Rules For a Good Old Age

Some of us have reached our golden years, and some of us have not. But these suggestions should be read by everyone. They have been collected from many a senior, each with his or her own piece of advice. Some you know, some may surprise you, and some will remind you of what’s important. So read well, share with your loved ones, and have a great day and a great life

1. It’s time to use the money you saved up. Use it and enjoy it. Don’t just keep it for those who may have no notion of the sacrifices you made to get it. Remember there is nothing more dangerous than a son or daughter-in-law with big ideas for your hard earned capital. Warning: This is also a bad time for an investment, even if it seems wonderful or fool-proof. They only bring problems and worries and this is a time for you to enjoy some peace and quiet.

2. Stop worrying about the financial situation of your children and grandchildren, and don’t feel bad spending your money on yourself. You’ve taken care of them for many years, and you’ve taught them what you could. You gave them an education, food, shelter and support. The responsibility is now theirs to earn their own money.

3. Keep a healthy life, without great physical effort. Do moderate exercise (like walking every day), eat well and get your sleep. It’s easy to become sick, and it gets harder to remain healthy. That is why you need to keep yourself in good shape and be aware of your medical and physical needs. Keep in touch with your doctor, get tested even when you’re feeling well. Stay informed.

4. Always buy the best, most beautiful items for your significant other. The key goal is to enjoy your money with your partner. One day one of you will miss the other, and the money will not provide any comfort then, enjoy it together.

5. Don’t stress over the little things. You’ve already overcome so much in your life. You have good memories and bad ones, but the important thing is the present. Don’t let the past drag you down and don’t let the future frighten you. Feel good in the now. Small issues will soon be forgotten

6. Regardless of age, always keep love alive. Love your partner, love life, love your family, love your neighbor and remember: “A man is not old as long as he has intelligence and affection.”

7. Be proud, both inside and out. Don’t stop going to your hair salon or barber, do your nails, go to the dermatologist and the dentist, keep your perfumes and creams well stocked. When you are well-maintained on the outside, it seeps in, making you feel proud and strong.

8. Don’t lose sight of fashion trends for your age, but keep your own sense of style. There’s nothing worse than an older person trying to wear the current fashion among youngsters. You’ve developed your own sense of what looks good on you – keep it and be proud of it. It’s part of who you are.

9. ALWAYS stay up-to-date. Read newspapers, watch the news. Go online and read what people are saying. Make sure you have an active email account and try to use some of those social networks. You’ll be surprised which old friends you’ll meet. Keeping in touch with what is going on and with the people you know is important at any age.

10. Respect the younger generation and their opinions. They may not have the same ideals as you, but they are the future, and will take the world in their direction. Give advice, not criticism, and try to remind them of yesterday’s wisdom that still applies today.

11. Never use the phrase: “In my time”. Your time is now. As long as you’re alive, you are part of this time. You may have been younger, but you are still you now, having fun and enjoying life.

12. Some people embrace their golden years, while others become bitter and surly. Life is too short to waste your days on the latter. Spend your time with positive, cheerful people, it’ll rub off on you and your days will seem that much better. Spending your time with bitter people will make you older and harder to be around.

13. Do not surrender to the temptation of living with your children or grandchildren (if you have a financial choice, that is). Sure, being surrounded by family sounds great, but we all need our privacy. They need theirs and you need yours. If you’ve lost your partner (our deepest condolences), then find a person to move in with you and help out. Even then, do so only if you feel you really need the help or do not want to live alone.

14. Don’t abandon your hobbies. If you don’t have any, make new ones. You can travel, hike, cook, read, dance. You can adopt a cat or a dog, grow a garden, play cards, checkers, chess, dominoes, golf. You can paint, volunteer at an NGO or just collect certain items. Find something you like and spend some real time having fun with it.

15. Even if you don’t feel like it, try to accept invitations. Baptisms, graduations, birthdays, weddings, conferences. Try to go. Get out of the house, meet people you haven’t seen in a while, experience something new (or something old). But don’t get upset when you’re not invited. Some events are limited by resources, and not everyone can be hosted. The important thing is to leave the house from time to time. Go to museums, go walk through a field. Get out there

16. Be a conversationalist. Talk less and listen more. Some people go on and on about the past, not caring if their listeners are really interested. That’s a great way of reducing their desire to speak with you. Listen first and answer questions, but don’t go off into long stories unless asked to. Speak in courteous tones and try not to complain or criticize too much unless you really need to. Try to accept situations as they are. Everyone is going through the same things, and people have a low tolerance for hearing complaints. Always find some good things to say as well.

17. Pain and discomfort go hand in hand with getting older. Try not to dwell on them but accept them as a part of the cycle of life we’re all going through. Try to minimize them in your mind. They are not who you are, they are something that life added to you. If they become your entire focus, you lose sight of the person you used to be.

18. If you’ve been offended by someone – forgive them. If you’ve offended someone – apologize. Don’t drag around resentment with you. It only serves to make you sad and bitter. It doesn’t matter who was right. Someone once said: “Holding a grudge is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die.” Don’t take that poison. Forgive, forget and move on with your life.

19. If you have a strong belief, savor it. But don’t waste your time trying to convince others. They will make their own choices no matter what you tell them, and it will only bring you frustration. Live your faith and set an example. Live true to your beliefs and let that memory sway them.

20. Laugh. Laugh A LOT. Laugh at everything. Remember, you are one of the lucky ones. You managed to have a life, a long one. Many never get to this age, never get to experience a full life. But you did. So what’s not to laugh about? Find the humor in your situation.

21. Take no notice of what others say about you and even less notice of what they might be thinking. They’ll do it anyway, and you should have pride in yourself and what you’ve achieved. Let them talk and don’t worry. They have no idea about your history, your memories and the life you’ve lived so far. There’s still much to be written, so get busy writing and don’t waste time thinking about what others might think. Now is the time to be at rest, at peace and as happy as you can be!

