Peak Walk Bridge

A trip across the world’s first peak-to-peak suspension bridge is by no means for the faint of heart. Strung up to connect Glacier 3000 to the Scex Rouge, the Peak Walk by Tissot stands 9,800 feet above sea level. Located in the Swiss Alps, the 351 foot-long walkway gives visitors a view of 24 surrounding peaks, including the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc and Jungfrau mountains.

The Peak Walk bridge opened last week with a ceremony and press conference at Glacier 3000’s Restaurant Botta. And it was erected very quickly: construction began this past September. Yet the bridge’s chief engineer, Bernhard Seiler, ensured that the bridge was built to withstand the harsh winds and heavy snowfall that often frequent the area. Costing 1.8 million Swiss francs (around 1.87 million USD), Peak Walk by Tissot will remain open year-round, and is free for all visitors.

Surprisingly enough, Peak Walk bridge is only Switzerland’s second highest suspension bridge; the Titlis Cliff Walk suspension bridge, which is similarly located in the Swiss Alps, stands 10,000 feet above sea level. Suspension bridges without vertical suspenders (like the Peak Walk bridge) are often used in mountainous parts of the world due to their simple structure.

மார்கழியின் மஹிமை …மஹாபெரியவா சொன்னது …

December 29, 2014NatarajanLeave a comment

How This Hoax About Space, Fooled Over One Million Facebook Users …!!!

December 28, 2014NatarajanLeave a comment
Levitation floating drifting jump

If you’ve been paying attention on Facebook recently, you might have noticed a friend or two sharing a story about a phenomenon that would supposedly be happening in early January of 2015.

“Strange natural occurrences are happening in the world today. But nothing more magnificent than the one you will experience on January 4, 2015,” Daily Buzz Live’s story reads. “According to British astronomer Patrick Moore, at exactly 9:47 PST AM on January 4th, Pluto will pass directly behind Jupiter, in relation to Earth.”

The story, from Daily Buzz Live, stated that there would be a once-in-a-lifetime planetary alignment where Pluto would pass directly behind Jupiter, which would counteract Earth’s gravity for a short period of time, rendering everyone on the planet briefly weightless.

Sounds cool right? Sounds maybe a bit unbelievable?

If you saw this story and were sceptical, you had every right to be: it’s just not true.

The Daily Dot did a really great job at debunking this hoax that was shared over one million times on Facebook.

“If planetary alignments ever caused worldwide weightlessness, they would likely have heard about it more than a few weeks before the next one. They would likely have read about in their high-school science textbooks,” Aaron Sankin of The Daily Dot writes.

The Daily Dot continues,

Anyone who did a simple Google search for the Jovian-Plutonian Gravitational Effect would have found its Wikipedia page and learned from its first sentence that this particular scam has been repeated ad nauseam for four decades.

Wikipedia

The story is fake, and Daily Buzz Live often posts fake stories, much like The Onion. But the difference is that The Onion is 100% satirical, while Daily Buzz Live publishes real stories alongside its fake stories.

“On Daily Buzz Live, meanwhile, the real and the unreal are intermingled, with no labels separating them. The planetary alignment story sits next to stories about factual events like “8 Photos Of Shocking Police Brutality On Peaceful Protesters and Civilians” and “Horrific Racist Song About Michael Brown At Charity Event ‘And He’s Dead, Dead, Michael Brown’“” The Daily Dot reports. “These are pieces that wouldn’t be out of place on real viral news sites.”

Meanwhile back on Facebook, the story is getting hundreds of thousands of shares, complete with this photo of what looks like a tweet from NASA.

Daily Buzz Live

The tweet, like the story, is fake and was created on a site called LemmeTweetThatForYou.com, says The Daily Dot.

So what happens to a publication when its satirical story, in an attempt to be passed off as real, ends up going massively viral on the world’s largest social network?

The answer is, absolutely nothing. But before you share a story that seems too good, or too bizarre to be true, it’s best to make sure that it actually is.

An AirAsia plane went missing during a flight to Singapore shortly after asking to deviate from its planned flight path because of bad weather.

AirAsia flight QZ 8501 lost contact with air traffic control at about 6:17 a.m. on Sunday, about halfway through the flight from Surabaya, Indonesia to Singapore. The plane is thought to have crashed near the Indonesian island of Belitung, but search and rescue teams have yet to find any wreckage.

