Message for the Day….” Have faith in Vedas and Sastras…”

To have faith in the Vedas and to accept the injunctions of the Veda is being regarded by the modern youth as outmoded and uncivilised. Young people today are not making an enquiry as to what is contained in the Vedas or in the Sastras (scriptures). They go further and say that those Have faith in the Vedas people who have faith in the Vedas and the Sastras are only having blind faith. If one argues, after acquainting oneself with the contents of what one is arguing about, one can argue for any length of time, but if a person is arguing without knowing the contents, it is not possible to have an argument. Our Vedas have been teaching us several aspects of Satyam or truth, of Jnanam or wisdom, and ofAnanta or infinity. We should ask ourselves whether the people who describe truth as truth and knowledge as knowledge are foolish, or the people who describe truth as untruth and knowledge as ignorance are foolish.

Acquire the competence to understand the kind of love and tenderness that God showers on His devotees. Pleasure arises from pain and pain results in pleasure. Because the Pandavas were in the jungle for twelve years and hid themselves unrecognised for the thirteenth year, people now appreciate their noble qualities. Because of the many obstacles and troubles that Prahlada encountered, and the punishments meted out to him, the rest of the world now knows how great his devotion was. Prahlada never had tears in his eyes and never exhibited any pain when the demons were harming him. He was simply uttering the name of the Lord and requested the Lord’s presence. His devotion and equanimity in pain and pleasure is a living example even today of what real faith and devotion can do. On the other hand, had Prahlada lived with his father in luxury with care and tenderness, how would his faith be known?

Sarcasm at its Best…

Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the old woman that she should bring her own shopping bags because plastic bags weren’t good for the environment.

The woman apologized and explained, “We didn’t have this green thing back in my earlier days.”

The cashier responded, “That’s our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations.”

She was right — our generation didn’t have the green thing in its day.
Back then, we returned milk bottles, pop bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so they could use the same bottles over and over. Yes, they really were recycling.
We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen; and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull.
But, we didn’t have the green thing back in our day.

We walked up the stairs, because we didn’t have an escalator in every shop and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn’t climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks.
But, she was right. We didn’t have the green thing in our day.

Back then, we washed the baby’s nappies because we didn’t have the throw-away kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an ‘energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts;’ wind and solar power really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing.

But, that young lady is right. We didn’t have the green thing back in our day.

Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house — not a TV in every room. And, the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the county of Yorkshire .
In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn’t have electric machines to do everything for us.
When we packaged a fragile item to send in the post, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap.
Back then, we didn’t fire up an engine and burn petrol just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power.
We exercised by working so we didn’t need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity.
But, she’s right. We didn’t have the green thing back then.

We drank water from a fountain or a tap when we were thirsty instead of demanding a plastic bottle flown in from another country.
We accepted that a lot of food was seasonal and didn’t expect that to be bucked by flying it thousands of air miles around the world.
We actually cooked food that didn’t come out of a packet, tin or plastic wrap and we could even wash our own vegetables and chop our own salad.
But, we didn’t have the green thing back then.

Back then, people took the tram or a bus, and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their mothers into a 24-hour taxi service.
We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances.
And we didn’t need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint.

But, isn’t it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn’t have the green thing back then?

Let the young turks know how bold and wise were the old generation .

As is the common practice even today, the chauffeur of a car is expected to open the door of the car when the owner gets down. One day, in Mahabharatha, after war, when the chariot returned and stood in front of his house, Arjuna insisted on Lord Krishna, his charioteer, getting down first and opening the door. Krishna disagreed and, in a strong language, admonished Arjuna, asking him to get down first and go inside. Not recognising the inner significance of Krishna’s words, Arjuna reluctantly accepted and no sooner did he go inside, Krishna jumped out of the chariot. The next moment, the entire chariot was in flames. When the surprised Pandavas asked why did the chariot get burnt, Krishna explained that all the powerful arms from the battle were subdued and kept under His feet; now when He left the chariot, they exploded. God always plans and takes care to protect His devotees from harm.