AND REMEMBER: “Life is too short to drink bad wine.“

” மஹா கணபதிக்கு நன்னா கண் திறந்தாச்சு …”

பல வருடங்களுக்கு முன் காஞ்சி மகா பெரியவர் தமிழகத்தின் தென்பகுதிகளில் யாத்திரை மேற்கொண்டிருந்த சந்தர்ப்பம்….. தஞ்சாவூர் ,திருச்சி, திருவானைக்காவல், ஸ்ரீரங்கம்,திண்டுக்கல், சோழவந்தான் ஆகிய ஊர்களுக்கு விஜயம் செய்துவிட்டு, மதுரையை நோக்கித் தன் பரிவாரங்களுடன் வந்துகொண்டிருந்தார். ஸ்வாமிகள் . வழி நெடுகிலும் உள்ள கிராம மக்கள் தங்கள் குழந்தை குட்டிகளுடன் திரளாக வந்து ஸ்வாமிகளை தரிசித்து ஆசிபெற்றுச் சென்றனர். அவர்களுக்கெல்லாம் இன்முகத்தோடு அருளாசி வழங்கினார். பழம், கல்கண்டு ஆகியவற்றைப் பிரசாதமாக கொடுத்துக்கொண்டே நடந்தார் ஸ்வாமிகள்.

மதுரை மாநகரை நெருங்கும் நேரம். அங்கிருந்த ஒரு கிராமத்து ஜனங்கள் அனைவரும் ஒன்றுகூடி “பூர்ணகும்ப” மரியாதையுடன் ஸ்வாமிகளை வரவேற்றார்கள்.அந்த ஜனங்களின் பக்தியையும் ஆர்வத்தையும் பார்த்த ஸ்வாமிகளுக்கு ஏக சந்தோஷம். சாலையோரம் இருந்த ஓர் அரசுமரத்து வேரில் வந்து அவராகவே அமர்ந்துகொண்டார் . அனைவரும் கீழே விழுந்து நமஸ்கரித்தனர்.

அந்த ஊர்ப் பஞ்சாயத்துத் தலைவர் மிகுந்த பக்தியுடன் ஸ்வாமிகளை நமஸ்கரித்தார் . பிறகு, “பெரியவங்ககிட்ட ஒண்ணு பிரார்த்திக்கிறோம் . நாங்க ஏழை சனங்கல்லாம் ஒண்ணா சேந்து, பக்கத்துல ஒரு புள்ளயார் கோயிலை புதுசா கட்டி முடிச்சிருக்கோம். சாமி பாதம் அங்க படணும்னு வேண்டிக்கிறோம்….கருண பண்ணணும்!” என்று கன்னத்தில் போட்டுக்கொண்டார்.

குதூகலத்தோடு எழுந்த ஆச்சார்யாள், “கோயில் எங்கே இருக்கு?” என வினவினார்.

பஞ்சாயத்துத் தலைவர், “இதோ கூப்பிடு தூரத்திலதான் சாமி இருக்கு.வந்து அருள் பண்ணணும்!” என்றார்.

ஸ்வாமிகள் மிக வேகமாக பிள்ளையார் கோயிலை நோக்கி நடந்தார். மேளதாள -பூரணகும்ப மரியாதையுடன் ஆச்சார்யாள் கோயிலுக்குள் பிரவேசித்தார் . கர்ப்பக்கிருகத்துள் ஆறடி உயர சிலா ரூபமாக விநாயகர் வீற்றிருந்தார். விக்கிரகம் கம்பீரமாக பளிச்சென்று
இருந்தது . வைத்த கண் வாங்காமல் சற்று நேரம் விநாயகரையே பார்த்த பெரியவா,பஞ்சாயத்துத் தலைவரிடம், “கோயிலுக்கு கும்பாபிஷேகம் ஆயிடுத்தோ?” என்று கேட்டார்.

” இன்னும் ஆகலீங்க சாமி” என்றார் தலைவர்.

” அதான் எல்லாமே பூர்த்தியாகி இருக்கே…ஏன் இன்னும் கும்பாபிஷேகம் நடத்தலே?” என்று கேட்டார் ஸ்வாமிகள்.

பஞ்சாயத்துத் தலைவர் பவ்வியமாக பதில் சொன்னார்.; “எல்லாமே பூர்த்தி ஆயிடுச்சு சாமி. இன்னும் ஒரு மாசத்துக்குள்ளாற மகாத்மா காந்தி இந்த வழியா மதுரைக்கு வாராறாம்.அவுரு வர்றன்னிக்கு , ‘அவருக்கு முன்னால வெச்சே கும்பாபிஷேகத்த நடத்த ஏற்பாடு பண்ணித் தர்றோம்’னு மதுரையைச் சேர்ந்த சில பெரிய மனுஷங்க உறுதி கொடுத்திருக்காங்க! அதனாலதான் காந்தீஜீக்காகக் காத்துக்கிட்ருக்கோம்!”

ஆச்சார்யாள் தனக்குள் சிரித்துக்கொண்டார். இரண்டு நிமிஷம் கண்ணிமைக்காமல் விநாயகரையே பார்த்துவிட்டுச் சொன்னார்.

” அதுக்கு அவசியம் இருக்காது போலத் தோண்றதே! கணபதி கண்ணத் திறந்து நன்னா பாத்துண்ருக்காரே…இனிமே கும்பாபிஷேகத்த தாமசப்படுத்தப்படாது. ஒடனேயே நல்ல நாள் பார்த்து பண்ணிடுங்கோ.”

உடனே பஞ்சாயத்துத் தலைவர், “இல்லீங்க சாமி! கண் தொறக்கிற சடங்கு விநாயகருக்கு இன்னும் நடக்கலீங்க சாமி! நீங்க இப்படி சொல்றத பாத்தா ஒண்ணும் புரியலீங்களே..” என்று குழம்பினார்.

ஸ்வாமிகள் மீண்டும் சிரித்துக்கொண்டே, “இது நானா சொல்லலே! கணபதி கண்ணைத் திறந்து நன்னா “ஸ்பஷ்டமா” பார்த்துண்ருக்கார். சீக்கிரமே கும்பாபிஷேகத்துக்கு வேண்டிய ஏற்பாடுகள் பண்ணுங்கோ! காந்தி வந்தா நன்னா தரிசனம் பண்ணிட்டுப் போகட்டுமே” என்று கூறினார் . குழுமியிருந்த ஜனங்களுக்கு ஒன்றும் புரியவில்லை. அமைதியோடு காத்திருந்தனர்.

பஞ்சாயத்துத் தலைவருக்கும் குழப்பம் தீரவில்லை. உடனே ஆளனுப்பி விநாயகர் சிலையை வடிவமைத்த ஸ்தபதியை வரவழைத்தனர் .அவரிடம் ஆச்சார்யாள் சொன்ன விஷயம் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டது .

சிற்பியும் அடித்துச் சொன்னார்; “இல்லீங்க ஸ்வாமி..இன்னும் விநாயகருக்கு கண் தொறக்கலீங்க. தொறந்தா விக்கிரகத்தச் செதுக்கின நான்தானே தொறக்கணும்..இன்னும் அது ஆவுலீங்க..” மூன்று தடவை ஆச்சார்யாள் காலில் விழுந்து கை கட்டி நின்றார் சிற்பி.

