Nikolaos Pantazis posted this photo to EarthSky Facebook this week. It’s a stunning view of the ancient theater of Aegira (or Egira) in Greece, under the starlit trail of the summer Milky Way.
This area of western Greece was settled in the 3rd millennium BCE. It’s the site of some fascinating archeological finds, including the head, left arm and right finger of an ancient statue of Zeus, a small temple, this ancient theater and other structures.

Meet G R Radhika, the lady who has achieved the incredible feat of becoming the first woman police officer from the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to scale the 7,077 metres high Mount Kun of Kashmir. We salute her spirit of adventure.
On Sept. 7, 2015, G R Radhika, the Additional Superintendent of Police (Admin) from Adilabad district of Telengana, scaled the 7,077 metres high Mount Kun in the Zanskar mountain range of Kashmir.
She was the only Indian to reach the peak from among the eight other participants who attempted the climb. Other than her, an American and three Sherpas were able to achieve success. Nun (7,135 metres tall) and Kun are the two highest peaks in the Zanskar range.
“I felt on top of the world when I reached the peak. It was a challenging task but once I got there I felt the sky is not the limit if we have the determination,” she told The New Indian Express.
Radhika’s hometown is Anantapur in AP. She was posted as the DSP of Nellore city between 2009 and 2011. After that she worked in Karimnagar in 2012 and was then promoted to the post of ASP in January 2015.
This is not Radhika’s first adventure. Her journey as a mountaineer began in 2013 and this was her second attempt to conquer Mount Kun. It started when former Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Rajiv Trivedi, who is now the principal secretary for Home in Telangana, recommended that she join the basic mountaineering course at the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports in Jammu and Kashmir. She completed the course with distinction and was then nominated for an advanced course at the same institute.
It was on Sept. 20, 2013, that Radhika first tasted success by scaling the 5,980 metre Golep Kangri peak, located in the Zanskar range of the Western Himalayas.
In addition to an adventurous spirit, Radhika has a philanthropic mindset as well. She is one of the police officers who have adopted different villages under the Grama Jyothi scheme of the Telangana Government. She has adopted the Ponnari village in Tamsi Mandal of Adilabad district and is working for its development.
This adventure lover is now planning to scale Mount Everest as well. “I will start preparing to climb Everest and will undergo training for the same. Mountaineering is not an easy task,” she says.
Radhika has received praise from various officers of the police department. The state police is also considering helping her financially, besides giving her special leave so she can pursue her mountaineering expeditions.

Everyone, but everyone, has heard about Bangalore traffic. People complain about it in drawing rooms, write about it on Facebook and joke about it on WhatsApp. There are very few though who will step out to get down and dirty and do something about it. Ajit Lakshmirathan, 65 years old and retired from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), is one such man.
“You can start a conversation about the troublesome traffic of Bangalore with anyone in India. Residents here are always complaining about the horrible traffic situation and how nothing is being done about it, ” says Ajit.
He wanted to start taking action in order to solve the ever-increasing problem. Today, he is seen at some of the most crowded and chaotic traffic signals of Bangalore, trying his best to help vehicles move as smoothly as possible.
“We see a lot of people complaining — ‘this is not right,’ ‘that is wrong.’ There are also many armchair activists, people on Facebook and WhatsApp who keep whining about various issues in the country. But I believe that if you have a complaint, you have to work on it,” says Ajit, who lives in the Whitefield area of the city, a locality known for two reasons – for being the IT hub of Bangalore and for being a very difficult region to reach or cross because of the traffic.
Ajit retired from RBI in 2010, after 40 years of service. Since he was always interested in working at a personal level to bring change rather than give armchair advice, he soon joined a group called Whitefield Rising. This group helps people from the locality come together to devise solutions for issues concerning them — water pollution, broken footpaths, unhygienic garbage disposal habits, and a lot more. “I made many friends in the group and we realised that in Whitefield a major area of concern for most people is the traffic. So, a couple of us thought that we should be doing something about it,” says Ajit.
After speaking with the officials, Ajit felt that some formal training would help him and others who wanted to contribute to solving the problem. They required a much better understanding of the issue at hand.
Hence, he joined the Traffic Warden Organization (TWO), which is a wing of the Bangalore Traffic Police. The Bengaluru City Police Traffic Warden Organisation came into existence in 1985 with a view to having citizens assist the traffic police in Bangalore. Since then, members of TWO have been sharing the load of the increasing vehicle population and traffic woes with the officials. The duties of the wardens include assisting the police in regulating traffic, along with educating road users, including pedestrians, about road safety. Headed by former Traffic DCP M.T. Naik, TWO has trained numerous wardens coming from various fields of employment, including doctors, engineers, lawyers, teachers, industrialists, and more.