அது ஒரு சின்ன கிராமம்.அந்த கிராமத்திலே ஒரு கிருஷ்ணன் கோவில்.அந்த
கோவிலில் திருவிழா.அந்த கிராமத்து மக்கள் எல்லாம் அங்கே கூடி இருந்தாங்க.
ஒரு கதை சொல்லற பாகவதர் கிருஷ்ணனின் அருமை பெருமையெல்லாம் கதை
கிட்டு இருந்தார்.இந்த சமயம் பார்த்து ஒரு திருடன் ஊருக்குள்ள திருட
வந்தான். இந்த ஊர்ல உள்ள அத்தனை பேரும், கோவில்ல இருக்காங்க. நமக்கு நல்ல
வேட்டைதான். வீட்டுக்கு வீடு புகுந்து கண்ணுல அகப்பட்டதை சுருட்ட
வேண்டியதுதான் அப்படின்னு திட்டம் போட்டு வீடு வீடா புகுந்தான்.அவன்
கெட்ட நேரம் ஒரு வீட்டுல கூட, உருப்படியா ஒன்னும் இல்லை. என்னடா
இது………. இந்த ஊர்ல எல்லா பயலும் பிச்சைகாரனா இருப்பான் போலிருக்கே.
அப்படின்னு யோசிச்சு கிட்டே கோவில் பக்கம் வந்தான்.அங்கே யாராவது ஒரு
ஏமாளி பய சிக்காமலா போய்டுவான் என்பது அவன் எண்ணம்.பாகவதர் சுவாரஸ்யமா
கிருஷ்ணன் கதையை சொல்லி கிட்டு இருந்தார்.குழல் ஊதும் கிருஷ்ணன்
இருக்கானே…. கொள்ளை அழகு. அவன் கழுத்துல தங்க மாலை போட்டு இருப்பான்.
இடுப்புல பட்டையா ஒட்டியாணம் மாதிரி வைரம் பதிச்ச பெல்ட் போட்டு
இருப்பான்.காதுல வைர கடுக்கன். கையில தங்க காப்பு. கால்ல முத்து பதிச்ச
தண்டை. அட அட அட …. அப்படியே கண்ணனை பார்க்க கண் கோடிவேண்டும்.இப்படி… கண்ணன் அழகை வர்ணிச்சார் பாகவதர். இதை கேட்டான்
திருடன். அவனுக்கு கண்ணன் யாருன்னு எல்லாம் தெரியாது. அவனுக்கு தெரிஞ்சது
எல்லாம் திருட்டு வேலை மட்டும்தான்.அடடா… அந்த பாகவதர் யாரோ ஒரு
பணக்கார வீட்டு பையனை பற்றி சொல்றார். அவன் யார் வீட்டு பையன்னு கேட்டு,
நம் கை வரிசையை கட்ட வேண்டியதுதான். அப்படின்னு கதை முடியுற வரை
காத்திருந்தான்.கதை முடிஞ்சுது.. ஊர் மக்கள் எல்லாம் போன பிறகு, மெல்ல
பாகவதர் பக்கம் வந்தான் திருடன்.ரொம்ப நேரமா … ஒரு பையனை பற்றி
சொன்னிங்களே அவன் யார். எங்கே இருப்பான். உடனே சொல்லு. இல்லை உன்னை இந்த
கத்தியாலேயே குத்தி கொன்னுடுவேன் அப்படின்னு மிரட்டினான்.பாகவதருக்கு கை
கால் எல்லாம் வெட வெடன்னு ஆரம்பிசுடிச்சு. கடவுளே இது என்ன சோதனை. நான்
அந்த மாய கண்ணனை பற்றி அல்லவா கதை சொன்னேன். இந்த முட்டாள் திருடன் அதை
உண்மைன்னு நம்பி வந்து கேட்கிறானே.அப்படின்னு யோசித்தவர்… அவனிடம்
தப்பிக்க…. அதோ தெரியுதே சோலை, அந்த சோலை பக்கம் தான் அந்த கண்ணன்
விளையாட வருவான். போய் பிடிச்சுகோன்னு சொல்லி அப்போதைக்கு
தப்பிச்சுட்டார்.திருடனை பொறுத்தவரை பாகவதர் சொன்னது உண்மைன்னு
நம்பினான். கண்ணன் வருவான் அப்படின்னு சோலைல போய் ஒளிஞ்சு இருந்தான்.அவன்
நினைவு எல்லாம்… கண்ணன் எப்போ வருவான்… கண்ணன் எப்போ வருவான்

