Travel Tamil Nadu Temples

By some estimates Tamil Nadu has about 33,000 ancient temples, many of them over 600 to 800 years old. A majority of the great temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva and his fierce aspect of Bhairava, closely followed by temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu. There are also a number of temples dedicated to Lord Murugan and Lord Hanuman, besides a number of Amman temples. Chidambaram Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Chidambaram is one of the five Pancha Bootha Sthalas, each representing one of the five natural elements. Chidambaram represents akasha (ether). The other four temples in this category are Thiruvanaikaval Jambukeswara (water) in Trichy, Kanchi Ekambareswara (earth) in Kanchipuram, Thiruvannamalai Arunachaleswara (fire) in Thiruvannamalai and Kalahasti Nathar (wind) in Kalahasti. The tandava represented in Chidambaram is Ananda tandava, the cosmic dance of Lord Nataraja (Shiva). Another important aspect in Chidambaram is of the Five Sabhas. Chidambaram represents Por Sabai or Ponnambalam. The other Sabhas are at Thiruvalangadu (Rathina Sabai – ruby), Madurai (Velliambalam – silver), Tirunelveli (Thamira Sabai – copper), Kutralam (Chitra Sabai – painting). All the main Saivite Nayanars — namely Thirugnana Sambandhar, Appar, Sundarar and Manicka Vasakar — visited this holy shrine and it is said that they entered this temple from all the four cardinal directions, i.e. through the South, West, North and East Gopurams, denoting the four different margas or pathways. The gold-plated gopuram is the one of the main attractions of this temple. Chidambaram is supposed to be the oldest of Saivite temples and all Thirumurai concerts conclude with the words “Thiruchitrambalam”.

Message For Th Day….Surrender Yourself to HIS Will ….

The Grace of the Lord cannot be won by a little pretence of non-attachment (Vairagyam) or just with a few little acts of discrimination (Vivekam). Know and act; realise and also experience – that is the hard path. Surrender yourself to His Will. Life is a great Yajna (sacrificial rite). Allow the Lord to preside over it. Do not ignore Him. This world is not a land of enjoyment (Bhoga Bhoomi). It is a land of sacrifice, of Yoga (union with God), and of righteous actions (Thyaga Bhoomi, Yoga Bhoomi, Karma Bhoomi). Have love and the spirit of unity in work and prayer, I assure you, the Kingdom of the Lord (Rama Rajya) will establish itself again here.

So too, in your daily life, each of you can judge and ascertain the success or failure of your Sadhana(Spiritual Effort). Sadhana is the most essential practice for you. No age is too early for this. Just as you tend the body with food and drink at regular intervals, you must also tend to the needs of the inner Soul by regular japam and dhyanam (contemplation and meditation) and the cultivation of virtues. Holy Company, Good Attitude and Sacred Thoughts are all very essential for the growth and the health of your inner personality. Your body is the mansion (Bhavanam) of the Lord of the Universe (Bhuvaneshwara).

“… பூர்ணசந்த்ர முகத்துடனும், அபய கரத்துடனும் சாக்ஷாத் பெரியவா தெரிந்தார்!”