மீண்டும் ஒருமுறை விக்கிரகத்தையே உற்று நோக்கிய ஸ்வாமிகள் “மகா கணபதிக்கு நன்னா கண் தெறந்தாச்சு! அவர் சந்தோஷமா பாத்துண்டிருக்கார் . இனிமேலும் தாமதிக்கிறது நல்லதில்லே. சீக்கிரமா ஒரு நல்ல நாள் பாத்து கும்பாபிஷேகத்த நடத்துங்கோ..
க்ஷேமம் உண்டாகும்” என்று சொல்லிவிட்டு வேகவேகமாகப் புறப்பட்டுவிட்டார் ஆச்சார்யாள். பரிவாரம் பின்தொடர்ந்தது. ஆச்சார்யாளை அந்த ஊர் எல்லை வரை சென்று வழி அனுப்பி வைத்துவிட்டுத் திரும்பினர்,அத்தனை பேரும்.

சற்று நேரத்துக்கெல்லாம் அந்த ஊர் கிராமப் பஞ்சாயத்து சபை’ கூடியது . ஆச்சார்யாள் கூறிவிட்டுப் போன விஷயம் குறித்து அலசி ஆராயப்பட்டது. விநாயகர் விக்கிரகத்தைச் செதுக்கிய சற்று வயதான ஸ்தபதி அடித்துச் சொன்னார். “ஆச்சார்ய ஸ்வாமிங்களுக்கு ஞான திருஷ்டில எல்லா விஷயங்களும் தெரிஞ்சுடும்.இருந்தாலும் எங்கையால் நான் இன்னும் கண்ண தொறக்கலே.சாமி எப்டி சொல்றாங்கனு தெரியலே .நானும்கூட விக்கிரகத்துகிட்ட போயி உன்னிப்பா கவனிச்சுப் பாத்துட்டேன்.அப்டி ஆனதா தெரியலீங்க…. இப்ப என்ன பண்றது?”

அங்கே மௌனம் நிலவியது. ஒருவரும் வாய் திறக்கவில்லை. திடீரென்று பன்னிரண்டு வயது மதிக்கத்தக்க உள்ளூர்ப் பையன் ஒருவன் அந்த இடத்துக்கு ஓடி வந்தான்.கை கட்டி நின்றான்.

அவனைப் பார்த்த தலைவர், “தம்பி! ஏன் இப்படி ஓடி வர்றே? என்ன விஷயம்?” என்று கேட்டார்.

உடனே அந்தப் பையன் “தலைவரே! கோயில் விநாயகர் சிலை பத்தி எனக்கு ஒரு விஷயம் தெரியும்..சொல்லலாங்களா?” என்று கேட்டான் பவ்யமாக.

” ஒனக்கு என்ன தெரியும்..சொல்லு தம்பி!” என்று மிக ஆர்வம் காட்டினார் தலைவர். கூட்டமும் அந்தப் பையனையே பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தது.

பையன் பேச ஆரம்பித்தான்; “ஐயா தலைவரே! எனக்கு தெரிஞ்ச உண்மையை சத்தியமா சொல்றேங்க. அந்த சாமியார் சாமி [ஆச்சார்யாள்] ‘புள்ளையாருக்கு கண் தொறந்தாச்சு’னு சொல்லிட்டுப் போனது மெய்தாங்க! எப்படீன்னா ஒரு பத்து நாளுக்கு முந்தி ஒரு நாள் உச்சி வெயில் நேரமுங்க.இதோ ஒக்காந்துருக்காரே ..புள்ளையார் விக்கிரகத்தைச் செஞ்ச தாத்தா.. இவரோட பேரப் பையன்..என் சிநேகிதன். என்ன வேலை பண்ணான் தெரியுமா? இவங்க தாத்தா சிலைகளின் கண்ண தொறக்கறத்துக்கு வெச்சிருக்கிற சின்ன உளியையும்,சுத்தியையும் எடுத்துக்கிட்டு ,எங்களையும் கூட்டிக்கிட்டு கோயிலுக்குப் போனான்.

” இதோ பாருங்கடா! எங்க தாத்தா இப்புடித்தான் சிலைங்க கண்ணைத் தொறப்பாருன் ‘ன்னு சொல்லிகிட்டே,’புள்ளையாரே,கண்ணத்தொற… புள்ளையாரே ,கண்ணத் தொற!’னு அவனும் சொல்லி, எங்களையும் ஒரக்க சொல்லச் சொல்லி, “டொக்கு..டொக்குனு” உளிய புள்ளயாரின் ரண்டு கண்ணுலயும் வச்சு தட்டினான்..”புள்ளையாருக்கு கண் தொறந்தாச்சு “னு எல்லாப் பசங்களும் குதிச்சு ஆடினோம்.இந்த விஷயம் ஊர்ல ஒருத்தவங்களுக்கும் தெரியாது. நாங்களும் வெளியிலே மூச்சு வுடலே! இது தாங்க நடந்துச்சு….எங்களை மன்னிச்சுருங்க.”

பிரமிப்போடு அமர்ந்திருந்தது கூட்டம். பஞ்சாயத்துத் தலைவர் கண்களில் நீர் சுரந்தது.ஆச்சார்யாளின் மகிமையைப் பார்த்து அந்த ஊரே வியப்பில் ஆழ்ந்தது . சிற்பியின் பேரனுக்கு எட்டு வயதிருக்கும். பஞ்சாயத்து அந்தச் சிறுவனை அழைத்து விசாரித்தது. விநாயகருக்கு, தான் கண்களைத் திறந்துவிட்டதை ஒப்புக் கொண்டான். எல்லோரும் கோயிலுக்கு ஓடிச் சென்று விநாயகரை விழுந்து வணங்கினர். சிற்பி, ஒரு பூதக் கண்ணாடியின் உதவியோடு கணபதியின் கண்களை நன்கு பரிசீலித்தார். மிக அழகாக “நேத்ரோன் மீலனம்” [கண் திறப்பு] செய்யப்பட்டிருந்ததைப் பார்த்து ஆச்சர்யப்பட்டார்.

