“Welcome on -Board…Sit Down You Idiot ” !!!

A PASSENGER was hit with a case of mile-high shock after being called an ‘idiot’ by the in-flight entertainment unit.
The bizarre incident happened on board a recent Air India flight from London to Mumbai, the Times of India reported.

The woman, whose identity has not been revealed, said she tried to watch a movie about five hours into the flight but the entertainment unit wouldn’t work properly.
She adjusted the switches and buttons, at first with no response. The next thing she knew, a rather rude message popped up on the screen.
At the top it read: “The selection is no currently available. Please try again.” The message continued towards the bottom of the screen: “Lie low … Sit down you idiot!”.
The passenger complained to cabin crew and took a photo of the screen, which kept going blank. She said an airline employee apologised.
It’s unclear exactly why the message popped up, with airline sources speculating it’s only possible it was the handiwork of a disgruntled employee.
An Air India spokesperson said the incident is being investigated but it appears to be an unfortunate coincidence: “Our investigation indicates that it was the English subtitle of a Hindi movie that the lady passenger was watching, which froze on the screen when the server went offline. The matter has been taken up with the concerned authorities for rectification”.
However, the messages at the top and bottom of the screen were in the same font, and the woman said this was not the case.

What Causes Turbulance ?….Is It Dangerous ?

Turbulence is what nervous fliers fear the most when they board an aircraft. It is also the most common cause of injury to air passengers – pilots will always keep their seatbelts fastened while seated on an aircraft and will usually advise you to do the same. But is it really something to be afraid of? British Airways pilot Steve Allright explains.

What causes turbulence, and is it dangerous?
What causes turbulence?
Many different things may cause turbulence, but each and every one of them is known and understood by pilots. Every day I fly, I expect a small amount of turbulence, just as I’d expect the odd bump in the road on the drive to work. Turbulence is uncomfortable but not dangerous. It is part of flying, and is not to be feared.
Different aspects of the weather cause different types of turbulence. CAT is an abbreviation for Clear Air Turbulence – the most common form of turbulence you are likely to experience.

Air tends to flow as a horizontal snaking river called a jet stream. A jet stream can sometimes be thousands of miles long but is usually only a few miles wide and deep. Depending on the direction of travel, our flight planners either avoid (into a headwind) or use (into a tailwind) these jet streams to cut fuel costs, as they can flow up to 250 mph. Just like a fast-flowing river swirling against the riverbank, where the edge of the jet stream interacts with slower moving air, there may be some mixing of the air which causes turbulence.

Can it be avoided?

You cannot see CAT, you cannot detect it on radar and you cannot accurately forecast it, but there are other ways of avoiding it. In the main we rely reports from other aircraft, which we hear either directly or which are passed on by air traffic control. We then consider the options available to us. Our endeavours to fly at an altitude that has been reported as smooth may be prevented by several constraints such another aircraft occupying that level, or the weight of the aircraft at that time.

Whatever the circumstances, your pilot will find the most comfortable path to your destination without compromising your safety. Just like you, we experience the movement and would prefer a smoother ride.

Is turbulence more likely on certain routes?

Any airport is at the mercy of strong winds on any given day. The same applies to jet streams on any given route, although there is generally more chance of turbulence crossing the ITCZ (Intertropical Convergence Zone) when flying south across Africa, for example.

How bad can turbulence get?

Flight crews around the world share a common classification of turbulence: light, moderate and severe. The definitions are laid down in our manuals and help us to make an assessment as to what our course of action should be. For the fearful flyer, even light turbulence can be upsetting. For pilots, light turbulence is no different to a bumpy road for a taxi driver or a slightly uneven section of track for a train driver – a small, but totally safe, inconvenience and very much part of our daily lives. In light turbulence, the aircraft may be deviating by just a few feet in altitude.

Moderate turbulence strikes no fear into pilots, as they will experience this level of turbulence for a few hours in every thousand hours they fly. It usually lasts for no more than 10 or 15 minutes, but occasionally may last for several hours, on and off. This sort of turbulence will unsettle even some regular travellers and will cause drinks to spill. The aircraft may be deviating in altitude by 10 or 20 feet. No action is required by the pilot to control the aircraft, but the flight crew may decide to try a different altitude if the turbulence persists.

Severe turbulence is extremely rare. In a flying career of over 10,000 hours, I have experienced severe turbulence for about five minutes in total. It is extremely uncomfortable but not dangerous. The aircraft may be deviating in altitude by up to 100 feet (30 metres) or so, up as well as down, but nothing like the thousands of feet you hear some people talking about when it comes to turbulence.

I should stress that this level of turbulence is so rare that leisure travellers will almost certainly never experience it and nor will most business people.

Sleeping Beauties !!!!

Sleeping beauty: Photographer Alicia Gould has taken a series of adorable pictures of newborn babies when they are just a few days old

Cute: Most of the pictures, including this one, show the children while they are fast asleep

Child's play: Alicia, who says she loves the 'simplicity' of photographing newborns spends around three hours on each shoot

Angelic: Alicia captures the children in a range of poses and with differing expressions on their faces

'Scary': Alicia admits that photographing newborns is 'one of the scariest things'

Fast asleep: Alicia says that even if she wants to, it's impossible to wake some of the children up

Snug: Alicia explains that half the challenge is getting the children's parents to relax during an undoubtedly nervy first few weeks of parenthood

Moment to savour: She says that her aim is to capture a special moment in time that parents can remember in years to come

For many new parents, the sight of their newborn peacefully asleep is one to behold – a moment to savour and a short respite from constant rounds of feeds and nappy changing.