In order to become a traffic warden, interested candidates with a minimum educational qualification of Class 12, are required to fill an application form, which is followed by police verification and a day of rigorous training. The training includes information about the various traffic rules, awareness programs, traffic violations, rules for violators, and other traffic management details. Wardens also have to file monthly enforcement sheets and submit them to TWO, detailing the kind of work done in the month. They do not get any salary for this role.
After the training, applicants receive certificates from the Commissioner of Police, post which they can begin their duties.
“Every traffic signal in the Whitfield area is always jam packed. So thinking about which signal I should go to help out that day is not much of a task,” he laughs. As Ajit lives near the Kundalahalli Gate signal, he usually chooses to go there and works from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon.
“The priority for us is the smooth movement of traffic. We also stop violators at times but that is not the first thing we do; the number of violators anyway comes down when there is a person in a uniform standing at the signal,” he says.
He takes down the numbers of the vehicles that break rules, such as people who jump the signal, cabs that stop at bus stops, buses that don’t stop at the bus stops, etc. He also helps conduct trainings for BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) drivers.
Ajit has some really amusing stories about the excuses framed by traffic violators: “People give some ridiculous excuses for driving on the footpath. A few will tell you that they are related to some prominent personality in a position of power. There are others who request that I should let them go because they have to use the toilet urgently.”
This group of people, over the age of 50, who have a passion for riding Royal Enfields, get together once every three months to ride for a cause. They take up social issues on the way — such as teaching English to village kids, picking up plastic waste and clearing garbage, donating clothes to the needy, etc.
“It is not a very strenuous job like people think it is. You just have to stand in the open for some time. But the respect you get is mostly because you are wearing a uniform and, in my case, also because of the age. My idea of relaxing is to do something which makes me personally happy and if that means working for community welfare, it’s right up my alley! Being part of the wonderful Traffic Warden Organisation and Bangalore Traffic Police gives me immense pleasure. Seeing people much older than me relentlessly pursuing difficult goals continues to inspire me,” he concludes.

வழிபாட்டில் மிகவும் சிறப்பானதும் இன்றியமையாததும் விநாயகர் வழிபாடே. ஓர் ஊரின் குளக்கரையிலும் ஏரிக்கரையிலும் நம் கண்ணுக்கு தெரிவது முதலில் விநாயகர் சிலைதான்.
இவ்விநாயகரைப் பற்றிக் கூறும்பொழுது, தன் தாயாரைப் போன்றே மனைவி தனக்கும் வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக, ஏரிக்கரையிலும் குளக்கரையிலும் அவர் காத்திருப்பதாகக் கூறுவர்.
இந்த விநாயகர் வழிபாடும், இவர் தமிழகத்துக்கு வந்த விதமும் ஒரு பெரிய வரலாற்றைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. இவரை காவல் தெய்வம் என்றும், கானகத் தலைவன் என்றும் குறிப்பர். தலைப்பகுதி யானை முகமும், உடல் பகுதி மனித வடிவமும் கொண்டு அமைந்த இவரை, விநாயக மூர்த்தி என்றே அழைப்பர்.
முழுமுதற் கடவுள் விநாயகர். இவர் இல்லாத ஊரே இல்லையென்று சொல்வது சரியாக இருக்கும். கணபதி என்பதற்குப் பூதகணங்களின் தலைவன் என்று பொருள். சிற்ப அமைதிப்படி, பதினெட்டுக்கும் மேற்பட்ட உருவ வேற்றுமைகளில் கணபதி காணப்படுகிறார்.
பொதுவாக, கணபதியின் இரண்டு கைகளில் இரண்டு ஆயுதங்கள் இருக்கும். அவை, பாசமும் அங்குசமும் ஆகும். இந்த அடையாளங்கள், தாருண கணபதி, வீர விக்னேஷ்வர கணபதி, லட்சுமண கணபதி, பிரசன்ன கணபதி, நிருத்த கணபதி ஆகிய உருவங்களில் காணப்படுகின்றன. இவரை, வேட்டுவர்களின் தலைவன், கடவுள் என்றும் சிலர் குறிப்பர்.