என்பதாகவே இருந்தது.உண்மையா பாகவதர் சொன்ன மாதிரி கண்ணன் வந்தான்.
பாகவதர் சொன்ன மாதிரி நகை எல்லாம் போட்டு இருக்கானான்னு திருடன்
பார்த்தான்.உண்மைதான்… அவர் சொன்ன அத்தனை நகையும் கண்ணன் போட்டு
இருந்தான்.மெல்ல சின்ன கண்ணன் பக்கம் போய்… அடேய் தம்பி… உன் நகை
எல்லாம் அழகா இருக்கு. அதை எனக்கு தருவியான்னு கேட்டான். கண்ணன் உடனே
எல்லாத்தையும் கழட்டி கொடுத்துட்டான்.நல்ல பையன்னு சொல்லிட்டு திருடன்
நகையை எல்லாம் ஒரு மூட்டையா கட்டி எடுத்து கிட்டு பாகவதரை தேடி
வந்தான்.தன் வீட்டு வாசலில் இருந்த பாகவதர் தூரத்தில் வரும் திருடனை
பார்த்துட்டார்.அவருக்கு மறுபடியும் கை கால் எல்லாம் ஆட அரம்பிசுடிச்சு.
திருடன் போய் சோலைல பார்த்திருப்பான். கண்ணன் வந்திருக்க மாட்டான். அந்த
கோபத்தோட வருவான். இவன் கிட்டே இருந்து எப்படி தப்பிக்கிறது… அவனும்
நம்மளை பார்த்துட்டான் .. அப்படின்னு யோசிக்கும் போது, திருடன் பக்கத்துல
வந்து ரொம்ப நன்றி… ரொம்ப நாளைக்கு பிறகு நல்ல வேட்டைன்னு
சொன்னான்.பாகவதருக்கு பயம் போயிடிச்சு. என்னப்பா
சொல்றேன்னார்.உண்மைதான்… நீங்க சொன்ன மாதிரி சின்ன கண்ணன் வந்தான்.
என்ன அழகு. என்ன சிரிப்பு, அவனை அப்படியே பார்த்துகிட்டே இருக்கலாம் போல
இருக்கு.நான் கேட்டதும் எந்த மறுப்பும் சொல்லாம அப்படியே கழட்டி
கொடுத்துட்டான். இதோ அந்த நகை எல்லாம் இருக்கு. உனக்கு கொஞ்சம் பங்கு
தரவான்னு கேட்டான்.பாகவதரால நம்பவே முடியலை. என்ன சொல்றேன்னார். அவனை
பார்த்தியான்னு கேட்டார்.ஆமாம் சாமி. உங்களுக்கு சந்தேகம் இருந்தா என்கூட வாங்க … அந்த சோலைலதான் இன்னும் விளையாடி கிட்டு இருக்கான். வாங்க
கட்டுறேன்னு சொன்னான்.நம்பவே முடியாம பாகவதர் அவன் கூட போனார். சோலை
கிட்டே வந்ததும் அதோ…. பாருங்க… சின்ன கண்ணன்… நீல வண்ணன்
விளையாடிகிட்டு இருக்கான் பாருங்கன்னு சொன்னான்.பாகவதர் கண்ணுக்கு
எதுவுமே தெரியலை. சிரிப்பு சத்தம் மட்டும் கேட்டது.இது என்ன சோதனை… என்
கண்ணுக்கு தெரியலை… கேவலம் இந்த திருடன் கண்ணுக்கு தெரியுறியா கண்ணானு
பாகவதர் அழவே ஆரம்பிச்சுட்டார்.அப்போ .. அந்த திருடன் கையை பிடிங்கோனு
ஒரு குரல் கேட்டது. உடனே அவன் கையை பிடிச்சார். நீல வண்ண கண்ணன் அவர்
கண்ணுக்கு தெரிஞ்சார்.கண்ணா… இது தர்மமா… என் நினைவு தெரிந்த நாள்
முதல் உன் கதையை சொல்றேன். அதை தவிர வேற எதுவுமே எனக்கு தெரியாது. இது
வரை எனக்கு தரிசனம் தராத நீ…. இந்த திருடன் கண்ணுக்கு தெரிகிறாய். அவன்
கையை பிடித்த பிறகுதான் நீயே எனக்கு தெரிந்தாய்.பாகவதரே…. உங்கள்
வருத்தம் புரிகிறது. ஆனால்… இத்தனை ஆண்டு காலம் என் கதையை சொன்னாலும்,
நான் வருவேன் என்ற எண்ணம் உங்களுக்கு வந்ததே இல்லை. நான் இருக்கேனா
இல்லையா என்பதே உங்களுக்கு சந்தேகம்தான்.ஆனால் இந்த திருடன் அப்படி
இல்லை. நான் இருக்கேன் என்று நம்பினான். நான் வருவேன் என்று நம்பினான்.
அதனால் வந்தேன். கடவுள் பத்தி என்பதே நம்பிக்கைதான் என்று சொல்லி விட்டு
கண்ணன் மறைந்து விட்டான்.

