Solar Power Station in Sky …. ?

What science fiction writer Isaac Asimov wrote in his 1941 short story “Reason” speculating space stations to transmit energy to Earth using microwave beams may become a reality soon, if Chinese scientists have their way to build ambitious solar-power generating station somewhere up in the sky.

Wang Xiji, a scientist who had spent 50 years on the concept at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and an International Academy of Astronautics member, says Asimov’s fiction is possible and revealed that China is planning to ahead with the idea.

The huge solar power station to be built 36,000 kilometres above the ground will not only solve the energy crisis on the earth but also save the planet from the vagaries of greenhouse gases and pollution, says an upbeat Wang, whose dream concept is gaining currency of late.

The enormity of the project is, however, too huge surpassing the known mega-projects like the US Apollo project or the US-Russian joint project — the International Space Station. So huge that it may look like a super spacecraft on a geosynchronous orbit with its solar panels extending more than 6 kilometres in length each.

The solar panels will store the energy which will be converted to microwaves or lasers and transmitted to a collector on Earth, explain scientists.

Wang, 93, who is a veteran in the concept told Xinhua: “An economically viable space power station would be really huge, with the total area of the solar panels reaching 5 to 6 sq km. Maybe people on Earth could see it in the sky at night, like a star.”

Moreover, space-based solar panels produce ten times as much electricity as ground-based panels produce per unit area, says Duan Baoyan, another member of the team at the Chinese Academy. “If we have space solar power technology, hopefully we could solve the energy crisis on Earth,” Duan said.

But there is more than that. Mere solar energy and cheaper energy is not the focus but it can change the strategic power balance on Earth. Wang reiterates that the first inventor of the technology “could occupy the future energy market. So it’s of great strategic significance.”

In the past, Japan and the US did explore the possibility and dropped the idea due to enormity of the project that enhances energy production by just 10 times. Japan has already made lead in the development of wireless power transmission technology.

Secondly, the weight of such space power station would be anywhere in the range of 10,000 tons and you need not just a rocket launcher but an asteroid to carry it to space. So, the question is whether China is willing to undertake the challenge.

“We need a cheap heavy-lift launch vehicle,” says Wang. “We also need to make very thin and light solar panels. The weight of the panel must be less than 200 grams per square metre.”

On the positive note, Wang says: “When space solar energy becomes our main energy, people will no longer worry about smog or the greenhouse effect.”

The eye and mind describe and analyze things as they are, as they see at that moment. However the objects they see are subject to constant flux and change. We have the least awareness about the truth that doesn’t change. That unchanging principle is Brahman, the Eternal Divine Principle, on which the manifest Universe is based. Do not hesitate to accept this fact or doubt it just because your eye or mind cannot perceive it. A person who sees the dry stump of a tree at night is afraid that it may be a ghost or a bizarre human being. It is neither, though it is perceived as either. The reason for this misperception is ‘darkness’. Darkness imposes on something, something else that is not there. Similarly false perception (maya) veils and renders Divine (Brahman) as unreal.

ஏப்ரல் 1ம் தேதியை முட்டாள்களின் தினமாக ஏன் அழைக்கிறோம்? கூகுளில் மேய்ந்தபோது, முட்டாள்களின் தினம் ஏன், எப்படி வந்தது? என்று தெரிய வந்தது.