பெரியவாளை செகந்தராபாத் அருகே உள்ளே ஒரு மலைக்குன்று மேல் உள்ள மஹா கணபதி கோவிலில் தர்சனம் பண்ணினார் ஒரு பக்தர். அப்போது பெரியவா அவருக்கு தன் படமும், திருப்பதி ஸ்ரீநிவாசப் பெருமாள் படமும் குடுத்தார். பக்தருக்கோ பரம ஆனந்தம்! மெட்ராஸில் ஒரு ஸ்டூடியோவில் குடுத்து அப்படங்களைப் என்லார்ஜ் பண்ணி, அழகாக frame பண்ணித்தரச் சொன்னார். இரண்டு நாட்களுக்குப் பிறகு இடிபோல் செய்தி வந்தது….அந்த ஸ்டூடியோவில் தீப்பிடித்து ஏறக்குறைய எல்லாமே எரிந்துவிட்டது! என்று. அடித்துப்பிடித்துக் கொண்டு ஓடினார்…….ஸ்டூடியோ நிர்வாகி இவரைப் பார்த்ததும், “ஸார்…நீங்க கவலைப்படாதீங்க….நீங்க குடுத்த பெரியவா படமும், வெங்கடாசலபதி படமும் பத்ரமா இருக்கு. நெருப்பு அதை கொஞ்சங்கூட தீண்டலைங்க ஸார்…” என்றார். இது ஒரு ஆச்சர்யம்!
சந்தோஷமாக அந்த படங்களை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு அவரும் ஒரு நண்பரும் காரில் பெரியவா முகாமிட்டிருந்த கார்டேர் நகருக்கு சென்றனர். போகும் வழியில் ஒரு பிள்ளையார் கோவிலுக்கு சென்று வழிபட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தபோது அடுத்த ஆச்சர்யம்……..மடத்து பாரிஷதர் ஒர்த்தர் இவர்களை அங்கே தேடிக் கொண்டு வந்து, “மெட்ராஸ்லேர்ந்து கார்ல படம் கொண்டு வந்தவாளை பெரியவா ஒடனே அழைச்சிண்டு வரச்சொல்லி சொன்னார்……..” இது என்ன! எதிர்கொண்டழைப்பது என்பது இதுதானா? அல்ப ஜீவன்களான நம்மை அந்த மஹாப் ப்ரபு எதிர்பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்திருக்கிறாரா! ஆடித்தான் போனார் பக்தர். இரண்டு கரங்களாலும் புஷ்பங்களை அள்ளித் தூவினார் அப்படங்கள் மேல், சாக்ஷாத் பெரியவா!

அதே பக்தர் ஒருமுறை திருக்கடையூர் சென்றார் தன் நண்பருடன். அப்போது அமிர்தகடேசனுக்கு அபிஷேகம் நடந்து கொண்டிருந்தது. ஆனந்தமாக கண்டு களித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும்போது, இவருக்கு ஒரு அரிய ஆனந்தமான ஒரு காக்ஷி !………கருவறை லிங்கத்தின் மேல் பூர்ணசந்த்ர முகத்துடனும், அபய கரத்துடனும் சாக்ஷாத் பெரியவா தெரிந்தார்! இவரோ, தனக்கு பெரியவா மேல் உள்ள பக்தியால் ஏற்பட்ட மனப்ரமை என்று எண்ணினார். அதே சமயம் பக்கத்தில் நின்றுகொண்டிருந்த நண்பர் இவர் தோளைத் தட்டினார்……..”ஸ்வாமி….உள்ள பாரும் ஒய்!….பெரியவா தெரியறாளா? என்ன பாக்யம் ! என்ன பாக்யம்! சங்கரா.சங்கரா..” கண்கள் பனிக்க கன்னத்தில் போட்டுக் கொண்டார். பக்தர் ஸ்தம்பித்துவிட்டார்! சாக்ஷாத் பரமேஸ்வரனே தான்தான்! என்பதை ப்ரத்யக்ஷமாக ஒரே சமயத்தில், கற்பனையோ என்று சந்தேகப் படமுடியாமல், இரண்டு பேருக்குமே உணர்த்திவிட்டாரே பெரியவா!!!!!

Message For The Day….Faith Will Do Wonders!!!

A few elders in Brindavan who revelled in scandalizing Krishna set an ordeal for Radha to test her virtue. Radha was asked to fetch water in a pot from Yamuna to home. Radha, with full faith in Krishna, was immersed in the consciousness of the Lord, that she never bothered to know the condition of the pot. The mud pot she was given had a hundred holes. She immersed it in the river, repeating the name of Krishna as usual, with every intake of the breath and every exhalation. Every time the name Krishna was uttered, a hole was covered, so that by the time the pot was full, it was whole! That was the measure of her faith. Faith can affect even inanimate objects.