Satellite imagery from the area where the plane went missing showed severe thunderstorms around the time it disappeared:

CNN meteorologist Derek Van Dam said “lines of very heavy thunderstorms” were present when the plane was in the air, but also pointed out that “turbulence doesn’t necessarily bring down aeroplanes.”

The search and rescue operation has been suspended overnight. Singapore’s air force and navy is helping with the operation to locate the plane.

Here’s where it lost contact with air traffic control:

AirAsia plane map

155 Indonesians are on board the plane, along with three people from South Korea, and one from Singapare, Britain, Malaysia, and France. Of those passengers, 16 are children and one is an infant.

The missing plane is an Airbus A320-200, a popular and generally reliable model. The plane is about six years old and is operated by AirAsia’s Indonesian affiliate, which the Malaysia-based company holds a 48.9% stake in, CNN reports

” One Banana … Keep your Stress Away … ” !!!

December 26, 2014Natarajan1 Comment

14 Foods that Can Replace Medicines ….

Whenever we start feeling ill, the first thing we do is reach for the medicine cabinet. The problem with taking pills is that even though they’ll probably help with your predicament, they’re also bound to have unwanted side effects. The best solution is to use these 14 natural remedies, which are just as efficient as drugs.

1. Bananas – Stress and anxiety

Next time you feel stressed, grab a banana! With an average of 105 calories and 14 grams of sugar, a banana will boost your blood-sugar levels and help combat hunger. Additionally, a banana contains 30% of your daily requirement of Vitamin B6, which helps your brain in the production of serotonin – a chemical that helps reduce stress.

14 Foods
2. Yogurt – Constipation and gas

One and a half cups of yogurt are packed full of probiotics that assist in digestion and improves the stomach’s ability to digest dairy and legumes – a major cause of gastric gasses.

3. Raisins – High blood pressure

A large handful of resins (approx. 60) contains over 200mg of potassium, as well as 1 gram of fiber. These are strongly recommended as part of a diet to help reduce blood pressure. Recent studies show that the polyphenols in grapes, raisins and wine, help maintain the circulatory system and reduce blood pressure.

14 Foods

4. Apricots – Kidney stones

4 dried apricots contain 2 grams of fiber, 235mg of potassium and just 3mg of sodium. This combination is highly effective at preventing minerals from getting trapped in your kidneys, which is the cause of the most common kidney stones.

5. Tuna – Foul mood

A can of tuna contains about 800mg of Omega-3, a fatty acid that is considered vital in the treatment of depression. Omega 3 is even an approved treatment for depression by the American Psychiatric Association.

14 Foods

6. Ginger tea – Nausea

A time-old proven treatment for nausea, ginger has also been scientifically proven to be helpful in dealing with nausea caused by motion sickness as well as morning sickness. It is as effective as anti-nausea medicine, but without the side effects (such as ‘cottonmouth’ and lethargy)

7. Basil – Indigestion

Studies suggest that the eugenol in basil is highly effective as a gastric painkiller, nausea reduction, cramping and diarrhea by eliminating bacteria like Salmonella and Listeria. Basil is also effective at preventing halitosis.

8. Pears – High cholesterol

The average pear contains 5 grams of the dietary fiber Pectin, which helps clear the body of ‘bad cholesterol’ (LDL).

9. Cabbage – Stomach ulcers

In a research published by the John Hopkins Medical School, it was found that the sulforaphane in cabbage helps battle the helicobacter pylori bacteria (a main cause for ulcers). It is believed that sulforaphane may also help prevent gastric tumors.

14 Foods

10. Figs – Hemorrhoids

Dried figs are rich in dietary fiber, which in turn, produce softer feces and aiding in reducing hemorrhoids and the likeliness of developing them.

11. Potatoes – Headaches

Amedium-sized potato contains 37 carbohydrates, which help reduce headaches by increasing serotonin production in the brain.

12. Garlic – Yeast infectionGarlic contains many essential oils that help prevent the development of yeast infections.

14 Foods

13. Chamomile tea – Heartburn

A great treatment for gastric inflammation, cramping, heartburn and gas, is mixing 2 teaspoons of chamomile tea in a cup of boiling water and brewing it for about 20 minutes and then drinking it.

14. Orange juice – Lethargy

The fructose in orange juice is a natural and fast-working stimulant, and research has proven the ability of Vitamin C to reduce damage caused by free radicals and provide the body with energy. Vitamin C is also a key factor in maintaining iron levels in our blood, which keeps it oxygenated.