பிரம்ம வைவார்த்த புராணம், கணபதியின் பிற பெயர்களாகக் குறிக்கும்பொழுது ஏகதந்த, லம்போதரா, சூர்ப்பனா, கஜநான, குகராஜா எனக் குறிக்கின்றது. கணபதி என்ற சொல்லுக்குப் பொருள் கொள்ளும்பொழுது, முதல் எழுத்து மதிநுட்பத்தையும், இரண்டாம் எழுத்து தடங்கலுக்குப் பாதுகாப்பு அளிப்பவன் என்றும் ஏழைப் பங்காளன் என்றும், பதி என்ற இறுதி எழுத்துகள் இறைவனாகிய பரபிரம்மத்தையும் குறிப்பதாகும்.
கணபதி வரலாறு
விநாயகர் சிற்பத்தை, கி.பி. ஏழாம் நூற்றாண்டில், வாதாபியில் இருந்து சிறுத்தொண்டர் கொண்டுவந்த பிறகுதான், விநாயகர் வழிபாடு தமிழகத்துக்கு வந்தது என்று கருதியதால்தான், கணபதியைப் பற்றி பாடும்பொழுது வாதாபி கணபதியே எனப் பாடினர்.
அக்கருத்துக்கு மாறாக, தமிழகத்தில் காணப்படும் பிள்ளையார்பட்டி விநாயகர், காலத்தால் கி.பி. ஐந்தாம் நுற்றாண்டைச் சார்ந்தது என்பதை அங்குள்ள கல்வெட்டுகள் மற்றும் அதன் சிற்ப அமைதியும் தெளிவுபடுத்துகின்றன. பரஞ்சோதி முனிவருக்கு முன்பே தமிழகத்தில் பிள்ளையார் வழிபாடு இருந்து வந்துள்ளது என்பது இதன்மூலம் தெளிவாகிறது.
திருச்சி மலைக்கோட்டையின் கீழே காணப்படும் பல்லவர் காலக் குடவரையில், பாறையில் செதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ள விநாயகர் உருவம், பரஞ்சோதி முனிவருக்கு முன் வந்தது. அதாவது, நரசிம்ம பல்லவரின் தந்தை மகேந்திர பல்லவரின் காலத்தைச் சார்ந்தது.
ஆக, வாதாபி கணபதிக்கு முன்பே தமிழகத்தில் வழிபாட்டில் விநாயகர் இருந்துள்ளார் என்பதற்கு, திருச்சி குடவரையில் காணப்படும் விநாயகர் சான்றாகும். மேலும், சங்க காலச் சோர்களும் கணபதியை வழிபட்டுள்ளனர் என்பதற்குச் சான்றாக, காஞ்சிபுரத்தில் கரிகாலச் சோழப் பிள்ளையார் எனும் கோயில் இன்றும் வழிபாட்டில் உள்ளது. இது, கரிகாலச் சோழனால் எழுப்பப்பட்டதாக இருக்கலாம்.
வழிபாட்டில் முதலில் வணங்கப்படும் கடவுள் கணபதிதான். தனிவழிபாடாக இருப்பினும், கோயில் அமைப்பிலும், கணபதியையே முதலில் வழிபாடு செய்வது வழக்கம்.
உற்சவ மூர்த்திகளை அமைக்கும்பொழுது, பஞ்ச மூர்த்திகளை ஊர்வலமாக அமைப்பர். அவற்றிலும், விநாயகரே முதன்மை வகிப்பார். இவரை, சிவனின் 24 மூர்த்தங்களில் ஒன்றாகவே கருதுவர். புராணங்களிலும், பாடல்களிலும், நூல்களிலும், கணபதி பாடலையே முதலில் அமைத்து, அவரை வணங்கிய பிறகே காரியங்களைத் துவங்குவது வழக்கமாக இருந்து வருகிறது.
முதலாம் இராசேந்திர சோழன், தனது போரினால் பெற்ற வெற்றிப் பரிசாக சாளுக்கிய நாட்டில் இருந்து கொண்டுவந்து, தன்னால் நிறுவப்பட்ட சோழர்களின் இரண்டாவது தலைநகரமான கங்கைகொண்டசோழபுரத்தில் வைத்து வணங்கிய பிள்ளையார்.
‘ஓம், சுக்லாம் பரதரம் விஷ்ணும் சசி வர்ணம் சதுர்புஜம் பிரசன்ன வதனம் தியாயோத் சர்வ விக்னோப சாந்தேயத்’ – என்று, வைணவர்வளின் விஷ்ணு சகஸ்ரநாமம் துவங்குகிறது. எனவே, முழுமுதல் கடவுளாக கணபதிதான் உள்ளார்.