ஊரே திரண்டு ஆச்சார்யாள் சென்ற திசையை நோக்கி ஓடியது. அடுத்த கிராமத்தில் சாலை ஓரமிருந்த ஒரு பெரிய ஆலமர நிழலில் பரிவாரங்களுடன் இளைப்பாறிக்கொண்டு இருந்தார் ஸ்வாமிகள். அனைவரும் ஓடிப் போய் ஸ்வாமிகள் காலில் விழுந்து எழுந்தனர்.
அந்தப் பஞ்சாயத்துத் தலைவரும்,சிற்பியும் கேவிக்கேவி அழ ஆரம்பித்துவிட்டனர்.

இவர்களைப் பார்த்த அந்த பரப்பிரம்மம் சிரித்துக்கொண்டே கேட்டது; “புள்ளையாருக்குக் கண் தெறந்தாச்சுங்கறத பிரத்தியட்சமா தெரிஞ்சுண்டுட்டேளோல்லியோ ? போங்கோ….போய் சீக்கிரமா கும்பாபிஷேகத்த நடத்தி முடியுங்கோ. அந்த பிராந்தியத்துக்கே க்ஷேமம் உண்டாகும்.”

சிரித்தபடியே கை தூக்கி ஆசிர்வதித்தது அந்த நடமாடும் தெய்வம்.

” A Monkey Could do My Job…” !!!

The Fascinating Story of Jack the Signal”man”

For most people, saying “a monkey could do my job” is a roundabout way of saying that their current position of employment isn’t exactly that mentally taxing. For James Wide though, it was more of a statement of fact because for 9 years in the late 19th century, his job of railroad signalman at Uitenhage station in South Africa was literally done by a chacma baboon called Jack.

Jack came to prominence thanks to a tragic event in 1877 when his eventual owner, James Wide, lost both of his legs in a horrific accident. Prior to the accident, Wide had worked for Cape Government Railways as a guard. During his tenure as a railway guard, Wide developed a knack for jumping between and onto moving trains, which earned him the wholly unimaginative nickname, “Jumper”.

If you’re thinking that Wide’s habit of jumping between moving trains had something to do with him eventually losing both of his legs, you’re absolutely correct. After mis-timing a jump between two trains, Wide landed on the tracks and was unable to move in time to stop the 80 ton car from crushing his shins and feet. The damage was so extensive that Wide’s legs had to be amputated at the knees, leaving him crippled and of little use to the company.

Not to be dissuaded, after recovering from his injuries, Wide carved himself a pair of peg legs and begged his superiors at the railway company to give him a job. Wide’s pleas didn’t fall on deaf ears and he was given the job of signalman, which basically put him in charge of conveying information to conductors via the various signals placed on the tracks, among other similar duties. Although the job required little physically strenuous activity, since all of the signals were controlled by a series of levers that Wide could reach from a chair, he still had troubled getting to and from work. To help with this, the ever industrious Wide made himself a trolley that he could sit on.

Even with the trolley, getting to work was still a hugely tiring endeavour for Wide and for a while, he struggled with this task until, according to a July of 1890 edition of the science journal, Nature, Wide spotted the fuzzy solution to all of his problems- a baboon leading an oxen cart at his local market in 1881. A curious Wide struck up a conversation with the animal’s owner and learned that along with being trained to obey a few simple commands, the baboon, who was called “Jack”, was sufficiently strong enough to push and pull relatively heavy loads.

Upon learning this, Wide asked the owner if he’d be willing to part with the animal so that he could train it to push him to and from work. The owner, perhaps moved by Wide’s condition or maybe Wide just offered a price he couldn’t refuse, for whatever reason agreed to give up ownership of Jack. Again according to Nature, before the two men parted ways, the owner explained to Wide that he should give Jack a “tot of good Cape brandy” every night if he wanted him to work, as without it, the baboon would spend the next day sulking and would even become disobedient.This is similar to the famous circus elephant, Jumbo, who would reportedly get very annoyed if his trainer forgot to give him a bottle of beer before he went to sleep).

Initially Wide simply trained Jack to push his trolley (which had been designed by Wide to fit on train tracks) along the half mile section of track between his house and the signal box he worked in. It wasn’t long though before Wide realised that Jack was a lot smarter than he’d assumed and could be trained for other tasks. For example, one of Wide’s duties involved grabbing a key to the coal store from a locked box and delivering it to train drivers when they tooted their whistles four times. After only a few days of working together, Jack picked up on this and soon began grabbing the key before Wide could whenever he heard the appropriate number of whistles and delivered it himself.

With a bit of training, Jack also learned to operate the levers in the signal box that controlled which section of track a train would travel on as it passed by, similarly picking up on the audio cues given by drivers. While the system itself wasn’t that complicated, consisting of a few levers that controlled certain pieces of track that would be pulled in a certain order based on whether a driver tooted one, two or three times, and is something you could probably train a dog to do with the right setup, Jack had something dogs don’t have- opposable thumbs, which made him a bit more useful with the equipment at hand.

Jack soon became a familiar figure at the signal hut and drivers didn’t take long to become accustomed to the unusual sight of a disabled man and a baboon working in tandem whenever they passed through Uitenhage station. As you can imagine though, some passengers weren’t exactly enthused with the idea of their lives literally being in the hands of a baboon, and after one particular member of the public caught sight of Jack in the signal hut, a complaint was filed and the pair were unceremoniously fired.

Wide appealed to the company to reconsider their decision, arguing that Jack actually knew what he was doing. After several more workers stepped forward to argue that, in their experience, Jack was doing a pretty decent job prior to being fired , the company begrudgingly agreed to give the baboon a test.

Wanting to make sure Jack could handle even the most complicated of scenarios, the test was structured such that they played a series of rapidly changing whistles at Jack after placing him in front of a set of levers with the same layout as those in the signal hut. Jack passed this test without making a single mistake and he and Wide were given their jobs back.

Since Jack was now an official employee of the company, instead of just a pet Wide brought to work, Nature reported he was given a salary of 20 cents per day (about $5 today), daily rations and a beer on Saturdays.

Hiring Jack proved to be a smart move for the company since not only did they get a tourist attraction that brought people from all over to ride their trains to see the baboon, but they also got a fiercely loyal guard with imposing baboon arms to chase away vandals and trespassers. Besides signal operator and occasional guard, during his time with the company, Jack was also reportedly trained to clean, move railway sleepers, garden and was officially put in charge of the keys to the coal yard.

Unfortunately, Jack met and untimely end when he contracted and died from consumption in 1890 (see: Why Tuberculosis was Called Consumption), which interestingly enough “Old World” monkeys like Jack are highly susceptible to, unlike “New World” monkeys. In total, Jack worked for the railway company for about nine years before his death.

