Jokes for the Day ….

The CIA had an opening for an assassin. After all of the background checks, interviews, and testing were done there were three finalists…
Two men and a woman.
For the final test, the CIA agents took one of the men to a large metal door and handed him a gun.
“We must know that you will follow your instructions, no matter what the circumstances.
In side of this room, you will find your wife sitting in a chair. Kill Her!!!”
The man said, “You can’t be serious. I could never shoot my wife.”
The agent said, “Then you’re not the right man for this job.”
The second man was given the same instructions. He took the gun and went into the room. All was quiet for about five minutes. Then the man came out
with tears in his eyes.” I tried, but I can’t kill my wife.”
The agent said, “You don’t have what it takes. Take your wife and go home.”
Finally, it was the woman’s turn. She was given the same instructions to kill her husband.
She took the gun and went into the room. Shots were heard, one shot after another. They heard screaming, crashing, banging on the walls.
After a few minutes, all was quiet. The door opened slowly and there stood the woman.
She wiped the sweat from her brow, and said, “This gun is loaded with blanks. I had to beat him to death with the chair

An old man lived alone in Idaho. He wanted to spade his potato garden, but it was very hard work. His only son, Bubba, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament.

Dear Bubba:
I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won’t be able to plant my potato garden this year. I’m just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here, all my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me.

Love, Dad

A few days later, he received a letter from his son.

Dear Dad:
For heaven’s sake, Dad, don’t dig up that garden. That’s where I buried the BODIES.
Love, Bubba

At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local Police showed up and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left.
That same day, the old man received another letter from his son.

Dear Dad:
Go ahead and plant the potatoes now. It’s the best I could do under the circumstances.
Love, Bubba

Message for the Day…What is Divine Love ?

True and Selfless Love manifests as sacrifice. Such love knows no hatred. It envelops the entire universe, and is capable of drawing near even those who are seemingly far away. In the phenomenal world, you come across many shades and derivatives of this primordial love. You love your father, mother, brother, sister, spouse, friends and others. In all such cases, there is always a tinge of selfishness somewhere or the other. Divine love, on the other hand, is totally free of even the slightest trace of selfishness. You must surrender to such love, become completely submerged by it, and experience the bliss it confers. True and Selfless Love manifests itself as sacrifice. For acquiring Divine love, the quality of Kshama(forbearance and patience) is a vital necessity. Every individual must cultivate this noble quality.

” Is There any Doctor onboard ?…And Does Anyone Know How to Fly a Plane ? ” …

Passengers heard not one but two chilling announcements on a recent United Airlines flight from Des Moines to Denver, after their pilot suffered a heart attack at 30,000 feet.

Quick-thinking nurse Linda Alweiss, from Camarillo, California, rushed to respond when crew asked over the loud speaker if any passengers had medical training.

But as she was administering aid to the ‘mumbling and incoherent’ pilot, another, distinctly more terrifying plea was heard: ‘Does anyone in the cabin have flight experience?’

Thankfully, the co-pilot managed to safely land the plane at an airport in Omaha, but not before the unusual request thoroughly frightened all on board.

The drama began about 20 minutes into the December 30 flight.

Mrs Alweiss was flying home via Denver with her husband and 16-year-old daughter from a Christmas vacation. When the first announcement was made the registered nurse with decades of experience was first to respond.

She said she found the pilot slumped over in the cockpit.

‘He was sick and mumbling and was just incoherent,’ she told KTLA.

The pediatric intensive care nurse, who only recently re-certified her advanced cardiac life support accreditation, noticed his heart was beating irregularly and determined he’d probably suffered a blood clot or a heart-attack.

Another nurse, Amy Sorenson, of Wyoming, also volunteered to assist and the pair, with the help of other passengers, pulled the captain out of the cockpit and into the galley so they had more room to work.

The nurses set up a diagnostic defibrillator and administered an IV.

After the co-pilot took control of the airplane, Mrs Alweiss said she turned to the woman and asked, ‘You know how to land the plane, right?’ And she said ‘yes.’

‘I felt immediately comfortable. That was just one thing I didn’t have to think about, so I could focus more on what was going on with the patient,’ Mrs Alweiss recounted to KTLA.

But a second announcement was made, asking if there were any pilots in the cabin.

‘That kind of changed the story a little bit,’ Mrs Alweiss’ husband, Alan, explained with a laugh.

The co-pilot managed to land the plane without trouble and paramedics were waiting to treat the pilot on the tarmac.

‘United flight 1637, a Boeing 737 operating between Des Moines and Denver Monday evening, landed safely in Omaha after the captain became ill,’ the airline said in a statement. ‘United accommodated the customers overnight, and they continued to Denver the next day.’

On the rescheduled flight the following day, Mrs Alweiss sat next to the co-pilot who informed her the pilot had survived and was being treated in the cardiac unit of an Omaha hospital.

‘She did her job,’ Mr Alweiss proudly told KTLV of his wife.

‘She jumped at the opportunity, didn’t hesitate. And she did it at 30,000 feet, knowing that the person who was supposed to be flying the plane was her patient.’

