Message For The Day….What is “Samskrithi ” and “Samskara” ?….

‘Samskrithi’, the Sanskrit word for culture, is derived from the root word ‘Samskara’ which means the dual process of removing dust and dirt, and planting the virtues of Truth, Right Conduct, Love, Non-violence and Love. Certain obligatory rites of initiation and purification prescribed by the Vedas for one’s spiritual upliftment, are also referred to as Samskaras. There are 48 such, but all of them can be reduced to just one, which is the final and fulfilling one – recognition of one’s identity with the Divine. Man (Nara) is God (Narayana). The individual entity (Jiva) is Divinity (Brahman) seen through the limitations of primal ignorance.

Message For The Day….Walk the Path Shown to You by Vedic Sriptures ….

Walk the path shown to you by the Ramayana, Mahabharatha, Bhagavatha and other scriptures. Proceed along that path, unmindful of halts and handicaps, approvals or disapproval of kith and kin, of praise or blame from society. What exactly is praise or blame? They are words – just sound waves coming from across the air; waves that strike your ear. Let them strike only the outer ear, do not welcome them in. Grace is won by suffering alone. The Lord incarnates in the world when unrighteousness becomes rampant. Therefore adharma(unrighteousness) has to be suffered so that each one may have the joy of welcoming the Lord and experiencing His Presence.

Leonardo da Vinci….A Great Anatomist Too!!!….Look At His Sketches of Human Body !!!

He may be renowned for masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper, but Leonardo da Vinci is also one of the greatest anatomists the world has seen.

  • Da Vinci began researching the human body to ensure his artworks were as accurate as possible
  • Between 1507 and 1513 he dissected more than 30 human corpses
  • His sketches of the human body are now being displayed against 21st Century imagery – with da Vinci’s work proving remarkably accurate

His intricate knowledge of the human body, which was years ahead of his time, is demonstrated in a collection of notebooks which he filled with detailed studies of organs, bones, vessels and muscles using new illustrative techniques.

The collection of notebooks, which date between 1452 and 1519, and chart much of the Italian renaissance artist’s groundbreaking studies of the human body.

Exhibition: Leonardo da Vinci's anatomical notebooks are going on display at a new exhibition in Ediburgh

Sizing things up: Sophie Lawrenson demonstrates the size of da Vinci's sketches by holding her hands up to the notebook

Almost 500 years after his death, the drawings in his anatomical notebooks are being displayed at an exhibition in Ediburgh alongside 21st-century pictures of the same body parts – with da Vinci’s sketches proving startlingly accurate.

Curators say his work foreshadows modern techniques like MRI scans and 3D computer modelling ‘to an astonishing degree’.

Comparison: Leonardo da Vinci’s anatomical drawing of a hand is remarkably similar to modern medical scans and models which show just how true to life the artist’s work was

The polymath was able to use his skills in art, architecture and engineering to produce images of the body never seen before.

Exhibition curator Martin Clayton, of Royal Collection Trust, said: ‘This is the first time that Leonardo da Vinci’s anatomical drawings have been displayed alongside their modern-day counterparts.

‘It’s incredibly exciting to discover how Leonardo’s investigations 500 years ago foreshadowed the work of today’s leading anatomists to an astonishing degree.’

He also recorded the muscles of the shoulder and arm in eight different views, rotating the body through 180 degrees.

Peter Abrahams, professor of clinical anatomy at Warwick Medical School, who helped the show’s curators, said: ‘In many ways Leonardo predicted the 20th-century revolution in various medical imaging techniques.

‘His use of cross sections and slices to show deep internal structures within the body foreshadowed the modern techniques of CT and MRI scanning.

‘The anatomical accuracy of Leonardo’s drawings has rarely ever been surpassed, and I still use them to teach surgeons and medical students today.’

Message For The Day….Ensure Your Children Learning Good Habits Right From Childhood !!!