1941—ஆம் ஆண்டு சாதுர்மாஸ்யத்தின் போது ஸ்ரீசரணாள் நாகப்பட்டினத்தில் முகாமிட்டிருந்தார். அதனிடையில் ஆடிப்பூரம் வந்தது. வழக்கமாக அப்போது நீலாயதாக்ஷி அம்பாளுக்கு மிகவும் விமரிசையா உத்ஸவம் நடக்கும். ஆனால் அவ்வாண்டு? ஊர் மழை கண்டு எத்தனையோ காலமாகியிருந்த சமயம். சொல்லி முடியா தண்ணீர்ப் பஞ்சம். குளம், குட்டை, கிணறு யாவும் வறண்டு கிடந்தன.

எனவே உத்ஸவத்துக்கு யாத்ரீகர்கள் வரவேண்டாமென்றே அறிக்கை விடுவதற்குக் கோவிலதிகாரிகள் எண்ணினர். எனினும் அதற்கு முன் தங்கள் ஊரில் எழுந்தருளியுள்ள மஹானிடம் விண்ணப்பிக்க நினைத்து ஸ்ரீமட முகாமுக்கு ஒருநாள் காலை வேளையில் வந்தனர்.

அவர்கள் குறையிரந்ததை சோகம் என்றே கூறக்கூடிய ஆழுணர்ச்சியுடன் அருள்மூர்த்தி கேட்டுக் கொண்டார். வாய் திறந்து ஏதும் சொல்லவில்லை. சொல்ல அவசியமில்லாமல் அடியோடு முடி அவரது திருவுருவே இரக்கத்தின் உருக்கமாக இருந்தது. மௌனமாகவே பிரசாதம் ஸாதித்து அவர்களை அனுப்பிவிட்டு ஏகாந்தத்திற்குச் சென்று விட்டார்.

அரைமணி ஆனபின் ஆலயத் திருக்குளத்திற்குச் சென்றார். குளமாகவா அது இருந்தது? தள்ளித் தள்ளிச் சில இடங்களில் குளம்படி நீர் தேங்கியிருந்தது தவிர மற்ற இடமெல்லாம் காய்ந்த பூமியாகவோ, சேறாகவோதான் இருந்தது.

தேடித் தேடி ஒரு சிறிய குழியில் தமது சின்னஞ்சிறு ஸ்ரீ சரணங்களை ஸ்ரீசரணர் அழுத்த, சீரார் சேவடி அமிழும் அளவுக்கு—அந்த அளவுக்கே— நீர் சுரந்தது.

ஆச்சரியமாக, தனது அப்பாத நீரையே அவர் சிரஸில் புரோக்ஷித்துக்கொண்டார்!

முகாமுக்குத் திரும்பினார் முனிவர்.

அன்று பகலெல்லாம் கடும் வெயில் காய்ந்தது.

மறுநாள் மதியம் மறுபடி திருக்குளத்திற்குச் சென்றார்..

முன்தினம் கண்ட குளம்படித் தேங்கல்களும்கூட சேறாகவோ, காய்ந்த கட்டி மண்ணாகவேயோ சுவறிக்கிடந்தன!

இன்று திவ்ய ஹஸ்தத்தாலேயே அவற்றிலொரு சேற்றுத்திட்டைச் சுரண்டினார். ஒரு சில துளிகள் நீர் சுரந்தது.

வலப்பாதப் பெருவிரலை அதில் ஐயன் அமிழ்த்த அது போதும் போதாததாக முழுகியது..

திருவிரல் நீரில் நனைந்திருக்க, நனைந்த திருவுள்ளத்தோடு ஐயன் ஆகாயத்தை நிமிர்ந்து நோக்கினார்.

ஈரப்பசையே இல்லாத வெண்மேகங்கள் ஆங்காங்கு மூடியிருந்தாலும் பெரும்பாலும் தெள்ளிய ஒளி நீலமாகவே வானம் விளங்கியது.___கருணா சோக ( கருண ரஸம் என்பதே சோகந்தானே!) மேகம் மூடியுங்கூட, மூடவொண்ணா அகண்ட அமைதி வெளியாக!.

தண்டத்தை இறுகப் பிடித்தவாறே, வானை நோக்கி இரு கரங்களையும் தூக்கி அஞ்சலி செய்தார்.

அருளும் அமைதியும் இனம் பிரிக்க முடியாமல் செறிந்திருந்த மௌனத்துடன் மட முகாமுக்குத் திரும்பினார்.

பிற்பகல் நான்கு மணியளவில் ஈரமற்ற வெண்முகில்கள் குளிர் நீலமாக மாறத்தொடங்கின. வெப்பத்தைச் சமனம் செய்யும் சீதக் காற்றும் மெல்ல வீசலாயிற்று.

சிறிது பொழுதில் சிறு தூறல்கள் சிதறலாயின.

அப்புறம் அது அடர்ந்து அடர்ந்து அப்படியே அடைமழையாகப் பொழியலாயிற்று!

இரவெல்லாம் பொழிந்தது.

மறுனாள் முழுதும் பொழிந்தது.

அதற்கு மறுநாளும்,ஏன், நான்காம் நாளும்கூட விடாமல் பொழிந்தது.

நிமலனின் அருள் வேண்டுதல் வடிவில் தூண்ட, நீலாயதாக்ஷி நீலவானையே கண்களாகக்கொண்டு கருணா கடாக்ஷப் பெருக்காகப் பொழிந்து தீர்த்தாள்!

நந்தம்மை ஆளுடையாள்
தன்னிற் பிரிவிலா எங்கோமான் அன்பர்க்கு
முன்னி அவள் நமக்கு முன்சுரக்கும் இன்னருளே
என்னப் பொழியாய் மழையே!

என்ற வாதவூரார் வாசகம் மெய்யாயிற்று.

குளம், குட்டை, கிணறு எல்லாம் முட்ட முட்ட நிரம்பின.
ஊர் குளிர, ஊரார் உளம் குளிர உத்ஸவமும் வழக்கத்தைவிட விமரிசையாக நடந்தேறியது. வாடிய நெஞ்சங்களுக்கு வான் கருணை வழங்கிய உத்ஸாகத் தளிர்ப்பே உத்ஸவ விமரிசை வழக்கத்தைவிடக் கூடியதற்குக் காரணம்.