அக்காலத்தில் ஒருவரின் தொப்பி அல்லது உடையில், ஏதாவது ஒரு கோணங்கித்தனம் செய்து விட்டு, அவர்களின் முதுகுக்குப்பின் அவர்களைப் பரிகசிக்கும் பழக்கம் இருந்தது. மனிதனுக்கு எப்போதுமே பிறரை ஏமாற்றப் பிடிக்கும், நையாண்டி செய்யப் பிடிக்கும், சின்ன சேட்டைகள் செய்யும் பழக்கம் பள்ளிப் பிள்ளைகளிடம் இருந்தது. சட்டையில், ‘இங்க்’ தெளிப்பர்; உருளைக்கிழங்கில், ‘ஏப்ரல் பூல்’ என்று செதுக்கி அதன் மீது, ‘இங்க’கை நிரப்பி நண்பனின் சட்டையில் அடிப்பர். பெரியவர்கள் நம்மிடம் கவலைப்படும்படியான ஏதாவது செய்தியைக் கூறி நம்மை நம்ப வைத்து பின், ‘ஏப்ரல் பூல்’ என்பர்.நாம் கண நிமிடம் ஏமாந்து போவதில் அவர்களுக்கு அத்தனை சந்தோஷம். நாம் ஏமாறாவிட்டால் அவர்கள் ஏமாந்து போவர். இவ்வாறு ஒருவரை மற்றவர் சீண்டவும், கிண்டலடிக்கவும் அப்போது நேரம் இருந்தது. ஆனால், இன்றோ அதற்கெல்லாம் நமக்கு ஏது நேரம்? அவரவர் ஓட்டம் அவரவர்க்கு. அவரவர் கவலையும், தேடலும் முட்டாள்கள் தினம் தான்.பலரும் நம்மை பல விஷயங்களில் தினம் தினம் முட்டாள்களாக்கிக் கொண்டு தானே இருக்கின்றனர்? நம் படிப்பறிவும், பட்டறிவும் நமக்கு உதவுவது இல்லை .காரணம், நம் பேராசை.

முட்டாள்தனமாக எல்லாரையும் நம்பி ஏமாந்து போய் விட்டு, பின், ‘விதி’ மீது பழி போடுகிறோம்; ‘கடவுள் கைவிட்டு விட்டார்’ என்று புலம்புகிறோம். தற்கொலை செய்து கொள்ளும் முடிவையும் எடுக்கிறோம்.இன்றைய உலகில், யாரிடமும் உண்மை இல்லை. பொருள் சார்ந்த வாழ்க்கையில் ஒருவரிடமும் நம்பகத்தன்மை இல்லை. தான் வாழ, தன் சந்ததி மட்டுமே வாழ மனசாட்சியை அடகு வைத்து விட்டனர். பணத்திற்கு முன் சுற்றமும், நட்பும் முக்கியமா என்ன? சுயநலத்திற்கு உள்ளார்ந்த உறவும் கிடையாது, ஆத்மார்த்த நட்பும் கிடையாது. விவரம் தெரியாமல் ஏமாறுவோரை மன்னிக்கலாம்; அவர்களுக்காக பரிதாபப்படலாம். ஆனால், கண்ணைத் திறந்து கொண்டே போய் பாழுங்கிணற்றில் விழுவோருக்காக
அனுதாபப்படத் தேவையில்லை.

சீட்டுப் பிடிப்பவர்களும், நிதி நிறுவனம் நடத்துவோரும் மக்களின் பணத்தை சுருட்டிக் கொண்டு ஓடும் கதை அனைவருக்கும் தெரிந்தது தான். இத்தொழிலில் இருக்கும் நேர்மையானோர் வெகு சிலரே. ஆனாலும், மக்கள் ஏமாறுகின்றனரே? கோழியில் முதலீடு செய்தால் கோடிகளை அள்ளலாம் என்று பேராசைப்பட்டு பணத்தை கோட்டை விட்டனரே. அவர்களிடம் பணத்தை முதலீடு செய்து விட்டு, அவர்கள் பட்டை நாமம் சார்த்த, தன் பரந்த நெற்றியையும் காட்டுவோர் முட்டாள்கள் அல்லாமல் வேறு யார்? எத்தனை பட்டாலும் நம் மக்கள் திருந்துவது இல்லை.ஏமாற வேண்டும் என்று கங்கணம் கட்டிக் கொண்டு களத்தில் இறங்குவோரை கண்டால் நமக்கு கோபமும், எரிச்சலும் தான் வருகிறது. மக்களை எத்திப் பிழைப்போருக்கு மூளையும் அதிகம். முதியோர் உதவித்தொகை கொடுக்கின்றனர் என்று கூறி மூதாட்டிகளை அழைத்துச் செல்கின்றனர். ‘வசதியாக இருப்பதாகத் தெரிந்தால் பணம் கிடைக்காது; எனவே, நகையை கழற்றி பையில் வைத்துக் கொள்’ என்று அறிவுரை கூறுவது போல பேசி அவர்களின் நகையைக் களவாடுகின்றனர்.

