WHO would have thought that the ground your plane roars along during takeoff could be so spectacular from afar?

At first glance, these images look like artworks adorned with striking patterns. But they are actually airport runways around the world, captured by US designer Lauren O’Neil using Google Earth.

From Barcelona to Washington, O’Neil’s photographs offer a new perspective on runways, which are places usually perceived as quite mundane.

“I’ve found even the most humdrum cities or outdated terminals can have beautiful compositions from bird’s-eye,” O’Neil said. “Even Cleveland rocks!”

The intriguing series of images have been posted to O’Neil’s Tumblr page, calledHolding Pattern.

Joke of the Day…” Can we send Ours …” ?

For his entire working life, a dedicated and hardworking Astrophysicist tried in all earnest to find the existence of other being somewhere in the universe. After 58 years of constant effort, he finally receives a response from a planet 30 billion light years away.

“What is your planet like?” groaned the extraterrestrial from the other side of the Galaxy.

“It is 12,756 Kilometers in diameter, is 93,000,000 miles from the nearest star, our sun, has an average temperature of 72 degrees F. We breathe oxygen, live about 75 years, and have both men and women” answered the Physicist.

“Do the you get along with the women on your planet?” the extraterrestrial asked slowly.

Puzzled by the question, but not wanting to insult the female Physicists near by, he answered “Why yes. We get along quite well here.”

The extraterrestrial perked up “Can we send you ours?”

Innocence of This Kid will make you Smile and Smile !!!

Viral: Little Boy Goes to Pick Up Pizza, Wins the Internet Instead

Courtesy: Imgur

Kids can do the simplest of things and win your heart. Here’s one such kid whose innocence will make you smile from ear to ear.

A Reddit user posted the image above. He explained how a 6-year-old went to buy pizza at a Domino’s outlet where his sister works. When it was time to pay for the food, the little boy tried to use his father’s credit card. As you can see, the kid in his innocence signed the word ‘dad’ on the receipt.

Jewel Cowart, the cashier at the pizza joint was completely overwhelmed with the boys act. She clicked a picture of the receipt and showed it to her brother who in turn posted it online. Not surprisingly, the picture and its adorableness went viral.

“He simply thought he was signing for his father,” Cowart told a website.

And if you’re wondering whether the kid’s parents knew about this, Cowart mentions that the child was in fact accompanied by his father.

This is a cuteness overload, we say

Message Given by HH Mahaperiavaa on 15 AUGUST 1947…

MESSAGE GIVEN BY HIS HOLINESS PUJYASHRI CHANDRASEKHARENDRA SARASWATHI MAHASWAMIJI on 15 AUGUST 1947 – Independence Day ]

On this happy occasion when our country Bharat has attained Independence, the people of this ancient country must pray whole heartedly and with one mind to Sri Bhagavan. Let us all pray to God to vouch safe to us strength of mind and energy to engage ourselves more and more in attaining spiritual knowledge. It is only by the grace of Almighty that we can safeguard the freedom that we have achieved and also help all the living beings on earth to lead a happy life.

It is worthy to note that luckily the Chakra of Bhagavan, who is the embodiment of Dharma, has its place in the centre of our National Flag. This Chakra reminds us of the moral values enjoined by Emperor Ashoka, who is historically famous as Devanampriyaha. Further, the Chakra makes us contemplate on the spiritual discipline imparted by Bhagavan Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita. That Dharma which shines in the form of a Chakra is clear from Lord Krishna’s reference to the Chakra as “Evam pravartitam chakram” in Verse 16 of the III chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. Also in Verses 14 and 15 of the same chapter Bhagavan avers that ” The human body originates from food, food grains grow because of rains, rain showers because of performance of Yajnas(Vedic Sacrifices), these Yajnas are prescribed in the Veda and that the Veda has emanated from Brahman who is in the form of Akshara(Sound recorded as letter of the alphabet)”. Thus, the Dharma Chakra explains to us that the supreme Brahman is manifest in Vedic sacrifices. May this Independence, dawning with the rightful remembrance of Emperor Ashoka, grant us such fruits as Aram(Dharma or Righteousness) Porul(Wealth), Inbam(Happiness) and Veedu(Moksha – deliverance), by the grace of God.

There are three stripes in our National Flag. They are of dark green, white and orange colours. These colours seem to indicate to us, that military strength for protection from enemies and evil, wealth for welfare and prosperity, and knowledge for the sake of proper administration are essential for the nation. It may be remembered that dark green is the colour of Durga – the Parasakti who is the mother protector, Mahalakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity is of orange colour(golden hue) and Saraswathi the source divine of all knowledge is white in colour. It is a happy coincidence that the colour of the three Shakthis(Goddesses of Power) are seen in the three stripes of the National Flag.