ஆயினும் கண்ணன் போலத் தெய்வீக மகிமையை வெளிக்காட்டாது ஸ்ரீராமனைப் போல் மானுடமாகவே எளிமை காட்டியவரன்றோ நம் பரம குருநாதன்? அதனால்தான் ஸ்ரீ சரண மஹிமையை மறைத்துக் கரங்களை எளிமையில் குவித்து வானை நோக்கி அஞ்சலி செய்தே மழை வருவித்ததாகக் காட்டினார்

I suppose physically this exercise is very good; I liked it even more for its psychological effects on me. The slightly comic position increased my good humour and made me a little more tolerant of life’s vagaries.”

நெரூர் சதாசிவப் பிரும்மேந்திரர் அதிஷ்டானத்துக்கு, தரிசனத்துக்காகச் சென்றிருந்தார்கள், பெரியவாள்.

சதாசிவப் பிரும்மேந்திரரிடம், பெரியவாளுக்கு இருந்த பக்திக்கும், மரியாதைக்கும் எல்லையே காண முடியாது. பிரும்மேந்திரர் பெயரைச் சொன்னாலும், கேட்டாலும், உருகிப் போய்விடுவார்கள், பெரியவாள்.

அதிஷ்டானத்தில்,ஜபம் செய்வதற்கு உட்கார்ந்து விட்டார்கள், பெரியவாள். அதிஷ்டான அன்பர்களும், பெரியவாளுக்குக் கைங்கரியம் செய்யும் பணியாளர்களும், சற்றுத் தொலைவுக்குப் போய் நின்று கொண்டார்கள்.

பெரியவாள், அதிஷ்டானங்களுக்குள் சென்று ஜபம் செய்வதையோ, சந்யாஸ முறைப்படி வணங்குவதையோ யாரும் பார்க்கக்கூடாது என்பது,ஸ்ரீமடத்து சம்பிரதாயம். மானுட எல்லைகளுக்கு அப்பால் சென்று, தெய்வீகத்தின் நுழைவாயிலில் நிற்கும் அபூர்வ தருணங்கள், அவை.

இந்தக் கட்டுப்பாடு, பக்தர்களின் நலனை முன்னிட்டுத் தான் கடைப்பிடிக்கப்பட்டு வந்தது. நூறு வாட்ஸ் மின்விளக்கையே பார்த்துப் பழகிய கண்கள் எதிரில், லட்சம் வாட்ஸ் மின் ஒளியைப் பாய்ச்சினால், எப்படித் தாங்கமுடியும்? அந்தச் சமயம் பார்த்து வெகு அவசரமாக வந்தார். ஓர் அன்பர் – ரங்கசாமி. “பெரியவாளை உடனே தரிசனம் பண்ணனும். பிரசாதம் வாங்கிக்கொண்டு உடனே புறப்படணும்”. என்று, மனம் திறந்து தொண்டர்களிடம் முறையிட்டார்.

“சுவாமி, பெரியவாள், கதவை சார்த்திக்கொண்டு அதிஷ்டானத்துக்குள் ஜபம் செய்து கொண்டிருக்கா, இப்போ யாரும் அவாளைத் தரிசிக்க முடியாது. தியானம் கலைந்து பெரியவாள் தானாகவே வெளியே வந்தவுடன் முதன் முதலாக நீங்கள் தரிசனம் செய்து கொள்ளலாம்.”

வந்தவர், இலேசுபட்டவர் அல்லர்; ரொம்பவும் அமுக்கமான பேர்வழி!.

தொண்டர்களின் பேச்சைக் கேட்டு சமாதானம் அடைந்துவிட்டாற்போல, பாவனை செய்து கொண்டிருந்தார்.

தொண்டர்களின் சுதந்திரமான வாய்வீச்சு, அடக்குவாரின்றி வெள்ளமாக ஓடிக்கொண்டிருந்தது. பேச்சு வெள்ளத்தில் மூழ்கித் திளைத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள் அவர்கள். கண்ணிமைக்கும் பொழுதில், புதிதாக வந்த அன்பர் ரங்கசாமி அதிஷ்டானத்தின் கதவுகளைத் திறந்து கொண்டு, உள்ளே சென்றுவிட்டார்!

இந்தத் தடாலடித் திட்டத்தை யாரும் எதிர்பார்க்காததால் எல்லோரும் குழம்பிப் போய் நின்றார்கள்.

அந்த நேரத்தில் அதிஷ்டானத்திலிருந்து பெரியவாளின் குரல், அதுவரையில் சிஷ்யர்கள் கேட்டறியாத ஒரு கம்பீரத்வனியில் தெளிவாகக் கேட்டது.

“நீங்கள் ம்ருத்யுஞ்ஜய ஜப-ஹோமம் செய்ய வேண்டாம். உங்கள் வீட்டுக்கு ம்ருத்யு வரமாட்டான்;திரும்பிப் போங்கள்” அன்பர் ரங்கசாமி கதவை மூடிவிட்டு, சட்டென்று வெளியே வந்தார். அணுக்கத் தொண்டர்கள் அவரை மொய்த்துக்கொண்டு விட்டார்கள். ரங்கசாமி ஒரு கதையே சொன்னார்.

அவருடைய நெருங்கிய உறவினருக்கு, திடீரென்று நெஞ்சுவலி. பரிசோதனை செய்த டாக்டர்கள், “நாற்பத்தெட்டு மணி நேரம் போனால்தான்,உறுதியாக சொல்ல முடியும்” என்று சொல்லி விட்டார்கள். ஜோசியர், “உடனே ம்ருத்யுஞ்ஜய ஹோமம் செய்யுங்கள்” என்றார். உடனே போய், பெரியவாளிடம் தெரிவித்துப் பிரசாதம் வாங்கிக் கொண்டு வந்தால் நல்லது என்று ஒருவர் ஆலோசனை; வயதான மூதாட்டி ஒருவர், “பெரியவா, இதோ பக்கத்திலே, நெரூர்லே தானே இருக்கார். அவாகிட்ட சொல்லிவிடுங்கோ,அவா பார்த்துப்பா” என்று சொன்னதை எல்லோரும் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார்கள். அதன்படி தான், அன்பர் ரங்கசாமி அவ்வளவு அவசரப்பட்டிருக்கிறார்.

அவருடைய அதிர்ஷ்டம் தெய்வமே அவருக்கு அருள்வாக்குக் கூறிவிட்டது!

ரங்கசாமி வீட்டுக்குள் நுழைந்தபோது அந்த நோயாளி உறவினர், படுக்கையில் உட்கார்ந்து புன்முறுவலித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.