இலக்கியங்களில் கணபதி
சங்க இலக்கிய நூல்களில் எட்டுத்தொகை, பத்துப்பாட்டு இரண்டும் சிறப்பு பெற்றவை. அவற்றில், கணபதியை நேரடியாக குறிப்பவை எதுவும் இல்லை. இருப்பினும், பத்துப்பாட்டில் முதல் பாடலான திருமுருகாற்றுப்படையில் கணபதி பற்றிய குறிப்பு வருகிறது. ‘ஐந்து கரத்தனை ஆனை முகத்தனை’ என்று இருக்கிறது. இந்த ஐங்கரன் குறிப்பை பிற்சேர்க்கை என்பர்.
கி.பி. ஐந்தாம் நூற்றாண்டுக்குப் பின் வந்த இலக்கியங்களிலும், சைவ ஆசாரியர்களும், விநாயகர் துதி பாடியுள்ளனர். திருஞானசம்பந்தர், அப்பர், இவர்களின் பாடல்களில் விநாயகர் பற்றிய குறிப்புகளைக் காணலாம். நம்பியாண்டார் நம்பி அவர்கள், ‘விநாயகர் திரு இரட்டை மணிமாலை’ என்ற நூலைப் படைத்துள்ளார். சைவ ஆசாரியர்களான திருஞானசம்பந்தர், அப்பர், சுந்தரர் ஆகியோர், நரசிம்ம பல்லவன், பாண்டியன் அரிகேசரி, மாறவர்மன் மற்றும் மகேந்திரவர்மன், ராஜசிம்மன் போன்ற பல்லவ, பாண்டிய மன்னர்கள் அரசு புரிந்த காலத்தில் வாழ்ந்தவர்கள்.
சம்பந்தர் பாடிய துதியில் மிகவும் சிறப்பு வாய்ந்த பாடல் –
‘படியதன் உரு உமைகொள மிக கரியது,
வடிகொடு, தனதடி வழிபடும் அவரிடம்
கடிகண பதிவர அருளினன் மிகு கொடை
வடிவினா; பயில்வலி வல முறை இறையே’
என்பது ஆகும். அப்பர், கணபதியைக் குறிக்கும்பொழுது, விநாயகர், விக்னேஷ்வரர், விக்னவிநாயகர் என்றே குறித்துள்ளார்.
விநாயகன் என்றால் தடைகளை நீக்குபவன். கணேசன் என்றால் தலைவன் என்று பவிஷ்ய புராணம், வாமன புராணம் போன்றவற்றில் விநாயகர் பற்றிய விளக்கத்தைக் காணமுடிகிறது.
நல்லோரைச் செம்மைப்படுத்தும் கருவியாகத் திகழ்பவன்; இத்தகு பெருமை வாய்ந்த விநாயகப் பெருமான், தமிழர்களுக்கு விநாயக சதுர்த்தித் திருநாளில் அனைத்தும் வழங்கி அருள வேண்டுகிறேன். இவன் திருவடிகளை நாமும் இந்த நன்நாளில் போற்றித் துதிப்போமாக.

Now one of the world’s richest men, Jack Ma failed primary school tests twice, middle school thrice and was rejected when he applied to join the police.
He was rejected from Harvard 10 times. “And then I thought someday I should go teach there may be,” he says. “That can be arranged,” said interviewer and TV host Charlie Rose in response.
He’s having the last laugh now, all the way to the bank.
In the interview, Jack Ma also talks about changing his name from Ma Yun (a suggestion made to him by a pen-pal), his love for Hollywood, how martial art forms help in business, and his first encounter with the Internet on a 1995 trip to the United States (again, his first). The first word he searched for online? Beer, probably because “it was easy to spell.”
It’s the second word in the search that eventually paved the way for Alibaba.

தன் இசையைக் கேட்கும் ஒவ்வொருவரையும் புனிதப் பயணம் அழைத்துச் சென்று ஆலயங்களைத் தரிசிக்க வைத்த இசையரசி அவர். தியாகராஜரின் கீர்த்தனைகளைப் பாடும்போது, கருணையே வடிவமான ராமனைக் கண்முன் கொண்டுவந்து நிறுத்துவார். முத்துஸ்வாமி தீட்சிதரின் ‘துவஜாவந்தி’ ராகக் கீர்த்தனை மூலம் அனைத்து கலைகளுக்கும் இருப்பிடமான திருவானைக்கா அகிலாண்டேஸ்வரியைத் தரிசிக்க வைப்பார். சியாமா சாஸ்திரியின் பாடல்களை எம்.எஸ். இசைக்கும்போது, காஞ்சி காமாட்சியும் மதுரை மீனாட்சியும் அலங்கார தேவதைகளாக அணிவகுத்து நிற்பார்கள்.
