Three Indians, two women and one man, have made it to the list of 100 applicants who will move on to the next round of an ambitious private mission that aims to send four people on a one-way trip to Mars in 2024.

From the initial 202,586 applicants, only 100 hopefuls have been selected to proceed to the next round of the Mars One Astronaut Selection Process, The Netherlands-based non-profit organisation Mars One has announced.

The project aims to set up a human colony on Mars and eventually around 40 people will be sent to the red planet on a permanent basis. The finalists will train for seven years and Mars One will begin sending out four at a time from 2024.

The Mars 100 Round Three candidates include 50 men and 50 women with 39 from the Americas, 31 from Europe, 16 from Asia, 7 from Africa, and 7 from Oceania.

The Indian candidates include 29-year-old Taranjeet Singh Bhatia, who is studying Doctorate in Computer Science at the University of Central Florida.

The other two are Ritika Singh, 29, who lives in Dubai, and Shradha Prasad, 19, from Kerala.

The second round of the application process last year had shortlisted 44 Indians, of whom 27 were men and 17 were women.

The third round has selected 100 candidates from a pool of 660 after they participated in personal online interviews with Norbert Kraft, Chief Medical Officer.

During the interviews the candidates had a chance to show their understanding of the risks involved, team spirit and their motivation to be part of the life changing expedition.

“We were impressed with how many strong candidates participated in the interview round, which made it a very difficult selection,” said Norbert Kraft.

The next selection rounds will focus on composing teams that can endure all the hardships of a permanent settlement on Mars.

The candidates will receive their first shot at training in the copy of the Mars Outpost on Earth and will demonstrate their suitability to perform well in a team.

Just For Laugh …

For those who identify with the Irish…..

• Murphy told Quinn that his wife was driving him to drink.  Quinn thinks he’s very lucky because his own wife makes him walk.

• An American lawyer asked, “Paddy, why is it that whenever you ask an Irishman a question, he answers with another question?”
“Who told you that?” asked Paddy.

• Question – Why are Irish jokes so simple?
Answer – So the English can understand them.

• Reilly went to trial for armed robbery.  The jury foreman came out and announced, “Not guilty.”
“That’s grand!” shouted Reilly. “Does that mean I can keep the money?”

• Irish lass customer: “Could I be trying on that dress in the window?”
Shopkeeper: “I’d prefer that you use the dressing room.”

• Finnegin: My wife has a terrible habit of staying up ’til two o’clock in the morning.  I can’t break her of it.
Keenan: What on earth is she doin’ at that time?
Finnegin: Waitin’ for me to come home .

• Slaney phoned the maternity ward at the hospital.  “Quick!” he said.  “Send an ambulance, my wife is goin’ to have a baby!”
“Tell me, is this her first baby?” the intern asked.
“No, this is her husband, Kevin, speakin’.”

Joke of the Day….” We are ok … We should Celebrate…” !!!

A man and a woman get in a terrible car wreck.

Both of their vehicles were completely destroyed, but fortunately, no one was hurt.

Thankful, the woman says to the man in a flirting tone, “We’re both okay, we should celebrate.”

So the woman gets a bottle of wine out of the trunk of the smashed car, and hands it to the man with a smile.

The man almost forgetting about the accident takes a really big drink, and hands the bottle to the woman.

The woman closes the bottle and put it away.

The man asks, “Aren’t you going to take a drink?”

And the woman replies, “No, I’ll celebrate after the cops leave.”

Transparent Truths of Life That We Just Can’t Accept … !!!

We as humans are too blinded by what we want to see, and thence we are unable to see the reality. How often do we realize that we are offended by someone we love or that our peers aren’t as close to us as we thought?

The trouble with the rat race is that even if you win the race, you’re still a rat….

Image of the Day… Wind Sculpted Frozen Sand…!!!

Wind sculpted this frozen sand in Michigan

It was cold in the upper U.S this weekend, when Joshua Nowicki noticed and captured these cool frozen sand formations.

View larger. | Photo by Joshua Nowicki.

It was fiercely cold in the U.S. state of Michigan this past weekend, when Joshua Nowicki posted this cool photo at EarthSky Facebook. He said these interesting formations were created by the wind eroding the frozen sand at Silver Beach County Park in Saint Joseph, Michigan on February 14, 2015. The largest one, he wrote, was about 12 inches (30 cm) tall.

Thank you, Joshua!

How cold was it in Michigan? Dangerously cold. Mlive.com/weather wrote that – at 7 a.m. Sunday morning, February 15, 2015 – every reporting site except Port Hope and Munising was below zero Fahrenheit.

Message For This Day… Shivarathri…” This Day is a Day When One tries to establish a Bond between Mind and God …”

Rathri means night, signifying darkness. Shiva means auspiciousness. ‘Shivarathri’ signifies auspiciousness which is inherent in darkness. It refers to the wisdom which exists in the midst of ignorance. Wisdom and ignorance are not two different things; they are essentially the same, opposite polarities of the same underlying principle. The state that transcends both wisdom and ignorance is Divinity, Paratatva. This Shivarathri is a day when one tries to establish friendship between mind and God. Shivarathri reminds everyone of the fact that Divinity is all-pervasive and is to be found everywhere. It is said that Shiva lives in Kailasa. But where is Kailasa? Kailasa is our own mind full of joy and bliss. It means that when you develop purity, steadiness and sacredness from within, your heart becomes filled with peace and bliss, and ultimately your heart itself is Kailasa.

” God is Busy… So HE Sent me…” !!!

If you don’t know GOD, don’t make stupid remarks!
A young Canadian paratrooper was taking some college

courses between assignments. He had completed 3 tours of duty in Afghanistan. One of the courses had a professor who was an avowed

atheist and a member of the Canadian Civil Liberties

Association (CCLA).

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated,
GOD, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform…I’ll give you exactly 15 min.”

The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop.

Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed,
“Here I am GOD, I am still waiting.”
It got down to the last couple of minutes when the soldier

got out of his chair, went up to the professor,

and cold-cocked him; knocking him clean off the platform.

The professor was down & out cold.
The young soldier went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were shocked and stunned, and

sat there looking on in silence.

The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken,

looked at the soldier and asked,

“What in the world is the matter with you? Why did you do that?”

The young soldier stood up and calmly replied,
“GOD was too busy today protecting soldiers, who are protecting your right

to say stupid shit and act like an idiot. So He sent me.”

The classroom erupted in cheers!

Message For the Day…” Bhakti is the Key of Devotion to get the Treasure of Bliss…”

When we keep valuable things in a box, we lock the box and keep the key safely with us. If we lose the key or forget where we stored it, we cannot retrieve the valuables when we need them most. So too, in this human body, we need a key to get the treasure of knowledge and bliss. Shankaracharya refers to this as the key of devotion (bhakti). When you use the key of devotion and turn it on the side of detachment, you will easily open the door of knowledge and bliss. But, if the key of devotion is turned in the wrong direction, away from detachment and towards attachment, you will not be able to open the treasure-chest. Therefore, either for detachment or for attachment, this key of devotion which is between the two is important, and you should protect it. It will be possible for you to have this devotion when you have faith in God.