Dispelling the myth that sleep is an alien concept to newborns, New Jersey photographer Alicia Gould has captured these heartwarming moments in a series of pictures of babies in the earliest stages of their lives.

Alicia, 32, captures the babies, some as young as three days old, in a variety of poses and mostly asleep.

Message For The Day…Remember we are all pilgrims towards the same goal …Routes differ !!!

Engage yourself in spiritual discipline, spiritual thoughts, and spiritual company. Forget the past and let it go its way. At least from now on be determined to save yourself. Never yield to doubt or unsteadiness. Have faith in any one Name and Form that appeals to you. If you revere one form of God and hate another, the net result is zero. God will not tolerate the slightest hatred of any Name or Form. Avoid factions, quarrelling, scorning and fault-finding, as they reveal your ignorance and actually recoil on you. You find fault in others, because you have the same faults in you. If you throw contempt at the form of God that another reveres, the contempt falls on your own God. Remember, everyone is a pilgrim towards the same goal. Some take one route, others take another.

Message For The Day….No Need For Scriptures, If You Acquire Love…

Scriptures are only road-maps; at best they are guide-books that give directions for the destination. It is the actual journey that will reveal the hardships, the delays, the land-slips, the potholes as well as the beauty of the scenic route on the way, and the magnificence of the destination. No secondhand account can equal the firsthand experience! The symbols on the map are interpreted differently by different scholars according to their preconceived notions, predilections and pet theories. If you acquire Love, then you can dispense with the Scriptures; for the purpose of all the Scriptures is just that: to create the feeling of Sarvajana samaana prema (equal love for all), and to negate egoism which stands in the way. Reason too, if it comes in the way of this love, is to be discarded as ‘perverted’.

Miracle of Mother Nature !!! Watch Thousands of Birds Dance in the Twilight !!!

http://vimeo.com/31158841

Murmuration – it is something amazing to see.

No one knows why they do it. Yet each fall, thousands of starlings dance in the twilight above England and Scotland. The birds gather in shape-shifting flocks called murmurations, having migrated in the millions from Russia and Scandinavia to escape winter’s frigid bite. Scientists aren’t sure how they do it, either.

The starlings’ murmurations are manifestations of swarm intelligence, which in different contexts is practiced by schools of fish, swarms of bees, and colonies of ants. As far as I am aware, even complex algorithmic models haven’t yet explained the starlings’ aerobatics, which rely on the tiny birds’ quicksilver reaction time of under 100 milliseconds to avoid aerial collisions—and predators—in the giant flock.

Divine Invitation Card From Swami Sathya Sai Baba in the Year 1945 !!!….A Flashback !!!

Inauguration (Grahapravesam) of Padha Manidram
The first Mandir in Puttaparthi was opened on Friday December 14, 1945.  You are seeing here, the scanned copy of the Divine Invitation Card sent out by Swami. I wonder which were the families who were most blessed and fortunate to receive an Invitation from Bhagavan Himself.
The Grahapravesam (house warming) ceremony was the first major event in Puttaparthi .
In 1944 Puttaparthi village, was a tiny hamlet of 2 lanes at right angles. Only one or two families from Bangalore or Madras used come at a time to have Darshan of Bala Sai.  They resided at cattle sheds for a nominal rent of four rupees per month. They spent all their time drinking the Nectar of Swami’s Darshan, Sparshan and Sambhashan.
Swami would be supervising the building work and the arrangements for the inaugural function. The young men were involved in climbing up the ladders, and hanging decorations and photos on the walls. Sometimes Swami Himself would climb up. Some devotees had the privilege of offering orange juice to Swami whenever He walked through the lanes.
Smt. Savithriamma and group from Bangalore prepared the feast on the inaugural day.  Thanks to Swami’s touch, the contents multiplied and there would be enough to feed the entire village and hundreds of devotees.
Swami arrived in procession, seated on a floral decoration with the idols of two Sais on either sides. Swami installed the two idols in the main prayer hall with large canvas paintings of both Babas and pictures of other deities. A screen was used to cover the altar  in the shrine, after daily Puja was over.
Swami Himself would perform the Puja. He would dust the pictures and clean and decorate the idols. Swami would lead the Bhajan, followed by His sister Venkamma and other devotees. The first song on that day was, “Sree Ganesha Sivuni Kumara”
He would hit two coconuts against each other and sprinkle the water on all present. He would perform Arathi to Himself and show it to all devotees.
Devotees would sing “Poojinthu Maa, mana Sayi nee…” and end with the Arathi song “Paavana Purusha Saayeesa”. Swami would give prasad – coconut scrapings mixed with sugar. He used to sing “Sai Rama mana prasada midigo Randi Bhakthularaaa” (Receive the Divine Prasad of our Sai Rama). He would grant interview to everyone. There was no fixed time. As devotees arrived, they were ushered in for interview.
Those days, reaching Parthi was a Herculean task. Every time devotees were forced to take a new unknown route because of floods in Chitravathi River.
The Mandir had only 4 rooms. There were 5 kitchens in a row at the back. On the inauguration day, Swami went to a corner and placed his Palm on the ground. Soon a spring rose. It was fresh water. Swami ordered a well to be dug there. This was the only source of drinking water for the entire village. Even in summer, the water level remained the same. The devotees slept in the open space with Swami’s cot in the centre. His belongings were meagre, unlike His vast heart.