The word surrender has been misinterpreted and people promote idleness in the name of surrender. We think that our mind and body have been surrendered to the Lord. Your mind is not under your own control, how then can you hold it and give it to the Lord? You have no control over your own body too. So to say that you have surrendered your mind and body to the Lord is untrue. The flute is a very good example of an instrument close to the Lord and the one great quality in the flute is its complete surrender. There is nothing left in the flute, there are no residual desires. In fact, the inside of the flute is completely hollow. The flute has nine holes in it, and the flute of our body has nine holes too. That flute has been able to go close to the Lord because it is completely hollow. So also, if we can remove all the pulp of desires from our body, then there is no doubt that this flute of our body can also go close to the Lord.

Priceless Lessons A Mother Teaches ….” Think Positive”…!

My mother was the smartest person I’ve ever known, not because she had a fancy job or a high level of education, but because of her experience and wisdom. When I was a little kid she used to share her thoughts, ideas and life lessons with me. I can honestly say I would not have been the person I am today without her.

In an effort to save her words and pass them on to my children, I have written down her snippets of advice and thoughts on life. A few years after my project was done she passed away in her sleep. Today, I want to share some of her inspiring words with you, I hope they will help you as much as they have helped me.

1. Breathe in the future, breathe out the past

No matter where you are or what you’re going through, remember there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Never expect, assume, or demand anything – just do your best, control what you can, and let go of what you can’t.
2. Others should accept you for who you are
Speak your truth even if your voice shakes and you know it won’t be well-received. You are something beautiful and unique, so if you hold that back, the whole world becomes a little less amazing. Walk your path confidently and proudly – don’t expect anyone else to understand your journey.
3. You are not who you used to be, and that’s okay
People go through many ups and downs in life, and it changes them. You are no different. Your perspective has changed, your likes and dislikes have changed, your political views may have changed, and that is all normal. When people accuse you of changing, just reply by saying: “Of course I’ve changed. That’s what life is all about. I’m still the same person, just stronger and wiser.”

4. Everything that happens helps you grow

Whatever happens, hold on to hope. Learn from everything and don’t be afraid to make the same mistake twice, three times, or as many times as necessary.

5. Life should be simple
Focus on one thing at a time. You don’t have to do everything, and you don’t need to do something every second of your life. Breathe, be present, and do your best – it’s the most anyone, including yourself, could ever hope for.

6. Educate yourself to be happy, not to be rich
There is a big difference between knowing the price of things, and knowing the value of things. In the end, you will come to realize that the best days are the days when you don’t need anything special to make you smile.
7. Always be positive

Your misery or unhappiness is determined not by your circumstances, but by your attitude. Smile at those who want to hurt you – show them that they can’t take away your happiness from you. Your willpower is stronger than you know.
8. Pay close attention to those you care about
When people say “I’m okay,” you need to look them in the eyes, hug them tight, and reply, “I know you’re not”. Don’t be too upset if some people only seem to remember you when they need you, only be upset if they are not there when you need them.
9. Learn how to let go of people
Some people are bad for you, some people need to do things on their own, and some people might need you to teach them a hard lesson. It’s not easy to say goodbye when you don’t want to but you know you need to, it’s for the benefit of both sides.