1916 செப். 16-ம் தேதி மதுரையில் பிறந்தார் எம்.எஸ். தந்தை சுப்பிரமணிய ஐயர், பிரபல வழக்கறிஞர். தாய் சண்முகவடிவு, வீணை இசைக் கலைஞர். வீட்டில் குஞ்சம்மா என்று செல்லமாக அழைக்கப்பட்டார் எம்.எஸ். 5-வது படிக்கும்போது, ஒருநாள் ஆசிரியர் அடித்துவிட, குஞ்சம்மா மயக்கமாகிவிட்டார். சில நாட்களில் உடல்நிலை சரியான பிறகும், குஞ்சம்மாவை இடைவிடாத இருமல் வாட்டியது. அம்மா சண்முகவடிவின் முடிவுப்படி பள்ளிப் படிப்புக்கு முற்றுப்புள்ளி விழுந்தது.
ஒரு சமயம், சண்முகவடிவுக்கு வெளியூரில் கச்சேரி. குஞ்சம்மாவையும் அழைத்துச் சென்றார். மேடையில் அம்மா வீணை வாசித்துக்கொண்டிருக்க, மகள் வெளியே மணலில் வீடுகட்டி விளையாடிக்கொண்டிருந்தார். கண்திறந்து பார்த்தபோது, குஞ்சம்மா இல்லாததைக் கண்டு பதற்றம் அடைந்தார் சண்முகவடிவு. தேடிப் பார்த்து அழைத்துவரும்படி பக்கத்தில் இருந்தவரைப் பணித்தார். குஞ்சம்மா கண்டுபிடித்து அழைத்துவரப்பட்டார். மேடையில், அந்த 8 வயதுக் குழந்தையைப் பக்கத்தில் உட்காரவைத்துக்கொண்டதும், மகளை ஒரு பாட்டுப் பாடச் சொன்னார் சண்முகவடிவு. ‘மராத்தி’பஜன் ஒன்றைக் குஞ்சம்மா பாட, அந்த இனிய குரலில் அங்கிருந்தவர்கள் சொக்கிப்போனார்கள்.
எவரிமாட எம்.எஸ். சுப்புலட்சுமி
குஞ்சம்மாவின் திறமையைக் கண்டறிந்த ரசிகர் ஒருவரின் சிபாரிசின் பேரில், அவருடைய குரலை ஹெச்.எம்.வி. நிறுவனம் பதிவுசெய்து வெளியிட்டது. ‘செஞ்சுருட்டி’ ராகத்தில் மதுரை மீனாட்சி அம்மனைப் போற்றி, ‘மரகத வடிவு’ பாடியபோது குஞ்சம்மாவுக்கு வயது 10. ‘மதுரை சண்முகவடிவு சுப்புலட்சுமி’ என்று கிராமபோன் ரெக்கார்டு லேபிளில் பெயர் அச்சிடப்பட்டது. பிறகு, எம்.எஸ்.எஸ். என்பது சுருங்கி, உலகமே இன்றும் என்றும் உச்சரிக்கும் ‘எம்.எஸ்’ ஆனது!
டீன் ஏஜ் பருவத்தை நெருங்குவதற்கு முன்பாகவே எம்.எஸ்ஸின் திருமணம் குறித்து சண்முக வடிவுக்குக் கவலை வந்துவிட்டது. மகளிடம் இதுபற்றிப் பேசினார்.
“எனக்கு இப்போ கல்யாணத்துக்கு அவசரமில்லேம்மா. சங்கீதத்துல நிறைய சாதிக்கணும்னு எனக்கு ஆசை…” என்று தன் எண்ணத்தை உறுதியுடன் தெரிவித்தார் குஞ்சம்மா.
எம்.எஸ். தன் இசைப் பயணத்தைத் தொடரும்பொருட்டு சென்னைக்குப் பயணமானார். “மதுரைலேர்ந்து வந்திருக்கிற சுப்புலட்சுமிங்கிற சின்னப் பொண்ணு ரொம்ப நல்லாப் பாடறாளாமே…” – சென்னை ரசிகர்களின் வாய்மொழி விளம்பரம் மூலமாகப் பிரபலம் அடையத் தொடங்கினார் எம்.எஸ். சென்னையின் சங்கீத சூழ்நிலை, பிறருடன் பழகும் விதத்தில் எம்.எஸ்ஸிடம் மாற்றங்களை ஏற்படுத்தின. கூச்ச சுபாவம் மெல்ல மெல்ல விலகியது.
