After facing the heaviest rainfall in over a century, Chennai is now struggling because of immense shortage of drinking water. The roads are flooded with sewage water, and many buildings are submerged up to the first and second floors. Residents in several parts of the city have been stranded without food and drinking water since the past few days.

In such a situation, a Bangalore based entrepreneur, Dinesh Jain, has reached Chennai with a gift that has the potential to solve the scarcity of drinking water there.

He has put together a mobile unit, the Amritdhara plant, which can convert 20,000 litres of any kind of water into drinking water. Thus, flood water from the street can be converted into drinking water using this unit that has been mounted on a truck, and can be moved around.

Dinesh is currently in Chennai and is doing his best to fight the situation there. He informed that the unit utilises Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology to purify water. It is basically a process in which a majority of pollutants from impure water are removed by passing it under pressure through a semi permeable membrane. For this, the water is first pumped from the source into the purification unit. It then undergoes a primary treatment to separate the heavy particles. This is followed by treatment of water with Aluminium Sulphate, also known as Alum, to initiate coagulation. Turbidity of water is removed by passing it through a filter and it is pumped through a cartridge filter to eliminate all particles larger than five micrometres. This water is then passed through a high pressure piston pump into a series of vessels where it undergoes reverse osmosis. The final water is 99.1% free from impurities.

Dinesh is currently working in Koyambedu area of Chennai. He has started treating water. Distribution has not begun yet because he wants to wait for the lab results stating the purity of the water. Dinesh informed that he has not received any help or support from the government until now. He was in Chennai for the whole day on Friday, but was not given permission to begin work. Finally, some supportive people in the administration told him to proceed.

“Money does not mean everything,” says Dinesh. In Chennai, he met a young professional who narrated how he had been fighting for appraisal at his work place before all this devastation.

“He was earning lakhs every month but today, will all his money, he was not able to meet his basic needs like clean drinking water. This made me realise the value of money.”

In times of need it is only what one man can do for another that’s important. All the money in the world cannot buy you survival.

ஏ.டி.எம் கார்டு இருக்கிறது. பணம் எடுக்க முடியவில்லை.

கையில் பணம் இருக்கிறது. அத்தியாவசியப் பொருட்கள் கிடைக்கவில்லை.

மொபைல் போன் இருக்கிறது. சொந்த பந்தங்களின் சுகம் அறிய முடியவில்லை.

வண்டி இருக்கிறது. ஓட்டுவதற்கு எரிபொருள் இல்லை.

ஒரு கரப்பான்பூச்சி வீட்டுக்குள் நுழைந்து விட்டாலே, ஊரைக் கூட்டும் பெண்மணிகள், அழையா விருந்தாளியாக உள்ளே நுழைந்த மழை வெள்ளத்தில் சகல விதமான ஜந்துக்களையும் பார்த்து விட்டார்கள்.

பாலுக்கும், காய்கறிக்கும், பிரட்டுக்கும் ஜனங்கள் தேடித் தேடி அலைந்த காட்சி நெஞ்சைப் பதற வைக்கும் ஒன்று. இறைவா, இனி இந்த அவலம் எந்தக் காலத்திலும் – எந்த ஊரிலும் – எவருக்கும் நடக்க வேண்டாம் என்று பிரார்த்தித்துக் கொள்கிறேன்.

பிஞ்சு வெண்டைக்காயைப் பொறுக்கிப் பொறுக்கி எடுத்த பெண்மணிகள், கடைகளில் கிடைக்கிற காய்கறியை ‘அடுத்தவர்கள் எடுத்துப் போய் விடுவார்களோ?’ என்கிற அவசரத்தில் அள்ளி அள்ளிப் போட்டுக் காசைக் கொடுத்த காட்சி, பரிதாபம்!

– இதுதான் சமீப நாட்களில் சென்னையின் நிலை.

சுமார் 100 வருடங்களுக்கு முன் இது போன்ற மழை சென்னையில் பெய்ததாம். நம் தாத்தாவுக்குத் தாத்தா பார்த்ததை, நாம் இப்போது பார்த்திருக்கிறோம். கொடுமையான சோகம்!