மௌனம் நா அசைத்தது

வட பாரதத்தின் வடமேற்கு மாநிலங்களைச் சேர்ந்த எட்டு முஸ்லிம்கள், பெரியவாள் தரிசனத்துக்கு வந்தார்கள். அவர்கள் எல்லோரும் செல்வந்தர்கள் என்ற நினைப்பை ஏற்படுத்தினாலும், எளிய உடை (வேஷ்டி, குல்லாய்) அணிந்திருந்தார்கள்.

“பெரிய பெரிய தேசியத் தலைவர்கள் எல்லாம் இந்த மஹந்திடம் ஆசிபெற்றுச் சென்றிருக்கிறார்கள் என்று கேள்விப்பட்டோம். அத்தகைய மஹந்தை (மகானை) தரிசனம் செய்ய வந்திருக்கிறோம்.”

பெரியவாள் அன்றைய தினம் காஷ்டமௌனம்! ஒரு ஜாடை, கண் அசைப்பு கூடக் கிடையாது, ஏதேனும் சொன்னால் கேட்டுக் கொண்டிருப்பார்களே தவிர, முகத்தில் எவ்விதச் சலனமும் இருக்காது.

முஸ்லிம்கள், வெகு தூரத்திலிருந்து, மிகவும் பக்தியோடு வந்திருக்கிறார்கள்.

“இன்று பெரியவாள் பேசமாட்டார்கள்” என்று சொல்லி, ஏமாற்றத்துடன் அவர்களை அனுப்பி வைப்பது, மகா அநியாயம். ஆனால், பெரியவாளிடம் யார் போய்ச் சொல்வது?

பாணாம்பட்டு கண்ணன் என்று ஒரு தொண்டர். நியாயமான துணிச்சல்காரர். ‘வடக்கேயிருந்து எட்டு முஸ்லிம்கள் வந்திருக்கிறார்கள். சமயப் பற்றுடையவர்கள் மாதிரி இருக்கு. ரொம்பவும் சாந்தமா இருக்கா… பெரியவாளிடம் ஆசீர்வாதம் வாங்கணும்னு ரொம்ப எதிர்பார்ப்போடு வந்திருக்கா…”

இரண்டு நிமிஷம் கழித்துப் பெரியவாள் வெளியே வந்தார்கள். “ஆயியே… ஆயியே..” என்று அவர்களை அழைத்து உட்காரச் சொல்லிவிட்டு, ஹிந்தியில் ஒவ்வொருவரிடமும் உரையாடினார்கள்.

வந்தவர்கள், “நாங்கள் ஒரு பெரிய பிரச்சினையில் சிக்கியிருக்கிறோம். பெரியவா அனுக்ரஹம் வேணும்” என்று பிரார்த்தித்துக் கொண்டார்கள்.

பெரியவாள் சொன்னார்கள்:

“நீங்கள் எல்லோரும் நல்ல பக்தர்கள். தினமும் ஐந்து வேளை தொழுகை செய்யுங்கள். இது ரம்லான் மாதம். உபவாசம் இருந்து என்னைப் பார்க்க வந்திருக்கிறீர்கள். அதனாலேதான், உங்களிடம் மட்டும் பேசுவதற்காக மௌனத்தை சிறிதுநேரம் விட்டுவிட்டேன்! உங்கள் கஷ்டங்கள் நீங்கும். ஆண்டவர் காப்பாற்றுவார்…”

அந்த எண்மரில், முதியவரான ஒருவருக்கு ஒரு பச்சை நிறச் சால்வையும், மற்றவர்களுக்குப் பழமும் கொடுத்தார்கள்.
அவர்கள் ஆனந்தம் பொங்கத் திரும்பிச் சென்றார்கள்.

கனியாக வந்த குழந்தை

திருமணமாகிப் பன்னிரண்டு ஆண்டுகள் ஆகிவிட்டன.
தசரதன் என்ற மாமன்னன் எதற்காக ஏங்கினானோ, அதே ஏக்கம் எங்களுக்கு. என்ன பாவம் செய்தோம்?

