Light Pillars Over Ontario… Wesley Liikane in Severn Bridge, Ontario captured these light pillars on December 23, 2013. See more photos by Wesley at Cowboy with a Camera on Facebook.

Sun pillars form when a bright light reflects off the surfaces of millions of falling ice crystals associated with thin, high-level clouds.

Wesley Liikane in Severn Bridge, Ontario captured this beautiful photo of light pillars, which are vertical shafts of light extending from a bright light source. They can be five to 10 degrees tall and sometimes even higher. They might lengthen or brighten as you gaze at them. He wrote:

On the evening of December 23, you could see the ‘sundog,’ caused by ice crystals in the air … I knew the night was going to be great, with even colder weather coming, and hoped the ice crystals would stay long enough to catch some light pillars. This image was captured down the road from my house on Highway 11, showing the lights from the local city making some wonderful light pillars. Just another reason the night can be so fun! Thanks for viewing and hope your holiday season is going wonderfully.

” சர்க்கரை பாலில் கரைவது போல ….” !!!

மாமன்னன் போஜராஜனின் அரசவையில் ஒருசமயம் ஒரு கூட்டம் நடந்து கொண்டிருந்தது. அவை நிரம்பி வழிந்தது. அப்படி ஒரு கூட்டம். அங்கு கற்றறிந்த பண்டிதர் ஒருவர் அரசவைக்குள் வர எண்ணினார். ஆனால், காலதாமதமாக வந்தார். வாயிற்காவலர் உள்ளே இடமில்லை என்று அவரைத் தடுத்தனர். “”நீ போய் அரசரிடம் அவரைக் கண்டு முக்கியமாக ஒன்றைப் பேச நான் வந்திருப்பதாய்ச் சொல்!” என்று கண்டிப்பாய்ச் சொல்கிறார் அவர். அவரின் எடுப்பான, களையான தோற்றத்தைக் கண்டு வாயிற்காவலன் அரசரிடம் சென்று “”நாங்கள் என்ன தடுத்தும் உங்களுடன் பேச வேண்டும் என்று பிடிவாதமாக ஒரு பண்டிதர் வெளியில் நிற்கிறார்” என்றான். அரசன் அந்த வாயிற்காவலனுடன் எதுவும் பேசவில்லை. ஒரு சேவகனை அழைத்து “”ஒரு கோப்பை நிறைய பாலை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு போய் அந்தப் பண்டிதரிடம் கொடு!” என்றான். அந்த சேவகனும் அவ்வாறே சென்று அந்தப் பண்டிதரிடம் பால் நிரம்பிய கோப்பையைக் கொடுத்தான்.

பால் கோப்பையைப் பார்த்த பண்டிதர் உடனே தன் தோளில் மாட்டியிருந்த ஜோல்னாப் பையைத் திறந்து அதனுள் இருந்த ஒரு பொட்டலத்தை எடுத்துப் பிரித்து அதிலிருந்த சர்க்கரையைப் பாலில் இட்டு அந்தக் கோப்பையை மீண்டும் மன்னரிடமே எடுத்துச் செல்லப் பணித்தார்.

பால் கோப்பை திரும்பி வந்ததைப் பார்த்த போஜராஜன் என்ன ஆயிற்று என்று வினவினான். “”அரசே.. அந்தப் பண்டிதர் எதுவும் பேசவில்லை. நீவிர் அனுப்பிய பால் கோப்பையைப் பார்த்ததும் தன் பையிலிருந்த ஒரு பொட்டலத்திலிருந்து சர்க்கரையை எடுத்து ஜாக்கிரதையாய்ப் பாலில் கலந்துவிட்டு உங்களிடம் கோப்பையைத் தரச் சொன்னார்!” என்றான் காவலாளி.

உடனே போஜராஜன் “”ஆஹா… என்னுடைய சபையில் இப்படிப்பட்டவர்தான் இருக்க வேண்டும். உடனே அவரை உள்ளே அழைத்து வாருங்கள்!”

