அரசுப் பள்ளிகளில் படிக்கும் ஏழை மாணவர்களை முன்னுக்குக் கொண்டு வரவேண்டும் என்பதற் காக 19 ஆண்டுகளாக போற்றுதலுக் குரிய பணியை செய்து கொண் டிருக்கிறார் ராமநாதன் ஐஏஎஸ்.
குமரி மாவட்டம் அழகிய பாண்டிபுரத்தில் பிறந்து, தற்போது மதுரையில் செட்டிலாகி இருக்கும் ராமநாதன், ஐஏஎஸ் தேர்ச்சி பெற்றவர். தென்அமெரிக்காவில் அரசு ஆலோசகராக இருந்தார். விருப்ப ஓய்வில் 1995-ல் தாயகம் திரும்பிய இவர், மதுரை மாவட்டத்தில் அரசுப் பள்ளிகளில் பத்து மற்றும் 12-ம் வகுப்பு படிக்கும் ஏழை மாணவர்களை தத்து எடுத்து அவர்களை தனது சொந்தச் செலவில் படிக்க வைக்கத் தொடங்கினார். இப்படியொரு அறப் பணியில் இவர் இறங்குவதற்குக் காரணம்? அதை அவரே விவரிக்கிறார்..
‘‘நானும் சாதாரண குடும்பத்தில் பிறந்தவன்தான். தினமும் 3 கி.மீ. தூரம் நடந்துதான் பள்ளிக்குப் போவேன். அப்போதே ஏழைக் குழந்தைகளுக்கு என்னால் ஆன சின்னச் சின்ன உதவிகளை செய்திருக்கிறேன்.
அமெரிக்காவில் அரசுப் பணியில் கை நிறைய சம்பளத்தில் சந்தோஷமாக எனது நாட்கள் நகர்ந்தன. ஆனால், அந்த சந்தோஷம் இறுதிவரை நீடிக்கவில்லை. என் மனைவிக்கு ஃபிளட் கேன்சர் என்று சொன்ன டாக்டர்கள், ‘அதிகபட்சம் இன்னும் இரண்டு ஆண்டுகள்தான் அவர் உயிருடன் இருப்பார்’என்று கெடு வும் வைத்துவிட்டனர்.
அதனால், அமெரிக்காவில் இருக்கப் பிடிக்காமல் வேலையை விட்டுவிட்டு இந்தியாவுக்கு வந்துவிட்டேன். இங்கு வந்ததும், ஆதரவற்ற முதியோருக்காக ஒரு காப்பகம் கட்ட வேண்டும் என்று என் மனைவி ஆசைப்பட்டார். அவரது விருப்பத்தை நிறைவேற்றினேன்.
1995-ல் என் மனைவி இறந்தபிறகு, அந்தக் காப்பகத்தை இன்னொருவர் பொறுப்பில் விட்டுவிட்டு, பணம் இல்லாததால் படிப்பை கைவிடும் ஏழை மாணவர் களின் பக்கம் எனது கவனத்தைத் திருப்பினேன். அதற்காக 1996-ல் மதுரை மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள அனைத்து அரசுப் பள்ளிகளுக்கும் பத்தாம் வகுப்பில் 90 சதவீதம் மதிப்பெண் எடுத்திருந்த ஏழை மாணவர்களின் பட்டியலை கேட்டு கடிதம் எழுதினேன்.
சரியான மாணவர்களுக்கு உதவி கிடைக்க வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக, பள்ளிகள் பரிந்துரை செய்திருந்த மாணவர்களை அழைத்து, நானே ஒரு தேர்வு வைத்தேன். அதில் முதல் ஆண்டு தேர்வான 13 பேரை தத்தெடுத்து அவர்களுக்கான படிப்புச் செலவுகள் அனைத்தையும் செய்து படிக்க வைத்தேன். படிப்பு மட்டுமில்லாமல் மற்ற திறமைகளை வளர்த்துக் கொள்வதற்கான பயிற்சி வகுப்புகளையும் தனியாக நடத்த ஆரம்பித்தோம்.
மாதத்தில் ஒரு ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை பொது அறிவு உள்ளிட்ட தனித் திறன் பயிற்சி வகுப்பை நிபுணர்களைக் கொண்டு நடத்தினோம். இப்படி, கடந்த 19 ஆண்டுகளில் 583 பேரை தத்தெடுத்து நல்வழிப்படுத்தி இருக்கிறோம்.
கூடலூரைச் சேர்ந்த பால் விற்கும் பெண்ணின் மகன் ஒருவன், கையில் பணம் இல்லாத தால் படிப்பை பாதியில் விட்டு விட்டு வேலைக்குப் போகும் முடிவில் இருந்தான். அவனை நாங்கள் தத்தெடுத்து படிக்க வைத்தோம். அவன் அண்ணா பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் பி.டெக்., முடித்தான். தற்போது தனது தம்பியை மதுரை அமெரிக்கன் காலேஜில் எம்.எஸ்சி. படிக்க வைத்திருக்கிறான்.
எங்களிடம் பயிற்சி பெற்று படித்த 8 பேர் டாக்டர்களாகவும் நிறைய பேர் பொறியாளர்களாகவும் உள்ளனர். எங்களிடம் பயின்ற மாணவர்கள் தொடர்ந்து தொடர்பில் இருக்கிறார்கள். 15 வயதில்தான் மாணவர்கள் வழி தடுமாறிப் போகின்றனர். அந்த நேரத்தில் உரிய கவனம் செலுத்தி அவர்களை நல்வழிப்படுத்தி விட்டால் நல்ல நிலைக்கு கொண்டு வந்துவிடலாம். அதைத்தான் நாங்கள் செய்து கொண்டிருக்கிறோம்.
எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் அரசையே எதிர்பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்காமல் நல்ல நிலையில் இருப்பவர்கள் தங்கள் தகுதிக்கேற்ப தங்களால் ஆன உதவிகளை இயலாத வர்களுக்குச் செய்ய வேண்டும். எங்களிடம் படித்து பணியில் சேர்ந்திருக்கும் இளைஞர்கள் அத்தகைய உதவிகளை செய்ய ஆரம்பித்திருப்பதை நினைத்து நாங்கள் பெருமைப்படுகிறோம்’’ என்றார் ராமநாதன்