பக்தி சிரத்தையான குடும்பம். பிறந்தது – புகுந்தது என்ற இரண்டுமே வீடுபேறு பெற்ற பரம்பரை. என் மாமனார், புதுக்கோட்டை டாக்டர் ந.தியாகராஜன், புதுக்கோட்டை சங்கர மடத்தில் அப்போதைய முத்ராதிகாரி. மஹாபெரியவாள் இளையாத்தங்குடியில் தங்கியிருந்தபோது (1965) சிறிது உடல்நலம் குன்றியிருந்தார். கோயில் குளத்தில் நீராடிவிட்டு, என் மாமனார்தான் (பெரியவாளைத் தொட்டு) சிகிச்சை அளிக்கும் பாக்கியம் பெற்றவர்.

மஹாபெரியவாளின் பூர்வாசிரம சகோதரர் பிரும்மஸ்ரீ சாம்பமூர்த்தி சாஸ்திரிகள், கடைசிக் காலங்களில் நோய்வாய்ப்பட்டிருந்தபோது, சில மாதங்கள் எங்கள் மருத்துவமலையில் தங்கி சிகிச்சை பெற்று வந்தார்.

தசரதனுக்கு வசிஷ்டர் இருந்தார். எங்களுக்கு?

“பெரியவாளைத் தரிசிக்க வேண்டும்” என்ற நோக்கத்துடன், விவாகமான நாள் முதல் (2-2-1977) நானும் என் கணவரும் சேர்ந்து புறப்படவிருக்கும் நேரத்தில் ஏதாவது ஒரு தடங்கல் வந்துவிடும்! யாராவது ஒருவர் மட்டும் சென்று தரிசித்துவிட்டு வருவோம்.

எங்களுக்கும் கொஞ்சம் கொடுப்பினை இருந்தது போலும்! 1-9-1988 அன்று கலவையில் நாங்கள் (இருவருமாக) மஹாபெரியவாளைத் தரிசித்தோம்.

ஒரு மாமாங்க ஏக்கம் தீரப்போகிறது.

நாங்கள் சென்ற சமயம், பெரியவாள் மேனாவுக்குள், கதவை மூடிக்கொண்டு ஜபம் செய்து கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

”எப்போது தரிசனம் கொடுப்பார்கள்?”

“சித்தம் போக்கு, சிவம் போக்கு… சாட்சாத் பரமேஸ்வரனாலேயே பதில் சொல்லமுடியாத கேள்வி! இரண்டு மணி நேரம் கழித்துக் கதவைத் திறக்கலாம்; அல்லது இதோ இப்போதே…”அந்த விநாடி வந்துவிட்டது!

ஓர் அணுக்கத் தொண்டர், “புதுக்கோட்டை டாக்டர் தியாகராஜனின் இரண்டாவது பிள்ளை, தம்பதியா வந்திருக்கா தரிசனத்துக்கு” என்று சற்று உரத்த குரலில் விண்ணப்பித்துக் கொள்ள…
பெரியவாளே, கதவைத் திறந்தார்கள். தெய்விகப் புன்முறுவல்! அந்த க்ஷணகாலம் அப்படியே நிரந்தரமாகவே நின்று விடக்கூடாதா – என்றொரு வேட்கை.

“சாம்பமூர்த்தியை ரொம்ப நன்னா கவனிச்சிண்டார், உன் தகப்பனார்…” மெய் சிலிர்த்தது, எங்களுக்கு.

என் கணவர் குமார் (என்ற கிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தி) எங்கள் ஏக்கத்தை, நெஞ்சங் குழையக் கூறினார்.

“நாங்கள் தனித்தனியா தரிசனத்துக்கு வந்திருக்கோம். இப்போதான், முதல் தடவையா, ரெண்டு பேரும் சேர்ந்து வந்திருக்கோம்…”

பெரியவா கைகளைத் தூக்கி ஆசீர்வதித்தார்கள். மேனாவிலிருந்த ஓர் ஆரஞ்சுப்பழத்தை, என் கணவர் கையில் கொடுத்தார்கள். ஒரு குழந்தையையே எடுத்துக் கொடுப்பதுபோல் எங்களுக்குத் தோன்றியது.