அதேபோல, ‘சட்டையில் காக்கை எச்சம்’ என்றும், ‘கீழே பணம் கிடக்கிறது’ என்றும் கூறி, நம் கவனத்தை திசை திருப்பி பணப்பையை கவர்ந்து கொண்டு ஓடி விடுகின்றனர். தினம் தினம் இதுபோன்ற செய்திகளைப் படிக்கிறோம். இப்படி ஏமாறுவோர் எப்போதும் முட்டாள்களே!தங்கள் தலைவனுக்காகத் தீக்
குளிக்கும் அடிமட்டத் தொண்டன், அரசியல்வாதிகளின் மறுபக்கத்தை அறியாத அப்பாவித் தொண்டன். கட்சிக்காக தன் உறவையும் நட்பையும் பகைத்துக் கொள்ளும் தொண்டன், தேர்தல் நாளன்று வெட்டு, குத்து என்று களம் இறங்கும் தொண்டன்… இவர்களையெல்லாம் எந்தக் கணக்கில் எடுத்துக் கொள்ள?பெற்றோரின் பிள்ளைப்பாசம் அவர்களை எளிதில் முட்டாளாக்கி விடுகிறது. பையன் வலைதளத்தில் மேய்ந்து கொண்டிருப்பான். ஆனால், அவன் பெற்றோரோ தன் மகன் பெரிய கம்ப்யூட்டர் இன்ஜினியர் ஆவான்; சதா சர்வ நேரமும் கணினியே கதி என்று இருக்கிறான் என்று நினைத்துப் பூரித்துப் போகின்றனர். வாழ்க்கையைத் தொலைத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் இந்த இளம் குருத்துகள் முட்டாள்கள். இவர்கள் தங்களைத் தாங்களே ஏமாற்றிக் கொள்கின்றனர்.

தானாக நமக்கு ஒரு பிரச்னை வந்தால் அனுபவித்துத் தான் ஆக வேண்டும். வேறு வழியே இல்லை. ஆனால், வலிந்து போய் பிரச்னை யில் மாட்டிக் கொள்ள வேண்டுமா. பேராசை தான் கண்ணையும், அறிவையும் மறைக்கிறது. பிறர் சொத்துக்கு ஆசைப்பட வேண்டாம், குறுக்கு வழியில் தனம் தேட வேண்டாம். ஒருவரையும் சட்டென நம்பி விட வேண்டாம் என்ற பால பாடத்தைக் கற்க வேண்டும். நகையை பீரோவில் வைத்து விட்டுப் போவது, பின் திருடு போய் விட்டது என்று புலம்புவது. நம் தலையை நாமே வெட்டுக் கத்திக்கு அடியில் கொண்டு போய் வைக்கிறோம், அவ்வளவே. விழிப்புடன் இருந்தால் மட்டுமே இந்த உலகில் வாழ முடியும். நல்லவராக இருப்பதுடன் வல்லவராகவும் இருக்க வேண்டியது அவசியம். எனவே, ஏப்ரல் 1ம் தேதி மட்டுமே முட்டாள்களின் தினமாக இருந்து விட்டுப் போகட்டும். ஏனைய நாட்கள் அனைத்தும் அறிவாளிகளின் தினங்களாக விடியட்டும்.

” Dear Pilots of the Plane …Who are Taking Me Home…”

WE’RE in the midst of one of aviation’s darkest times.

We have been left shocked and heartbroken time after time again over the past year with a series of unimaginable flight tragedies, the latest seeing 150 people killed on board Germanwings Flight 9525.

So it’s to be expected that we’re all looking for answers, hoping to prevent another tragedy from happening in our skies. And as more and more harrowing information comes to light of the terrifying final moments on board the doomed Germanwings jet, many flyers are on edge at the thought of taking to the skies.

So imagine this pilot’s surprise when a passenger decided to share some kindness in a rather unexpected way.

The pilot, who is unnamed for security reasons, was handed a note from the passenger during a flight from Spain to the south of England on Monday.