10. Sometimes getting results means stripping yourself of people that slow you down
As much as you may love them, some people can make it a lot harder for you to reach your goals. Almost everyone will encounter such a person during their life. As you find out who you are and what you want, you realize that people you’ve known forever don’t see things the way you do. Keep the wonderful memories you had with them, but move on to achieve your happiness.
11. “I can’t believe I did that”, is much better than, “I wish I did that.”
Don’t live your life trying to impress others. Live it so you’ll impress yourself. If you know you will regret not doing something, just do it. It’s that simple.
12. If you can’t find your happy ending, maybe it’s time to look for a new beginning.

We all fail from time to time, it’s just a part of life. Don’t be stubborn and just accept it. The strongest people out there are the same people who have fought the toughest battles, lost, and moved on to a new beginning.

Message for the Day…”Dharmakshetra and Kurukshetra…”

It is said that King Dhritarashtra asked a question and described the battlefield of Kurukshetra as Dharmakshetra, field of virtue (The Gita begins with King Dhritarashtra asking what his sons and the Pandavas are doing in Kurukshetra). Referring to his sons he says, ‘Mamaka‘ — that is, those to whom I am bound by attachment. Dhritarashtra, in his ignorance, asked a question which really means, what are the thamo and rajo gunas (slothful and passionate qualities), represented by the Kauravas, doing in the battlefield with the Pandavas who representsattvic gunas (pure qualities). This battle is continually being waged, in the body which is the true Dharmakshetra, in Kurukshetra which symbolises the sensory organs. And Lord Krishna in the form of the consciousness or Atma is a witness to this battle all the time.

கவிஞர் கண்ணதாசன்_ஒரு கல்லூரிக்_
கவியரங்கத்தில் கலந்துகொண்டு கவிதையை
வாசிக்க ஆரம்பித்தார்.

அரங்கத்தில் உற்சாக_ஆரவாரம் எழுந்தது.

அவர் கவிதை வாசிக்கும்போது ஒவ்வொரு_
வரிக்கும் பலத்த கைதட்டல் எழுந்தது.

வாசித்து முடிந்ததும் கரவொலி அடங்க_
வெகுநேரம் பிடித்தது.

கைதட்டல்கள் முடிந்ததும்,
கண்ணதாசன்சொன்னார்,

‘இன்று நான் வாசித்த_கவிதை நான்_
எழுதியது அல்ல.

உங்கள் கல்லூரி மாணவர்_ஒருவர் நேற்று_
ஒரு கவிதை எடுத்துக்_கொண்டு வந்து_
என்னிடம் காண்பித்தார்.

அது மிக நன்றாக இருந்தது.

எனவே நான் எழுதிய_கவிதையை அவரை_
வாசிக்க சொல்லிவிட்டு_அவர் எழுதிய_
கவிதையை நான் வாசித்தேன்.

என் கவிதையை அவர் வாசிக்கும்போது_
எந்தவித ஆரவாரமும் இல்லை.

அவர் எழுதிய_கவிதையை நான் வாசித்தபோது_
பலத்த வரவேற்பு.

ஆக சொல்பவன் யார் என்பதைத்தான் உலகம்_
பார்க்கிறதே ஒழிய,

சொல்லும் பொருளைப்_பற்றிக் கவலைப்படுவதில்லை.
என்பதுதான்_உண்மை என்று புரிகிறது.”

ஒரு பிரபலமானவன் முயலுக்கு மூன்று கால்கள்_
மட்டும்தான்_என்று சொன்னாலும் ஆமாம் என்று சொல்லும்_
சமுதாயத்தில் தான்_நாம் வாழ்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறோம்..!!

Message for the Day….” Who is the creator of this Universe ….” ?

When you wear a wristwatch, and someone asks where it was manufactured, you will state that it was made by a Swiss company. We have neither seen the Swiss company nor the watch manufacturer, but are using the watch. Did this watch appear miraculously or did someone take time to manufacture this? You agree that the knowledge and process of assembling watches must exist somewhere and we readily accept that some individual has assembled this watch. If a watch has a creator, what about the Universe? Who can create all these things which are so permanent and steady? When we ask such a question, people simply push away the question and say that these are natural. They do not recognise the creator who has created all this. Not to accept the existence of such a creator is to be foolish and hard-headed.