Message for the Day…”Appreciate the Bounty and Beauty of Nature … “

Spend your time in the contemplation of the bounty and beauty of Nature spread out before you on earth and sky – green expanses of the crops, cool breezes that waft contentment and joy, the panorama of coloured clouds, the music of the birds and so on. Sing the glory of the Lord as you walk along the path, amidst the fields, the banks and the waterways. Do not talk hatefully in the midst of all this evidence of love; do not get angry, in these placid surroundings; do not disturb the sky with your shouts and curses. Do not pollute the air with vengeful boasts. A seedling needs water and manure to grow and yield rich harvest. The tiny sapling of spiritual yearning for liberation also needs you to do these – set right your habits, purify your conduct and cleanse your behaviour.

Last Gift … A Story with a Lesson !!!

They tell of a very rich and smart man who lived many years ago in a city far away. He had a big family, a wife, children and grandchildren, and was beloved by all. He was generous to his family and friends.
One day his wife passed away and he was left alone in his house. After the mourning period, his children came to him and said he shouldn’t live all alone in the big house.
“Sell your house and possessions,” they said, “give it to us and you can live at the elder son’s house, and will never want for anything.”
The man agreed, sold all he had and divided it between his children, moving to the son’s house.
At first, he needed for nothing, and his children visited him often. But slowly, the children and grandchildren stopped showing. At the house, his elder son’s became resentful, and he was often passed on for food, his clothes weren’t fixed properly and he was ashamed to walk outside in them.
One day, the old man said to his son, “gather everyone and the mayor, I have something to tell you.”
When everyone gathered, the man said: “I have told you I sold everything, but that wasn’t the truth. I still have a suitcase filled with gold and jewellery. Since my day is coming fast, I want you to have it. It is locked with 2 keys, one I will give the mayor and the other my elder son. It’s buried under the big tree in front of our old house, and when I am dead you can open the suitcase and divide what is in there.”
Everyone was very excited to hear this, and from that day the man wanted for nothing again, surrounded by children and given food, clothes and money. He lived the rest of his life in peace.
After his death, his family gathered around the big tree as the men began digging. And indeed they found the big suitcase and with great ceremony opened it with the 2 keys.
But inside, all they found was the edge of a donkey’s tail and an envelope. The envelope contained a letter with only one line.
Only an ass gives everything away too soon!!!

Message For the Day….” Learn From Sun God…Do Your Duties with Dedication…”

Life on earth is possible only because of the Sun. For mankind that is caught up in a meaningless existence and going through an endless round of futile activities, the Sun God stands out as an exemplar of tireless and selfless service. He enjoys no respite from work. He is above praise and censure. He carries on his duties with absolute equanimity. Everything he does is only for the wellbeing of the world and not for causing any harm. Thus the Sun God teaches us the supreme example of humble devotion to duty, without any conceit. Everyone must learn how to do their duties with devotion and dedication, just like the Sun. Doing one’s duty is the greatest Yoga (Spiritual path), as pointed out by Krishna in the Gita. Hence, let your actions and thoughts be good. You will then experience the bliss divine

Message for The Day ….” What is SAMSKRITI or Transformation “?….

The observance of morality in daily life, the divinization of all actions and thoughts related to life, and adherence to ideals – all of these together constitute culture. Culture means that which sanctifies the world, which enhances the greatness and glory of a country, and which helps to raise the individual and society to a higher level of existence. The process of refinement or transformation is essential for improving the utility of any object or life. For instance, paddy has to be milled and its husk removed before the rice is fit for cooking. This is calledSamskriti or transformation. This means, doing away with unwanted elements and securing the desirable ones. With regard to people,Samskriti (culture) means getting rid of bad qualities and cultivating virtues. The cultured person is one who has developed good thoughts and good conduct.

Twelve Things Happy People Do Differently ….

12 Things Happy People Do Differently by Stephen Covey

I found this list of 12 Things Happy People Do Differently.  It was written by Stephen Covey who is the author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.  He has a lot of very inspiring ideas packed into this list.  It touches on a lot of the spiritual principles of the 12 steps which I try to live out each day including: gratitude, kindness, commitment, forgiveness, and brotherly love.  It’s another reminder for me to do my best each day and leave the rest for my Higher Power.  Enjoy!

1. Express Gratitude: When you appreciate what you have, what you have appreciates in value. If we aren’t thankful for what we already have, we will have a hard time ever being happy.
2. Cultivate Optimism: People who think optimistically see the world as a place packed with endless opportunities, especially in trying times.
3. Avoid over-thinking and social comparison: Comparing yourself to someone else can be poisonous. The only person you should compare to yourself is yourself before now.
4. Practice acts of kindness: Selflessly helping someone is a super powerful way to feel good inside.
5. Nurture social relationships: The happiest people on the planet are the ones who have deep, meaningful relationships.
6. Develop strategies for coping: It helps to have healthy strategies for coping per-rehearsed, on-call, and in your arsenal at your disposal (like an affirmation).
7. Learn to forgive: Harbouring feelings of hatred is horrible for your well being.
8. Increase flow experiences: Flow is a state in which it feels like time stands still. It’s when you’re so focused on what you’re doing that you become one with the task. Nothing is distracting you or competing for your focus.
9. Savour life’s joys: Deep happiness cannot exist without slowing down to enjoy the joy.
10. Commit to your goals: Magical things start happening when we commit ourselves to doing whatever it takes to get somewhere.
11. Practice spirituality: When we practice spirituality or religion, we recognize that life is bigger than us. We surrender the silly idea that we are the mightiest thing ever.
12. Take care of your body: Taking care of your body is crucial to being the happiest person you can be.