Instead of being a complaint or criticism, the glowing note voiced appreciation for the incredible job pilots do, ultimately seeking to inject kindness into a shocked world.

The thrilled pilot shared the note with a colleague, Jai Dillon, who then posted it onto Twitter where it has already been shared thousands of times.

Dillon, a pilot based in the UK who has been flying commercially for the past three years, told news.com.au his co-worker wanted to share the letter that had touched his heart.

“They were incredible happy,” Dillon, 23, said. “I feel that the positive message is worth spreading.”

It’s a good reminder that thousands of pilots and crew get millions of people safely from point A to B every year. To you all, we say thank you.

Those who seek union with God and the welfare of the world should discard as worthless both praise and blame, appreciation and derision, prosperity and adversity. They should courageously keep steady faith in their own innate reality and dedicate themselves to spiritual uplift. No one, including a Maha-purusha (Avatar), can ever escape criticism and blame. But such people do not bend, but hold on to truth. Those who indulge in criticism or blame later wade through unbearable trouble and then realise the real nature of great ones and start to praise them. Their weakness and ignorance is the root-cause for such criticism. So, keep away from doubters and ignorant people and desist from discussing your beliefs with them.

The Strange History of April Fool’s Day…!!!

Have you ever stopped to think WHY you’re Saran Wrapping a toilet seat on April Fools’ Day?

Do you think the first time a man pranked his neighbor everyone reveled in the delight of it so much they decided to make a holiday out of it? Is that where April Fools’ Day came from?

Well, it’s as good a guess as any because the origins of this high jinx-filled holiday aren’t entirely

solidified. There are, however, some strong theories of how it came about.

The most popular theory of the holiday actually has Catholic origins: In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII replaced the widely used Julian calendar with the now currently instated Gregorian calendar. This moved the start of the year from April 1st to January 1st.

Those who were late to catch on or refused to acknowledge the change and still celebrated the New Year in April were mocked and teased (humans are the best!). In France, a common prank was throwing paper fish at the springtime New Year’s celebrators and calling them poisson d’avril, or April Fish, a term for a gullible person.

Other cultures and societies have springtime celebrations centering around foolishness and joviality. Hilaria was an ancient Roman celebration on the vernal equinox for Cybele, the mother of the gods. People would dress up in costumes and masks, imitating those in higher positions of power.

Sizdah Be-dar, which falls thirteen days after Nowruz, the Persian New Year, is an occasion where families gather outside for picnics and celebrate the return to ordinary life after the New Year. It’s a day where laughter is used to overpower the bad omens and thoughts for the upcoming year.

In Hinduism, Holi is the spring festival of colors where crowds welcome the warming weather and longer days by throwing colored dyes on each other. Covered in layers of powdered dyes, people were indistinguishable by class, caste, or gender.

As with many other traditions/holidays, like Santa Claus, Thanksgiving, or Halloween, there doesn’t seem to be one exact origin of April Fools’ Day, which might be for the best. Why do we need one excuse to be silly?

One of the History’s Best Hoaxes …World”s Longest Running Hoax!!!

Cottingley Fairies

This story deserves some kind of award for being the world’s longest-running hoax. This one started way back in 1917, perpetrated by two young girls, Elsie and Frances, aged 16 and 9. They took five photographs of themselves in the woods, but something weird happened when these images were developed: the girls were surrounded by fairies.

Right off the bat, the girls received support from a peculiar source – Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The Sherlock Holmes creator was a keen spiritualist and complete believer in fairies, so he immediately accepted the pictures as genuine despite skeptics pointing out that they were faked.

Interest in the pictures lasted for a few years, but eventually died down. By then, the two cousins grew up and went on with their lives. Every now an then, a newspaper would track one of the girls down and do a story on the once-famous Cottingley Fairies. The girls would again claim that the pictures are genuine and interest in the story is briefly rekindled.

By the 1970s new technology allowed careful analysis of the photographs, which had been completely dismissed as fakes. A closer look reveals a series of strings holding the fairies up. However, it wasn’t until 1983 that the girls confessed to the hoax, admitting that the fairies were nothing but cardboard cutouts from a children’s book.