For long, the Indian Nation has strived hard for winning freedom. By the grace of God, by the blessings of great men, and by the unique sacrifice of the people, independence has been won. Let us all pray to the Omnipresent God to shower his grace so that with the hard won freedom, our country becomes prosperous, is rid of famine, and there are no social skirmishes and the entire nation lives in an atmosphere of amity and kindness.

Now that freedom has been attained by the nation, all of us must also try to develop Independence. If we understand ourselves fully we may consider ourselves as independent. We are not capable of controlling the senses. We are unable to suppress desire and control anger, which always troubles us. Whichever thing in whatever measure we obtain does not lead us to contentment. Worldly sufferings cause worry to us. The mind gets confused on noticing these sufferings. What is the way out of all these? we must try to control, albeit gradually the mind which has been functioning vigorously for such a long time. Once the mind is set at rest, we will not be in need of anything. That state of mind which ensures complete freedom is what we must attempt to achieve.

Every day atleast some time should be set APART for practising the control of mind and bereft of other thoughts, we must meditate upon God. Then gradually, the mind will become calm, whereupon we will have the mental power to subjugate desire and anger. Spiritual knowledge will accrue fast for him who practises such meditation. Only these who attain such true spiritual knowledge can truly be independent citizens.

Any woman other than one’s wife must be respected as one’s own mother. We must regard other living beings as we would regard ourselves. Even at the risk of death, truth alone must be spoken. Petty social feuds must be averted totally, Every one must strive for improving his knowledge and his spiritual attainments and move with others in an atmosphere of kindness. We must sincerely wish that all people should live happily and peacefully.

What a Way to Avoid Excess Baggage Charges !!!

UPON discovering their luggage was overweight, these cheeky passengers didn’t carry on. Instead, they got creative.

Traveller Stou Sandalski told news.com.au that he witnessed the duo, who were flying from Singapore to Sydney with budget airline Scoot, being informed that one of their bags was over the “free” weight limit.

Faced with an extra fee of $130, they did what many of us have been tempted to do before but dismissed as simply too ridiculous. They unzipped their bag and put on as many items of clothing as they could possibly squeeze into, until it was no longer overweight.

That included multiple hats piled on top of each other, shoes tucked into one of their waistbands and even jeans tied around their neck.

It was such a comical sight that Sandalski posted this image onto Reddit.

But according to Sandalski, there was an unexpected twist at the check-in desk.

A flight attendant said: “I am going to come to the gate and make sure you are still wearing everything”.

Oh dear.

We pity the passengers who had to sit next to them — it would have been a tight squeeze.

news.com.au has contacted Scoot for comment.

Message For the Day…” Look at the Unity inherent in Your Hand … “

Tell your hand, “Oh hand, how sacred you are? You are unity personified. One finger cannot lift a cup; when one finger moves to pick it up, all of you, though different in sizes and shape, rush to help and hold the cup! You don’t care for or observe any difference. Such is the unity inherent in you, amongst your fingers. Oh hand, you are very helpful in preserving the human body, you remove troubles through your hard work and you help others. Why do you sometimes act in a manner that develops enmity? Today there is no unity in any congregation, society or religion. However, you know no hatred. Please never indulge in wrong actions.” Thus instruct and guide your hand so that your actions become sacred. When your thoughts, words and deeds are sanctified, all the other instruments also follow suit and thus you attain liberation.

Kumar Narayanan
Kumar Narayanan…  Photo ….The Hindu

This week, we celebrate our Independence Day and Saintunes, a creative outfit in the city, headed by R. Kumar Narayanan, has composed a patriotic song in Hindi. The number has been sung by him and playback singer Rita, supported by N. Ramanathan and Harish.

“The lyrics of Hey Hindustan are by Uday Meghani, who is with AIR, and I have composed the song as a tribute to our nation. It reiterates that we, as citizens, should value the freedom obtained thanks to the sacrifice of thousands of freedom fighters. It is also a tribute to the defence forces for safeguarding our nation by keeping awake with watchful eyes thereby helping civilians sleep peacefully,” says Kumar.

The song is supported by a video compiled from STOCK images, and uploaded on YouTube. “The visual starts with children, as they are the future generation, and ends with the Tricolour flying high against the blue sky,” explains Kumar.
