Your duty (Karma) has to be done righteously (in dharma). Those dominated by ignorance (Thamas) do their duty solely for the sake of the fruits thereof and they resort to all sorts of subterfuges in order to gain the results they desire. For this category of people, the end justifies the means. Those dominated by passion (Rajas) are proud and pompous, and boast that they are the doers, the benefactors and the experiencers. Those dominated by qualities of calm serenity (Sathwa) do their duties regardless of the fruits thereof and leave the result to the Lord. They will not worry whether it leads to success or failure, ever conscious of their duties and never of their rights. As a matter of fact, there is more joy in the actual doing, than in the result that accrues. This attitude must be the experience of every true seeker.

இவ்வளவு செய்திகள் எதற்கு? …சிந்திக்க வேண்டியது நாம் !!!

சில மாதங்களுக்கு முன்னால் நான் ஒரு விடுதியில் ஒரு வாரம் தங்கியிருந்தேன். காலையில் சிறிது உடற்பயிற்சி. சிறிது நேரம் எழுதுவேன். அதன் பின் குளியல், சந்திப்புகள். மாலை முழுக்க சும்மா இருப்பேன். அப்போது தொலைக்காட்சியைப் பார்க்க ஆரம்பித்தேன். சென்ற பதினைந்து ஆண்டுகளாக நான் வீட்டில் தொலைக்காட்சி வைத்துக்கொள்ளவில்லை. ஆகவே விடுதிகளில்தான் தொலைக்காட்சியில் என்ன நடக்கிறது என்று தெரிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும்.

அந்த ஒரு வாரமும் இளவரசன் – திவ்யா காதலைப் பற்றி மட்டும்தான் கேரளத்தின் ஒட்டுமொத்தத் தொலைக்காட்சிச் செய்திகளும் பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தன. சம்பந்தப்பட்டவர்கள் ஒவ்வொரு பத்து நிமிடத்துக்கும் என்ன செய்துகொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள் என்று செய்தியாளர்கள் பின்னால் சென்று அறிவித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தனர். அந்தச் செய்திகளின் அரசியல் விளைவுகள் என்ன, குடும்ப ஒழுக்கம் சார்ந்து அதன் பிரச்சினைகள் என்ன என்று அறிவுஜீவிகள் விவாதங்களில் அமர்ந்து பேசித் தள்ளினார்கள். எதுவரை போகிறது என்று பார்ப்போமே என்று எண்ணி அதைப் பின்தொடர்ந்த நான் ஒருகட்டத்தில் சலித்து விட்டுவிட்டேன்.

சரியாக ஒரு மாதம் கழித்து அந்த விஷயத்தைப் பற்றி ஒரு ரயிலிலும் ஒரு விடுதியிலும் பலதரப்பட்டவர்களிடம் சாதாரணமாகப் பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தேன். அவர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் அந்தச் செய்தியைப் பற்றிய எளிய தகவல்களில்கூட குழப்பம் இருந்தது. எவருக்குமே தெளிவான எந்த நிலைப்பாடும் இல்லை. அத்தனை பேரும் அச்செய்திகளை நாட்கணக்கில் தொலைக்காட்சிகளில் பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்தவர்கள்.

உண்மையில் நமக்குச் செய்திகள் வந்துசேர்கின்றனவா? நான் சிறுவனாக இருந்தபோது கண்ணனின் சவரக் கடையில்தான் பத்திரிகை படிப்பேன். எப்படியும் முந்நூறு பேர் அந்த ஒரே ஒரு நாளிதழ் பிரதியைத்தான் செய்திகளுக்காக நம்பியிருந்தனர். ஒருவர் சத்தம்போட்டு வாசிக்க மற்றவர்கள் அதைக் கூர்ந்து கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருப்பார்கள். செய்திகளைப் பற்றிய ஐயங்களைக் கேட்டுத் தெரிந்துகொள்வார்கள். அப்போது இஸ்ரேலுக்கும் அரபுநாடுகளுக்குமிடையே போர் நடந்துகொண்டிருந்தது. ‘அவன் ஒரு துண்டு மண்ணுக்காகல்லா சண்டைபோடுகான்.. அவனுக்க பக்கம் நியாயம் உண்டு’ என்று சொன்ன அப்புபெருவட்டர் ஒன்றாம் வகுப்பைக்கூடத் தாண்டியதில்லை.