சுனாமி பார்த்து விட்டோம்.

புயலைப் பார்த்து விட்டோம்.

ஆச்சு. வெள்ளத்தின் விஸ்வரூபத்தையும் பார்த்து விட்டோம்.

சென்னை, காஞ்சிபுரம், திருவள்ளூர், கடலூர் போன்ற பல பகுதிகளில் பெய்த மழை உலகத்தையே உலுக்கிப் போட்டு விட்டது.

நாம் பிறருக்குத் தீங்கு செய்தால், அதன் எதிர்விளைவு நம்மைத் தாக்கும். ஆனால், எப்போது என்று தெரியாது.

அதேபோல் இயற்கைக்கு நாம் தீங்கு செய்தால், அது வரிந்து கட்டிக் கொண்டு நம்மைத் தாக்கும் என்பதை அடிக்கடி பார்த்துக் கொண்டுத்தான் இருக்கிறோம்.

ஆனால், திருந்தினபாடில்லை.

இயற்கைக்கு எதிரான நம் நடவடிக்கைகளை நிறுத்தினபாடில்லை.

பஞ்சபூதங்கள் ஆராதனை பல்லாயிரக்கணக்கான ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னால் இருந்தே இருந்து வருகிறது.

ஆனால், இன்று?

பணம் பணம் பணம் என்று வாழ்வாதாரங்களான பஞ்சபூதங்களைப் பாழ்படுத்தி வருகிறோம்.

நீர்நிலைகளை சேதப்படுத்தி விட்டோம்.

வாயு மண்டலத்தை மாசுபடுத்தி விட்டோம்.

நிலத்தைக் கீறிக் கீறி வீடுகள் கட்டிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறோம்.

நீரை ஆராதித்தித்தோம். நிலத்தை வணங்கினோம். எல்லாமும் எல்லாமே தந்தன.

இன்று நிலத்தில் நீர் இருக்கின்ற இடத்தைத் தேட வேண்டி இருக்கிறது.

கிடைக்கிற நீர், எந்த அளவுக்கு சுத்தம் என்பதையும் ஆராய வேண்டி இருக்கிறது.

ஒன்றும் மோசம் போய் விடவில்லை. செய்த தவறுகளுக்குக் குழந்தைகள் மன்னிப்பு கேட்டுத் தாயின் கால்களைப் பிடித்துக் கட்டிக் கொள்வதில்லையா?

அதுபோல்

கங்கையில் நீருக்கு வழிபாடு உண்டு.

நம்மூரில் இருக்கிறதா? புனிதமான ஆற்று நீரில்தான் எல்லா அசிங்கமும் (கங்கையிலும் இன்று அசிங்கம் நடக்கிறது).

விவசாய நிலங்களை அஞ்சுக்கும் பத்துக்கும் ஆசைப்பட்டு வீடாக்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறோம்.

‘இருக்க இடம் தேவை’ என்று நீர் நிலைகளை அழித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறோம்.

போகட்டும். போனதெல்லாம் ஒரு கெட்ட கனவாக இருக்கட்டும்.

இயற்கையை ஆராதிப்போம்.

அது நமக்கு எல்லாமும் தரும்.

வெறும் பணத்தை வைத்துக் கொண்டு எதையும் சாதிக்க முடியாது என்பதை சமீப நாட்களில் பார்த்தாயிற்று.

பக்தி வேண்டும். நேர்மை வேண்டும். செய்கிற செயல்களில் நியாயம் வேண்டும்.