Parents and teachers must see that children learn good habits and attitudes in their formative years. What is read from books must be contemplated upon and reflected upon in silence and quietness. This is a very good exercise in intellectual development and in the acquisition of mental peace. The instinct to quarrel and fight over any and all misunderstandings must be regulated and sublimated. You should not cause children to suffer mental anguish or physical pain! Children also should not enjoy the infliction of pain on any being. They must be brought up with a sense of responsibility. They should be taught not to take delight in showing off their dress, ornaments, status or wealth before the less fortunate. They must be taught from early on, habits of personal cleanliness and most importantly, the habit of prayer at regular hours.

Royal Palace Footman Back Home ….But Certainly It is not the End Of the Road For Him !!!

The Royal Family’s footman who enjoyed world-wide fame on the day of the birth Prince George has returned to the Calcutta slum he grew up in.

Falling foul of new immigration laws, Badar Azim, a 25-year-old hospitality management graduate, has returned to his family in eastern India, where relatives beaming with pride have welcomed him home.

The young graduate accompanied the Queen’s press secretary Ailsa Anderson in placing the announcement of Prince George’s birth on an easel outside Buckingham Palace last week.

Proud: Badar Azim (R)

Proud: Badar Azim (R), who enjoyed world-wide fame on the day of the birth of Prince George, son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, poses with his brother Muhammad Samir (second from right), father Muhammad Rahim (centre) and mother Mumtaz Begum (L) outside their home in Calcutta, Eastern India today

The Royal footman

The Royal footman became a well-known face globally when he accompanied the Queen’s Press Secretary Ailsa Anderson to place the Royal notice proclaiming the birth of a baby boy to Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge last week.

But just days later, his visa expired; he was unable to renegotiate his right to work in the country; and he quit his coveted post at the Royal Household. He has now arrived home – a world that perhaps couldn’t be more different from the life he had lived last week.

Ironically it appears that Mr Azim, whose chronically poor family scrimped and saved every penny they had in order to educate him, has fallen foul of strict new immigration laws because of his notoriously meagre palace salary of around £14,000 a year.

Mr Azim, who first came to Britain to study for a degree in hospitality, was one of a number of migrants living legally in Britain on a student visa who were allowed to stay on for two years at the end of their course and work.

But under the new points-based system, those applying to extend their visa after it expires must prove they are not taking a job which could be done by a native worker.

This means they need specialist skills which are in shortage among Britons, or for them to prove that they meet a minimum salary threshold, currently set at around £20,000 a year – neither of which applied to his palace footman’s post.

A friend of Mr Azim, who flew home last weekend shortly before his visa was due to run out, said: ‘It’s a crying shame, really. You couldn’t meet anyone more dutiful, hard-working and determined than Badar.

‘The new regulations were brought in for a very good reason, we all understand that. Particularly him. It’s just rather ironic that someone like Badar, who follows every regulation to the letter, is prevented from working here, compared to the many thousands who slip through the system.’

Mr Azim found fame on Monday last week when he was photographed with the Queen’s press secretary displaying the official announcement of the birth of the Duke and Duchess’s new son on an easel in the palace forecourt.

Resplendent in his black and red livery, it was complete chance that he was chosen for the job. In fact it would have fallen to the footman on duty at that moment, at the palace’s privy purse entrance.

‘The rota changes every three hours and it was a complete fluke. But he was a very popular member of staff and everyone was chuffed to bits for him,’ one official told the Mail.

His welder father Mohammed Rahim and mother, Mumtaz Begum, who are among nine members of the extended family sharing a shabby two-room home in one of Calcutta’s most impoverished slums, were unaware of the honour and only learnt of his starring role after his picture was reproduced in a local newspaper.

Mr Rahim, who has three sons, of which Badar is the eldest, used to regularly go without food in order pay for his son to be educated.

He was eventually taken in by the charitable St Mary’s Orphanage and Day School before being sponsored to go to the International Institute of Hotel Management College in the city.

The orphanage also raised £10,000 for him to complete his degree at the Edinburgh’s Napier University, from where he graduated in June 2011.