குறைவான செய்தி, செய்தியின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை அதிகரிக்கிறது. செய்தியைப் பற்றி நாம் யோசிப்பது அதிகமாகிறது. அதைப் பற்றிய நம் கருத்து ஒரு சரடுபோல மாறி, பிற செய்திகளைக் கோத்து ஒரு பெரிய வாழ்க்கை நோக்காகத் தொகுக்கப்படுகிறது. ஆனால், இன்று நாம் செய்திப் பிரளயத்தின் நடுவில் சிக்கிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறோம். இருபத்துநான்கு மணி நேர செய்தி ஓடைகள். அவற்றின் முடிவேயில்லாத விவாதங்கள். எதையும் எவரும் சொல்லிவிட்டுச் செல்லக்கூடிய இணையதள விவாதங்கள். ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக, செய்தி என்பது நம் வாழ்க்கையை வைரஸ்போலச் சூழ்ந்துகொண்டிருக்கிறது. நாம் விரும்பினாலும் இல்லை என்றாலும் அது நம்மில் புகுந்து நம் மூச்சில், ரத்தத்தில் வாழ்ந்துகொண்டிருக்கிறது.

ஆம், செய்தி பிரமாண்டமானதாக ஆகிவிட்டிருக்கிறது. ஆனால், தனிச்செய்திக்கு எந்த முக்கியத்துவமும் இல்லாமலாகிவிட்டது. செய்திகளுக்கு மேல் செய்திகள் விழுகின்றன, செய்திகள் செய்திகளை மறைக்கின்றன. கருத்துகள் செய்திகளை அழிக்கின்றன. கருத்துகளைப் பிற கருத்துகள் அழிக்கின்றன. எதையும் நாம் கவனிப்பதில்லை. எதுவும் நம்மில் நீடிப்பதில்லை.

ஒருமுறை பிஜப்பூரின் ஜும்மா மசூதியின் பிரமாண்டமான கும்மட்டத்தின் உட்குடைவுக்குள் ஏறி நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தேன். கீழே நூற்றுக்கணக்கானோர் பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தனர். கும்மட்டத்தின் உச்சிக்குழிவில் அந்தப் பேச்சொலிகள் அனைத்தும் கலந்து ஓர் ஓங்காரம் மட்டுமே கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தது. சமகாலச் செய்திகளில் இருந்து நான் பெற்றுக்கொள்வது வெறும் ஓர் ஓலத்தை மட்டுமே.

இத்தனை செய்திகள் நமக்கு எதற்கு? நம்முடைய செரிமான உறுப்பின் எல்லை ஐந்து கிலோ உணவு என்றால் ஐந்தாயிரம் கிலோ உணவை நம்முள் திணிக்கின்றன இவை. எது நமக்குத் தேவை, எதை நாம் கையாள முடியும் என்ற தெளிவு நமக்கு இல்லாத நிலையில் நாம் சமகாலத்தின் பொதுப்போக்கினால் அடித்துச் செல்லப்படுகிறோம். நான் என்னை வைத்தே பேசுகிறேன். என் இளமையில் நான் எனக்குப் பிடித்த நூல்களுக்குப் பின்னால் சென்றேன். ஆன்மிகமும் இலக்கியமும் என்னுடைய இடங்கள் என அறிந்துகொண்டேன். ஆன்மிகப் பிரச்சினைகளை இலக்கியத்தில் பேசிய மேதைகளை நான் விரும்பி வாசித்தேன். என் முதல் தேர்வு ருஷ்ய எழுத்தாளர் லேவ் தல்ஸ்தோயும் ஃபியோதர் தஸ்தயேவ்ஸ்கியும்தான். மலையாள எழுத்தாளர்கள் வைக்கம் முஹம்மது பஷீர், ஓ.வி.விஜயன். தமிழில் ஜெயகாந்தன். அதன் பின் இலக்கிய மொழியில் ஆன்மிகத்தைப் பேசியவர்களை நெருங்கிச் சென்றேன். அரவிந்தரை நான் அறிந்தது அவ்வாறுதான்.