21-5-1989 அன்று எனக்கு ஓர் ஆண்மகவு பிறந்தது. “இதிலென்ன ஆச்சரியம்? ஆச்சார்யாள் அனுக்ரஹத்தால் எல்லாம் நடக்கும்” என்று சொல்லிவிடலாம்தான்.

ஆச்சரியம் இருக்கிறது. அன்றைய தினம், வைகாசி அனுஷம் – பெரியவர் ஜன்ம நக்ஷத்ரம்!

முன்னர், ராமேஸ்வரத்தில் சில பரிகாரங்களைச் செய்து முடித்திருந்தோம். அதனால், குழந்தைக்கு இராமநாத் சந்திரசேகர் என்று பெயர் சூட்டினோம்.

ஜெய ஜெய சங்கர! ஹர ஹர சங்கர…

Thrilling Facts…. Determination and Persistence

This is a real life story of an engineer who build the Brooklyn Bridge in New York, USA.

In 1883, a creative engineer named John Roebling was inspired by an idea to build a spectacular bridge connecting New York with the Long Island. However bridge building experts throughout the world thought that this was an impossible feat and told Roebling to forget the idea. It just could not be done. It was not practical. It had never been done before.

Roebling could not ignore the vision he had in his mind of this bridge. He thought about it all the time and he knew deep in his heart that it could be done. He just had to share the dream with someone else. After much discussion and persuasion he managed to convince his son Washington, an upcoming engineer, that the bridge in fact could be built.

Working together for the first time, the father and son developed concepts of how it could be accomplished and how the obstacles could be overcome. With great excitement and inspiration, and the headiness of a wild challenge before them, they hired their crew and began to build their dream bridge.
The project started well, but when it was only a few months underway a tragic accident on the site took the life of John Roebling. Washington was also injured and left with a certain amount of brain damage, which resulted in him not being able to talk or walk.

“People thought.” “Crazy men and their crazy dreams.” “It’s foolish to chase wild visions.”

Everyone had a negative comment to make and felt that the project should be scrapped since the Roebling’s were the only ones who knew how the bridge could be built. In spite of his handicap Washington was never discouraged and still had a burning desire to complete the bridge and his mind was still as sharp as ever. He tried to inspire and pass on his enthusiasm to some of his friends, but they were too daunted by the task.

As he lay on his bed in his hospital room, with the sunlight streaming through the windows, a gentle breeze blew the flimsy white curtains apart and he was able to see the sky and the tops of the trees outside for just a moment. It seemed that there was a message for him not to give up. Suddenly an idea hit him. All he could do was move one finger and he decided to make the best use of it. By moving this, he slowly developed a code of communication with his wife. He touched his wife’s arm with that finger, indicating to her that he wanted her to call the engineers again. Then he used the same method of tapping her arm to tell the engineers what to do. It seemed foolish but the project was under way again. For 13 years Washington tapped out his instructions with his finger on his wife’s arm, until the bridge was finally completed. Today the spectacular Brooklyn Bridge stands in all its glory as a tribute to the triumph of one man’s indomitable spirit and his determination not to be defeated by circumstances. It is also a tribute to the engineers and their team work, and to their faith in a man who was considered mad by half the world. It stands too as a tangible monument to the love and devotion of his wife who for 13 long years patiently decoded the messages of her husband and told the engineers what to do. The Brooklyn Bridge shows us that dreams that seem impossible can be realized with determination and persistence, no matter what the odds are. Often when we face obstacles in our day-to-day life, our hurdles seem very small in comparison to what many others have to face.

Concluding thought: Persistence is the iron quality of success; if you persist long enough you must eventually succeed where no handicap can keep you from achieving your goal.