He secured his footman’s post in February the following year, a job which involved everything from greeting guests, serving at banquets or receptions and tending to the Queen personally.

He was also given a room in staff quarters at the Royal Mews, adjacent to the palace.

Although he was forced to sign strict staff confidentiality agreements, proud Mr Azim posted a photograph of himself outside Buckingham Palace on one social network site, as well as shots of royal residences such as Balmoral where he would have been required to work when the Queen was on holiday.

According to sources, he loved his job so much he explored the possibility of extending his visa with the palace personnel department, but discovered that due to his low salary and coveted position he was extremely unlikely to be successful.

As a result he did chose not reapply to the Home Office and flew back to India four days ago.

A source said: ‘It is a real shame as he was a very good member of staff about whom people only have very positive things to say. But it just goes to show that the rules are the rules, no matter who you work for.

‘He was here on a two-year visa and always knew it was going to expire. As a result he flew home at the weekend in good spirits and very rightly proud of what he had achieved.’

A Buckingham Palace spokesman declined to comment last night, saying it was policy never to discuss staff members.

What Happens In ONE Minute on The Internet !!!!

In just a single minute on the web 216,000 photos are shared on Instagram, a total of £54,000 ($83,000) sales take place on Amazon, there are 1.8 million likes on Facebook and three days worth of video is uploaded to YouTube.

Cashback site Qmee has created an infographic that shows this information as well as how many tweets are sent, photos are viewed, Skype calls are made, domains are registered and more in 60 seconds.

The graphic pulls information and figures from PC Mag, Business Insider and other sites to create a the snapshot.

Qmee Online in 60 Seconds Infographic

Google performs 2 million searches each minute and 72 hours worth of video is uploaded to YouTube within the space of 60 seconds.

The infographic also claims that 70 new domains are registered and 571 new website are created within a minute online, at the same time there are 1.8 million likes on Facebook, 204 million emails sent and 278,000 tweets posted.

Go-Globe.com designed a similar graphic in June last year. By comparison, the amount of emails sent has increased by 36million a minute.

There are almost four times more Google searches than a year ago, and 180,000 more tweets are sent.

YouTube video uploads have increased from 25 hours up to three days.

Relatives and friends now spend the equivalent of 1.4 million minutes chatting over Skype, compared to 370,000 minutes last year.

Facebook figures appear to have dropped, however. This year there are on average 41,000 status updates every second – 246,000 a minute – whereas according to Go-Globe’s figures, this time last year the figure was in excess of 695,000.

Exactly the same amount of domain names were created per minute in 2012 and 2013 according to the graphics.

Cashback site Qmee has created an infographic that shows how many tweets are sent, Facebook posts are liked, Skype calls are made and YouTube videos are viewed in a single minute across the internet.

The two graphics did not use exactly the same data sources meaning that the relationship is not directly comparable but it does give an indication about which sites and services are soaring and which are staying the same, or losing favour.

The increase in posts across social networks has also seen an increase of what’s been dubbed ‘Twinglish’.

Social media monitoring company Brandwatch found that one in every 150 English words used on Twitter is spelt incorrectly.

On Facebook, one in 323 words are spelt incorrectly, on Google+ it’s one in 238 and one in 556 words is incorrect on online forums.

Women also favour the use of elongated words  such as ‘sooooo’ and ‘loool’ on social networks.

Message For The Day….Any Grief can be Cured Thro Medicine Prescribed in The Vedas !!!

If only the culture which is based on the Vedas, and expounded in the Ramayana and the Bhagavatha, is practised with a true understanding of its value, people can ensure for themselves perpetual joy or bliss. The Vedas exhort: Sathyam Vada; Dharmam Chara (Speak the truth; practise righteousness). What is Sathyam and Dharmam? The Ramayana and the Bhagavatha reveal this knowledge through story and example so that anyone, however poor or illiterate they may be, can understand, practice it and benefit by it. Grief is the illness; it has to be cured. The medicine is prescribed in the Vedas; it is taught in the scriptures; it has to be discovered and taken in; then the experience of bliss will certainly follow. Of this, there is no doubt.