“ஆமாம், இன்னும் ஒரு நூறாண்டு அவருக்கு காரண்டி”!

Nek Chand, the creator of the Rock Garden, died aged 90 at Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). He breathed his last at 12.11am on Friday…..12 June 2015.

He is known across the world for creating the iconic Rock Garden that is twenty five acres of several thousand sculptures made of recycled material set in large mosaic courtyards linked by walled paths and deep gorges, combining a series of interlinking waterfalls.

Here are few things that you must know about this artistic wonder and its brilliant creator:

1.The creator belonged to Shakargarh region (now in Pakistan) of Gurdaspur district.
2.In the early 1960s, Chand began to clear a little patch in a forest near Sukhna Lake to make himself a small garden. He set stones around the little clearing and before long sculpted a few figures recycled from discarded and recyclable materials he found at hand.

3.A road inspector by day, he worked at night for fear of being discovered by the authorities but when he was found out, they decided to give him a salary and a workforce of 50 labourers to help him fulfil his dream.

4.The garden was inaugurated as a public space in 1976, bringing him immediate recognition.

5.The Rock Garden is now acknowledged as one of the modern wonders of the world and receives over 5,000 visitors each day.

” பல்லவ கடிகாரம் பார்த்திருக்கியா …” ?

டாக்டர் தியாக. சத்தியமூர்த்தி, தமிழகத்தின் தலைசிறந்த தொல்லியல் ஆய்வாளர்களுள் ஒருவர். தமிழ்நாடு, கேரளம், கர்நாடகம், குஜராத், டெல்லி, ராஜஸ்தானம் என இந்தியாவின் பல பகுதிகளில் தொல்லியல் ஆய்வுகளை நிகழ்த்தியவர். இந்தியத் தொல்பொருள் கள ஆய்வுத் துறை மூலம் இவர் ஆற்றிய பணிகள் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கன. தமிழகத்தில் ஆதிச்சநல்லூர், மகாபலிபுரம் போன்ற இடங்களில் இவர் செய்த ஆய்வுகள் முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்தவை.

சிறு வயதிலிருந்தே அவரை தரிசித்திருக்கிறேன். தொல்லியலாளரான பின்னர் அவரைப் பார்க்கப் போனபோது, “நீ என்ன வேலை பார்க்கிறாய்?” என்று கேட்டார். அப்போது கோவில்கள் திட்டப்பணியில் தொல்லியல் துறையில் செய்யும் பணிபற்றிச் சொன்னேன். “நீ மகாபலிபுரம் போயிருக்கிறாயா? அங்கு என்ன பார்த்தாய்?” என்று கேட்டார். நான் பஞ்சபாண்டவர் ரதம், மகிஷாசுரமர்த்தினி என்றெல்லாம் சொன்னேன்.

“அங்கு பல்லவர்களுடைய கடிகாரம் ஒன்று இருக்கிறதே, அதைப் பார்த்திருக்கிறாயா?” என்று கேட்டார். ஏதோ விளையாட்டுக்குச் சொல்கிறார் என்று நினைத்து, “பல்லவா காலத்தில் ஏது பெரியவா கடிகாரம்?” என்று கேட்டேன். “இருக்கு. இருக்கு. நீ அடுத்தவாட்டி போறப்போ நல்லா பார்த்துட்டு வா!” என்றார்.

மறுமுறை போனபோது, “கடிகாரம் பார்த்தாயா?” என்று கேட்டார். “இல்லை பெரியவா, எனக்குத் தெரியவில்லை” என்றேன். “அர்ஜுனன் தவம் பார்த்தியா?” என்று கேட்டார். “பார்த்தேன்” என்றேன். “அந்த அர்ஜுனன் தபஸ் சிற்பத்திற்குக் கீழே நதி ஒன்று ஓடிக் கொண்டிருக்கும். சின்ன விஷ்ணு கோயில் ஒன்று இருக்கும். பக்கத்தில் ரிஷி ஒருவர் உட்காந்து கொண்டிருப்பார். கீழே அமர்ந்து சிலர் வேதம் சொல்லிக் கொண்டிருப்பார்கள். ஒருவர் ஆற்றில் நனைத்த துணியைப் பிழிந்து கொண்டிருப்பார். மற்றொருவர் நின்று கொண்டு மாத்யான்னிஹ வந்தனை செய்து கொண்டிருப்பார். (அதில் ஒருவர் இரண்டு கைகளையும் கோர்த்து விரலிடுக்கால் உச்சியிலிருக்கும் சூரியனைப் பார்க்கிறார்) பனிரெண்டு மணிக்கு இந்த விஷயம் நடந்தது என்பதைச் சிற்பி தெரிவிக்கிறார். அதைத்தான் ‘பல்லவ கடிகாரம்‘ என்று சொன்னேன்” என்று பெரியவர் சொன்னார்.

தேனம்பாக்கம் பக்கத்தில் வெள்ளிக்குளம் என்று

ஒன்று இருக்கு. அங்கு ஒரு நாயுடு அம்மா

இருந்தார்கள்.அவர்கள் நெற்றியில் நாமம்

போட்டுக் கொள்வார்கள். அவர் தினமும்

ஸ்ரீ மகாபெரியவாளை நமஸ்காரம் செய்ய வருவார்.

ஸ்ரீமகாபெரியவாளிடம் ரொம்ப பக்தி. ஒரு நாள்

அவர் என்னை (பாலு) தன் வீட்டிற்கு வரும்படி

அழைத்தார்.நான் வரவில்லை என்றேன். இதை

ஸ்ரீ மகா பெரியவா பார்த்துக் கொண்டே இருந்தார்.

என்னிடம் “ஏன் அவள் வீட்டிற்கு போனால் என்ன?

உன்னை கூப்பிடறா” என்றார்.இல்லை, பெரியவா

சொன்னா சென்று வருகிறேன் என்றேன்.

‘போய்ட்டு வா’ என்றார்.

அந்த அம்மா தன் வீட்டிற்கு அழைத்துச் சென்றார்.

என்னை ஒரு பெஞ்சில் உட்கார சொல்லிவிட்டு வீட்டை

சாணம் போட்டு மெழுகி கோலம் போட்டு ஒரு பலகாயை

கொண்டு வந்து வைத்தார்.பலகாயிலும் கோலம் போட்டு

வைத்து விட்டு ஸ்ரீ பகவானே,குருநாதா என்று சொல்லிக்

கொண்டு பால்,தயிர்,நெய்,வெண்ணெய் இவற்றை கொண்டு

வந்து பலகாயின் பக்கத்தில் வைத்தார்.வீட்டில் பூத்த

பூக்களை கொண்டு வந்து பலகாய் மேல் போட்டு பின் அதில்

பால்,தயிர்,நெய், வெண்ணெய் கிண்ணங்களை வைத்தார்.