அந்தத் தனித்துவம் கொண்ட தேடலே என்னை உருவாக்கியது என நான் நினைக்கிறேன். சமகாலத்து அரசியலும் கேளிக்கைகளும் அருகே ஒரு பெரிய பிரவாகமாகச் சென்றுகொண்டுதான் இருந்தன. அவசரநிலை அறிவிக்கப்பட்டு அதற்கு எதிரான அரசியல் கொந்தளிப்பு மூலம் ஆட்சி மாற்றம் நிகழ்ந்த காலகட்டம் அது. அந்த எல்லா அரசியலிலும் நானும் சம்பந்தப்பட்டிருந்தேன். ஆனால் அதற்கு அப்பால் என்னுடைய சொந்தத் தேடல் தனித்த ஓட்டமாகச் சென்றுகொண்டும் இருந்தது. ஏனென்றால் எனக்கென நேரம் இருந்தது. நூலகங்களில் மணிக் கணக்காக அமர்ந்திருந்தேன். ஆற்றங்கரை மண்டபங்களில் ஆலமரக் கிளைகளில் அமர்ந்து வாசித்தேன். கனவுகள் கண்டேன். அக்கனவுகளை நான் இன்றும்கூட எழுதி முடிக்கவில்லை.

இன்று நம் தனிமையை முழுக்க ஊடகங்கள் நிறைத்துக்கொள்கின்றன. தொலைக்காட்சி புக முடியாத இடைவெளியே நம் மனதுக்குள் இல்லை. அப்படிக் கொஞ்சம் எங்காவது தனித்த நேரம் இருந்தால் அங்கே இணையம் வந்துவிடுகிறது.

திரும்பத்திரும்ப விளம்பரங்கள் அதைத்தான் காட்டுகின்றன. இமயமலை உச்சியில், அரேபியப் பாலை நிலத்தில் எங்கள் தொடர்பு உங்களிடமிருக்கும். நீங்கள் ஃபேஸ்புக்கில் அரட்டை அடிக்கலாம். புகைப்படங்கள் பகிர்ந்துகொள்ளலாம். ஏன் அங்கே சென்றும் அதைச் செய்ய வேண்டும்? உலகின் மூலையிலாவது நமக்கான தனிமையில் சில துளிகளை நாம் சேமித்துக்கொள்ளக் கூடாதா என்ன?

அகத்தனிமையற்ற வாழ்க்கை. நாம் அகத்தனிமைக்குப் பழகவே இல்லை. ஐந்து நிமிடம் தனியாக இருந்தால் ‘போர்’ அடிக்கிறது என்கிறார்கள். ஐந்து வயதுக் குழந்தை போர் அடிக்கிறது என்று பெற்றோரை வந்து குத்தி, சிணுங்குவதைக் கண்டிருக்கிறேன். என் ஐந்து வயதில் எனக்கு இந்த உலகை வேடிக்கை பார்த்து முடிக்க நேரமிருக்கவில்லை. என் நோக்கில் ஓர் இளைஞன் போர் அடிக்கிறது என்று சொல்வானென்றால் அவன் கற்பனை சார்ந்த, படைப்பூக்கம் சார்ந்த எதற்கும் லாயக்கற்றவன்.

நம் அகத்தனிமையில் நாம் நமக்குரிய வழிகளைத் தேர்ந்தெடுப்போம். அதைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து செல்வோம். அதற்கு எவ்வளவு தேவையோ அவ்வளவு மட்டும் நமக்கு வெளியே இருந்து செய்திகள் வந்தால்போதும்.

செய்திகளை வாசிப்பதற்கு என்று நான் ஐந்து விதிகளை வைத்திருக்கிறேன்.