The Incredible Journey of A Poor Boy From Kolkata to a Starring Role In Buckingham Palace !!!!

He began life in a slum apartment in the backstreets of Calcutta, yet rose to become the Royal footman who announced Prince George’s birth to an expectant nation.

To the cheers of thousands of people standing patiently outside Buckingham Palace, it was Badar Azim who strode proudly across the courtyard with the Queen’s Press Secretary Ailsa Anderson to mount the official acknowledgement of the baby’s safe arrival on an ornate easel.

Resplendent in his scarlet and black footman’s outfit, the uniform gave no clue to his humble background.

Footman Badar Azim with the Queen's Press Secretary Ailsa Anderson holding the announcement of Prince George's birthMoment of glory: Footman Badar Azim with the Queen’s Press Secretary Ailsa Anderson holding the announcement of Prince George’s birth

It is hard to imagine a prouder moment for a young man who has worked his way up from one of the most poverty-stricken corners of the world.

It was a mere twist of fate that Badar, 25, happened to be on duty at the Privy Purse door after the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to the third in line to the Throne.

But this simple coincidence seems fitting in a 21st Century fairytale that has delighted his impoverished family in India.

Badar’s father Mohammed Rahim, a 52-year-old welder who earns £33 a month, and his mother Mumtaz Begum, 41, still live in the same slum dwelling in a rundown area of Calcutta where Badar spent his childhood. They are overwhelmed to be thrown into the spotlight thanks to their son’s success.

But according to the footman’s brother Mazhar, 20, who spoke to him after his starring role in delivering the news of the Royal birth, Badar himself has taken the whole experience in his stride.

Badar Azim, right, enjoyed a proud moment announcing the birth on MondayJoyous occasion: Badar Azim, right, enjoyed a proud moment announcing the birth on Monday

‘He acted very normal about  it but it was a proud moment for  him,’ said Mazhar. ‘My parents are  so proud. They knew nothing about the British Royal Family before he got the job. They were really surprised.

‘We did not know about any of it beforehand. We only read about it in the newspapers. My parents think Badar is blessed.’

Standing in their dank, two-room home, which is shared between nine members of their extended family including Badar’s other brother, 14-year-old Md Sameer, the footman’s mother added: ‘I am feeling on top of the world.’

To give you an idea of just how far Badar has travelled in his 25 years, just getting inside his family home requires negotiating several water-logged flights of stairs.

A bed dominates the shabby main room. In terms of other material assets, all the family own is a television and a couple of plastic chairs.

But although Badar’s father was barely able to afford to put food on the table, he valued the importance of education and scrimped and saved to send Badar to school.

‘We were an economically challenged family,’ said Mazhar quietly. ‘Our parents let us boys sleep on the bed and they slept on the floor. But my father wanted us to go to a good school so that we could learn.

‘He even borrowed money so that we could go forward.’

After struggling at a public school in the city, Badar was taken in by the charitable St Mary’s Orphanage and Day School.

Run by the Congregation of Christian Brothers of Ireland, it aims to help the destitute, homeless and underprivileged. Badar thrived in his new environment.

‘He is a funny guy and very creative,’ added Mazhar. ‘He used to play sports a lot. He was very enthusiastic but also serious about his studies.’

The orphanage later sponsored Badar to go to the International Institute of Hotel Management College in Calcutta, where he embarked on a degree in hospitality management.

Sanjukta Bose, the director of  the college, recalls an eager and diligent student. ‘He was a decent boy who never created any problems,’  she said.

‘He was well-mannered and a good communicator. He was also punctual, well-groomed and decent, which is essential for roles in hotel management.’

After completing his first two years at the Institute, the orphanage raised another £10,000 to fly Badar to Scotland, where he completed his degree at Edinburgh’s Napier University.

He lived in digs in the Scottish capital, where he cooked his own curries because he could not get used to British cuisine. During his final year at Napier, Badar organised a ten-mile charity walk to raise money for the orphanage’s sponsorship scheme.

