KLM, or the Royal Dutch Airlines, is nothing if not dramatic and after that much controversial and much adorable Sherlock ad, they are back in the news with a bang. This time with an airplane on rent. Listed on vacation rental site,  http://www.airbnb.com, the airline has on offer a retired KLM MD-11, white and blue flight and completely refurbished like a plush hotel. Of course, it’s a promotional stunt, but it’s a pretty good one at that.
THIS Might Break The Internet: An Airplane-Apartment You Could Live in For a Day

This is the airline’s shout out to airplane aficionados, who are required to “Pick any date and tell us why and with whom you would like to stay in the Airplane Apartment!”

The winner(s) of this contest will be offered a chance to stay in the airplane apartment in all its glory for a night.

For those wondering – no, the plane is not located in the middle of an exotic island amid sparkling blue water and pink sunrises and sunsets, but is “located right beside the runway of Amsterdam’s bustling Schiphol airport”.  But also for the record, the airplane has two bedrooms, eight bathrooms, library, kitchen, WiFi/internet, TV, air conditioning, a gaming console, and home theater with a stock of movies. So go figure.

This airplane comes with a few house rules which include:

1. No flying. (In case, you were planning on taking off in this airplane apartment.)
2. Don’t use the inflatable emergency slide. (In case, you were planning on imitating Batman.)
3. Smoking is not allowed when the non-smoking sign is on.
4. No marshmallow roasting with the jet engines.
5. Please water the plants and feed the fish. (Yes, please do.)
6. The consumption of alcohol is not allowed. (No drinking and flying. Thanks.)
7. Please treat the plane like you would treat your own plane. (But don’t get too attached. You have to return it the next day.)

சென்னை சட்டசபை, கேரள சட்டசபை உறுப்பினராக தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டு மக்கள் பணியில் ஈடுபட்ட கிருஷ்ணய்யரின் ஓய்வு சம்பளம் மாதம் தோறும் அவருடைய வங்கி கணக்கில் வரவு வைக்கப்படுகிறது. ஓய்வூதியத்தில் ஒரு பைசாவை கூட கிருஷ்ணய்யர் சொந்த தேவைகளுக்கு செலவிடுவது இல்லை. அதில் வரவு ரூ.ஒரு லட்சமாக உயர்ந்ததும், அனாதை குழந்தைகளின் கல்விக்காகவும், வளர்ச்சிக்காகவும் தொண்டு அமைப்புகளுக்கு அனுப்பி விடும் தர்ம சிந்தனையாளராக திகழ்கிறார்.

 

இன்றும் உதவிடும் தீர்ப்புகள்:

 

 

சுப்ரீம் கோர்ட் நீதிபதியாக இவர் வழங்கிய தீர்ப்புகள், வறியவர், எளியவர், பெண்கள், சிறார்கள், சிறைப்பட்டோர் என சமூகத்தின் கடைக்கோடி மக்களின் உரிமைகளை கோர்ட் மூலம் வென்றெடுக்க இன்றும் உதவுகின்றன. கேரள ஐகோர்ட் நீதிபதியிலிருந்து டில்லி சட்டகமிஷன் உறுப்பினராக பணிபுரிய சென்ற போது, எர்ணாகுளத்திலுள்ள சொந்த வீட்டை வருமான வரி தீர்ப்பாயத்திற்கு வாடகைக்கு விட்டார். 1980ல் சுப்ரீம் கோர்ட்டிலிருந்து ஓய்வு பெற்று திரும்பிய போது, அவரது வீட்டை காலி செய்ய மறுத்த வரி தீர்ப்பாயம், ‘கிருஷ்ணய்யர் ஒண்டிக்கட்டை தானே. மனைவியும் இறந்து விட்டார். மகன்களும் வெளி நாட்டில் வசிக்கின்றனர். இவருக்கு எதுக்கு இவ்வளவு பெரிய வீடு’ என்றது. சொந்த வீட்டின் வாடகைதாரர்களை காலி செய்ய கிருஷ்ணய்யர் உரிமையியல் கோர்ட்டில் வழக்கு தொடர்ந்து, ஐந்தாண்டுகள் போராடி வெற்றி பெற்றார். வாடகைதாரர்களை காலி செய்ய, அதிகாரத்தை துஷ்பிரயோகம் செய்து குறுக்கு வழியில் செல்லாமல் கோர்ட்டில் வழக்கு தொடர்ந்தது அவரது நேர்மைக்கும், சட்ட நடவடிக்கைகள் மீது அவருக்குள்ள அசைக்க முடியாத நம்பிக்கைக்கும் எடுத்துக்காட்டு.