‘கிராமபோன் கம்பெனி ஆஃப் இந்தியா’வில் இருந்து அழைப்புகள் வந்தன. ‘கோகிலகான எம்.எஸ்.சுப்புலட்சுமி’ என்று கிராமபோன் தட்டில் பெயரை அச்சிட்டார்கள். எம்.எஸ். பாடிய தியாகராஜரின் ‘காம்போதி’ ராகக் கிருதியான ‘எவரிமாட…’ இசைத் தட்டு விற்பனையில் சாதனை படைக்க, ‘எவரிமாட எம்.எஸ்.சுப்புலட்சுமி’ என்ற பட்டப் பெயருடன் அழைக்கப்பட்டார் எம்.எஸ்!

மியூசிக் அகாடமியில் ஏற்பாடாகியிருந்த அரியக்குடி ராமானுஜ ஐயங்காரின் கச்சேரி கடைசி நிமிடத்தில் ரத்தாகிவிட்டது. 16 வயதே நிரம்பிய எம்.எஸ். சுப்புலட்சுமிக்கு அன்று அரியக்குடியின் மேடையைக் கொடுத்தது அகாடமி. இங்கே மேடையேறிய முதல் பெண்மணி என்ற பெருமையைப் பெற்றார் எம்.எஸ்.
பாமரர்கள் மட்டுமல்ல; அன்றைய இசை மேதைகளும் வயது வித்தியாசம் பாராமல் இந்தப் புது வரவை நல்வரவாக ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார்கள். நாகஸ்வர சிம்மம் டி.என்.ராஜரத்தினம் பிள்ளை, செம்பை வைத்தியநாத பாகவதர், வயலின் மேதை மைசூர் டி.சவுடையா போன்றவர்கள் எம்.எஸ்ஸின் பாட்டுத் திறனை வியந்து பாராட்டினார்கள். கச்சேரியைக் கேட்ட வீணை காரைக்குடி சாம்பசிவ ஐயர், ‘‘குழந்தே… உன் தொண்டைக்குள்ளே நீ வீணையை ஒளிச்சுவெச்சுருக்கே…’’ என்றார்.
அதன் பின்னர், படிப்படியாக மேலேறிச் சென்று உயரம் தொட்டார் அவர். காஞ்சி மாமுனிவரின் அருள் கிடைக்கப் பெற்றார். கடல் கடந்து சென்று கலாச்சாரத் தூதுவரானார். விருதுகள் இவரைத் தேடி வந்தன. ‘பாரத ரத்னா’ வரை உயரிய விருதுகளைப் பெற்றாலும் பணிவின் உறைவிடமாகத் திகழ்ந்து சங்கீத உலகில் கோலோச்சினார் எம்.எஸ். இவையெல்லாம் சாத்தியமானது எப்படி?
1902 செப்டம்பர் 4-ம் தேதி சென்னை திருவல்லிக்கேணியில் பிறந்த டி.சதாசிவம், எம்.எஸ். வாழ்க்கையில் இணைந்தது, பின்னவருக்கு மிக முக்கியமான அத்தியாயம். ரயில் பயணம் ஒன்றில் நடந்த இவர்களது முதல் சந்திப்பு, எம்.எஸ். என்கிற மந்திரச் சொல் உலகின் மூலைமுடுக்குகளில் எல்லாம் உச்சரிக்கப்படுவதற்கு வித்திட்டது.
மதுரையில் பிறந்த வீட்டுச் சூழலிலிருந்து சுப்புலட்சுமியை மீட்டெடுத்து, இசை உலகில் யாரும் எட்டாத உயரத்துக்கு விஸ்வரூபம் எடுக்க வைக்கும் பொறுப்பைத் தன் வாழ்க்கையின் குறிக்கோளாகவே அமைத்துக்கொண்டவர் சதாசிவம்.
1940, ஜூலை 10 அன்று சென்னையை அடுத்த திருநீர்மலை கோயிலில் எம்.எஸ்ஸை வாழ்க்கைத் துணைவியாக்கிக் கொண்டார் சதாசிவம். கல்யாண ஏற்பாடுகள் அனைத்தையும் கவனித்துக்கொண்டவர், ‘தி இந்து’ ஆங்கில நாளிதழின் ஆசிரியர் கஸ்தூரி சீனிவாசன்.