When Jesus was nailed in the Cross, his followers were deeply pained and in great grief. He said, “Just as this body had a dress, this body is just an attire for the soul. Do not grieve”. He taught his followers, “Do not harm anyone or hurt anyone. Treat everyone alike.” Everyone must practice these teachings.

Once in blue moon!
You all must have heard and also used the phrase_ “Once in a blue moon” , but many of us may not know what is a blue moon, or rather when is a blue moon.
If a full moon occurs twice in a calendar month, the second one is known as the blue moon.
A lunar cycle is 28.53 days long. So if a full moon occurs in the very beginning of a month, chances are that there will be another full moon towards the end of that month. But such a phenomenon is rare, hence the phrase “once in a blue moon”.

We generally consider direct perception as the most important type of evidence. We are able to see our body, the number of hands, legs, eyes we have and so on. This is one type of proof. Consider another example: We boil milk. After heating, we add some yoghurt to it in the night and wake up the next morning to find that the whole milk has turned into curd (yoghurt). Though our eyes don’t see the transformation process, our own action provides us the proof and we don’t need anyone else to convince us that the change from milk to curd has really occurred, though the change process was not visible directly to our eyes. So too, though the Soul (Atma) is invisible, and we cannot see it, we must have faith in its existence. Several great sages and saints have had the direct experience of Divinity in their present lives and have conveyed the teachings to us.
No matter who you are, what you do, how old you get, your memories from school will always remain one of your most prized possessions.
We’re sure you remember your days at school – the times when you and your friends sat on the last bench and ate your tiffin during class; the times when your best friend ‘helped’ you with the answers to a test and all you had to do in return was buy him an ice cream; the detentions that gave you some of your best friends; the first taste of rebellion you got from bunking a class; the first crushes; the first heartbreaks; the most wonderful memories from the best time of your life.