 

நீதித்துறையின் பொற்காலம்:

 

 

சுப்ரீம் கோர்ட் நீதிபதியாக 1972 முதல் 1979 வரை கிருஷ்ணய்யர் பணிபுரிந்த காலம், நீதித்துறை பொற்காலம். பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்கள் யாராக இருந்தாலும், கோர்ட் கதவுகளை தட்டலாம் என்ற நம்பிக்கை விதை, மக்கள் மனதில் கிருஷ்ணய்யரின் தீர்ப்புகளால் விதைக்கப்பட்டது. பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர் மட்டுமே கோர்ட்டில் குறைகளை களைய வழக்கு தாக்கல் செய்ய முடியும். விதி விலக்காக பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மக்களுக்காக எந்த ஒரு குடிமகனும் வழக்கு தொடுப்பது பொது நல வழக்காடுதல் என்பர். பொது நல வழக்காடுதலை இந்திய நீதித்துறையில் பரவலாக அறிய செய்தவர் கிருஷ்ணய்யர். கோர்ட்டிற்கு வரும் கடிதங்கள், தந்திகளில் பிரச்னைகளின் முக்கியத்துவம் கருதி ரிட் மனுக்களாக ஏற்று உரிய உத்தரவுகளை பிறப்பித்தார். இவரது முற்போக்கான தீர்ப்புகளின் தொடர்ச்சியாக தான் இன்று தினமலர் உட்பட நாளிதழ் செய்திகள் கோர்ட்களில் தன்னிச்சையாக பொது நல வழக்குகளாக ஏற்கப்பட்டு, அரசுக்கு உத்தரவுகள் பிறப்பிக்கப்படுகின்றன.

 

மக்களை நோக்கி கோர்ட்:

 

 

‘கோர்ட்களை நோக்கி மக்கள் செல்வதை விட, மக்களை நோக்கி கோர்ட் செல்ல வேண்டும்’ என வலியுறுத்துபவர். வழக்கு செலவுத் தொகை இல்லாத வறியவர்களுக்கு உதவ, மாவட்டங்கள் தோறும் இலவச சட்ட உதவி மையங்கள் உருவாக வித்திட்டு நீதித்துறையின் துருவ நட்சத்திரமாக திகழ்பவர் கிருஷ்ணய்யர். ‘கடவுள் கொடுத்த உயிரை மனிதன் பறிக்க அதிகாரமில்லை’ என மரணதண்டனைக்கு எதிராக ‘அரிஜன்’ இதழில் காந்திஜி கூறிய கருத்துக்களால் கவரப்பட்ட கிருஷ்ணய்யர், மரண தண்டனைக்கு எதிராக குரல் கொடுத்து வருகிறார். குற்றவாளிகள் தண்டிக்கப்படுவதை விட சீர்திருத்தப்பட வேண்டும் என்ற கொள்கை உடையவர். பாதிக்கப்பட்டோரின் உரிமைகள், பெண்கள் மற்றும் சிறார்களின் உரிமைகள், சிறைவாசிகளின் உரிமைகள் குறித்து, இவர் வழங்கிய தீர்ப்புகளால் ‘மனித உரிமை சட்டவியலின் பிதாமகன்’ என அறியப்படுகிறார்.