எம்.எஸ்ஸின் கற்பனை வளத்துக்குக் கொஞ்சமும் சிக்கல் இல்லாமல் அவருடைய கச்சேரிகளைத் திட்டமிட்டுக் கொடுத்தார் சதாசிவம். ஒரு கச்சேரியில் மெயின் ராகம் எது, சப்-மெயின் ராகம் எது என்று சகலத்தையும் முடிவுசெய்து கொடுத்ததும் அவரே!
எம்.எஸ். பாடிவரும் பக்தி ததும்பும் பஜனைப் பாடல்கள் அனைவரையும் கவர்ந்திழுப்பதைக் கண்ட சதாசிவம், எம்.எஸ்ஸின் பாட்டுத் திறனை முழுவதும் வெளிக்கொண்டுவரும் வகையில், எழுத்தாளர் ‘கல்கி’யுடன் விவாதித்து ‘மீரா’ திரைப்படத்தை உருவாக்கினார். வெள்ளி விழா கொண்டாடிய அப்படத்தில், எஸ்.வி.வெங்கட்ராமன் இசையமைப்பில் எம்.எஸ். பாடிய பாடல்கள் பெரிய அளவில் வெற்றிபெற்றன. அதில் ‘கல்கி’ எழுதிய ‘காற்றினிலே வரும் கீதம்’ பாடல் ஒவ்வொரு வீட்டிலும் தேசிய கீதமானது!
1947 அக்டோபர் 2.
காந்தியின் பிறந்த நாளில் பாடுவதற்கு எம்.எஸ். அழைக்கப்பட்டார். தவிர்க்க இயலாத காரணங்களால் அவரால் டெல்லி செல்ல இயலவில்லை. சென்னையில் பாடலைப் பதிவுசெய்து ஒலி நாடாவை டெல்லிக்கு அனுப்பிவைத்தார் சதாசிவம்.
அக்டோபர் முதல் தேதியன்று டெல்லியிலிருந்து தகவல் வந்தது. “மேடம்… ‘ஹரி தும் ஹரோ’ என்ற மீராவின் பாடலை நீங்கள் பாடிக் கேட்க வேண்டும் என்று காந்தி விரும்புகிறார். பாடலுக்கு டியூன் தெரியவில்லை என்றாலும் பரவாயில்லை, எந்த ராகமாக இருந்தாலும் உங்கள் குரலில் கேட்க வேண்டும் என்பது காந்தியின் விருப்பம்…”
ஆனால், எம்.எஸ். அதற்கு உடன்படவில்லை. அந்தப் பாடலுக்கு இசையமைக்க ஆர்கெஸ்ட்ராவினர் அழைக்கப் பட்டனர். வெவ்வேறு விதமான டியூன்கள் அலசப்பட்டன. அவற்றில் ஒரு டியூன் ஓரளவுக்குத் திருப்திகரமாக இருக்க, ஆல் இந்தியா ரேடியோ அலுவலகம் விரைந்தார் எம்.எஸ். அந்தப் பாடலைப் பாடிப் பதிவுசெய்தார். மறுநாள் காலை விமானம் மூலம் ஒலிநாடா டெல்லிக்குப் பறந்தது!
அக்டோபர் 2-ம் தேதி மாலை, பிரார்த்தனைக் கூட்டத்தில் தான் மிகவும் விரும்பிய பாடலைக் கண்கள் மூடிக் கேட்டு ரசித்தார் காந்தி.
ஜனவரி 30,1948 அன்று மாலை காந்தி சுடப்பட்டார் என்கிற சோகத் தகவல் வானொலியில் கசிந்தது. தேசமே துக்கத்தில் மூழ்க, அனைத்து வானொலி நிலையங்களிலும் ஒலிபரப்பான பாடல், காந்தியின் பிறந்த நாளுக்கென்று எம்.எஸ். பாடிப் பதிவுசெய்து அனுப்பிய ‘ஹரி தும் ஹரோ’!
விருதுகள் எம்.எஸ்ஸைத் தேடி வந்தன. அதிலும் ஒரு பெரிய விருது அவரது வீடு தேடியே வந்தது. நாட்டின் குடியரசுத் தலைவரே நேரில் கொண்டுவந்து கொடுத்தார்.
2002-ம் ஆண்டு எம்.எஸ்., பண்டிட் ரவிசங்கர், செம்மங்குடி, டி.கே.பட்டம்மாள் ஆகிய நால்வருக்கு மியூசிக் அகாடமியின் பிளாட்டினம் ஜூப்ளி விருது வழங்க அப்துல் கலாம் வந்திருந்தார். உடல் நலக் குறைவு காரணமாக விழாவுக்கு எம்.எஸ்ஸால் செல்ல இயலவில்லை.