Message For the Day….” The Qualities One Must Develop for a Direct Vision of God …”

December 26, 2014NatarajanLeave a comment

Embodiments of Divine Love! Adhere sincerely to your faith and traditions. Wherever you may be, do not give room for religious or any kind of differences. When we examine the root cause for differences or conflicts, you will find that the real reason is selfish minds, wearing the garb of religion or any other cause, and inciting conflicts amongst the people. If you desire to secure genuine peace in the world, you must hold morality (neethi) as superior to your community (jaathi). Cherish good feelings as more important than religious beliefs. Mutual regard (mamatha), equal mindedness(samatha) and forbearance (Kshamatha) are the basic qualities necessary for every human being. Only the person with these three qualities can be regarded as a true man. Hence all of you must cultivate these three sacred qualities assiduously. Using these qualities, give up all kinds of differences. Then love will develop in you. When love grows, you will have a direct vision of God.

Message For the Day…” Love is GOD… Live in Love … “

December 25, 2014NatarajanLeave a comment

Two thousand years ago, when narrow pride and thick ignorance defiled mankind, Jesus came as the Embodiment of Love and Compassion and lived among people, holding forth the highest ideals of life. You must pay attention to the lessons He elaborated in the various stages of His life. His first declaration was, “I am the messenger of God”. Yes, each individual has to accept that role and live as examples of divine love and charity. Jesus knew that God wills all. So even when He was on the cross, though He suffered agony, He bore no ill-will towards anyone and infact exhorted those with Him to treat all as instruments of His Will. “All are one; be alike to everyone” – Practise this attitude in your daily lives. Moon can be seen only through the moonlight. So too God, who is love, can be seen and realised only through love. Love is God, Live in Love. This is the Message I give you

Holiday Lights on the Sun: Imagery of a Solar Flare

The sun emitted a significant solar flare, peaking at 7:28 p.m. EST on Dec. 19, 2014. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, which watches the sun constantly, captured an image of the event. Solar flares are powerful bursts of radiation. Harmful radiation from a flare cannot pass through Earth’s atmosphere to physically affect humans on the ground, however — when intense enough — they can disturb the atmosphere in the layer where GPS and communications signals travel. This flare is classified as an X1.8-class flare. X-class denotes the most intense flares, while the number provides more information about its strength. An X2 is twice as intense as an X1, an X3 is three times as intense, etc.

America to Australia in 6 Hours !!!

December 23, 2014NatarajanLeave a comment

From America to Australia in Under 6 Hours

Just 100 years ago, getting from America to Europe was a voyage that took several days by ocean liners. With the invention of airplanes, that travel time was significantly shortened to under 24 hours. At the apex of the era of transatlantic flight, the Concorde was able to fly 100 passengers at mach 2.0 speeds from New York to London in just over 3.5 hours.

Now, the European Space Agency (ESA) just greenlighted the next stage of modern transportation – the hypersonic flight. The ESA has approved a new round of funding to project LAPCAT (Long-Term Advanced Propulsion Concepts and Technologies).
Hypersonic Plane

Ignoring its funny name, the new plane will fly at mach 5.0 speeds (that’s five times the speed of sound!), using liquid hydrogen engines. The planes will be able to travel from England to Australia in four hours, carry 300 passengers and even fly to space in just 15 minutes.

The new kind of engine is being developed by the British company Reaction Engines, who is said to invest over 60 million GBP in the development, and are going to start builing a full-scale prototype engine.

Hypersonic Plane

Current jet engines require that airplanes carry liquid oxygen as a coolant because in speeds beyond mach 3.0 the engines cannot use external oxygen for cooling. The new type of engine can use external oxygen freely, allowing it to cool down its engines from over 1,000°c (1,832°f) to -150°c (-328°f) in a fraction of a second.
Hypersonic Plane

Experts are hailing this development as the biggest advancement in aviation since the invention of the jet engine. The cost of a single plane is estimated to be a whopping $1.1 Billion and will have no windows.

Hypersonic passenger plane LAPCAT A2 explainer

The Long-term Advanced Propulsion Concept and Technologies (LAPCAT) was developed by British company Reaction Engines Limited (REL) and funded by the European Space Agency (ESA). The 139-meter long hypersonic plane has four liquid hydrogen-powered Synergistic Air-Breathing Rocket Engine (SABRE) engines and can carry up to 300 passengers.
It can travel up to 6,100 kilometer per hour – five times faster than the Airbus A380. By using liquid hydrogen as fuel instead of fossil fuel it is also greener and would only produce water vapor and nitrous oxide instead of carbon emissions.