 

மகன் வழக்காட தடை:

 

 

மகன் பரமேஷ்வர் சட்டப்படிப்பு முடித்து இளம் வக்கீலாக தொழிலை துவங்கிய போது, கிருஷ்ணய்யர் சுப்ரீம் கோர்ட் நீதிபதியாக இருந்தார். தான் உயர் பதவியில் இருக்கும் போது, மகன் கோர்ட்டில் வழக்காடி உத்தரவுகளை பெற்றால் தவறாக பேசப்படும் எனக்கருதிய கிருஷ்ணய்யர், ‘பதவி காலம் முடியும் வரை மகன் பரமேஷ்வர் எந்த கோர்ட்டிலும் வழக்காட வேண்டாம்’ என தடை போட்டு, நீதித்துறை வாழ்வில் உயர் அறநெறிகளை கடைபிடித்தவர். மேற்கத்திய மோகத்தை அறவே வெறுத்தவர். சென்னை கிரிக்கெட் கிளப் வளாகத்தில் நடந்த விருந்தில் சிறப்பு அழைப்பாளராக வேட்டி சட்டை அணிந்து சென்ற கிருஷ்ணய்யர், வாயிற்காவலர்களால் தடுக்கப்பட்டார். கோட், சூட் அணிந்து வந்தால் தான் உள்ளே நுழைய முடியும் என்ற விதிகளை ஏற்க மறுத்து, அங்கிருந்த வருகை பதிவேட்டில் கண்டனத்தை பதிவு செய்த பிறகு, நிகழ்ச்சியை புறக்கணித்து வெளியேறினார். மனிதாபிமானமே சட்டத்தின் அடிப்படை என தீர்ப்புகளை வழங்கியவர். பல்வேறு நன்னெறி கோட்பாடுகளுடனும், உயர்ந்த அறத்துடனும் நம் முன்னே நடமாடும் சாட்சியாக, வாழும் வரலாற்று நாயகராக கிருஷ்ணய்யர் திகழ்கிறார்.

He may not be old enough to open a Facebook account, but has a tip or two about how Internet users can protect their content from hackers. This and much more found mention in eight-year-old Reuben Paul’s keynote address on the second day of a summit on cyber security held here.

On Children’s Day, Reuben’s presentation also focussed on online threats faced by millions of children using the Internet across the world. He discussed various aspects like cyber bullying, exposure to undesirable content and falling prey to hacking.

The large audience, which listened to him with rapt attention, was not only exclusively adult but comprised renowned cyber experts and even policy-makers.

Most of them said that Reuben not only impressed them with his repository of knowledge but also his skills and style.

The audience were treated to a display of Reuben’s secondary skills – his deftness of Kung Fu, something he has been learning for a while.

Hailed as a prodigy, Reuben even serves as the CEO of a company that develops Apps which help children learn mathematics, science and, of course, cyber security.

It all began at the age of five, said father Mano Paul – an expert on cyber security himself who travels across the globe delivering lectures on the subject.

Mr. Paul, who hails from Tamil Nadu and was living in Orissa before migrating to the United States nearly a decade ago, said Reuben was drawn to computers instinctively and his sheer inquisitiveness had won him worldwide reputation.

His mother Sangeetha said his aptitude to learn doesn’t stop at computers and Kung Fu.

“He goes for swimming, gymnastics, piano and hockey lessons. He also plans to join cooking and basketball classes from next year,” she said.

So does it affect his grades? “He is an A-lister,” she said, adding that a balance between studies and other activities was maintained by going for one activity per day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday shared with his Australian counterpart Tony Abbott and U.S. President Barack Obama the fascinating story of Walter Burley Griffin the well-known American architect who designed Australian capital Canberra and buried in Lucknow.

Griffin, who died on February 11, 1937 at the age of 61 years, was a landscape architect who hailed from the U.S. He is known for designing Canberra, Australia’s capital city and has been credited with the development of the L-shaped floor plan, the carport and an innovative use of reinforced concrete.

Influenced by the Chicago-based Prairie School, Griffin developed a unique modern style. He worked in partnership with his wife Marion Mahony Griffin.

Griffin came to India in 1935 to design a library for the Lucknow University. He stayed on to design several other buildings in Lucknow, including the headquarters of the famed daily, The Pioneer, for which he also regularly wrote. However, he passed away in 1937 before completing most of his assignments and was buried in Lucknow.

” Philae probe drills into comet, turns toward light…”

The spacecraft that landed on a comet performed two tricky maneuvers Friday, by drilling into the rocky surface and rotating itself to catch more sunlight.

Both operations carried considerable risks, because they could have toppled the probe or pushed it out into the void. But without them the Philae lander that scored a historic first by touching down on a comet Wednesday risked skipping a key scientific experiment and running out of battery.

Scientists at the European Space Agency said the maneuvers appeared to have worked.