1. ஒரு நாளில் நான் அறிபவற்றில் செய்தி என்பது அதிகபட்சம் ஐந்து சதவீதத்தைத் தாண்டக் கூடாது. எனக்குச் சம்பந்தமில்லாத, எனக்குப் பயன் தராத செய்திகள் எந்த அளவுக்குச் சூழலில் உரத்து ஒலித்தாலும் சரி எனக்கு அவை முக்கியமல்ல.

2. என்னால் மேற்கொண்டு யோசித்து ஒரு கருத்தாகத் தொகுத்துக்கொள்ள முடியாத செய்தி என்பது எனக்கான செய்தி அல்ல.

3. என் நினைவில் இருக்கும் செய்திகளல்ல; என்னிடம் அச்செய்திகளின் விளைவாக உருவாகியிருக்கும் என் தரப்புதான் எனக்கு முக்கியமானது. அதைத்தான் நான் எங்கும் முன்வைப்பேன். செய்திகள் என்பவை எனக்கு என் தரப்பை உருவாக்கிக்கொள்ள உதவ வேண்டும்.

4. ஒருபோதும் செய்திகளை வைத்து அரட்டை அடிப்பதில்லை. செய்திகளை அரட்டையில் பயன்படுத்தும்போது அந்த உரையாடலின் வேகத்தை ஒட்டி நாம் நம்மையறியாமலேயே செய்திகளைத் திரிக்க ஆரம்பித்துவிடுவோம்.

5. எது முக்கியமான செய்தி எது முக்கியமற்றது என்பதை நான் முடிவுசெய்வேன், எனக்குச் செய்தியை அளிக்கும் ஊடகம் அதை முடிவுசெய்ய விட மாட்டேன்.

முப்பது ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் தமிழகத்தில் எந்த டீக்கடையிலும் தண்ணீர் வாங்கிக் குடிக்கலாம். தாயைப் பழித்தாலும் தண்ணீரைப் பழிக்கலாமா என்பார்கள். இன்று நாம் தண்ணீர் விஷயத்தில் மிகமிகக் கவனமாக இருக்கிறோம். லேபிள் பார்த்துப் புட்டித்தண்ணீர் வாங்கிக் குடிக்கிறோம்.

Look at Arjuna! When the choice was placed before him to decide which he should receive – the entire army of redoubtable Yadhava war heroes or Lord Krishna alone, unarmed and refusing to fight – without any hesitation, he chose Krishna alone! He knew; he believed; and so, he was saved. What profit will an individual or country make if it accumulates money, gold and grain? The bliss derived from the worship of the Lord which arouses spiritual joy is, any day, far more desirable than the above. Want of faith is a source of true weakness. Love (Prema) is the seed, the overpowering experience of merging with the Divine is the tree (thanmayathwam), and inexhaustible bliss (Anandam) is the fruit. Achieve this consummation with firm faith in the Divine.

 Senior’s Banking… PRICELESS!!


Shown below, is an actual letter that was sent to a bank by a  Senior customer ..
The bank manager thought it amusing enough to have it published in the Times.

Dear Sir:

I am writing to thank you for bouncing my cheque with which I endeavored to pay my plumber last month.

By my calculations, three nanoseconds must have elapsed between his presenting the cheque and the arrival in my account of the funds needed to honor it.

I refer, of course, to the automatic monthly deposit of my entire pension, an arrangement which, I admit, has been in place for only eight years.

You are to be commended for seizing that brief window of opportunity, and also for debiting my account £30 by way of penalty for the inconvenience caused to your bank.

My thankfulness springs from the manner in which this incident has caused me to rethink my errant financial ways. I noticed that whereas I personally answer your telephone calls and letters, — when I try to contact you, I am confronted by the impersonal, overcharging, pre-recorded, faceless entity which your bank has become.

From now on, I, like you, choose only to deal with a flesh-and-blood person.

My mortgage and loan repayments will therefore and hereafter no longer be automatic, but will arrive at your bank, by cheque, addressed personally and confidentially to an employee at your bank whom you must nominate.