என்று கட்டளையிட்டான்! அவையில் இருந்தவர்களுக்கு ஒன்றும் புரியவில்லை. அரசன் பால் கோப்பையை வெளியே அனுப்ப அவர் சர்க்கரையைப் போட்டுத் திரும்ப உள்ளே அனுப்ப அரசர் அவரை உள்ளே அழைத்து வரச் சொன்னதைக் கேட்ட அவர்கள் அதன் அர்த்தத்தைத் தெரிந்துகொள்ள விரும்பி துணிந்து அரசனிடமே கேட்டனர். அதற்கு போஜராஜன், “”அவையில் கூட்டம் முழுமையாக இருக்கிறது. உள்ளே இடமில்லை என்பதைத் தெரிவிக்கக் கோப்பை நிறையப் பாலை நிரப்பி அனுப்பினேன். ஆனால், அவரோ எவ்வளவு கூட்டம் இருந்தாலும் சர்க்கரை பாலில் கரைவதுபோல கூட்டத்தில் என்னைக் கரைத்துக் கொள்வேன். சர்க்கரையைப்போல என் தனித்துவத்தை எடுத்துவிட்டுச் சுற்றுப்புறத்தை இனிமையாக்குவேன். எந்த விஷயத்திலும் உட்புக மாட்டேன். பெயருக்கும் புகழுக்கும் ஆசைப்பட மாட்டேன். அப்படி நான் கரைந்து அந்தச் சூழலை  இனிமையாக்கும்போது நான் உள்ளே தாராளமாகச் செல்லலாமே என்று தெரிவித்தார் அந்தப் பண்டிதர்” என்று விளக்கினான்! (போஜராஜன் அவையில் அப்படிப்பட்ட பண்டிதருக்கு இடமில்லை என்று சொல்லலாமா?!)

It’s possible you’ve never heard of Simon Beck, but after today, you won’t be able to forget him or his wintry works of art. Simon is an artist and is most well-known for making incredibly delicate and detailed art in the snow, just by walking over a fresh snowfall. Heliterally walks miles in the snow to create these pieces. And the part that blows our minds? He could spend hours upon hours creating one design, just to have it be covered by snowfall or blown away by the next day. But he still makes them.

People worship God with devotion and sincerity, but God is not satisfied with external worship. You should serve society. Only service can confer bliss on you. By rendering service to society, you can alleviate the sufferings of the people, and also bring about transformation in their lives. Yad Bhavam Tad Bhavathi(as is the feeling, so is the result). When you serve with sacred feelings, it is bound to yield sacred results. Serve society to your utmost capacity. The satisfaction that you get by participating in bhajans is temporary, whereas service confers permanent satisfaction. Time is the most precious gift of God, but you are wasting it in vain pursuits and unsacred feelings. Sanctify the time given to you by serving society. Through service alone you can get rid of worries, ego, pomp and show, and other evil qualities.

When it comes to a room with a view, one several hundred miles above earth is hard to beat.

Satellites orbiting the planet and astronauts aboard the International Space Station often take pictures of volcano eruptions, hurricanes and other examples of nature’s fury.

And now NASA has rounded up the most spectacular images taken from space all year.

The images also include some of the most beautiful sights our planet has to offer – from Princess Charlotte Bay, in Australia, to the surprising beauty of Reno, Nevada’s city lights set against the mountains that surround it.

A picture was captured just weeks ago of a new island forming in the Pacific.

The past year provided some amazing images, the ones below are from a NASA collection made public.

They say the camera never lies. But this clever picture tricks the eye into thinking aspiring photographer Laura Williams’ body is invisible.

The sixth form student, who says she is inspired by ‘weird dreams’ and nature, set up the picture with a mirror covering her torso for her art foundation course.

After she posted the image online it went viral receiving more than 160,000 views worldwide.

‘Dreams inspire me too. If I have a weird dream I will often take ideas from that. I try and keep a dream journal and write all the weird ones down.

‘I would love to go freelance and shoot and edit album covers all myself. That is the dream, that is the goal.’

” An Out Of the World” Selfie !!!

THIS has to be the selfie to end all selfies.

In fact it’s so good, it’s out of this world.

NASA astronaut Mike Hopkins, a flight engineer on NASA’s Expedition 38, snapped himself during a space walk on Christmas Eve.

He was joined by NASA astronaut Rick Mastracchio, whose image reflects in Hopkins’ helmet visor.

And as if that isn’t impressive enough, the astronaut is photobombed – by EARTH!

The legendary space selfie was posted on NASA’s website.

Admittedly, although Hopkins arms are stretched in the selfie position we can’t be sure if he actually took the picture himself. But it sure looks like it.

The space walk was the second for the astronauts over a four-day period to change a degraded pump module on the outside of the Earth-orbiting International Space Station.

The pump module controls the flow of ammonia through cooling loops and radiators outside the space station, and, combined with water-based cooling loops inside the station, removes excess heat into the vacuum of space.