மெதுவாக நமஸ்காரம் செய்தார்.ஒரு ஐந்து நிமிடம் சென்றது.

பிறகு என்னிடம் ‘சாமி ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளை பார்த்தீகளா?’ என்றார்.

இல்லையேம்மா என்றேன்.

;ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா வந்து சாப்பிட்டார்’ என்றார்.

பின் கிண்ணங்களை பார்த்தால் எல்லா கிண்ணங்களும் காலியாகஇருந்தது
. ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா அந்த அம்மாளுக்கு காட்சி கொடுத்திருக்கா
.எனக்கு காட்சி கொடுக்கவில்லை

திரும்பி மடம் வந்தேன்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா, ‘என்ன அவாத்துக்கு போயிட்டு வந்தாயா? என்றார்.
போயிட்டு வந்தேன்.பார்த்தேன் என்றேன்.

“சரி இதை யாரிடமும் சொல்ல வேண்டாம் என்றார்.

பாலு பொய் சொல்கிறான் என்ற பேச்சு வரும்.

வீணாக விஷயம் பரவும், வேண்டாம் என்றார்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா தெய்வம்.

” பூனையாலே வந்தது …பூனையாலே போனது …” !!!

எனது பாட்டி எனக்கு அறிவித்த ஒரு அதிசய சம்பவத்தை உங்களிடம் பகிர்ந்து கொள்கிறேன்.

ஒருசமயம், காஞ்சிப் பெரியவர் பக்தர்களுக்கு ஆசி வழங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.

பக்தர்கள் நீண்ட வரிசையில் காத்திருந்தனர்.

கூட்டத்தில் வந்த இளம் தம்பதியரின் கையில் ஒரு ஆண்குழந்தை இருந்தது. கொழு கொழுவென இருந்த குழந்தையை பெரியவரின் காலடியில் கிடத்தி விட்டு, அழத் தொடங்கினர்.

“”தங்க விக்ரகம் போல இருக்கும் அந்த குழந்தையின் உடம்பில் எந்த வித அசைவும் இல்லை. மலர் போன்ற அதன் கண்களில் பார்வையும் இல்லை” என்பதை அறிந்ததும் அனுதாபத்தில் ஆழ்ந்தனர்.

உற்றுப் பார்த்த பெரியவர், “அப்படியே தான் இருக்கு இன்னும் கொறயலையே” என்று மட்டும் சொல்லி விட்டு, சில நிமிடம் மவுனம் காத்தார். பெரியவர் என்ன சொல்கிறார் என்பது அப்போது யாருக்கும் புரியவில்லை. பின் மடத்து ஊழியரை அழைத்து, பாலும், நந்தியாவட்டைப் பூவும் கொண்டு வரும் படி பணித்தார். பூவினைப் பாலில் தோய்த்து குழந்தையின் தலை, கண்கள், வயிறு, பாதம் ஆகியவற்றில் தடவி விட்டு, கண்களை மூடி பிரார்த்தித்தார்.

பெற்றோரிடம், “”கொழந்தைய.. .. மாயவரம் (மயிலாடுதுறை) மாயூரநாதர்கோயிலுக்கு தூக்கிண்டு போயி தட்சிணாமூர்த்தி பாதத்தில படுக்கப் போடுங்கோ…. இப்பவே கிளம்புங்கோ…” என்று சொல்லி அனுப்பி வைத்தார்

அந்த தம்பதியும் மயிலாடுதுறை புறப்பட்டனர்.

அவர்கள் வரும் முன்பே, மாயூரநாதர் கோயிலில் கூட்டம் சேர ஆரம்பித்தது. உணர்ச்சியற்ற அந்த குழந்தையைப் பற்றித் தான் ஒரே பேச்சாக இருந்தது.

குழந்தையுடன் வந்த பெற்றோர், மாயூரநாதர் கோயிலில் விநாயகரை தரிசித்து விட்டு, பிரகாரத்தில் இருக்கும் தட்சிணாமூர்த்தி சந்நிதி முன், குழந்தையைப் படுக்க வைத்து வழிபட்டனர். ஒரு மணி நேரம் ஆன பின்பும், குழந்தையிடம் ஒரு அசைவும் தென்படவில்லை. மக்கள் சலசலக்க ஆரம்பித்தனர்

சிலர், அந்த பெற்றோரின் தெய்வ நம்பிக்கையை குறைக்கும் முயற்சியிலும் ஈடுபட்டனர்.

அப்போது, திடீரென ஒரு வெள்ளை பூனைக்குட்டி கூட்டத்திற்கு நடுவில் ஓடி வந்தது. குழந்தையின் அருகில் நெருங்கியது. பூனையால் ஆபத்து நேர்ந்திடாமல் தாய் கவனித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார். யாரும் எதிர்பாராத விதத்தில், பூனை குழந்தையின் நெற்றியை நாவால் நக்கியது. தலை முதல் பாதம் வரை முகர்ந்து விட்டு ஓடி விட்டது.

பிறந்ததில் இருந்து அசையாத அக்குழந்தை, தட்சிணாமூர்த்தி சந்நிதியை நோக்கி திரும்பிப் படுத்தது. அதன் இதழில் புன்னகை அரும்பியது.

“க்ளுக்’ என்ற மழலை ஒலியும் எழுந்தது. இதைக் கண்ட பெற்றோர், “ஹரஹர சங்கர ஜெயஜெய சங்கர’ என்றபடி குழந்தையை தூக்கினர். அவர்களைப் பார்த்துச் சிரித்தது.

இந்த அற்புதம் கண்டவர்கள் காஞ்சி மகானின் தெய்வீக தன்மையைக் கண்டு வியந்தனர்.

முற்பிறவியில் பூனையைக் கொன்றவர்களுக்கு, பூனை சாபத்தால் புத்திரபாக்கியம் இல்லாமல் போவது அல்லது ஊனமான குழந்தை பிறப்பது போன்ற தோஷம் உண்டாகும் என்கிறது சாஸ்திரம்.

அதே பூனை இனத்தைக் கொண்டே, இந்த குழந்தையின் தோஷத்தைப் போக்கி, தலைவிதியை மாற்றி அமைத்த பெரியவரின் மகிமையை என்னவென்பது?