இறைவா, நான் வணங்கும் காஞ்சி மகா தெய்வமே…

The body is the temple of the individual (jiva), so whatever happens in that temple is the concern of that individual. So too the world is the body of the Lord, and all that happens in it, good or bad, is His concern. From the observed fact of the relationship between the individual and the body, know the truth of the unobservable relationship of the Lord and creation. The relationship of the individual (jiva) and the Lord, the kinship between the two, can be grasped by everyone who acquires three chief instruments: (1) a mind unsullied by attachment and hatred, (2) a speech unsullied by falsehood and (3) a body unsullied by violence. Joy and peace do not reside in external objects; they are within you. But in your foolishness, you search for them outside yourself, in a world from which, today or tomorrow, you are bound to depart. Therefore, wake up now! Try to know the essence of the eternal truth. Try to experience the love that is God Himself.

” I Love you My Darling daughter….”

This beautiful story is a real eye-opener, one that really touched my heart, making me aware of the many times, I hate to admit, that I took my own mother for granted when she needed me most. The letter offers a heart-wrenching perspective for when ‘the day’ arrives, detailing the many patient moments that this mother had with her child when she was younger- the repeated stories, the forgotten details, the minor inconveniences. She uses these experiences to help her beloved daughter overlook all the difficulties that her mother now faces in old age, asking her to cherish the time they have together.

My Dear Girl

The day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through.

If when we talk, I repeat the same thing a thousand times, don’t interrupt to say: ‘You said the same thing a minute ago’… just listen please. Try to remember the times when you were little and I would read the same story night after night until you would fall asleep.

When I don’t want to take a bath, don’t be mad and don’t embarrass me. Remember when I had to run after you making excuses and trying to get you to take a shower when you were just a girl?

When you see how ignorant I am when it comes to new technology, give me the time to learn and don’t look at me that way… remember honey, I patiently taught you how to do many things like eating appropriately, getting dressed, combing your hair and dealing with life’s issues every day.

The day you see me getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through.

If I occasionally lose track of what we’re talking about, give me the time to remember, and if I can’t, don’t be nervous, impatient or arrogant. Just know in your heart, the most important thing for me is to be with you.

And when my old, tired legs don’t let me move as quickly as before, give me your hand the same way I offered mine to you when you first walked.

When those days come, don’t feel sad… just be with me, and understand me while I get to the end of my life with love. I’ll cherish and thank you for the gift of time and joy we shared.

With a big smile and the huge love I’ve always had for you, I just want to say…

The Lord is attained only through supreme devotion (para-bhakthi).Supreme devotion can be acquired only through spiritual wisdom (jnana).Spiritual wisdom can be cultivated only through faith (sraddha), and faith comes only through love. So how is love to be cultivated? Through two methods: 1. Always consider the faults of others, however big, to be insignificant and negligible. Always consider your own faults, however insignificant and negligible, to be big, and feel sad and repentant. By these means, you avoid developing bigger faults and defects, and acquire the qualities of brotherliness and forbearance. 2. Whatever you do, with yourself or with others, do it remembering that God is omnipresent. He sees, hears and knows everything. Discriminate between the true and the false, and speak only the truth. Discriminate between right and wrong, and do only the right. Endeavour every moment to be aware of the omnipotence of God.

As I sit alone in a rather pensive mood, attempting a mental resume
of my student life at His Lotus Feet, the thought overawes me that, in
fact, seven precious summers have passed since I entered the portals
of this paradise. It is unbelievableâ€¦ for was it not only yesterday
that I joined Bhagawanâ€™s college? Verily one forgets to keep track
of time when one is living with Eternity Itself.

The thought gives me joy with a tinge of sorrow, for when I try to
peep into the inner recesses of my heart to find the glow of His Love,
I at once discover that He has been unfailing in His bountiful love
for me. Inspite of knowing that He is the way and the goal for all of
us without Whom our lives would not bear any meaning or taste, we fail
to understand His Love.

On a number of occasions, He has reminded us to realise the DIVINITY
in Him and not to be deluded by external appearances. Through parables
and examples, jokes and stories He has been constantly trying to drive
home that TRUTH in all of us.

One such golden moment came in my life on a bright morning. The Day
was the 7th of November 1984. All of us were eagerly awaiting
Swamiâ€™s Darshan. As He came out, He picked up four boys and I was
one of the fortunate four. Swami directed us to go to the anteroom in
the Mandir apparently to clean and tidy up the room.