“My rotation was successful (35 degrees). Looks like a whole new comet from this angle,” read a message posted on the lander’s official Twitter account.

Earlier, the scientists tweeted: “First comet drilling is a fact!”

Since landing on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko some 311 million miles (500 million kilometers) away, the lander has performed a series of tests and sent reams of data, including photos, back to Earth.

But with just two or three days of power in its primary battery, the lander has to rely on solar panels to generate electricity after that.

The space agency said late Friday that the batteries eventually depleted and without enough sunlight to recharge them, Philae fell into ‘idle mode,’ and all instruments and most of the systems on board shut down.

However, “Prior to falling silent, the lander was able to transmit all science data gathered during the First Science Sequence,” said Stephan Ulamec, lander manager.

Scientists were concerned to find Thursday that not only had Philae unexpectedly bounced twice before coming to rest untethered to the surface, but photos indicated it was next to a cliff that largely blocked sunlight from reaching two of its three solar panels.

With time running out, scientists decided to risk moving the lander and performing one of the most important experiments it was sent into space for.

Material beneath the surface of the comet has remained almost unchanged for 4.5 billion years, making the mining samples a cosmic time capsule that scientists are eager to study.

Mission controllers said Philae was able to bore 25 centimeters (10 inches) into the comet to start collecting the samples, but it’s unclear whether it has enough power to deliver any information on them.

It also wasn’t immediately clear whether the rotation had succeeded in putting the lander’s solar panels out of the shadow. Scientists are likely to know for sure early Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Rosetta — Philae’s mother ship, which is streaking through space in tandem with the comet — will use its 11 instruments to analyze the comet over the coming months.

Scientists hope the $1.6 billion (1.3 billion-euro) project that was launched a decade ago will help them answer questions about the origins of the universe and life on Earth.

Communication with the lander is slow, with signals taking more than 28 minutes to travel between Earth and Rosetta.

“Let’s stop looking at things that we could have done if everything had worked properly,” said flight director Andrea Accomazzo. “Let us look at things that we have done, what we have achieved and what we have on the ground. This is unique and will be unique forever.”

This pre-YouTube video is of Catherine Destivelle soloing in Mali. Filmed in 1987, High Magazine commented,

“the film Seo of her soloing on a sandstone cliff in the Mali desert is one that has been seen worldwide and the one clear image that has stuck in the minds of the general public in Britain”.

This was undoubtedly true at the time, and most climbers of a certain generation will have seen this film before, however now that video is ubiquitous across the internet, it is easy to forget such classics as this.

The film examines the local people, the Dogons of Sanga, for whom climbing is part of their everyday life. Catherine is fascinated by these people, and they admire her daring solo climbs.

செல்லும் வழியில் ஸ்ரீசரணாளுக்குச் செய்தி வந்தது. பயணத்தைத் தொடராமல், இருந்த இடத்திலேயே அப்போதைக்கு ‘நிப்பாட்டி’ விடலாம்; தேவிபட்டணத்தில் கூட்டம் முடிந்து, ஊர் அமைதிக்குத் திரும்பியபின்னர் மீண்டும் பயணம் மேற்கொள்ளலாம்; வேறு வழியில்லை என்று அனைவரும் கருதினர்.

அந்த அனைவர் கருத்தும் எந்த ஒருவரின் அங்கீகாரத்தில்தான காரியமாகுமோ, அவர் ஏதும் சொல்லாமலே மோன சாந்த விக்ரஹமாக, ஆயினும் உத்ஸவ விக்ரஹமாக மேலே சென்று கொண்டேயிருந்தார்.

தற்செயலாகக் கிடைத்த தரிசனம் தாம் எதிர்பார்க்காத அமைதியையும், இன்பத்தையும் ஊட்டியதை அவருக்குத் தெரிந்த மொழிநடையில் உணர்ச்சியுடன் பெரியவாளிடம் தெரிவித்தார்.

“நம்ம ஊர்ல சாமி வந்து பூசை பண்றது பாக்கியங்க! எங்களைச் சேர்ந்தவங்களுக்கு சொல்றேங்க! என்ன பணியானாலும் செஞ்சு குடுப்பாங்க. சாமி நல்லா நம்ம ஊர்ல இருந்து, எங்களுக்கெல்லாம் அருளு பண்ணிட்டுப் போகணுங்க” என்று வேண்டிக் கொண்டார்.