Be aware that it is an OFFENCE under the Postal Act for any other person to open such an envelope.

Please find attached an Application Contact which I require your chosen employee to complete.

I am sorry it runs to eight pages, but in order that I know as much about him or her as your bank knows about me, there is no alternative.

Elephant Playing With Labrador !!!!

It’s no surprise that a dog loves playing catch — but an elephant?

Our charming pictures show Bubbles, a rescued orphan elephant, picking up a ball with her trunk to tease Bella the labrador, who can just about reach her pal’s knee.

She dives into a pool of water, but that doesn’t deter the pooch, who tries to get her paws on the ball by climbing onto Bubbles’ back.

When it is tossed into the air, Bella leaps off to retrieve it and then swims off, with her playmate in hot pursuit.

‘They just love to romp around together,’ says Bhagavan Antle, director of the wildlife park in California where the two friends live.

Bubbles and her other animal friends are part of a wild life conservation effort called The Rare Species Fund in Southern California.

 

Antle came across the friendly giant as a baby when she weighed 340lbs and was 42in tall.

The trainer describes her as ‘small and helpless for an elephant’ on the animal’s Facebook page, after her parents were killed for their tusks during a 20 year slaughter which ended with the ban on ivory import in 1989.

Bubbles was among the few orphaned animals that were flown to the US where a handful of facilities awaited their arrival. Most were either killed or discarded due to a lack of housing and care in Africa

Antle describes how meeting Bubbles was ‘love at first site’, adding the centre had thought carefully about adopting an elephant which can live for 60 to 100 years.

Now 30 years old and over 9ft, Bubbles weighs approximately four tons.

Them impressive animal has even found fame on the big screen, starring in Ace Ventura II, Malaika and a Janet Jackson music video.

ரசிகமணி டி.கே.சிதம்பரநாதனின் மகனான தீர்த்தாரப்பன் இளம் வயதிலேயே இறந்துவிட்டார். ஆற்ற முடியாத துயரத்தில் அமர்ந்திருந்த டி.கே.சி.க்கு ஒரு கடிதத்தை தந்தார்கள். அதை வாங்கி, கண்களை இடுக்கி மெதுவாக படித்தார். திடீரென்று கண்கள் பிரகாசமாகின. மகனின் மரணத்தை மீறியும் அவரின் குரலில் ஓர் உற்சாகம். “ஆஹா! ஆஹா” என்று அவர் பூரித்துப்போக, ‘என்ன சங்கதி’ என்று அவர் கையில் இருந்த தாளை வாங்கிப்பார்த்தார்கள். கவிமணி அவரின் மகனின் மறைவுக்கு எழுதியிருந்த இரங்கற்பா அது. “இப்படி ஓர் இரங்கற்பா கிடைக்க எத்தனை மகனை வேண்டுமானாலும் இழக்கலாம்!” என்று சொன்னாராம் ரசிகமணி. பெயருக்கு ஏற்ற ஆள்தான் அவர்.

சுசுமு ஓனோ எனும் ஜப்பானிய பேராசிரியர் தமிழ்நாட்டை சேர்ந்த பேராசிரியர் பொற்கோவுடன் இணைந்து எண்ணற்ற ஆய்வுகளை தமிழ் மொழி மற்றும் ஜப்பானிய மொழி ஆகியவற்றுக்கிடையே உள்ள ஒற்றுமை சார்ந்து செய்தார்கள். அந்த ஆய்வு வெகுகாலம் நகர்ந்தது. அப்போது எண்பது வயதில் இருந்த ஓனோ, “நான் அறுபது வயதிலேயே இறந்திருக்க வேண்டியவன். தமிழ் கொடுத்த ஆற்றல்தான் என்னை இத்தனை தூரம் உயிரோடு வைத்திருந்திக்கிறது. உயிர் தந்த மொழி தமிழ்” என்று கண்ணீர் மல்க அந்த ஆய்வு முடிகிறபோது சொன்னது வரலாறு.

