Image of the Day… Rare triple transit of Jupiter’s moons…!!!

The images were taken with NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope’s Wide Field Camera 3 on January 23, 2015.

Hubble captures these moons in great clarity they can also be seen here on Earth with a small telescope or even a decent pair of binoculars.

The images on the left shows the Hubble observation at the beginning of the event. On the left is the moon Callisto and on the right, Io. The shadows from Europa, which cannot be seen in the image, Callisto, and Io are strung out from left to right. The images on the right shows the end of the event, approximately 42 minutes later. Europa has entered the frame at lower left with slower moving Callisto above and to the right of it. Meanwhile Io — which orbits significantly closer to Jupiter and so appears to move much more quickly — is approaching the eastern limb of the planet. Whilst Callisto’s shadow seems hardly to have moved Io’s has set over the planet’s eastern edge and Europa’s has risen further in the west. Image credit: NASA/ESA

Jupiter’s four largest moons are Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto, known as the Galiliean moons, after the 17th century scientist Galileo Galilei, who discovered them. Their complete orbits around Jupiter range from two to 17 days in duration. The moons can commonly be seentransiting the face of Jupiter and casting shadows onto its layers of cloud. But seeing three of them transiting the face of Jupiter at the same time is rare, occurring only once or twice a decade.

Missing from sequence of images is the Galilean moon Ganymede which was outside Hubble’s field of view.

The moons of Jupiter have very distinctive colors. The smooth icy surface of Europa is yellow-white, the volcanic sulphur surface of Io is orange and the surface of Callisto, which is one of the oldest and most cratered surfaces known in the solar system, is a brownish color.

Bottom line: New images taken by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope on January 23, 2015 capture a rare occurrence as three of Jupiter’s largest moons – Europa, Callisto and Io – parade across the giant planet’s banded face.

Message For the Day… ” Scriptures Lead you to Self Realization…”

Scriptures are designed to ensure the peace and prosperity of the world as well as the spiritual perfection of humanity. They lead you to Self-realization. So you must have faith or shraddha in the holy scriptures and Gurus. Noble Gurus must and will instruct people on the knowledge of the one Divine Soul immanent in every living being(sarva jivaatmaikya jnana). Your intellect must rest upon and draw inspiration from the Divine Soul, at all times and under all circumstances. You must be attached only to the Divine and all your actions must have the only goal of pleasing God. You must act with the implicit faith that all living beings are facets and fractions of God, and look upon all beings as equal. For this experience, the quality of equanimity (sama-dhana) is a treasure.

“This Man on CellPhone Misses a Memorable Moment …” !!!

Man on Cellphone Misses Spotting Endangered Whale Two Feet Away

Instragram photo by Eric J. Smith

Constantly on his cell phone, this unidentified man at Redondo Beach in California, USA, missed spotting a humpback whale, an endangered species, when it obligingly appeared right next to his sailboat.

But photographer Eric Smith didn’t. He then share this photograph on Instagram on February 4 using the hashtag #ABC7Eyewitness.

Smith said that he was barely 50 feet away when he captured this moment while the man on the sailboat missed it completely.

“Hey dude! Stop texting. There’s an enormous humpback whale two feet from your boat!” the caption read on Smith’s post, which has received nearly 800 likes.
“A few weeks ago, a small private sailboat manoeuvered really close to the whales, and this guy on it was literally sitting in that position and never moved. He could have been texting his mom in the hospital for all I know, but I thought it sucked that he missed such a wonderful moment happening just two feet in front of him,”  Mr Smith told  ABC News.
Most Instagram users are feeling sorry for this man. So are we.

” This Dog Lives with his Two Tiger Best Friends…”

Yes. You read that headline right. This dog lives with two tigers, and they’re all okay with it.

Three's Company? This Dog Lives With His Two Tiger Best Friends

When Tontong, the tiger cub, was diagnosed as ‘lonely’ by the the officials at Tianjhingu zoo in Tongling, they decided to find him a playmate. In came Huang Huang the puppy, who was around the same age as the cub, and thus thought to be perfect company for Tontong. Later, they introduced another tiger cub to the friend circle, Huan Huan.

The NY Post quotes a spokesperson for the zoo, “When Tontong was born, his mother turned against him so we had to separate them. But we could tell he was lonely so we decided to introduce him to Huang Huang, who is the same age. It’s amazing but seven years have gone by and they are all like brothers. They play, sleep and eat together.”

The zoo officials also claim that even when the tigers are in a bad mood and pick fights with each other, they are always careful not to hurt the smallest of the lot – Huang Huang. He may be the odd one out here, but this dog seems to be the king of this particular enclosure.

