotech whose annual turnover is Rs 8.1 crore. Read on to know his inspiring journey to success…

Necessity is the mother of invention, adversity must be the father of entrepreneurship.

For Sudheer Nair, founder and CEO of Eresource Infotech, adversity brought out the best in him.

That coupled with sheer grit and conviction has helped him lead a Rs 8.1 crore ERP firm today.

Sudheer’s is a classic tale of rags-to-riches.

He comes from a lower middle class family, and does not have any ivy-league credentials attached to his name.

He had to discontinue his education at the age of 16, due to the sudden demise of his father and the ensuing financial difficulties.

The situation forced him to search for jobs to support his family.

Initially he ended up doing odd jobs, which included that of a helper’s job at Sahar Cargo Complex, Mumbai. But the enthusiasm he had towards life and the wish to progress, has made him what he is today.

On a few occasions, documentations were required at the Cargo Complex and that was Nair’s introduction to the typewriter, eventually transforming him into an expert typist.

Next, he took up the job of typing programmes for a programmer and looking at his ability to learn fast, Nair was given an opportunity to learn computers.

Gradually, he started generating software codes independently for the company.

Nair loved what he was doing and that helped him learn the subject at a deeper level.

Someone has said that when god is shy to announce HIS presence, HE appears in the form of an opportunity. That opportunity was given to me, when somebody asked me to type Bill of Lading at Sahar Cargo complex. You need to start from somewhere. Dr Abdul Kalam started his career as a newspaper boy. Once you have the determination and will power you always move forward. I took the loading job because my family’s financial situation demanded that. It was a short stint. I knew I had to move out. Life must be like a flowing river. I believe in that and am still living with that spirit,” says Nair of the beliefs and situations that have shaped his life.

The entrepreneur never enrolled for any formal course in computers, but says he was extremely lucky and blessed to have met incredibly talented people in his life and had the privilege to hang out with them.

“I did not know any technical people and had zero guidance when I started my career. I would ruthlessly read through technical books. I spent hundreds of hours reading and practicing programmes,” says Nair while recollecting his days of struggle.

His entry into the field of ERP was also by chance.

While working with Afternoon, a daily in Mumbai, he had developed a smaller version of ERP for the daily.

That gave him the confidence to start on his own and ERP was his obvious choice to start up with.

But before he did that, Nair worked for 15 years in Dubai as a software professional.

He started as a software developer and was the Senior Enterprise Manager, when he quit.

“It was a 400-million-dollar company and I was working on enterprise solution. You learn a lot in the process,” he says.

When he started Eresource Infotech in 2006, the ERP market was worth $14 billion and Sudheer saw enough opportunity in the space.

“The urge to do things on my own was getting on my head and that feeling forced me to quit my job in Dubai and start-up,” he says.

Sudheer started by bootstrapping and with the support of Vivek Jingade, who now heads the sales and marketing for Eresource Infotech, began his entrepreneurial journey.

“Vivek has been with Eresource since inception and without him we could not have achieved what we are today,” Nair says in praise of Jingade.

Sudheer Nair started with a small team and today Eresource has over 100 employees, across a variety of functions.

He says he never had any problem in finding talent, even as a start-up.

“I don’t think there is any shortage of talent in Mumbai. What is important is the selection process — getting the best from the lot,” he says.

Today the company has over 300 clients and about 25,000 users on Eresource ERP.

A majority of their clients are from India, particularly Mumbai and Northern states; they also have many clients in the Middle East and few other Asian countries.

The biggest player in the ERP space is SAP followed by Oracle, so Sudheer decided they would try and play the cloud card.

“We have everything that our competitors can offer, and while some of their solutions may still reside on a local server, Eresource is 100 per cent web based ERP solution. Our competitors don’t really care about localisation, but we make sure our solutions can cater to requirements needed as per Indian statutory and regulatory needs,” explains Sudheer.

Eresource is now launching ‘eresource ExV2’ (eresource Express Version 2) — a new release of Eresource.

“Eresource ExV2 will have compatibility with hand held device, mobile and would be technology independent,” he shares.

Eresource currently works with about 80 to 90 channel partners where 8 are affiliate partners, while the rest are referral partners.

Their customers love them because they undertake the entire implementation and post deployment activities and responsibilities.

“We engage with our customers at great lengths to understand their requirement and then accordingly package the solution and deploy it. This has resulted in zero failure rates,” Nair proudly claims.

The company is looking at appointing partners in each geographic region and has plans to appoint about 30 channel partners, which will help them scale up.

Looking back at his journey, Nair admits it’s hardly been a bed of roses: “I cannot pin-point the difficulties I have faced to set up this company. There are numerous.”

Though financial problems are on top of list, he considers his biggest capital to be the talent at Eresource.

Over the years, Eresource has won many prestigious industrial awards, including the Udyog Rattan Award and Business Excellence Award for the year 2008.

They were also conferred the Business Leadership Award by Institute of Industrial Development, New Delhi. And the venture has been recently rated by NSIC-CRISIL and awarded SE 3B.

As for the formal education that he couldn’t complete, the entrepreneur says he reads a lot.

“I am getting myself educated through my experience. And that is the best education you can ever get,” he sums up.