பாண்டித்துரை தேவர் நான்காம் தமிழ்ச் சங்கம் ஆரம்பித்து, கடந்த நூற்றாண்டில் தமிழ் வளர்த்தது வரலாறு. அவரை எல்விஸ் துரை எனும் ஆங்கிலேயர் சந்தித்தார். அவர் திருக்குறள் தவறாக எழுதப்பட்டு இருப்பதாகவும், அதை மாற்றிக் கொண்டுவந்திருப்பதாகவும் சொன்னார். உள்ளுக்குள் எழுந்த அதிர்ச்சியை சற்றும் காட்டிக்கொள்ளாமல், “எத்தனை பிரதிகள் போட்டிருக்கிறீர்கள்?” என்று கேட்டார். “ஐநூறு!” என்று ஆர்வம் கொப்பளிக்க விடை வந்து விழுந்தது. அத்தனை பிரதியையும் அப்படியே பணம் கொடுத்து வாங்கிக்கொண்டார் பாண்டித்துரை தேவர். வேலையாளை அழைத்தார். “எல்லாத்தையும் குழி தோண்டி சீமெண்ணெய் ஊத்தி கொளுத்திடு!” என்றார். ஒரு தவறான திருக்குறள் பிரதிகூட தமிழனுக்கு போய் சேர்ந்துவிடக்கூடாது என்று அத்தனை கவனம் இருந்தது அவரிடம்.

The love of the Gopis towards Krishna has led many ignorant people enmeshed in worldly attachments and physical attractions, to turn their faces away from God. Before passing judgement on any subject, you must investigate closely. The love of the Gopis towards Krishna was super-physical, the love of the soul for the Over-soul, of the river for the sea. Their joy when they feel His presence is as supreme as their grief when they feel they are deprived of it. That is why among the songs of the saints, you have Nindhaasthuthi also; that is to say, songs, which blame Him for being cruel, partial, negligent, etc.! Persons deep in this type of love see nothing else, hear nothing else; they behave like mad persons in the world’s view.

காந்தி கணக்கு என்றால் என்ன அர்த்தம் !!!

காந்தி கணக்கு என்றாலே கிட்டதட்ட ‘நாமம்’ என்கிற அர்த்தத்தைதான் நாம் உருவாக்கி வைத்திருக்கிறோம். ஆனால், காந்தி கணக்கு என்றால் என்ன என்பதற்கான உண்மையான அர்த்தம் என்னவென்று பலருக்கும் தெரியாது. அதை இப்போது தெரிந்துகொள்வோம்.

மகாத்மா காந்தி உப்பு சத்தியாகிரகம் மேற்கொண்டிருந்தபோது, அவருக்கு வியாபாரிகள் அத்தனை பேரும் தார்மீக ஆதரவு அளித்தார்கள். அவர்கள் காந்தியிடம் “நேரடியாக எங்களால் இந்தப் போராட்டத்தில் கலந்துகொள்ள முடியாது. ஆனால், எப்படியாவது உங்கள் போராட்டத்திற்கு நாங்கள் ஆதரவு அளிப்போம். இதில் கலந்துகொள்ள வரும் தொண்டர்களை எங்கள் கடைகளில் எது வேண்டுமானாலும் வாங்கிக் கொள்ள சொல்லுங்கள். பணம் தர வேண்டாம். அடையாளம் தெரியாமல் பணம் கேட்க நேரும்போது, ‘காந்தி கணக்கு’ என்று எங்களுக்கு புரியும்படி சொன்னால் போதும். நாங்கள் அவர்களிடம் பணம் கேட்க மாட்டோம்” என்றார்களாம் அந்த வியாபாரிகள்.

அப்படி வந்ததுதான் காந்தி கணக்கு. ஆனால், நாம் இதற்கு அர்த்தம் வைத்திருப்பதோ புரியாத கணக்கு. ஒவ்வொரு சொல்லிலும் அதன் உள் அர்த்தத்தை புரிந்து செயல்பட்டால் அறிவு விசாலமாகும்.