“உங்க மனஸுப்படியே ஆகட்டும்!” என்று ஸ்ரீசரணர் நெகிழ்ந்து கூறி ஆசி வழங்கினார்.

ஒருபுறம் லீக் கூட்டம் அமைதியாகவே நடக்க, மறுபுறம் தேவியின்—காளி ரூபத்தில் அல்ல; ஸௌம்ய லலிதா ரூபத்திலேயே உள்ள தேவியின்——பூஜையும் கோலாஹலமாக நடந்தேறியது.

அன்னையன்பின் வடிவான அவதார அன்னைக்குச் செய்யும் பூஜை மணிக்கணக்கில் நீள்வதுண்டுதானே? அப்படித்தான் அன்றும் நடந்தது.

கூட்டம் முடிந்த பின்னும், பூஜை நடப்பதறிந்த மரைக்காயர் தம் முஸ்லீம் பரிவாரத்துடன் முகாமுக்கு வந்து, அவர்களோடு வெளியே காத்திருந்து, தாங்கள் கொண்டு வந்திருந்த ஏராளமான பழக்கூடைகள், பூக்கூடைகள், கட்டுக்கட்டாக ஊதுபத்தி, புட்டி புட்டியாக அத்தர், பன்னீர் முதலானவற்றை உள்ளே அனுப்பி வைத்தார்.

பூஜை முடிந்ததும் நேரே பெரியவாள் அவர்களுக்குத் தரிசனம் வழங்கத்தான் வந்தார். எப்போதுமே அன்னையன்புக்கு மூர்த்தமான அவரது திருவுருவம் இதுபோன்ற அன்னை வழிபாட்டிற்குப் பின்னோ முன்னிலும் அன்பு மெருகேறி ஜ்வலிப்பது வழக்கம். இன்றோ அந்த வழக்கத்திற்கும் அதிகமான அன்பொளி வீச வந்து நின்று, திருநயனத்தால் அதனை அவர்களுக்கு அள்ளித் தெளித்தார்.

அப்போதும், அன்னிய மதத்தினர், அன்று சில மணிகள் முன்பு கூட, என்ன அநியாயம் செய்வரோ என்று அஞ்ச வைத்தவர்கள், கனிந்த மனத்தோடு, கனியும் மலரும், மணமிகு மற்ற கையுறைகளும் கொண்டுவந்து கொட்டிப் பணிந்தவாறிருந்தனர

‘அன்னியோன்னியம்’ என்று ஒரு அழகான சொல். அன்னியம் என்பது அன்னியமாகிவிடும் ஆரன்பைக் காட்டும் சொல். அதற்கு அற்புதச் சான்றாயிருந்தது அந்த நிகழ்ச்சி.

“இத்தனை அன்பா நீங்க செய்யறதை நான் ஸந்தோஷமா ஏத்துக்கத்தான் வேணும். ஆனாலும் இவ்வளவு தாங்குமா’ன்னு இருக்கு!” என்று உள்ளத்திலிருந்து கூறினார் ஸ்ரீசரணர்.

“ஏங்க தாங்காம?” என்றார் மரைக்காயர், பரம பவ்யமாக. “ சாமியை செகத்து குரு—வுன்னு சொன்னாங்க. அப்ப எங்களுக்கும் குருதானுங்களே! நாங்க என்னதான் செய்யக் கூடாது?” என்றார் அந்த முஸ்லீம் அன்பர் !!

Message For the Day…” One”s Speech Should Be Soft and Sweet …”

You have immense potency within you. Like the light that illumines, your vision must be pure, sacred and pleasing. Do not taint or pollute the blessing of sight by looking at undesirable objects, or by looking with bad thoughts. A magnetic energy circulates in you. Although this energy is present throughout the body, its presence is conspicuous in the hand. Hence the hands should be employed for good purposes. They should never be used for harming others. The ears listen to gossip, slander and evil talk. The result is that the power of hearing gets polluted. Also the power of speech. This power finds expression in sound waves and it has to be used with great care. The words one utters should be examined to see that they do not excite, irritate or anger others. Bad words come back to the speaker with double strength. Hence one’s speech should be soft and sweet.