Located in China’s Anhui province, the zoo’s unusual cage-rules seem to be generating a lot of local and worldwide interest. There seem to be those who are left speechless at the bond between the three ‘brothers’, as the zoo officials put it; but there are also those who are horrified by it.

Trans Asia Plane Crash….A survivor’s Version ….

A MAN who survived the fatal TransAsia Airways crash in Taiwan has told how he could not let his son die.

Lin Mingwei’s two-year-old son Lin Riyao had already spent more than 100 days in hospital after nearly losing his life due to being born premature.

“I absolutely can’t lose him again,” Mr Lin told Apple Daily, Taiwan.

He spent three minutes trying to find his son, whom he located in the murky waters of the Keelung River in New Taipei City, Taiwan.

He was taken immediately to hospital where his condition is understood to serious but stable.

Mr Lin’s wife has also suffered a number of broken bones and is being treated in hospital.

Mr Lin said the family had switched seats on the plane “out of a hunch” that saved their lives, the United Daily News said.

“The family originally sat in the heavily damaged left side but Lin Mingwei felt uneasy after he heard noises before taking-off and requested to switch seats,” the report quoted Dai Bi-chin, a friend of the family, as saying after visiting them in hospital.

Their new seats put them next to a crack in the plane after it crashed, and the newspaper said Lin was able to pull his wife to safety and then revive his son after spotting him in the water, blue and unresponsive.

Rescuers in rubber rafts pulled 15 people alive from the wreckage of TransAsia Airways Flight GE235 which took off at 11.53am local time from Songshan Airport with 58 passengers en route to the nearby Taiwanese-controlled Kinmen Islands.

The ATR 72-600 aircraft hit a road bridge in New Taipei City and plunged into the river within three minutes of takeoff.

Experts lauded pilots Liao and Liu suggesting their actions might have prevented further lives being lost..

“This pilot decided to land in a narrow river without buildings because there is a residential area nearby. He did all he could do,” Liao Linghui, a Taiwanese aviation expert told SET News, adding that he felt the plane’s captain was a hero.

The pilot was applauded by aviation experts for apparently steering the plane away from populated areas and high-rise buildings to avoid causing more damage with the aircraft which had 53 passengers and five crew on board.

“Based on the flight path, the pilot deviated and tried to avoid obstacles. The pilot apparently made a conscious effort to avoid further and unnecessary casualties by ditching in the river. It was a very courageous move,” Hong Kong-based aviation analyst Daniel Tsang told AFP.

Emotional citizens posted their praise and condolences on social media sites. “I believe the pilot managed to steer the plane away from high-rise buildings, he is a hero,” Gin Oy, a writer and actress, said on her Facebook page.

Captain Liao is a former military pilot and the father of a nine-year-old boy.

“If the aircraft is coming down the pilots aim for open spaces where they and the passengers might survive,” said David Learmount, from Flightglobal magazine. He added that it may have been a stroke of luck to land in the river.

“They pulled the nose up to try to haul it over the top of the buildings, but when the aircraft has almost stalled, that would stall the wings completely and instead of going up, you go down more steeply.”

Message For the Day…” Everything Changes with Time…”

Even Rama, who had established Rama Rajya (the ideal kingdom) on one historic occasion, had to leave this world and pass away. Everything has to pass away some day. Nothing is going to remain permanently in this world. Even the Rama Rajya had to disappear and change. Everything changes with time and nothing remains unchanged. Many people have ruled over this land, but could any one of them take away even a small portion of the land? The only thing which you can carry and which you should take is the permanent grace of the Lord. A good name is all that you should aspire for during your life. We should do good and earn a good name, and thus lead a good life by doing good to others. This is the ideal which we have to hand over to the rest of the world.

Rahul Bhatia…A down-to-earth- Airline Success Story…

Over the past decade and a half, India has seen the business community grow at a rapid pace. Fronting this growth have been a few names who have left an indelible mark on the way we do business in this country. These are people who have shaped the Indian economy. These are people who have changed our lives. These are the Indian Business Icons.

Rahul BhatiaRahul Bhatia

These are not salad days for the Indian airline industry. With aviation fuel prices soaring, and the rupee dropping, airlines have been seeing a drastic reversal of all the gains made in the growth in city-to-city air travel in the past decade. While the most dramatic casualty was Kingfisher Airlines, SpiceJet and Jet, long industry leaders, are facing losses and decreasing market shares. Emerging as the winner in the airline sweepstakes is IndiGo, founded in 2006 and now the fastest-growing, biggest airline in the country. It has been an eventful journey of rapid growth, overtaking established players and cornering what, in 2014, amounted to a 36.1% market share.