After going round the devotees and granting them the much-coveted
darshan, Swami came straight into the room, where we were engaged in
cleaning the place. We all stood in front of Him with folded hands.
Swami in His characteristic and Divine way proceeded to grant us one
of the rarest moments of our lives.

Swami pointed to a deerskin which was rolled and kept on a rack, and
addressed one of the boys, â€œTake this deer skin to the Himalayas and
do Tapasya there?â€ For a moment the boy was nonplussed. â€œDid He
really mean it? Is Swami telling seriously or is it meant to be a
pleasant joke?â€ There was silence for a few seconds, while Swami
waited for an answer from us. Swami looked at me and asked, â€œIs it
good to do Tapasya in the Himalayas?â€ I promptly said, â€œYes
Swami.â€ But this answer did not satisfy Him. He Himself said, â€œDo
you not realise that the RESULT of all Tapasya is Here?â€ and pointed
at Himself.

He thus gave us a glimpse of His Divinity and showed that there is no
need to do Tapasya in the Himalayas when the object of all such
endeavours was right in front of us in flesh and blood. He continued,
â€œWhenever I give darshan to those who are engaged in penance in the
Himalayas, even for a few seconds, they feel extremely blissful for
having attained that Vision Of God. And they regard it as a great
experience. But you all are having My darshan every morning and
evening, yet, you never realise the value of it.

He gave further a beautiful illustration. â€œWhenever people desire
to see an elephant they go to the forest. And by chance, if they see
even the tail of an elephant whose body might have been hidden among
the bushes and shrubs, they feel immense joy at having seen an
elephant. In your case, there is an elephant (Sai Geeta) in front of
your hostel. But you do not pine to see her, because she is a familiar
sight.â€

We must realise the value of His Divine Darshan from these examples.
Since we are blessed with the opportunity to be near Him, we should
make the best use of each and every moment of our life here.
Sometimes, we may be confused by delusion and despair. In those weak
moments, we must pray to Swami for His benign grace so that we may
always feel His Presence within us.

Message for the Day…” God is Everywhere and is all Powerful …”

I have often said, “My Life is My Message”. Avatars make such a proclamation only to demonstrate their Divinity. They are children among children, men among men, and women among women, so that they may respond to everyone’s joy and sorrow, console them and infuse confidence and courage into their drooping hearts. Avatars appear among humans since birds, beasts, trees, etc. have not slid into unnatural ways. It is only human beings pursuing the mirage of worldly happiness and sensual pleasure, who have forgotten the task for which they came to earth. God assumes human form only to restore Dharma and lead you back into the path of virtue and wisdom! Hence God is pleased with the rigorous adherence to Dharma. Practice righteousness, it will fill every moment of your life with bliss and the joy of self-realisation. God is everywhere. He is all-powerful. He sees everything. He resides in every heart and listens to every agony and prayer. Have faith in God.

Hukou Waterfall: The Yellow Waterfall…….

The Hukou Waterfall on China’s Yellow River has very modest dimensions. It’s just 30 meters wide, increasing to 50 meters during flood season, and only 20 meters tall. Despite these small figures, it is the largest waterfall on the Yellow River, and the second largest waterfall in the country. It is also unusual because of its yellowish but mostly brownish appearance due to the presence of silt and mud. Thousands of tourists come to see this waterfall and experience its thundering roar, especially during the floods when the waterfall is at its mightiest.

The waterfall is located at a place where the mighty Yellow River is squeezed through a narrow valley blocked by mountains on both sides. This valley is called the Jinxia Grand Canyon and it lies at the boundary of Shanxi Province and Shaanxi Province. The riverbed abruptly narrows down from 300 meters to less than 50 meters turning the placid water to rapids. The roaring waters then plunges over a narrow opening on a cliff forming a waterfall about 20 meters tall. The constricted opening and the turbulent waters apparently reminded people of boiling water being poured from a kettle or teapot, because Hukou literally means “flask mouth”.