விவரம் அறிந்த குடியசுத் தலைவர், விழா முடிந்ததும் எம்.எஸ்-ஸின் கோட்டூர்புரம் வீட்டுக்குச் சென்று, அகாடமியின் விருதையும் பதக்கத்தையும் நேரில் கொடுத்துவிட்டு விமான நிலையம் சென்றார்.
எம்.எஸ்ஸின் பார்வையில் சாதனை
“வாழ்க்கையில் உங்களுக்குப் பூரண திருப்தி கொடுத்தது எதுவென்று நினைக்கிறீர்கள்?” என்று ஒருசமயம் எம்.எஸ்ஸிடம் கேட்கப்பட்டபோது, முதலில் கொஞ்சம் தயங்கிவிட்டு, பிறகு அழுத்தம் திருத்தமாக அவர் சொன்னது:
“நம் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் கடவுள் ஒரு திறமையைக் கொடுத்தனுப்புகிறார். நம்மால் இயன்றவரை அந்தத் திறமையைப் பயன்படுத்திக்கொள்கிறோம். என்னைப் பொறுத்தவரை யாருக்கும் நான் எந்தத் தீங்கும் மனசால்கூட நினைத்ததில்லை. அது மட்டும்தான் இன்னிக்கு வரைக்கும் நான் திருப்திப்பட்டுக்கொள்கிற விஷயம். என்னோட சாதனைன்னு நான் நினைக்கிறதும் இதைத்தான்!”
எம்.எஸ். ஆத்ம திருப்திக்காகவும் உலக அமைதிக்காகவும் பாடியவர். கச்சேரிகள் மூலம் வந்த சன்மானத்தைக் கொண்டு நிறைய சொத்துக்களை அவர் வாங்கியிருக்க முடியும். ஆனால், சங்கீதம் தனக்குக் கொடுத்ததைத் தர்ம காரியங்களுக்குத் திருப்பிக் கொடுத்து மன நிறைவு அடைந்தார். ஒரு புள்ளிவிவரத்தின்படி, தர்மமாக எம்.எஸ். கொடுத்த தொகை கிட்டத்தட்ட 3 கோடி ரூபாய்!
நிறைவாக…
72 ராகங்களில் தொகுக்கப்பட்ட மகா வைத்தியநாத சிவனின் ‘மேள ராகமாலிகை’ பாடலை, காஞ்சி மகா பெரியவரின் வேண்டுகோளின்பேரில் எம்.எஸ். பாடினார்.
“மேள ராகமாலிகையின் வார்த்தைகள், அர்த்தங்களைப் பொதித்துப் பொதித்து அடக்கிய அமைப்பில் இருக்கும். ‘கௌரி மனோஹரி தம்பர சத்தம்’ என்று வந்தால், அதில் கௌரி மனோஹரி என்பது ராகத்தைக் குறிக்கும். ‘ஹரிதம்பர சத்தம்’ என்பது பரமேஸ்வரனைக் குறிக்கும். இந்த இடத்தில், ஒரு கணத்துக்கும் குறைவாக இடைவெளி கொடுத்து இரண்டு அர்த்தங்களும் விளங்கும்படி பாட வேண்டும்” என்று ஆணையிட்ட மகா பெரியவரிடம், “இது எப்படிச் சாத்தியம்?” என்று தன் இயலாமையை வெளிப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார் எம்.எஸ்.
“நீயா பாடப்போறே? அவ பாடிடுவா, நீ ஏன் கவலைப்படறே?” என்று சொல்லியிருக்கிறார் பெரியவர். அதே மாதிரி, அந்த இடத்தில் உரிய முறையில் துல்லியமாகப் பாடினார் எம்.எஸ்.
ஒலிப்பதிவு முடிந்து ஒலிநாடா வெளியான தருணத்தில் எம்.எஸ்ஸிடம் மகா பெரியவர் சொன்னார்:
“சூரிய-சந்திரர்கள் உள்ளவரை உன் புகழ் இருக்கும்.”
அது சத்திய வாக்கு. பொய்க்காது!

On Sept. 15, Kelly and Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko clock in for their 171st day aboard the International Space Station since arriving on March 27. The pair, set to come home March 3, 2016, are spending 342 days in space to help researchers better understand how the human body reacts and adapts to long duration spaceflight. In their almost six months in orbit, Kelly and Kornienko have participated in a range of scientific experiments focusing on seven key areas of human research. The one-year crew mission is the latest step in the International Space Station’s role as a platform for preparing humanity for exploration into deeper space.