He graduated on June 15, 2011, and landed a job as a junior footman at Buckingham Palace in February the following year.

‘The conditions I live in now are so different from how I lived in India,’ he said.

‘The orphanage literally helps transform the lives of hundreds of children each year. The charity enabled me to come to Edinburgh and complete my studies – something others in India can only dream of.

Humble begginngs: Azim, pictured in the yellow t-shirtHumble begginngs: Azim, pictured in the yellow t-shirt, with his old classmates

‘If I hadn’t gone to St Mary’s, I would be working somewhere on the streets of Calcutta. It would have been very difficult to get a job in India because unless you have a good degree, you will not get a good job and a good salary.’

Pauline Gordon, a lecturer at Edinburgh’s Napier University, who leads the India Partnership – a scheme to bring disadvantaged children from the subcontinent to Britain – said: ‘Badar is the sweetest of boys I have met.

‘He’s particularly shy, quite reserved and old-fashioned. He’s also humble, polite and gracious.

‘He used to call me Ma’am but I told him to call me Pauline so now he calls me Pauline Ma’am – and I am only his teacher!

‘I got the shock of my life seeing him on television. I am so proud of him. He has done extremely well.

‘It took him a good few months to get the job at the Palace – he had a first interview and then the staff had to check out his credentials in India.

‘But he loves working at Buckingham Palace. He has been there for 18 months and has met the Queen.

‘At the moment he’s trying to extend his visa to stay in the country.

‘It runs out in October so he is trying to get the paperwork together and sort it out.

What Your Flight Number Really Means !!!

Travellers look at the departures and arrivals board. Picture: AP

Travellers look at the departures and arrivals board. Picture: AP

HAVE you ever glanced at your airline ticket on the way to your boarding gate, or searched for it on the departure board, only to wonder just how your flight number was decided?

It turns out that you can learn a lot about a flight from its number.

We asked airline pilot, and author of the book Cockpit Confidential and the website askthepilot.com Patrick Smith just what those numbers really mean.

Technically, a flight number is a combination of numbers and letters, usually prefaced with the carrier’s two-letter International Air Transport Association (IATA) code – the international industry trade group of airlines.

Airlines can organise them according to the importance of the routes.

“Airlines often give lower numbers to their more prestigious, long-distance routes,” Mr Smith said. “If there’s a flight 001 in an airline’s timetables, it’s the stuff of London-Sydney or Paris-New York.”

For example, Qantas is flying QF1 from Sydney-Dubai-London today.

Flight numbers also have a key planning function and are usually grouped geographically.

Mr Smith said most airlines give eastbound flights even numbers, while westbound flights get odd numbers.

Qantas told news.com.au that they give odd numbers to outbound international flights, and even numbers for inbound flights to Australia.

Qantas flight numbers between 1-399 are international flights, including codeshare. Flight numbers higher than 400 are Qantas domestic service.

Meanwhile, all trans-Pacific flights operated by airlines such as United Airlines use three-digit numbers beginning with 8, which is considered lucky in many Asian cultures. Qantas says they also try to include an 8 in its Hong Kong route flight numbers.

Airlines also avoid some unlucky numbers such as 13. For example, there is no QF13 or QF666.

As a general rule, any four-digit flight number beginning with a 3 or higher – i.e. 3493 – is usually an indication of a codeshare flight operated by a partner.

Flight numbers can survive a lot of change within the airline.

“Numbers can stay in use for many years, even as departure times and aircraft types may change,” Mr Smith said.

“In some cases they outlast airlines themselves: To this day, some of the flight numbers used by Delta on its European routes trace their origins back to Pan Am, whose European network was sold to Delta more than 20 years ago.”

But other times, they just have to be scrapped.

“After an accident, one of the first things an airline does is retire the number, out of respect.

“For example, there’s no longer a flight 11 operated by American Airlines on its Boston-Los Angeles route. Flight 11 went all the way back to the days of the Boeing 707, but its final departure was on September 11th, 2001, when it was hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center.”
